NASA's experimental needle-shaped supersonic jet cleared for assembly
NASA has announced that its experiemental supersonic X-59 jet has been approved for assembly. This jet could pave the way forward for commercial supersonic air travel.
The shape of the X-59 is to reduce the loudness of a sonic boom when the craft reaches those speeds. The idea of behind the design is to take that 'boom' and convert it more into a gentle thump, no louder than a car door being closed. According to NASA's website, the X-59 will be flown over US communities to generate data from both sensors and people on the ground. With this data, regulators will be able to create new guidelines for commercial air travel.
The X-59 Quiet SuperSonic Technology or QueSST for short is designed by Lockheed Martin in partnership with NASA. The first test flights for the craft could take place as soon as 2021. For those wondering what 'supersonic' speed is - the speed range of an aircraft travelling faster than Mach 1.3. For reference, Mach 1 is the speed of sound (343 m / s or 767 mph).

Incredibly rare 1980's 'Nintendo Play Station'-hybrid prototype found
This coming February, hardcore gaming history addicts will be able to snag an unusual piece of gaming history, a Nintendo Play Station prototype.
Back in the 1980s, Nintendo and Sony were working on a deal for Sony to create a CD-based add-on to Nintendo's coming Super Nintendo. This console would have been called the Nintendo Play Station and act as a hybrid console that could play both CD games as well as cartridge games. That deal fell through, and both companies went there separate development ways, but out of the rubble of that deal were the prototype units, such as the one above.
After the deal ended, all prototypes of the hybrid console were meant to be destroyed, but former Sony executive Olaf Olafsson who was leading the deal between Nintendo and Sony, kept his. Olafsson then brought the hybrid console to a credit card company called Advanta, Advanta went out of business, and its assets went up for auction - along with the hybrid console. This is where things get really interesting. Terry Diebold, a former maintenance man at Advanta, placed a winning bid on the lot containing the hybrid console, and for some years, has refused to sell it.

Russian company suing Twitch for $3 billion over illegal streams
Twitch is being slammed by a $3 billion lawsuit by the Rambler Group, Russia's third-largest ISP, over illegal streams of Premiere League soccer matches.
Rambler Group claims that Twitch breached their exclusive broadcasting rights of the game, and is now suing the Amazon-owned streaming giant for $3 billion. Twitch reportedly breached Rambler Group's exclusive streaming rights over 36,000 times in the final months of 2019, with the Russian ISP wanting to ban Twitch across the country.
Julianna Tabastaeva, a lawyer for Twitch, explained: "(Twitch) only provides users with access to the platform and is unable to change the content posted by users, or track possible violations". She added that Twitch took "all necessary measures to eliminate the violations, despite not receiving any official notification from Rambler".

Fortnite gets into the Star Wars hype, lightsabers are now in the game
Disney is ramping up with hype for its huge Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker movie, and joining in on that hype is Epic Games with some Star Wars fun in Fortnite.
Fortnite recently enjoyed a live Star Wars event over the weekend, with the developer dropping lightsabers into the game. Plenty of players are now ridding themselves of traditional weapons, and going for some of that classic one-on-one lightsaber battle action in battle royale goodness.
There's not just one lightsaber style either, with Fortnite featuring all different styles including Rey's blue lightsaber, Luke's green lightsaber, and then there's purple and red lightsabers for Mace Windu and Kylo Ren, respectively. There's only one more week of lightsabers in Fortnite, so you will want to jump in now if you want to play around with them in the game before they disappear.

How the Xbox Series X will look in your living room
The new next-gen Xbox Series X is like a little vertical shoebox (or a fridge, or a humidifier) that's anything but flat. So how much room will it take in your living room? A new render gives you an idea.
Now that the Xbox SX's dimensions have been guesstimated, there's tons of renders and size comparisons floating around. Just a bit ago we saw a neat interactive render comparing the Xbox Series X to current-gen consoles, desktops, a Switch, and even a Mac Pro. But what about an actual environment? How big is the Xbox SX compared to your TV or entertainment center?
ResetERA user BrokenSwiftie answers these questions with a quick 3D mock-up.

PS4 controller gets weird $30 paddle attachment
Sony today announced a DualShock 4 controller add-on that gives you extra buttons.
The new add-on is called the DualShock 4 Back Button Attachment, and it tacks on two paddles on the back of your controller. It's basically designed for competitive play and lets users set custom button mappings for the paddles, which should help in intense shooters like Destiny 2 and Call of Duty Modern Warfare.
The peripheral plugs into the DualShock 4's expansion port and essentially transforms your DS4 into a budget Xbox Elite controller. For some reason Sony attached an OLED screen to it so the paddle add-on will leech battery life from your DS4's internal 1,000mAh battery.

Clarifying the Xbox Series X name
The Xbox Series X name is confusing some, and it didn't help when Business Insider put out an article saying "Xbox" is the name of the new next-gen console. It's not. Microsoft's new next-gen console is called the Xbox Series X, not just Xbox. Here's why that distinction matters.
The Xbox Series X is the start of a new console family. It's a naming scheme that confirms an iterative cadence that will see multiple new Xboxes released under the new Series banner. It's not a new ecosystem--the Xbox Series X (Xbox SX) is backward compatible with all existing Xbox One games and peripherals--but the start of a new console hardware cycle set in a familial hierarchy.
Business Insider says Xbox is the make, and Series X is the model, but it goes deeper than that. There's three parts to this new naming scheme: make, family, and model.

Doc from Back To The Future wants a Rick and Morty crossover episode
The actor from the movies that inspired Rick and Morty's creation wants to see the Back To The Future characters meet their cartoon counterparts.
If you didn't know, Rick and Morty is inspired by Back To The Future characters Dr. Emmett Brown (Doc) and Marty McFly. During an interview at German Comic Con Dortmund, Christopher Lloyd, who played Dr. Emmett Brown in all of the Back To The Future movies, was asked if he is aware of Rick and Morty, his response was perfect. "I think it's fabulous. I've watched it, I love the humor in it, I love the characters."
Llyod continues and says, " I've had a fantasy that they make another Back to the Future, Back to the Future 4. And Back to the Future 4 - it's not happening - but if it did, Back to the Future 4 collides with Rick and Morty. Someway, somewhere in another time zone, in another space zone." It would be awesome if Adult Swim could manage to get this crossover event happening, as I think fans would absolutely love it. Maybe Rick and Morty could see Marty and Doc during one of their adventures, and then Rick could criticize how inferior Doc's time travel machine is while Morty feels nervously familiar around Marty, but he doesn't know why.

Ryan Reynolds' cameo of himself is one of the best cameos of all time
The new Michael Bay movie starring Ryan Reynolds arrived on Netflix just this past Friday, and what you probably didn't notice when watching it was Ryan Reynolds shooting a cameo video on screen in the movie.
Firstly, thanks to Deadly Fun for the side-by-side comparison image, as I can say, I would have never spotted while watching the film. The above image is a screenshot of the video Ryan Reynolds posted to Instagram over a year ago. In this video, he talked about appreciating the stillness and the quiet moments in Michael Bay movies, while behind him an epic car chase is Florence is unfolding.
The bottom image shows Ryan Reynolds recording that same social media cameo video of himself from a different location. To top this all off, at the time of the car chase Ryan Reynolds' character in the movie is being chased by the bad guys. What a hilarious cameo, and surely one of the best of all time.

'The Rock' responds to presidential Sonic The Hedgehog movie mention
Paramount Pictures are on a positive hype train leading up to the release of the Sonic The Hedgehog movie, and what better way to get some more eyeballs on the upcoming blue blur than The Rock tweeting about it.
Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson is one of the most followed Twitter accounts out there, he's easily within the top 150 accounts with his 14 million followers. So how does a marketing team leverage those followers to get them to tune into what they want them to see? Easy. Get the main character of the movie to mention the owner of the account directly, or at least that's what Sonic did to The Rock, and he replied.
The upcoming Sonic The Hedgehog movie that is a living representation that the internet can fix things that are originally disgusting, and turn them into something beautiful, posted a short clip about The Rock. Sonic says, "Where am I? What year is it? Is The Rock president???". The Rock then retweeted that video, and said "So crazy I used to love playing Sonic in college. Many moons later this... life can be so damn wildly unpredictable and surreal at times." I mean, how cool would it be to see one of your favorite video game characters as a kid saying your name in an extremely high-budget movie.

Astronomers catch pic of 100,000 exploding stars in Milky Way's heart
Looking into the center of the Milky Way can reveal some quite perplexing clues about how our universe began, and the events that have eventually brought us to what we now call the present.
Astronomers do this on a very regular occasion, and just recently, the European Southern Observatory's Very Large Telescope or VLT for short, located in Chile's Atacama Desert managed to catch something amazing. Astronomers created a high-resolution image of our galaxy's center, and from the observations, they have learned of a new star formation burst that occurred in the early days of the Milky Way.
This burst of stars led to more than 100,000 supernovas, or more simply put, exploding stars. According to Rainer Schodel, a researcher with the Institute of Astrophysics of Andalusia (IAA) in Granada, Spain that led the study "Our unprecedented survey of a large part of the Galactic center has given us detailed insights into the formation process of stars in this region of the Milky Way. Contrary to what had been accepted up to now, we found that the formation of stars has not been continuous." It was found that about 80% of the stars located near the core of the Milky Way were formed anywhere between 8 billion and 13.5 billion years ago.
