Hello Games today announced No Man's Sky Beyond, the largest and most ambitious update to the galactic space sim to date.

No Man's Sky's biggest update goes above and Beyond

With base-building, light co-op, freighters, and a near-infinite galaxy of procedurally-generated plans to explore, No Man's Sky is already a massive game, but Hello Games is intent on pushing the bar even further with new expansions. The devs are going all out with Beyond, No Man's Sky's colossal new update, which aims to completely overhaul its online component and re-shape the game as we know it.

BioWare boosts Anthem's loot drops

Derek Strickland | Gaming | Mar 15, 2019 7:30 PM CDT

In a bid to appease its rather frustrated playerbase, BioWare has tuned Anthem's loot on a server level to increase the chances of higher-end gear drops.

BioWare boosts Anthem's loot drops

For a brief period, Anthem was actually quite fun. Gamers were being showered with the most powerful weapon grades in the game and activities actually felt rewarding. But this was a bug, an unfortunate glitch that BioWare had to "fix" by cutting off the now-famous Loot Shower. Yes, BioWare fixed its own game by making it less fun. But now the devs want to turn things around. Following a massive boycott protest over measly loot rewards, BioWare has given in to popular demand by boosting drop rates for Grandmaster 2 and 3 difficulties.

BioWare community manager Andrew Johnson announced the news on the Anthem subreddit and confirmed the drop rates are now live as a server-wide tweak. This means BioWare can flip a switch and make specific changes without requiring patch or update downloads, which is super convenient for gamers.

Project xCloud 'Netflix for games' service demoed

Derek Strickland | Gaming | Mar 15, 2019 5:23 PM CDT

Microsoft's new cloud-powered game streaming service is more ready than we thought, and should start beaming AAA games to phones later this year.

Project xCloud 'Netflix for games' service demoed

Built on accessibility, ease-of-use, and universality, streaming is the future of gaming and it's coming fast. With its new Project xCloud service, Microsoft wants to be a big pioneer of this market by bringing its monetizable Xbox-as-a-service platform and games to all devices. It recently brought Xbox LIVE to iOS and Android to make ready for xCloud and serve as the glue for this cross-platform foundation.

The idea is that Project xCloud, which is described as the Netflix for games by Microsoft, will ensure that console-quality gaming experiences can be enjoyed on-the-go on laptops and phones for non-interrupted gameplay (and monetization). Project xCloud uses the power of remote servers to beam the games wirelessly via Wi-Fi or cellular internet, meaning higher-end gaming is possible even on underpowered devices. It'll basically be like a Switch, but without the transforming hardware; play a game at home and you can pick right back off where you left while waiting in line at the DMV or doctor's office. But the proof is in the pudding. The company came prepared and recently showed off a live demonstration of its new game streaming tech during a recent Inside Xbox showcase.

Cyberpunk 2077 could include an appearance from Lady Gaga

Jak Connor | Gaming | Mar 15, 2019 2:00 AM CDT

A new rumor has suggested that Cyberpunk 2077 could feature an appearance from singer, actress and star Lady Gaga. If so, what kind of character would she play?

Cyberpunk 2077 could include an appearance from Lady Gaga

A French site called ActuGaming has reported that Lady Gaga was spotted at the Polish studio and will be included in Cyberpunk 2077 as a character. Here is what ActuGaming has claimed; "We have just learned, from sources close to the studio, that a collaboration between Lady Gaga and CD Projekt Red is on the horizon for Cyberpunk 2077. The artist was seen at the Polish studio and several details follow. Of course, it will be necessary to wait before having the official announcement, but the information comes to us from sources who preferred to remain anonymous and that one cannot quote."

ActuGaming also claims that Gaga has been going to CD Projekt Red for motion capture sessions. Another piece of information that could improve the chances of this news being true is that back in November of 2012, Gaga posted a bunch of random letters and numbers on the Cyberpunk 2077's Twitter page. The page responded with a very strange, "Of course! Of course we will!". Is the random letters and numbers code for 'Can I please be in Cyberpunk 2077?' because if so, then this report from ActuGaming might actually be true.

Capcom say PC for Monster Hunter World is very important

Jak Connor | Gaming | Mar 15, 2019 1:00 AM CDT

Capcom has spoken out about the importance of Monster Hunter World, and how the playerbase for the title reflects how they feel about it on certain platforms.

Capcom say PC for Monster Hunter World is very important

According to Capcom's EMEA and UK marketing director, Antoine Molant, Capcom considers Monster Hunter World on the PC an"incredibly important market". Molant elaborates further and says to PCGamesInsider that the PC platform is the "second biggest one for Monster Hunter World amongst all platforms, therefore incredibly important."

While PC has come in as the second biggest platform for Monster Hunter World, the later release of the title was not detrimental to its sales. According to Molant, even though Capcom had to release the PC version of Monster Hunter World later than that of the console version, this "actually helped as the PC version has had its own window for promotion, PR, marketing. Some countries like Germany or Russia also performed extremely well on the PC front. All of this really increased our success in Europe." When asked about the future of Monster Hunter World, Molant pointed to the coming 'Iceborne' DLC that is planned for 2019, he says it will be a "key project for us" considering the success of World.

Rebellion unveils Sniper Elite 5, Sniper Elite V2 Remastered

Anthony Garreffa | Gaming | Mar 15, 2019 12:23 AM CDT

The developer has also announced Sniper Elite V2 Remastered, Sniper Elite 3 Ultimate Edition, a new "standalone Sniper Elite game for VR devices", as well as the "next major title in the Sniper Elite series".

Sniper Elite V2 Remastered will be released on PC, Xbox One, PS4 and Nintendo Switch while Sniper Elite 3 Ultimate Edition will be taking the sniper-focused game to a Nintendo platform for the first time ever. The VR title should be interesting as well, with Rebellion working with British studio Just Add Water, which have worked on Oddworld and the Gravity Crash series. All of these games will be due out in 2019, with a release date for Sniper Elite 5 to soon be announced.

The next-gen Xbox could feature internal physics engine

Anthony Garreffa | Gaming | Mar 14, 2019 11:28 PM CDT

Microsoft is expected to unveil its next generation Xbox consoles at E3 2019 in just a few months time, with a previous rumor that I posted not too long ago detailing some of the purported specs on the Next Xbox X and Next Xbox Streaming consoles.

The next-gen Xbox could feature internal physics engine

The latest news on the new Xbox is that it will reportedly feature an internal physics engine, according to a new patent from Microsoft. The on-board module would calculate all of the physics for next-gen games which if true, could change things quite a lot. If we look at games like Crackdown 3 and what Microsoft wanted to achieve with it (off-loading all of the physical destruction to the cloud) and did some of it in-console and the rest in the cloud, it would really change games.

The rumor is light on information right now, but we'll keep you posted as next-gen Xbox information surfaces. For now, enjoy the leaked specs:

Samsung unveils 12GB LPDDR4X for next-gen smartphones

Anthony Garreffa | Mobile Devices | Mar 14, 2019 10:28 PM CDT

Samsung has just announced that its new 12GB LPDDR4X chips have entered mass production, ready for the next wave of flagship smartphones and tablets including its own Galaxy Fold.

Samsung unveils 12GB LPDDR4X for next-gen smartphones

The new 12GB DRAM chips are the largest capacity mobile DRAM chips in the industry, providing next-gen smartphones with copious amounts of RAM to work with. It'll be even more than most entry-level and mid-range Windows laptops ship with, as they mostly arrive with 8GB of RAM inside.

Why do you need 12GB of RAM in your smartphone though? Well, we have new handsets with larger-than-life displays, 3/4/5 cameras, 5G connectivity, foldable displays, 120Hz refresh rate displays, and so much more. 12GB of RAM might seem ridiculous, but when it's used in ridiculously feature-packed and high-end smartphones it doesn't seem so crazy.

DICE unveils Battlefield V 'Firestorm' battle royale trailer

Anthony Garreffa | Gaming | Mar 14, 2019 9:32 PM CDT

EA and DICE didn't have the greatest trailer to Battlefield V before it launched, but it seems like they've worked things out for the huge release of Firestorm, the new battle royal injection into the Frostbite-powered FPS.

The new teaser trailer to Firestorm is made as a cinematic within the game's engine, but DICE decided to not show any gameplay which is super disappointing. Still, the trailer is energetic with 'Burning Down The House' playing in the background from the legendary Tom Jones.

EA has confirmed that Firestorm will launch on March 25 with large 64-player matches in both solo and 4-player teams. The incredible Frostbite engine powers it all, with massively destructible environments that will mark a well-needed change in battle royale games for increased mayhem and immersion.

Sony rumors of acquiring GTA/RDR parent company are wrong

Anthony Garreffa | Gaming | Mar 14, 2019 8:25 PM CDT

No, Sony isn't buying Take-Two Interactive. Period. This news floated out as a very sloppy rumor, with Market Watch reporting that Wedbush Securities analyst Joel Kulina saying Sony was in "advanced board level discussions to acquire Take-Two Interactive in a mostly cash deal".

Sony rumors of acquiring GTA/RDR parent company are wrong

Yeah well, that's not happening. GameSpot reached out to Kulina, who said he was frustrated over what he says was a "misquote" that had him "bombarded with calls" about his comment. Kulina said: "There is nothing behind this story that I've seen. No one has found a source. Market chatter refers to simply what we hear on trading desks--happens daily, just more surprised this has gone viral like it has".

No matter if the rumor was right or wrong as it saw Take-Two stock surge 7% at the time, but remember that the company also teased Borderlands 3 within the same time frame which can be tied to the Take-Two stock increasing.

Xbox LIVE comes to iOS, Android games

Derek Strickland | Gaming | Mar 14, 2019 7:24 PM CDT

Microsoft makes another big win for its cross-platform Xbox-as-a-service business by bringing the Xbox LIVE SDK to mobile phones.

Xbox LIVE comes to iOS, Android games

Xbox LIVE is coming to iOS and Android devices via a new flexible software development kit, Microsoft today announced. Using this new SDK, mobile game developers can tap Xbox LIVE's rich community- and engagement-driven feature set and integrate achievements, friend lists, gamerscore, and interactive clubs into their games.

The new SDK is part of Microsoft's new developer-focused Game Stack initiative, which bundles its games-making tools and services into one cohesive package. BioWare: We're listening, Anthem is here to stay

Derek Strickland | Gaming | Mar 14, 2019 6:32 PM CDT

Anthem players and critics are laying on the pressure en masse, and BioWare finally responds to outline what's going on with the messy service game.

BioWare: We're listening, Anthem is here to stay

BioWare's big new live game Anthem didn't explode in the right way; instead of rocketing to the stars, it's engines failed and it crashed to the ground quite hard. Now the fanbase is fed up and have filled the game's subreddit with tons of posts about loot fixes, bugs and glitches, and lots of missing features (the loot issue is so bad that Anthem players are boycotting the game).

This has transformed the game into something that's more fun to talk about and gawk at than to actually play. This has been demoralizing on the developers, who typically stay out of big conversations to avoid the fusillade of frustrated messages. But BioWare isn't ready to give up on Anthem just yet.

Left 4 Dead devs reveal new zombie FPS Back 4 Blood

Today Turtle Rock Studios announced Back 4 Blood, a new shooter with strong ties to the studio's popular 2008 zombie survival shooter. Back 4 Blood isn't a direct sequel to the Left 4 Dead games, and is instead set in a brand new AAA IP established alongside Warner Bros. Interactive. The game sounds very close to L4D, sporting co-op multiplayer and a campaign mode, and will undoubtedly build upon Turtle Rocks' FPS prowess to create something both recognizable and brand new.

Borderlands 3 isn't the only game Gearbox is working on

Derek Strickland | Gaming | Mar 14, 2019 4:05 PM CDT

Game dev is hardly a linear process, but a heavily iterative one, and studios typically work on a few projects at a time. Gearbox is no different, and they may reveal a brand new game alongside Borderlands 3 at PAX East.

Borderlands 3 isn't the only game Gearbox is working on

Borderlands 3 has been in development for years now and Gearbox is finally ready to show it off. But it's got another surprise up its sleeve, too. Yesterday the studio teased a new game reveal for its PAX East showcase, and it looks to be some sort of sci-fi game with cyborgs and/or robots.

Next to nothing is known about the project, but if it's a new game and not just a teaser for the next Borderlands, it probably won't release this year unless it's a smaller-scale game instead of a big AAA affair.. Since the studio was working on this hypothetical game alongside Borderlands 3, it's probably built with Unreal Engine 4 like BL3 and may use many of the same assets, animations, and content. And it should also have Borderlands' explosively goofy sense of humor.

Mortal Kombat 11's main campaign is only 8 hours long

Jak Connor | Gaming | Mar 14, 2019 5:00 AM CDT

Mortal Kombat 11 is just around the corner and an interview with the games story director has revealed how long players can expect the campaign to be.

Mortal Kombat 11's main campaign is only 8 hours long

NetherRealm's story director, Dominic Cianciolo has sat down with Gamereactor to chat about his personal experiences developing Mortal Kombat 11 and also what players can expect campaign wise. Cianciolo is asked if Mortal Kombat is a single-player focusses fighting game, his response was; "You know, I'm not sure why that is but all the data bears out the fact that our single player mode is one of our most popular ways for people to access and experience the game and that's a big reason as to why we spend so much time and energy into making that single player experience as robust as it is."

Cianciolo is then asked if there has ever been a moment within the development studio that a fatality has been 'too much' and a line has been crossed. Cianciolo responds with; "I think there functionally is a limit. I can't give a specific example off the top of my head but I know we've had conversations where someone has gone "is that too much?" and we've just collectively agreed that "yeah, it's indeed too much" and then they'll dial it back and change it so it works."
