The biggest differentiating factor with the latest QD-OLED gaming monitors is the Tandem RGB technology, which introduces two major improvements to OLED panels: brightness and longevity. Samsung Display, the manufacturer of the QD-OLED panel, explains its latest panels use Penta Tandem technology, which uses five stacked blue OLED-emitting layers, up from four in the previous generation.
Samsung Display says Penta Tandem technology spreads the workload across more emitting layers, enabling the panel to produce more brightness while simultaneously reducing the load on every layer. ASUS classifies the XG34WCDMS as one of its fifth-generation QD-OLED panels using Penta Tandem.
As for the XG34WCDMS, ASUS has priced it at $899 USD, and with its 3440 x 1440p resolution, 34-inch size, 1800R curvature, and a 280Hz refresh rate, it appears to be quite a compelling offer if you are in the market for a primo ultrawide gaming monitor.

Design
ASUS has kept things quite humble with the XG34WCDMS, or at least when it's viewed from the front. The XG34WCDMS is a 34-inch gaming monitor that features very slim bezels, a smooth and pleasant 1800R curvature for increased immersion, and a new compact stand design. Let's start off with the stand. Ultrawide monitors are known for taking up quite a lot of desk space, particularly if the stand used is forked or V-shaped. Unfortunately, these V-shaped or forked stands run the risk of users, specifically gamers who prefer low mouse sensitivity, colliding with the stand's feet when swiping across their mouse pad.

For those reasons, I'm extremely happy to report and praise ASUS's decision to go with a single-foot stand that honestly doesn't take up much desk space at all. In fact, ASUS's revised design has dramatically reduced the entire footprint of the 34-inch display, as the XG34WCDMS measures just 18.04cm deep, or 7.1 inches with the stand attached. Notably, that 7.1 inches measures from the front-most part of the stand to the rear-most-part of the stand.
Keeping to the stand, ASUS hasn't sacrificed much on ergonomics, as it provides 110mm of height adjustment, 25 degrees of swivel, and -5 to +20 degrees of tilt. If you want to remove the stand entirely, which is what I would do if I bought this monitor, ASUS has equipped the XG34WCDMS with 100x100 VESA mounting support, enabling it to be attached to wall or desk mounts. Additionally, the XG34WCDMS is a QD-OLED panel, meaning it's quite light, coming in at a weight of 7.4kg (16.3lbs) with its stand, or 5.2kg (11.4lbs) without it.

Let's move to the back side of the XG34WCDMS, which is where we get that loud ASUS personality that is found across all of the company's premium OLED gaming monitors. Here is where we see the unmistakably ROG design language, as ASUS has opted for a fairly large central housing enclosure to protect the important components powering the QD-OLED panel. This enclosure has sharp, angular sections, diagonal detailing, and the classic oversized ROG eye logo that dominates the right-hand side.

The housing is also functional as it features large ventilation openings along the upper and lower portions of the enclosure. As for connectivity, ASUS has equipped the XG34WCDMS with an array of ports. Buyers will have access to 2x HDMI 2.1 ports, 1x DisplayPort 1.4 with DSC, 1x USB-C port with DP Alt Mode and 15W power delivery, and a USB hub that features 3x USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A ports.

There is also a headphone jack. Unfortunately, I would have liked to have seen at least a 65W USB-C port instead of a 15W charging port, especially considering this is a $900 monitor. For that price, I would expect a fully capable USB-C port with enough wattage that I can comfortably fast-charge all of my devices, including laptops, tablets, smartphones, etc. 15W really doesn't cut it in 2026, especially considering even a standard everyday device, such as the iPhone 17 Pro Max, needs at least 40W to utilize its maximum fast charging capabilities (averaging 35W from 1% to about 50%).
Panel Breakdown
Besides the obviously incredible OLED panel, my favorite physical feature is the Neo Proximity Sensor, a dedicated IR sensor located underneath the ASUS logo on the chin of the display. The Neo Proximity Sensor is designed to detect the user of the monitor, measure the distance between them and the display, and, when the monitor detects the user is no longer in front of the display via a lack of movement and a customizable timer, the monitor automatically switches the screen off to give the QD-OLED pixels a break, mitigating the already low chance of burn-in occurring.

This feature can be customized within the OSD settings, where users can set a custom distance, which is set after a brief countdown, and the amount of time that needs to lapse before the screen is turned black.
What makes the panel within the XG34WCDMS incredible is the fifth-generation QD-OLED technology, and here's why it matters quite a bit. The XG34WCDMS is built around the panel, which is a 34-inch, 3440 x 1440p fifth-generation Penta Tandem QD-OLED panel. ASUS has confirmed it uses Samsung Display's fifth-generation QD-OLED technology, which includes the Penta Tandem architecture and RGB stripe subpixel layout.

So, what's Penta Tandem? Previous QD-OLED panels used four blue OLED-emitting layers, while Samsung Display has now stepped that stack up to five and introduced newer organic materials. Samsung explained that its new layer improves luminance, efficiency, and panel lifespan, enabling manufacturers such as ASUS to push the panel to new limits without worrying about causing additional stress on the components.

Now, that formation has changed to an optimized stripe, resulting in substantially cleaner text rendering and a significant reduction in color fringing.

These two features address two of the biggest complaints with previous-generation QD-OLED panels, and it's fantastic to see progress being made in these areas. The XG34WCDMS is also equipped with ASUS's new BlackShield anti-reflection film, which is designed to address another one of the biggest complaints with previous-generation QD-OLED panels - reflections.
According to ASUS, its new BlackShield can improve perceived black levels by up to 40% in brightly lit environments, while also increasing the surface hardness of the panel from 2H to 3H, enabling 2.5x greater scratch resistance. All of these improvements were immediately noticeable to me, and ASUS, along with Samsung Display, should be proud of what they have achieved with the fifth-generation QD-OLED panel.
Performance
So, how does the XG34WCDMS fare in what matters most - games? Firstly, with every monitor I test, I like to include several different genres of games to see where the monitor performs best and to hopefully give a gamer an idea of what their experience will be like if they play their favorite type of game on the display under the spotlight.

For the XG34WCDMS, I tested the following games: League of Legends, Apex Legends, Overwatch 2, Black Myth: Wukong, Cyberpunk 2077, The Witcher 3, God of War Ragnarok, Valorant, DOOM: The Dark Ages, Age of Mythology: Retold, Borderlands 4, Counter-Strike, Battlefield 6, and Forza Horizon 6.
34-inch is a monitor size I personally love quite a bit, as the 21:9 aspect ratio means I can comfortably have three windows open for word processing tasks, or two comfortably sized spreadsheets open. The XG34WCDMS excelled in titles that benefited from its increased width, and a prime example of that was Forza Horizon 6.

What an incredible experience this title was, and truly a standout amongst the previously listed games. Forza Horizon 6, with its immaculate colors popping through the XG34WCDMS's milky QD-OLED pixels, paired with the 280Hz refresh rate and 0.03ms (GtG) response time, made for an experience that I would recommend to any type of gamer, and specifically those who are already into racing games.
Another standout was the slower, more cinematic games such as Black Myth: Wukong, Cyberpunk 2077, The Witcher 3, and God of War Ragnarok. All of these titles demonstrated the intense color performance on the XG34WCDMS, significantly improving general image fidelity and immersion levels. Honestly, once you use an OLED gaming monitor, you won't be going back.

But what about competitive games? Well, competitive gamers typically opt for smaller displays, with most serious competitive gamers choosing 24-inch - 27-inch monitors with a priority for high refresh rate and low response time. The XG34WCDMS, being a 34-inch monitor, would likely never be used by a professional gamer, but for the average Joe, such as myself, who flexes between competitive titles such as League of Legends and Counter-Strike, along with slower RPG titles, I can say the XG34WCDMS has more than enough performance to get you a win.
Motion performance in all the competitive titles was fantastic. Zero smearing, zero tearing, and zero problems. One title to highlight on the XG34WCDMS was Battlefield 6. This game on the XG34WCDMS was phenomenal, as the extra screen size leveled up immersion, which was coupled with the phenomenal image quality. Truly, incredible.
Final Thoughts
So, should you buy the ASUS ROG Strix XG34WCDMS? Well, unfortunately, despite its incredible gaming performance, the XG34WCDMS is hindered by its current price of $899.

Currently, MSI is selling its MAG 341CQP QD-OLED X28, which uses the exact same panel as the XG34WCDMS, but it's $749. So, given that gaming performance will be identical between these displays, why would you go with the XG34WCDMS? Essentially, what you are choosing between these displays is the proprietary technology surrounding the panel, such as the Neo Proximity Sensor, Auto KVM, etc. However, MSI has its own versions of these features as well.
So, for $150 less, you can get identical performance with the MSI X28, and because of that, it makes the price on the XG34WCDMS the central, and basically only real, big criticism. Unfortunate.
