Remedy's new game Control launches in Summer 2019
Remedy's new third person action adventure game Control brings mysterious sci-fantasy horror to all platforms this Summer, GameInformer reports.
We've been covering Remedy's new IP Control back when it was known as codename P7, so we've actually seen it grow up and mature over time. The game itself is a fine blend of Remedy's action prowess from games like Max Payne mixed with the weird, otherworldly concepts of Alan Wake and infused with Quantum Break's time-slowing mechanics. The result is a cocktail of bizarre chaos that channels immortalized sources like The Outer Limits, Twilight Zone, Twin Peaks, and even Men in Black.
But like the game's ever-shifting phantasmal haunted house setting, Control is hard to define. Once you get a grasp on it, the game seems to shimmer and ebb into something else. It's an action game with interesting world-bending abilities like floating like a deity or manipulating the fabric of space-time, but it's also a sci-fi romp into a cataclysmic rent in reality that taps a vein of original fantasy.

Artificial Intelligence drives new SWAT game 'Ready or Not'
Ever wondered what it would be like to break into a hostage situation as a SWAT soldier? Well, now there is an entire game based around just that, as VOID Interactive showcases their upcoming title in a new pre-order trailer.
VOID Interactive has introduced 'Ready or Not', a new first person shooter that allows for the player to step into the shoes of a SWAT soldier. Players will be able to slap the boots on and become commander that is thrown into scenarios such as intense hostage situations, break and entries, take-overs and more. Players will also have the ability to select a different set of weapons and equipment before each mission.
The use of these objects will tie into the fact that players can create a different strategy of completion for every mission. An example of this would be choosing to cut the lights of a building and slipping in under the cover of dark with night vision goggles. Players should also note that bullets will be able to penetrate through surfaces depending on the thickness and material of the surface it is colliding with, while also taking into account of the speed of which the bullet is traveling. Alpha access will be available on August 2019 and the full games release date is planned for June of 2020. For more information, or to pre-order the game head on over to the official VOID website here.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate v3.0 could add new game modes
Dataminers are at it again and have delved through the system files of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. To everyone's surprise some possible new game modes have been found.
The above video from Source Gaming gives us a great summary of the rumors that are flying around the Smash Bros community. Source Gaming explains that some file names that have been datamined could suggest that 'home run contest' and 'stage builder' are coming to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. The speculation originates from the file name "ui_howtoplay_db.prc" which is then expanded upon to two more files "howtoplay_homerun.hitml" and "howtoplay_stage_builder.html".
Home run contest and stage builder were originally released back in Super Smash Bros. Brawl and were also apart of Super Smash Bros. Wii U/DS. It could be a possibility that these game modes are going to be added within the teased version 3.0.0 update for Ultimate, but time will only tell. Nothing has been officially confirmed as of yet, so as always with datamining information don't take it as if its guaranteed, more so just a strong possibility. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate has launched and is exclusively available on the Nintendo Switch.

Devil May Cry 5 has second best launch on Steam for Capcom
Devil May Cry 5 has finally officially launched and the title has been quite well-received by fans with reviews falling in the 'very positive' category on Steam.
Devil May Cry 5 has released and it seems that Capcom's title has been very successfull in terms of players and concurrent users. At the time of launch, Devil May Cry peaked at 74,000 concurrent players which puts it behind that of Monster Hunter World which sits at first place for Capcom.
It will be very hard for Capcom to top the concurrent player-base of Monster Hunter World when it released as that title managed to swing 300,000 players at once. On a more positive note though, Devil May Cry 5 managed to beat Resident Evil 2, Dark Souls 2, Dark Souls 3 and Metal Gear Solid V in the category of current players on Japanese games that have released on Steam.

Shrek has joined the fight in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
Shrek has (not officially) joined the fight in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, as a modder has re-skinned Gannondorf with our favourite green ogre.
When you have a bunch of spare time on your hands what is the first thing that comes to mind? For BeardBear he thought it would be a great idea to mod Shrek into Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and boy was he right. The above video showcases the Shrek defending his swamp-stage from a pesky Mr. Game&Watch intruder.
It appears that Shrek has taken the body and moveset of Gannondorf while still keeping his voicelines for each of the moves. Despite the lack of voice mods, the work that has been done to implement Shrek into Smash Ultimate is unparalleled. He looks fantastic, and watching him jump around the stage kicking some butt really makes me want to play him officially in-game. Would there really be anyone against Shrek being apart of Nintendo's Fighter Pass?

Elon Musk's SpaceX 'Crew Dragon' makes successful landing
Elon Musk's SpaceX and NASA have confirmed that the launch of 'Crew Dragon' has been successful with the spacecraft safely landing back on Earth.
'Crew Dragon' launched from Earth back on March 2nd and was an unmanned mission to the International Space Station carrying 400 pounds of "supplies and equipment". The objective of the mission was to prove that SpaceX and more importantly the inhabitants of Earth had developed a safe way to transport humans and cargo up to the International Space Station.
Another goal of the US is to stop their dependence on Russian 'Soyuz' rockets and since the success of SpaceX's 'Crew Dragon', NASA has awarded SpaceX and Boeing Co a total of $US6.8 billion to build a competing rocket and capsule system. Above you can see the Dragon capsule hitting the Atlantic ocean, it was shortly recovered by a boat and a crane was used to hoist it out of the water. From the images we can see that the outer shell of the craft has suffered burns upon its re-entry into the atmosphere.

Battlefield V battle royale Firestorm mode has helicopters
EA is enjoying the mega success that is Apex Legends right now but that isn't stopping the company from unleashing one of the most anticipated parts of Battlefield V in its battle royale mode 'Firestorm'. Firestorm has now been more detailed in a leaked video, which is still up on YouTube fortunately enough... check it out.
Firestorm looks near identical to most other battle royale games except for the excellent work that DICE has put into the destructible environments of Battlefield V, which will get melted and blasted away from the zone moving in. Houses explode from the heat, and I'm sure its going to add multiple layers of intensity when you get caught in the middle of it.
Apart from that, we see that you'll be hunting down and opening up safes in Firestorm looking for loot, as well as some cool vehicles like basic helicopters, speedboats, and full-sized tanks. There won't be unlimited ammo for you to spray and pray, you'll have to conserve ammo and share it with team mates if you want to survive. There will be backpacks to expand your inventory, something you'll have to get used to in a Battlefield game, right?!

Control is shaping up beautifully, Remedy's best game yet?
Game Informer looks to have some exclusive work with Remedy surrounding its upcoming game Control, with a new video showcasing a bunch of supernatural abilities you'll have in the game. Check it out:
In this video we get to see a bunch of the supernatural moves and prototype weapons you'll get your hands-on in Control, with one of the best uses of the environment, and destruction that I've seen in a game so far. One of the abilities 'Launch' will let you control the environment where you can pick things up and throw them at enemies. This includes chairs, tables, fire extinguishers, and even bits of the wall and floor.
The same parts of the environment and powers can be used with the Shield ability, which will let you use the same parts of the environment as protection. In this case, you could pull up a bunch of chairs or desks and use them to shield you from a barrage of bullets from enemies. The next power is Evade which lets you move super quick for a very limited amount of time, but you'll also be able to fly around with levitation powers which looks super slick.

NVIDIA confirms 3D Vision support ends with next driver
NVIDIA has announced that it is officially ending 3D Vision support with its next driver release, meaning 3D Vision had an 11-year run from its debut back in 2008.
3D Vision debuted in 2008 with the release of 120Hz capable LCDs (as well as certain CRT monitors, 3LCD and DLP projectors) with a 3D Vision kit rolling out with 3D glasses that in the end, didn't gain thatm uch traction outside of a small market of people. Still, an 11 year run is some major time on the market for 3D Visiion and its successor with 3D Vision 2, and now it's coming to an end.
NVIDIA explains: "Following the posting of the final driver from Release 418 in April 2019, GeForce Game Ready Drivers will no longer support NVIDIA 3D Vision. The NVIDIA support team will continue to address critical driver issues for 3D Vision in Release 418 through April, 2020. Those looking to utilize 3D Vision can remain on a Release 418 driver. Our software that enables the use of 3D gaming with 3D TVs, 3DTV Play, is now included for free in Release 418. It is no longer available as a standalone download. Our 3D Vision Video Player will continue to be offered as a standalone download, for free, until the end of 2019".

Apex Legends is attracting major esports teams and talent
Apex Legends is home to over 50 million players, and is quickly turning into a major attraction for all things esports including some of the largest teams, players, and streamers in the world.
Since its surprise release a couple of weeks ago, EA and Respawn's new battle royale game has seen some of the largest esports teams getting Apex Legends squads together. We have TSM, 100 Thieves, Gen.G, and NRG either adding entire Apex Legends teams or individual players, just in the last few days alone.
Tanner 'Rogue' Trebb from Liquid explains: "There wasn't any interest from the devs for hosting any events or focusing on anything e-sport related for 'blackout'", referring to Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 and its battle royale mode 'Blackout'. Rogue continued: "It was mainly just third parties doing things on their own and supporting the scene. The devs never said anything, they hadn't shown any interest, so when Apex Legends came out, and Respawn came out and said they would support the e-sport scene, most of the competitive 'blackout' players switched over".

NVIDIA rumored to acquire Mellanox for $7 billion
NVIDIA is reportedly eying off an acquisition of Mellanox for a huge $7 billion, according top sources familiar with the matter reports Reuters.
The purported $7 billion acquisition of Mellanox would be NVIDIA's largest acquisition ever, and would see the GPU giant bolster its business of making various chips for the datacenter. NVIDIA wasn't the only one with its name in the acquisition hat with Intel being outbid by the GPU giant in its quest to acquire Mellanox.
Mellanox is based in both the US and Israel where it makes high-speed network connecting servers, with a market cap at the end of trading on Friday of around $5.9 billion. We should expect this deal to cement in this week, leading directly into NVIDIA's biggest event of the year: the GPU Technology Conference, or GTC.

Google's leaked gaming controller looks super uncomfortable
A controller for Google's new gaming platform has leaked ahead of its big GDC 2019 reveal, showing off a rather non-ergonomic peripheral that will cramp your hands.
Google is set to reveal its new gaming platform at GDC 2019, which may include a games console to compliment its Project Stream game streaming service. The controller portion of this platform has apparently leaked, following a recently published patent, revealing what looks to be a gamepad that'll work across multiple devices and platforms.
There's a few ways this controller could fit into Google's new gaming plans, even if it doesn't fit well in your hands.

Epic wins Fortnite dance-off, lawsuits dropped...for now
Contrary to our predictions, Fortnite's monetized dances may not end up costing Epic Games big money.
Not long ago Alfonso Ribeiro sued Epic Games over Fortnite's Carlton dance, kicking off a fresh wave of lawsuits from other stars like 2Milly and Russell Horning (The Backpack Kid) whose dances appear in the game. But before the plaintiffs can seek damages from Epic's billion-dollar game, they have to successfully copyright their choreographed dances (which is actually possible). But the process is a long one and as a result the suits have been dropped...at least for now.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, a recent Supreme Court decision has interrupted the lawsuits. The courts recently ruled that before plaintiffs can seek damages for copyright infringement, they must first be granted or refused an application from the United States Copyright Office. None of the plaintiffs' applications have been addressed so they voluntarily dropped each case, and as such can be re-filed.

The Division 2 on PS4 is 92GB, has huge 80GB day one patch
When's all said and done, The Division 2 will clock in at up to 92GB on PS4, which is almost double the install size on other platforms.
Today's games are absolutely huge, especially Red Dead Redemption 2 on PS4, and Halo 5: Guardians and The Master Chief Collection on Xbox One which are all roughly 100GB. Live games tend to get massive over time thanks to tons of updates and content drops, but some like The Division 2 will be absolutely huge right out of the gate. In a recent FAQ post, Ubisoft confirms retail PS4 copies of The Division 2 will require a huge day one patch that takes up between 88GB and 92GB. That's on top of the 44.97GB required for the game's base install.
Luckily the massive day one patch actually replaces lots of the original install files instead of compounding them into a glut of HDD-congested data. Ubisoft says The Division 2's total install size will take up anywhere from 88GB to 92GB of storage on PS4 after the update. Even still, The Division 2 will take up almost 20% of a stock PS4's 500GB hard drive.

Cyberpunk 2077 is still deep in development
Given the massive scope of CD Projekt RED's sci-fi magnum opus Cyberpunk 2077, it's easy to see why the game is taking so long, and the ETA status hasn't changed.
Cyberpunk 2077 is the biggest game CD Projekt RED has ever made, and given its stalwart history, that's saying a lot. The game is so incredibly ambitious that it could transcend the hype and become one of the most technically impressive games released this generation. The team has been working for over half a decade crafting its living, breathing world full of real-time dynamic AI, the bustling gritty metropolis of Night City with its flying cars and GTA-style driving sequences, and explosively chaotic FPS action blended with distinct RPG elements. And that's not even including the immersive, multi-faceted storyline whose choice-driven mechanics should put The Witcher 3 to shame in scope.
CD Projekt RED created all new toolsets to power the game, including higher-end visual fidelity, cutscenes, and motion-capture, as well as a new next-gen games engine to redefine what gamers expect from interactive experiences. So knowing all that...it's not exactly a surprise Cyberpunk 2077 still has a long way to go.

Blizzard layoffs affected IT and marketing the most
Roughly 209 people were fired from the frosty mead halls of Blizzard's North American branch as part of Activision-Blizzard's big restructuring plans.
Activision-Blizzard recently laid off 8% of its workforce, or about 800 employees, across all of its main branches in an effort to save cash. The publisher says the culling of these jobs will allocate 20% more revenue to make new games, a decision it made during the same year it pulled in a record $7.5 billion. We've gone into great detail into Activision-Blizzard's thought process behind this decision, but there's one thing we didn't know: just which branches were affected? All of these eliminations hit non-game development jobs, and now we have a better idea of how the company carved itself up.
According to PC Insider, who attained an official WARN document detailing the company's North American layoffs, Blizzard's IT department was hit the hardest with 41 layoffs. Marketing was hit second hardest with 29 redundancies (which makes sense given Blizzard isn't releasing new games in 2019, and it spent billions on marketing in 2018), but Live Experiences was also hit with 29 layoffs.

Ex-BioWare boss Aaryn Flynn leads Improbable's dev team
Improbable, the company behind SpatialOS cloud tech that powers various open-ended online games, today announced development of its own internal projects is underway, and has tapped well-known talent to lead its studios.
The online-tech pioneers announced two studios that will fuel its upcoming projects: an Edmonton-based branch led by ex-BioWare General Manager Aaryn Flynn, and a London studio led by former EA exec John Wasilczyk. Obviously Improbable's games will be online-based affairs, likely live service titles centered around engagement, recurring revenues via monetization, and action-oriented elements. It's possible Aaryn Flynn could bring some of that BioWare magic to his Edmonton team, too.
Here's what the former BioWare GM said about Improbable: "I was interested in making a game using SpatialOS from the very first time I spoke to Improbable. Building tools and content has been a great way for our Edmonton team to master SpatialOS, but a full game was always an opportunity myself and others had in mind as the Edmonton studio took shape. Now, after a lot of great hires and great progress, we're going to focus on creating that game using Unreal Engine 4 and building on SpatialOS' next-generation online games platform.
