Fortnite comes to the Switch, account sharing Xbox One/PC

Jak Connor | Gaming | Jun 13, 2018 4:30 AM CDT

E3 2018 - Epic Games is on a mission to bring their battle royale shooter to every platform possible, now the smash success Fortnite is available on the handheld hybrid console the Nintendo Switch.

Fortnite comes to the Switch, account sharing Xbox One/PC

Currently the most popular game on the planet right now, Fortnite debuts to the Nintendo Switch as Epic Games officially announces its departure via a trailer at E3. According to the Nintendo website, Fortnite on the Switch will be receiving "weekly updates & events"

Some redditors have already downloaded the new app and judging from what they have been saying, Epic Games and Nintendo have allowed for players to carry their progress over from two platforms, meaning that swapping between Xbox One/PC version of the game and the new Nintendo Switch version will not be a problem at all. Unfortunately this cannot be said for the PlayStation 4 version, we will have to wait and see if Sony decides to change their mind. For further information on Fortnite arriving on the Nintendo Switch please visit the official Nintendo website here.

Jak Connor | Gaming | Jun 13, 2018 3:30 AM CDT

E3 2018 - Nintendo has announced that they will continue to support the GameCube controllers for the next installment of the Super Smash Bros. series. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate will have support for the GameCube controllers may the classic controller live on!

GameCube controllers live on in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

Back in October last year, Nintendo quietly added support for the GameCube controllers on the Switch through an update. This alluded to many people thinking that the next Super Smash Bros. game would be supporting the classic controllers, they were right. Now, Nintendo has teased a new Smash Bros. branded controller, currently there is no release date or price point set but I'm sure we will hear more about it rolling closer into December.

Players that want to keep using the GameCube controller for the next Smash will have to acquire a USB adapter, if you played Super Smash Bros. 4 on the Wii U with a GameCube controller then you already own the adapter. The GameCube controller will not work when playing in portable mode with the Switch since there is no USB ports located on the device, GameCube support will only work in tabletop mode. Nintendo will be re-releasing the classic controller as well as the adapter, as more news is released about these products we will be sure to cover them.

Intel announces its first discrete GPU will arrive in 2020

Anthony Garreffa | Graphics Cards | Jun 13, 2018 1:41 AM CDT

The last time we heard about Intel's dedicated GPU is that it would be unveiled at CES 2019, but according to new information from Intel itself, their dedicated GPU won't be arriving until 2020. Still doesn't mean we won't hear about it at CES 2019, but now we know for a fact it'll be here in 2020.

Intel announces its first discrete GPU will arrive in 2020

Intel took to its Twitter to tease that its "first discrete GPU coming in 2020" with a picture of Raja Koduri, who left Radeon Technologies Group last year and joined Intel on their adventures into the GPU world. This is also coming from the company that promised us 10nm years ago, and is having multiple issues with the node process... so, take it with a grain of salt. That is, if we forget the Intel i740 which was one of the first AGP graphics cards back in the 90s against the sea of PCI-based graphics cards from ATI and NVIDIA.

The company has been tapping AMD Radeon GPU designs for its latest processors, so I wonder where the AMD relationship ends with Radeon and Intel when it starts launching its own discrete GPUs. The current codenames for Intel's upcoming GPUs are Arctic Sound and Jupiter Sound, with Raja Koduri focusing on the datacenter and AI at first, but we should expect gaming variants to arrive in the months and years after the initial push from Intel for GPU dominance.

Ridley gameplay/move-set reveal, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

Jak Connor | Gaming | Jun 13, 2018 12:30 AM CDT

E3 2018 Nintendo has revealed a new character that is coming to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, introducing Ridley from the Metroid series. A gameplay video has been released onto the Nintendo YouTube channel and it showcases Ridleys move-set and what players will be expecting from the new character.

Ridley gameplay/move-set reveal, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

Judging from Ridleys weight and speed of attacks shown in the above video, we can assume that the new character will be classified as a 'heavy.' Reinforcing this assumption is the fact that Super Smash Bros. Director Masahiro Sakurai said that Ridley is "4m tall" and the sheer height of the character provided quite some difficulty when implementing him into the new game.

Originally, Sakurai did say that Ridley was in-fact too big to be added to Super Smash Bros. Nintendo has into account the fans cries for the character to be added and have worked out way for him to fit perfectly into the roster. Ability wise, Ridley can conjure fire balls, grab opponents, use dash attacks as maneuvers and spill out massive damage through his sweet spot ability when it is hit correctly.

Valve is opening up localized version of Steam in China soon

Anthony Garreffa | Gaming | Jun 12, 2018 11:37 PM CDT

Steam is one of the largest digital distribution platforms on the PC, but did you know it's not available in China? Valve is set to open up the gaming floodgates into China, teaming with Chinese developer Perfect World on a localized version of Steam.

Valve is opening up localized version of Steam in China soon

Perfect World has worked with Valve before on DOTA 2 and CS:GO in China, with the companies to work even closer together with Steam coming into the country. The companies will join forces on Steam's launch, marketing, and the game lineup in China. Valve said there will be no changes to normal worldwide operations and services of Steam while it gets deployed in China.

Steam is available in China with Simplified Chinese being used by gamers in the country, and accounts for the second-highest share of players on Steam in total. PUBG is absolutely massive in China with 40.5% of Battlegrounds sales coming from China. The Steam Community was recently blocked in China without a single word of warning, with gamers losing access to their inventory and profile pages, but access to the store was left alone.

Oculus founder building 'virtual wall', protects US border

Anthony Garreffa | Science, Space, & Robotics | Jun 12, 2018 10:41 PM CDT

Oculus founder Palmer Luckey is one of largest names in Silicon Valley, but since leaving with his bag of $2 billion after Facebook acquired his VR startup, what has he done? He's created a startup called Anduril Industries and they have been working on a virtual wall.

Oculus founder building 'virtual wall', protects US border

Wired has an awesome piece on Anduril which reports that the startup has constructed a propotype of its virtual wall down on a ranch in Texas, and is also working on a government-funded test of its technology. The virtual wall uses a mix of cameras, sensors, and VR with the startup looking at US defense contracts and making border security in the US magnitudes cheaper.

Lattis is the technology that Anduril is working on, with Luckey talking about the technology earlier in the year, but it has now received the attention of the US government. The startups engineers use open source data to train machine learning systems so that they can tell the difference between people, animals, tumbleweeds, and cars.

NVIDIA's next-gen GTX 1180 rumors: $999 to $1499 in Aug/Sept

Anthony Garreffa | Graphics Cards | Jun 12, 2018 9:21 PM CDT

It was back in February that I wrote that NVIDIA could charge up to $1499 for its next-gen GeForce GTX 1180 graphics card (which at the time I called the GTX 2080 like everyone else did) because of the graphics card shortage during that massive crypto mining global craziness.

NVIDIA's next-gen GTX 1180 rumors: $999 to $1499 in Aug/Sept

Well, I spoke with many of the AIB partners at Computex 2018 about the next-gen GeForce and they all told me that we have an August/September release window corrobrating my world exclusive during Computex that NVIDIA would announce the GTX 1180 on July 30. We could see the Founders Edition released at first, just like the GTX 1070/1080 in 2016, with custom cards in the months following.

But then we come down to the price. Everything that I've heard about the next card is that it will be:

Spider-Man E3 2018 trailer shows gameplay, combat, and more

Anthony Garreffa | Gaming | Jun 12, 2018 8:37 PM CDT

E3 2018 - The last few Spider-Man games haven't really been that good, but with Sony and Insomniac Games behind the latest PS4 exclusive 'Spider-Man' and its new E3 2018 gameplay trailer, we should be excited for September 7.

Spider-Man E3 2018 trailer shows gameplay, combat, and more

The game was shown off by Sony at E3 2016, but this is the most detailed look at Spider-Man yet, with a bunch of gameplay elements including combat and a slew of enemies. We know how the combat will work in Spider-Man, and that "The Raft" is a maximum security prison that a bunch of villains escape from... juusssttt like Batman: Arkham Asylum.

Spider-Man's villains will include Electro, Rhino, Scorpion, and Vulture who all escape from the prison in the trailer. There are other enemies that will be featured, with a mysterious one at the end of the trailer.

Fallout 76 is a service game, can and will change over time

Derek Strickland | Gaming | Jun 12, 2018 7:16 PM CDT

Fallout 76 will shift and change over time, meaning certain things aren't exactly set in stone.

Fallout 76 is a service game, can and will change over time

One of the major benefits for live service games is that they continually evolve with updates and content. Developers can deploy live updates to shape their online worlds and roll out big balancing patches to fix what doesn't work and try new things to see what does. This is ultimately the same type of experimental spirit that Bethesda's new online-only Fallout 76 will use to offer a new and fresh experience for Fallout fans, and Bethesda seems keen on learning.

Fallout 76 has lots of gamers on the fence. It can't be played offline, it has no traditional NPCs (every other character is another player, except for robots and the like), and there's major concerns about the nukes that can be used to destroy another players' base. But the reality to Fallout 76 and other service games is that they can change--what's been confirmed now will likely shift and the final released product could be quite different.

Dying Light 2 makes choices matter

Derek Strickland | Gaming | Jun 12, 2018 5:49 PM CDT

Techland is going way above and beyond with Dying Light 2: not only will the game sport the same smooth parkour and visceral combat as the original, but the sequel's in-game world will shift and change based on your actions.

Dying Light 2 makes choices matter

When I play post-apocalyptic games (whether its Fallout 4 or Dying Light) one of the biggest things I crave is agency. I want my choices to have a direct impact on not only the world itself, but the people who inhabit it; rather than going from point A to point B and solving missions on a checklist, I want to feel as if my actions and decisions matter. I want my mistakes to actually affect gameplay, ditto for my triumphs, and I want to be put in impossible situations and make impossible decisions based on what I think is right. It appears Techland is making Dying Light 2 especially for me, and beloved Fallout dev Chris Avellone is working on it.

"Dying Light 2 features a functioning ecosystem that reacts on multiple levels to the things you do and the choices you make," Avellone said on stage after announcing the sequel. "Dying Light 2 will be the first of the genre where your choices have genuine consequences on the game itself. From how it looks, how it plays, to the events that occur, everything in the game world can change based on your decisions. It allows you to carve out your own world. Each player's gaming experience will be unique."

Starfield is playable, in production

Derek Strickland | Gaming | Jun 12, 2018 5:00 PM CDT

Starfield is currently in production and will be the next big game Bethesda Game Studios releases after Fallout 76.

Starfield is playable, in production

Rumors about Starfield have been floating around since the trademark 5 years ago, but Bethesda finally confirmed the game at E3 2018 with a short teaser. Described as a new "space epic" with strong singleplayer focus, Starfield is currently in production phases and is actually in a playable state. "I would say Elder Scrolls VI is in pre-production, and Starfield is in production--it's a game we've been making for a while. Starfield is playable, Elder Scrolls VI...not in that way yet," Bethesda's Todd Howard said in a recent interview with Geoff Keighley.

Starfield is the first new world BGS has made in 25 years and offers a fresh start. Since it's a next-gen game it should arrive on Sony's new PlayStation 5 or Microsoft's upcoming Xbox hardware and may even push both to their limits.

Xbox division head Phil Spencer recently announced that Ninja Theory, Playground Games, Undead Labs and Compulsion Games are now part of the company's internal Microsoft Game Studios division, signalling a big new investment into games creation. Considering Xbox's exclusives are few and far between, this is good news for gamers aligned with Team Green.

Ninja Theory, the studio behind Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice, confirms that it's working on new games and that the partnership will free them up to work on ambitious things. "We want to be free from the AAA machine and make games focused on the experience, not around monetization. We want to take bigger creative risks and create genre-defining games without the constant threat of annihilation," said Ninja Theory founder Tameem Antoniades.

Justin Roiland reveals Trover saves the Universe gameplay

The trailer begins with Bathtub Guy who narrates us through the gameplay for what is titled Trover Saves the Universe. Bathtub Guy sounds awfully a lot like Rick due to the fact that Justin Roiland is voicing the character. Bathtub Guy eventually dies from the T.V falling into the bathtub and electrocuting him, a purple unknown character with 2 eye balls in each eye walks in, this character sounds exactly like Morty.

The game is scheduled for release on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation VR and includes a third-person view that seems like a platform experience but spliced with Just Roilands comedy. There is unfortunately no planned release date as of yet for Trover Saves the Universe but we hope to hear more about the interesting title soon.

Death Stranding gameplay trailer is beyond mysterious

E3 2018 - Hideo Kojima has done it again, blowing the world away with a beyond mysterious gameplay trailer to Death Stranding which a PlayStation exclusive. Check it out:

Death Stranding gameplay trailer is beyond mysterious

This is the very first time we've seen gameplay footage from Death Stranding, which stars Norman Reedus from The Walking Dead, who plays Sam Bridges, the protagonist of the game. Bridges explores and survives the beautifully imagined environments of an alien planet with rain, rivers, and jungle-like sets.

Bridges carries a huge life back that holds a tiny baby that seems to be something you use as a save point in case you age, or die. We're still not sure on this. Bridges climbs mountains with beautiful motion capture making it seem more realistic than most games, but is mostly trying to survive the elements and environment, which seem to be out to destroy life.
