Xbox Series X size comparison vs Xbox One, PS4 Pro, Switch

Derek Strickland | Gaming | Dec 15, 2019 4:45 PM CST

3D artist Evilboris made an interactive render comparing the Xbox Series X's new rectangular chassis to other consoles and devices.

Xbox Series X size comparison vs Xbox One, PS4 Pro, Switch

Microsoft's new Xbox Series X has a unique shape. It's not a flat box, but a rectangular prism that can stand up like a Corsair One. Size is a major concern for gamers, but some number-crunching shows the Xbox SX isn't all that big. Now an artist has created a visual representation that scales the system up against current-gen hardware like the Xbox One, Xbox One S, Xbox One X, PS4 Pro, and Nintendo Switch.

The Xbox SX is basically as tall as current-gen systems like the Xbox family and PlayStation 4 Pro when they're standing on their sides. But the new Xbox's shoebox shape is much thicker around and has more depth. It's not nearly as tall as a fully-fledged desktop PC chassis, but it's taller than a Mac Pro. It's also a bit taller than a docked Nintendo Switch when the Xbox SX is laid on its side.

Rick and Morty Season 4 Episode 5 teaser clip - Rick's space flat tire

Jak Connor | TV, Movies & Home Theatre | Dec 15, 2019 7:34 AM CST

Episode 5 for Rick and Morty season 4 releases today, and to increase hype levels just that much more, we have another teaser trailer to clip.

Rick and Morty Season 4 Episode 5 teaser clip - Rick's space flat tire

The above video has been posted onto the official Rick and Morty Twitter account, and from what is shown, we can piece together the last teaser clip with this one to enjoy one long clip. Earlier this week the Rick and Morty Twitter account posted a short clip of Morty getting bitten by a space snake, and it seems that the above teaser clip is the dialogue part that was cut out from it.

The clip begins with Morty telling Rick that he needs to pee, Rick then immediately declines Morty's need to relieve himself but instead suggests for him to swallow a centipede that makes him not have to go. Morty, of course, says no to swallowing a centipede, and just after Rick comments that Morty isn't the victim in the transaction, but the centipede is, the spacecraft gets a flat tire. Morty asks Rick "how the hell do you get a flat tire in space Rick?", Rick replies, "obviously from something sharp in space Morty". Then Rick reveals the secret flat tire experience he has programmed into his spacecraft.

Google Earth has now officially mapped 98% of the world's population

Jak Connor | Gaming | Dec 15, 2019 6:16 AM CST

This past Friday, Google revealed in a blog post just how much Google Earth has mapped the planet and how many miles of Street View images they have available to the public.

Google Earth has now officially mapped 98% of the world's population

According to Google, they are making a huge effort to map the world and so far they have captured more than 10 million miles of Street View imagery. This isn't a small feat, not even in the slightest. To put that number into a more relatable perspective, this amount of miles equates to circling the "globe more than 400 times!".

Google also mentions Google Earth and how that platform provides users with 36 million square miles of extremely high definition satellite images from various providers. According to Google, Google Earth has images that cover "more than 98% of the entire population". Google says that while these photos are stunning, they are helping the company more accurately map the entire world that is "changing each day". If you are interested in finding out how Google collects images for both Google Maps and Google Earth, check out this link here.

Fast & Furious game trailer looks like it was made in GTA V by a fan

Jak Connor | Gaming | Dec 15, 2019 5:30 AM CST

The Game Awards is now over, but now that the announcement dust has settled, we can take a look at some of the reveals you may have missed.

Fast & Furious game trailer looks like it was made in GTA V by a fan

Above we have the first look at the coming Fast & Furious game by Project CARS developer Slightly Mad Studios. The game has been titled Fast & Furious Crossroads, and from the trailer, we can see that the game is going to follow the movies in the sense of having ridiculous action scenes and epic cars. I mean, would it even be Fast & Furious if it wasn't filled with action and ridiculous cars?

Fast & Furious Crossroads is jam-packed with explosions, burnouts, drag races, sweet rides, and epic slow-mo scenes. Judging from the trailer, - and unless the developers add to this, of course - the character models seem low in quality. While this might just be me (it's not just check the comments out to the trailer), I do hope that Slightly Mad Studios increases the overall game quality. Fast & Furious Crossroads is expected to launch in May 2020.

Jak Connor | Gaming | Dec 15, 2019 5:08 AM CST

The Game Awards were only just a few days ago, and out of the plethora of awards and announcements that were seen at the show - here's one you might have missed.

Beat Saber gets an upgrade, 'Green Day' songs now available

It wasn't too long ago that the developer behind massively popular VR game Beat Saber was picked up by Facebook's Oculus Studio. Now that Beat Saber is working as an independent studio under Oculus, they said they were planning on expanding the content that Beat Saber offers players.

During this year's Game Awards, it was announced that as apart of the expansion Green Day and a selection of their songs would be coming to Beat Saber. The following songs will be available in pack form for just $9: American Idiot, Boulevard of Broken Dreams, Father of All..., Fire, Ready, Aim, Holiday, and Minority. Anthony Garreffa | Gaming | Dec 14, 2019 8:23 PM CST

Detroit: Become Human is now available on the PC through the Epic Games Store, and if you didn't want to throw $40 into it -- download the demo and try it out.

Detroit: Become Human demo for the PC available for download

Quantic Dream's new game which was until now, an exclusive to the PlayStation 4 -- and is now on the PC with the demo taking place during the opening of the game. The PC version of the game rocks some glorious PC goodness like 4K resolution and 60FPS support, as well as full mouse/keyboard support.

The game recently had its PC requirements boosted, something I wrote about here -- and if you want to grab Detroit: Become Human you'll need to dive onto the Epic Games Store and purchase it, or download the demo and try it out before you buy it.

New PlayStation 5 renders show off radical different design, again

Anthony Garreffa | Gaming | Dec 14, 2019 7:30 PM CST

A new render of Sony's next-gen PlayStation 5 has surfaced on the ResetEra forums, with forum user 'CrimsonNocturne' making up these bad boys:

New PlayStation 5 renders show off radical different design, again

As you can see, this particular render is a big departure from the slick V-shaped PlayStation 5 and the gorgeous renders that the fine folks at LetsGoDigital have been pumping out. This new render looks much more PS4/PS4 Pro like.

Lots of ventilation on the sides, which will keep the semi-custom AMD chips nice and cool.

Analyst: Amazon will win streaming wars with free Prime game streaming

Derek Strickland | Gaming | Dec 14, 2019 5:21 PM CST

Amazon will win the game streaming wars with when its own streaming service launches in 2020, Wedbush Securities analyst Michael Pachter predicts.

Analyst: Amazon will win streaming wars with free Prime game streaming

In the latest episode of Pachter Factor, analyst Michael Pachter made some bold predictions: Amazon, not Google Stadia or Microsoft's massively value-oriented Project xCloud, will be the king of game streaming. The rationale behind this prediction is centered around Amazon Prime, a strong cloud infrastructure, and a storefront model.

"Amazon is going to win. What they're going to do differently is be a storefront. And they're a storefront meaning just come to Amazon, if you're a Prime member all streaming is free, buy a console and stream anything you want...but you have to pay for the game. So if you buy FIFA for $60 you can stream it as long as you're an Amazon prime member," Pachter said.

PlayerUnknown's new game Prologue is built on next-gen tech

Derek Strickland | Gaming | Dec 14, 2019 4:01 PM CST

PlayerUnknown Brendan Greene recently announced Prologue, a game set in a new IP that'll use next-gen tech to push replayable gameplay.

PlayerUnknown's new game Prologue is built on next-gen tech

Not much is known about PUBG creator's new Prologue game. We only really know what it is because Greene confirmed what it isn't: Prologue won't be a battle royale game, it's not associated with PUBG at all, and it's not a shooter. Since it's a new IP, it won't be one of the new narrative story-driven chapters that expand the PUBG universe, either (this was my first guess as to what Prologue was).

PlayerUnknown himself is leading the charge at his own studio, PlayerUnknown Productions, which is a subsidiary of PUBG Corp, a branch that was literally made just to wrangle the battle royale sensation.

Xbox Series X's mini-ITX chassis isn't gargantuan

Derek Strickland | Gaming | Dec 14, 2019 2:36 PM CST

The next-gen Xbox Series X is bigger than current consoles, but it's not not ridiculously huge. It should still fit on the shelf of your entertainment center when laying down.

Xbox Series X's mini-ITX chassis isn't gargantuan

Microsoft just announced its new monster Xbox Series X console with a very distinct shape. PC gamers will notice right away it looks like a mini-ITX build, somewhat akin to the Corsair One with a more rectangular prism shape. It also looks like the giant obelisk from 2001: A Space Odyssey. Looks are pretty deceiving though and it won't actually be as big as you think.

While Microsoft hasn't given exact dimensions of the Xbox Series X, Venture Beat did some approximations using the Xbox One controller for scale. Their findings show the Xbox Series X is around 6 inches (152mm) deep, 12.75 inches (323mm) wide, and 6 inches (152mm) high when on its side. This is how most people will use it, safely tucked away onto a shelf below their TV.

The Outer Worlds story DLC confirmed for 2020

Derek Strickland | Gaming | Dec 13, 2019 6:14 PM CST

The best RPG of 2019 is about to get even better in 2020. One of the best (and disappointing) things about The Outer Worlds is that it's linear. It has a beginning, middle, and end that respects your time. But when you're finished there's not a lot you can do with the game except for replay it with smaller shifts in perspective. Obsidian wants to remedy that by launching official DLC for their hilarious space epic.

The Outer Worlds story DLC confirmed for 2020

The Outer Worlds is getting story expansions next year, Obsidian just confirmed. "The journey isn't over yet as we are excited to announce that we will be expanding the story through DLC next year! Details will be made available at a later date," Obsidian social media manager Shyla announced.

There's so many places Obsidian could take us that it's not even funny, and hopefully these are nice-sized expansions with plenty of story content, irreverent comedy, and memorable characters.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake has lots of pre-order exclusives

Derek Strickland | Gaming | Dec 13, 2019 4:21 PM CST

Square Enix just revealed the retailer-specific pre-order bonuses for Final Fantasy 7 Remake, and there's quite a few of them.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake has lots of pre-order exclusives

Final Fantasy 7 Remake has a handful of pre-order extras for Walmart, Amazon, Best Buy and Gamestop to give gamers some extra tidbits. Walmart's pre-order bonus is the best, giving you a nice set of double-sided art cards. The Amazon pre-order bonuses might be good--it's a dynamic Sephiroth theme--but there's no preview so we're not sure how it'll look.

All pre-orders also get the Chocobo Chick summon for free regardless where you buy, and remember Final Fantasy 7 Remake is timed exclusive to PS4 for a year. That means it won't be coming to PC or Xbox One until March 2021.

The Wolf Among Us 2 announced, first game is free on Epic Store

The Wolf Among Us 2 was re-announced last night at The Game Awards 2019, confirming work has resumed on the Fables comic sequel-prequel. The sequel was originally in development but the studio's closure in 2018 forestalled development.

Telltale Games and its IP was purchased by LCG Entertainment in 2019, who then revived the Telltale Games brand and formed Adhoc Studios, a team made up of original Telltale devs.

Xbox Series X naming scheme leaves door open for Lockhart

Derek Strickland | Gaming | Dec 13, 2019 2:32 PM CST

As promised, Microsoft's next-gen console come with a new naming scheme the sets the stage for the future of Xbox.

Xbox Series X naming scheme leaves door open for Lockhart

The new Xbox Series X console (formerly Project Scarlett) isn't just the name of a new system, but the name of a new generation. We can expect more Xbox systems to use the "Series" label as Microsoft blurs the lines between generations. More systems like, say, the rumored lower-end Lockhart console that's rumored to release alongside the Xbox SX in Holiday 2020.

Rumor has it Microsoft will release two next-gen consoles in 2020: Anaconda, the codename for the revealed Xbox SX that hits 4K 60FPS, and Lockhart, a disc-less system with lower specs that targets 1440p 60FPS. Microsoft has yet to confirm Lockhart's existence, but the new Series moniker strongly hints that it's possible.

New Ghost of Tsushima footage is all about samurai slaughter

Derek Strickland | Gaming | Dec 13, 2019 11:12 AM CST

Sucker Punch shows off some impressively atmospheric footage for their samurai game Ghost of Tsushima.

New Ghost of Tsushima footage is all about samurai slaughter

The latest footage for Ghost of Tsushima is pretty intense. It highlights the main narrative of the ghost, a resurrected samurai warrior with one goal: bloody, rampant revenge. We see some lethal gameplay slaughter in the trailer, but sadly it's not all gameplay and there's some CG thrown in there. It mostly plays like a film with plenty of heavy lore, a somber tone, and powerful themes straight out of Akira Kurosawa's immortalized Seven Samurai film.

Even as Sony pivots towards next-gen with the PlayStation 5, its still investing heavily into PS4 games and Ghost of Tsushima looks damn good for a current-gen title. We didn't get an exact release date this time, though. Ghost of Tsushima is still listed as Summer 2020 and will be a PS4 game (Sony isn't ready to talk about PS5 upgrades of PS4 games, but expect this one to be included).

Superman DID have a black suit in Zack Snyder's Justice League

Anthony Garreffa | TV, Movies & Home Theatre | Dec 13, 2019 9:11 AM CST

Henry Cavill originally teased the black Superman suit for Justice League before director Zack Snyder left the movie when his daughter took her own life, in that time WB took over control and replaced Snyder with The Avengers director and changed the entire movie -- including the entire plot of the black Superman suit.

Superman DID have a black suit in Zack Snyder's Justice League

Back in July 2017, I wrote about the black Superman suit and said at the time: "Could he return with the black Superman suit that Henry Cavill teased on Instagram earlier this year? Superman could even rock a beard, which would be beyond awesome. A bearded, evil Superman?"

I continued, pondering: "That sounds like Superman being evil to me... so bearded Supes with a black suit? PLEASE, DC... but I have one request: bad Superman is beaten by Justice League, for the true Superman to arrive after. I want the true hero behind Superman to be in Justice League, but I'm totally down with a pissed off, and vengeful Kal-El".

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is now the best-selling fighting game in US

Right before The Game Awards kicked off, NPD decided to drop the sales for Nintendo's massive fighter, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is now the best-selling fighting game in US

According to NPD, Super Smash Bros. UItimate has now officially dethroned 2008's Super Smash Bros. Brawl to become "the best-selling Fighting game in U.S. history." NPD has equated this new achievement of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate on the basis of lifetime dollar sales. Nintendo said back in November that Super Smash Bros. Ultimate has sold a staggering 15.71 million copies and counting.

If you have been out of the loop for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate news, then I should catch you up with a big announcement. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate just received at The Game Awards the 'best-fighting game' award, more on that here. Nintendo also recently announced that they would be re-releasing their official Super Smash Bros. ASAP Rocky & Run the Jewels will have their music in Cyberpunk 2077

Jak Connor | Gaming | Dec 13, 2019 1:11 AM CST

Tonight's Game Awards have been huge. With new announcements left, right, and center, it's tough to keep up with everything. But something I did manage to catch was Cyberpunk 2077's soundtrack and who will be included with it.

ASAP Rocky & Run the Jewels will have their music in Cyberpunk 2077

CD Projekt Red has taken to its official Cyberpunk YouTube Channel to release a video describing what kind of effort has gone into the music behind the title. From the video, we learn that rap duo Run The Jewels will be providing gamers "with the soundtrack to f*cking sh*t up!". We also learn that Refused, Grimes, and more artists will be thrown into the mix.

Big names such as ASAP Rocky will also be included in the game's soundtrack. Alongside other artists such as Gazelle Twin, Ilan Rubin, Richard Devine, Nina Kraviz, Deadly Hunta, Rat Boy, and Tina Guo. Marcin Przybylowicz, the music director for Cyberpunk 2077, says that these artists are just a glimpse at what is to come.

First neutron star surface mapped, but astronomers are more confused

Jak Connor | Science, Space, & Robotics | Dec 13, 2019 12:34 AM CST

Astronomers have, for the first time, mapped the surface of an extremely dense collapsed star, we call neutron stars. The new way of looking at the star raises some questions that are puzzling astronomers.

First neutron star surface mapped, but astronomers are more confused

Aboard the International Space Station, the Neutron star Interior Composition Explorer, or NICER for short examines X-rays that are emitted from space. NICER observes these astronomical objects called pulsars (neutron stars), and researchers used NICER to observe the J0030+0451, or J0030 for short. From these observations, researchers at the University of Amsterdam and the University of Maryland managed to map the pulsar's surface and measure its mass.

The team managed to measure the neutron star in at 1.3 and 1.4 times the mass of the Sun. Funnily enough, the neutron star is only about 16 miles wide, while our Sun, on the other hand, is 864,000 miles wide. Originally, astronomers believed that the neutron star had two hotspots -- one at the top its magnetic pole and one at its bottom. What the astronomers found when mapping J0030 is that it has two or perhaps even three hotspots that are all located in its southern hemisphere. Astronomers didn't expect these results, but they believe that NICER is on the way to explaining what is truly going on with neutron stars.

Shazam 2 drops on April 1, 2022 -- won't be an April Fools Day joke

Anthony Garreffa | TV, Movies & Home Theatre | Dec 13, 2019 12:16 AM CST

DC is on quite the offensive right now, pressing all the right buttons with the recent Wonder Woman 1984 trailer and then news that the story is mostly locked in for Wonder Woman 3 -- and now we have a Shazam 2 release date.

Shazam 2 drops on April 1, 2022 -- won't be an April Fools Day joke

Shazam 2 will arrive in theaters on April 1, 2022 -- once again starring Zachary Levi in the titular role, something he was born for (along with Chuck). DC has needed to announce Shazam 2 quicker than usual, as the child stars in the movie will only get older as time goes on -- if DC and WB waited as long as they have for a sequel to Man of Steel, then the kids would be adults before we got it.

Levi himself said: "If we don't shoot another movie real quick, then they're just gonna be men. There's no point in saying 'Shazam' to transform, they're already transformed! So that's all I can tell you about the sequel, but I'm very excited to get into it, making it, and I hope you all enjoy it when we do".
