Xbox Scarlett VR teased, would compete against PSVR 2.0
Microsoft is still baking its next-gen Xbox Scarlett console, something that should be seeing developer kits in developers' hands by now, but now we are being presented with a new patent that suggests a new VR device that looks very interesting.
Wccftech saw that 'WalkingCat' on Twitter found a couple of US patents that show a 6DoF input device, an interesting VR floor mat activity region (mmhmm), motion controllers, a new Xbox Stylus, VR headset, and Xbox Kinect camera. This might not be real and could just be something Microsoft was cooking in the background and will never see the light of day, though.
However, Sony is cooking up its PlayStation 5 console and should see the company unveil the next-gen PSVR 2.0 headset that Microsoft might combat with a new Xbox Scarlett-based VR headset (and activity mat, camera, etc).

AMD announces its new Radeon RX 5500 XT and RX 5500 cards
AMD has just made its new Radeon RX 5500 XT and Radeon RX 5500 graphics cards official, with three SKUs in the RX 5500 family of graphics card including some mobile options.
The new Radeon RX 5500 series will be offering Radeon RX 480 levels of performance from AMD, while competing against NVIDIA's GeForce GTX 1650 graphics card. The Radeon RX 5500 series will usher in the very first mid-range graphics cards using next-gen GDDR6 memory, a big upgrade over the GDDR5 used on mid-range graphics cards right now.
We will see AMD using a 128-bit memory bus on the GDDR6 memory, with the Radeon RX 5500 XT coming with 8GB of GDDR6 memory while the RX 5500 has 4GB of GDDR6 memory. Both cards are on a 128-bit memory bus, with both the RX 5500 XT and RX 5500 offering 224GB/sec of memory bandwidth.

NASA to save HUGE greenhouse gas emissions with this electric airplane
NASA are currently working their way towards developing a brand new electric aircraft that could stand as a fuel-and-cost efficient alternative to normal commercial aircrafts.
At the moment, commercial air travel accounts for an approximate 4 to 9% of the anthropogenic greenhouse gases, that number is also on the rise as more and more planes enter our atmosphere. NASA plans to nip that problem in the bud with a new electric aircraft design that utilizes light-weight and compact inverters. Inverters are the central component in an electric system and provide power to the electric motor.
Traditionally, the requirement of these inverters comes with the diminishing return of how large and bulky they are, and since weight is such a critical factor in aviation NASA have begun research into developing smaller and more power efficient inverters. NASA has signed a $12 million contract with General Electric to develop a new inverter the has the power of generating a megawatt of electricity, but is only the size of a brief case.

ISS Astronauts complete first next-gen battery replacement spacewalk
News has come out from the International Space Station (ISS) regarding the astronauts aboard completing the first of five spacewalks.
Astronauts Christina Koch and Andrew Morgan have just returned to the ISS after changing over a pair of old batteries. The astronauts were required to install a new pair of batteries that arrived at the ISS just this past week. The new batteries are lithium-ion, and are going to be a massive upgrade from the ISS' twelve old nickel-hydrogen batteries. The newly installed batteries are twice as good as the old ones, and are expected to last for the remainder of the ISS' life.
You are probably wondering what the batteries are powering, they are directly linked to the ISS' solar power network and since 2017 astronauts aboard the ship have been upgrading them. At the moment the astronauts aboard need to do another four more spacewalks to complete the transition from the old batteries to the new. The new batteries are so powerful that one is needed for every two of the old ones. Best of luck for the remainder of the spacewalks!

Star Trek: Picard receives new trailer ahead of January 23, 2020 debut
I still remember growing up and my Dad was utterly obsessed with Star Trek: The Next Generation (and Voyager, and all of the rest) and now -- the adventures continue with Star Trek: Picard.
Patrick Stewart returns to his iconic role of Jean-Luc Picard, who comes out of retirement to return to the Captain's chair in Star Trek: Picard. The new series has a premiere date finally, with Star Trek: Picard debuting on CBS All Access on January 23, 2020.
Star Trek: Picard enjoys a new NYCC trailer that I've embedded above, so make it so and click it (geddit?).

GeForce GTX 1660 SUPER details: beats unannounced Radeon RX 5500 XT
NVIDIA is reportedly preparing its new GeForce GTX 1660 SUPER graphics card, with Igor at Igor's Lab with a scoop on the GTX 1660 SUPER's clock speed.
Igor reports that the GeForce GTX 1660 SUPER will have its GPU clocked at 1785MHz and that it will beat the unreleased, and unannounced AMD Radeon RX 5500 XT graphics card. The purported GTX 1660 SUPER will fall just under the purported RX 5600 XT, too.
The current GeForce GTX 1660 has 8GB of GDDR5 memory at 8Gbps, while the higher-end GTX 1660 Ti has 6GB of GDDR6 at 12Gbps. The new GeForce GTX 1660 SUPER will reportedly have 6GB of GDDR6 memory at a higher 14Gbps, and a GPU boost clock that is closer to the GTX 1660 Ti, too.

AMD teases next-gen EPYC: Zen 3 and Zen 4 with Milan and Genoa
AMD has teased the world with some more news on its next-gen EPYC processors, with the new chips to be based on its next-gen Zen 3 and Zen 4 cores. The news was unleashed at the HPC-AI Advisory Council UK conference.
The new road map shows the current EPYC Rome CPUs going into production in the middle of 2019, which they have -- and are now being installed into datacenters and servers worldwide. The next-gen EPYC 'Milan' CPUs taped out in Q2 2019, and will go into production this time next year (Q3 2020).
EPYC Milan will use Zen 3 cores and be on the 7nm+ node with up to 64 cores, and TDPs of between 120-225W depending on the processor. But it's the next-gen Genoa that has us excited, with the new EPYC 'Genoa' chips arriving sometime in 2021 and are in the "definition phase".

Streaming wars: Disney to ban Netflix ads on all properties it owns
The fight between Disney and Netflix is really starting to fire up, with reports surfacing from CNBC that Disney will be stopping ALL ads for any Netflix-related content on all of the properties it owns... except for ESPN.
CNBC reports that a Disney spokesperson said: "The direct-to-consumer business has evolved, with many more entrants looking to advertise in traditional television, and across our portfolio of networks".
Netflix will be enemy #1 for Disney, at least for now -- but eventually, Disney will ban ads from all competitors big and small as it leads into the launch of its own streaming service in Disney+.

Joker is no joke at the box office, kills with $93.5 million opening
Joker released a few days ago and enjoyed a huge opening weekend, so much so that the Joaquin Phoenix vehicle is now the record holder for the largest box office opening in October.
The new Joker movie dethroned Venom from 2018, which opened in October with $80.3 million -- and now Joker is the fourth-largest opening of an R-rated movie, ever. The three other movies ahead of it are Deadpool, Deadpool 2, and It -- which all opened with over $100 million.
In overseas markets Joker was also very successful, with the movie opening to $140.5 million across 73 markets outside of the US. The movie has been met with rave reviews with critics and moviegoers alike, but I have been on holiday (until now) and haven't seen it (but can't wait to).

Yep, NVIDIA's next-gen Ampere GPU will launch in 1H 2020
All the way back in April 2018, I reported that NVIDIA would launch its next-gen Turing GPU architecture (which it then did months later) and that the GPU architecture to succeed Turing would be Ampere.
Then in January 2019, I wrote that NVIDIA would be using Samsung's new 7nm process for its next-gen Ampere GPU that would arrive in 2020. New reports are surfacing that corroborate my articles, with Igor from Igor's Lab (picked up by Wccftech) that a new EEC certification was spotted by DigiTimes and teases Ampere-powered GeForce graphics cards.
There's nothing new here about its release, but we should expect a big upgrade in performance with Ampere on the 7nm node (over the 14nm node used on Turing). NVIDIA will be fighting AMD's second-gen Navi GPU architecture in the second half of 2020, something that will enable proper 4K 60FPS gaming -- and I'm sure, feature ray tracing of some kind.

Bungie's next game will be a live service AAA title
Bungie is already hiring for its next game, and they're laying out some lofty ambitions for the project.
We've known for a while now that Bungie is making a new game, possibly set in a separate IP from Destiny. Bungie's Mark Noseworthy teased the new game at E3 2019, saying team members were "planting seeds" that could grow into something big. Bungie also trademarked something called Matter in 2018, which might be the name of the new IP, and also got a big $100 million investment from NetEase.
Although the non-Destiny game isn't set to release until 2025, Bungie is currently hiring for its unannounced project. The listings give an idea of Bungie's future path. Unsurprisingly, the new game will be a live service game like Destiny set in a brand new universe (likely a new IP).

Rockstar spent almost two years on Bully 2 before giving up
Bully 2 was in early phases of development for almost two years before it floundered, sources close to the matter tell VG Chronicle.
Rumor has it Rockstar Games plans to release Bully 2 on PlayStation 5 and Project Scarlett. Multiple outlets have reported on the sequel, citing inside sources possibly within Rockstar itself. Now VG Chronicle sheds some new light on Bully 2, and it doesn't look too good for fans of the Rockstar underdog.
Sources say after Red Dead Redemption and the Bully: Scholarship Edition shipped, Rockstar's New England branch spend almost two years laying out early frameworks for Bully 2 (Rockstar has nine different teams stretching across the globe from India to California). This work included a write-up of the same story outlined in SWEGTA's Bully 2 video as well as a small slice of gameplay with rudimentary open-world mechanics. The project was ultimately put on the back burner as GTA V's development ramped up, followed by Red Dead Redemption 2 in 2018.

Fallout PC mega-pack collection exclusive to UK and Germany
Every singleplayer Fallout game is getting packed into a collection on PC and sold in stores. But it won't be available in North America and other regions.
The leaked Fallout Legacy Collection Amazon listing is real. Bethesda confirmed the bundle is coming, but it's exclusive to the United Kingdom and Germany. Not only does the legacy collection include Fallout 1, Fallout 2, Fallout 3, New Vegas, and Fallout 4 in the same set, but DLC from every game too.
This is absolutely bizarre as Bethesda would make a killing by bringing this to North America, but it's possible the pack will be sold digitally on Bethesda.net at some point for these regions. It's a strange tactical move from a publisher that's been making odd business decisions as of late, like infusing all its games with unnecessary live services and over-monetizing Fallout 76.

Agony brings hellish pain to Nintendo Switch
Agony, one of the most visually bizarre and frustratingly bad games on the market, is coming to Nintendo Switch.
Madmind Studios' hotly contested hellish horror game Agony is getting a Switch port, but we don't know when it'll happen. The devs at Madmind won't handle the Switch version, instead passing it off to Forever Entertainment (the same team making the new House of the Dead remakes). Madmind is currently developing an Agony spin-off called Succubus.
That this game is coming to the Switch shows just how much Nintendo has grown up. We've seen lots of brutal and graphic games roll out on the Switch, including Doom 2016, Friday the 13th, and even Mortal Kombat 11 to name a few. Agony might be terribly designed, but it's environments are supremely disturbing and bizarre. It's not something I'd ever expect to see on a Nintendo platform.

Next-gen Xbox may get room-scale VR gaming
A recent Microsoft patent could have far-reaching implications on its next-gen VR plans.
A recently published patent for what's described as a "virtual reality floor mat" just popped up, and it could outline Microsoft's VR ambitions. The mat itself is electronic and works in tandem with cameras outfitted on a VR HMD or tracking beacons to enable more fluid room-scale VR. It's a kind of interactive boundary that aims to more seamlessly blend the real and virtual worlds for more immersion in room-scale virtual reality experiences.
The patent describes the device as "a virtual reality experience is provided to one or more users by a computing system through the use of a special-purpose virtual reality mat." As with any patent, there's lots of permutations and possibilities outlined for the device, but the general gist is having an actual defined space that reacts to digital actions, shows key information to users while wearing VR headsets, and directly synergizes with HMDs, peripherals, and controllers.

Instagram source code points towards new 'Group Stories' feature
Remember when Facebook attempted at adding a 'Group Stories' feature before they removed it? Well, it seems that Instagram might be a better place for it as the source code indicates as such.
According to app detective, Jane Manchun Wong, Instagram are currently testing out 'Group Story'. How did Wong come across this new feature? She was digging around in the source code for the app and ran into the 'Group Story' test code.
Originally Facebook had this feature but they later decided to remove it, perhaps they decided to remove it to bring it over to Instagram where 'stories' are much more used. Since this feature is still in testing, Instagram could easily not release it to the public, but if they did I believe that it would a massive hit. I believe this because groups would be able to publicly represent themselves via an individual story.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate DLC 'Geno, Echo Pack' leak admitted FAKE
Firstly, this is a follow-up story on yesterdays purported leak that Geno is the fifth fighter in the Fighters Pass. That leak has now been found out to be completely false information.
WeaverSerawl, the leaker who took to GameFAQ's, and claimed that he had insider knowledge on Nintendo's upcoming fifth Fighters Pass character has admitted that he in-fact made-up the information. WeaverSerawl confessed on GameFAQ's, saying "I was originally dedicated to the Echo Leak and coming up with unique and "weird enough to be true" echos..."
He continues and says, "But I have since gotten a job as a butcher for a local grocery store and haven't had time to dedicate to this... I know no one believed the leak, but I figured I'd confess anyway out of principle." It should also be noted that the title of thread is "Confession: I have no leaks". So now, we can assume that all information coming out of WeaverSerawl is false and that there is barely, if any evidence to support that Geno is the fifth fighter in the Fighters Pass.

Kevin Conroy won't be in new mystery Batman game
Warner Bros. Montreal is making a mysterious new Batman game, but it won't feature Kevin Conroy's iconic voice.
Known for playing the Caped Crusader in the legendary Batman Animated Series, Kevin Conroy is pretty much synonymous with the Dark Knight. He returned to voice Batman in Rocksteady's Arkham trilogy, and was a part of many shows and games since. It was assumed he'd always play Batman in forthcoming games and media...but sadly that's not the case.
Conroy recently confirmed he won't be voicing Batman in WB Montreal's unannounced game, which evidence shows may be set in the iconic Court of Owls graphic novel timeline. Predictably so, Batman is the pivotal hero in the Court of Owls, so it's a bit strange that Conroy isn't coming back.

Nintendo Switch Joy-Con model patents: Super-wide, D-pad, no Joy-Stick
Before the release of the Nintendo Switch, Nintendo seemed to want to cover all bases for Joy-Con development by filing numerous different patent designs. We now have some renders of what those patent designs would be.
These Joy-Con patents date back to the Japanese patent office in August of 2016, and from the image above you can see that the designs are quite strange to look at. Right off the bat, we can see the Nintendo Switch + Wide Joy-Con, which can be assumed to offer better grip in the hands of the user.
Following up on that there is the Joy-Con / D-pad that offers two D-pads instead of joy-sticks. This design would of been much better for platform titles or fighting games, but for gamers who play RPG titles on their Switch, they certainly would of suffered. Then we have the last render that shows off two control sticks, two control pads and two buttons each side.
