Beware PUBG's second blue inner circle, it's a camper deterrent

Jak Connor | Gaming | Dec 9, 2019 3:09 AM CST

PUBG Corp has been recently testing out a new mechanic that is a deterrent against players camping in the middle of the circle.

Beware PUBG's second blue inner circle, it's a camper deterrent

In a new statement on their blog post, PUBG Corp has said they have noticed a large chunk of players landing in the middle of the circle, looting and finding a spot to wait it out until end game. To stop this, PUBG Corp has introduced a new second circle that will force players to keep on the move, encouraging more combat and less safe spaces.

The new map mechanic is a blue circle that appears in the inner area of the first circle. This inner circle will damage players that enter it, here's what PUBG Corp had to say, "Land, loot, and camp in the circle for the rest of the match no more. Circle squatters that felt safe not to engage the enemy will now be forced to keep it moving as a second blue zone is being added to the existing circle. The new 'inner blue zone' will be both a camping deterrent and an indicator of where the next circle will be."

Tesla plans on launching its Cyberquad electric ATV with Cybertruck

Jak Connor | Electric Vehicles & Cars | Dec 9, 2019 2:36 AM CST

If you have been following Tesla news recently, then you would have probably seen the reveal of the new Cybertruck accompanied by an electric ATV.

Tesla plans on launching its Cyberquad electric ATV with Cybertruck

While details on the Cybertruck were released, Tesla kept the details of their electric Cyberquad bike under wraps. Today, Tesla CEO and founder Elon Musk revealed on Twitter a titbit of information -- when the Cyberquad electric ATV was going to release.

Tesla Owners SIlicon Valley Twitter account, asked Musk "Any updates on the ATV?" Musk replied and said, the ATV is designed to work with the Cybertruck and current plans put the launch date alongside the truck. To catch up on some previous Cybertruck news, Tesla has already secured 200,000+ pre-orders of the unique looking vehicle, check that story out here. LEGO also poked some fun at the design with their own 'shatterproof' model, more on that here.

Tesla could make cyber dirt bikes, but won't do any cyber road bikes

Jak Connor | Electric Vehicles & Cars | Dec 9, 2019 2:12 AM CST

If you remember back to the reveal of the Cybertruck, Tesla CEO and founder Elon Musk's surprise revealed Tesla's Cyberquad electric ATV. Does this mean more bike variants are soon to come?

Tesla could make cyber dirt bikes, but won't do any cyber road bikes

Musk Tweeted out last night an appreciation post to anyone who contributed to the design of the hugely popular Cybertruck. In that same Twitter thread, Tesla Owners Silicon Valley replied to Musk asking for any updates on the Cyberquad electric ATV. Musk said that Tesla aims to have it come out at the same time as the Cybertruck, but in the same tweet, he also gave some subtle hints towards some new designs of bikes that Tesla could potentially work on in the future.

Musk says, "Electric dirt bikes would be cool too", and since we already have a fully working electric all-terrain-vehicle (ATV), this doesn't seem that out of the ballpark for Tesla. With the question of Tesla working on an electric dirt bike, the next natural question would be "are Tesla going to make a road bike variant?" Musk jumped out ahead of this question, and said "We won't do road bikes, as too dangerous. I was hit by a truck & almost died on one when I was 17."

Breakthrough in making high-energy gamma ray lasers using antimatter

Jak Connor | Science, Space, & Robotics | Dec 9, 2019 1:35 AM CST

The University of California just made a breakthrough in harnessing the most powerful light in the universe, which could lead to the creation of gamma-ray lasers.

Breakthrough in making high-energy gamma ray lasers using antimatter

Firstly, gamma rays are electromagnetic radiation that is emitted from the radioactive decay of atomic nuclei. Usually, these rays are extremely brief and very, very bright, meaning they harbor the most photon energy. Scientists at the University of California have figured out a way to make stable positronium atoms, which is the stepping stone to creating gamma-ray lasers that could lead to massive technological upgrades.

So how is this done? Scientists take a hydrogen-like atom that combines a mixture of both matter and antimatter (electrons and their antiparticles positrons) and collide them together - the collision results in gamma-ray photons being produced. So, to create gamma-ray lasers, scientists were required to find a way to stabilize the production process of gamma-ray photons by keeping the positronium atoms in the same quantum state. This was done through the use of helium, or, more precisely, liquid helium.

'Free Guy' trailer shows Ryan Reynolds in Grand Theft Auto-style movie

Jak Connor | TV, Movies & Home Theatre | Dec 9, 2019 12:32 AM CST

We have been hearing about Ryan Reynolds' upcoming movie 'Free Guy' for quite some time, but now we have the first trailer and I can see it certainly doesn't disappoint.

'Free Guy' trailer shows Ryan Reynolds in Grand Theft Auto-style movie

From the above trailer, which has been posted on the official 20th Century Fox YouTube Channel, we can see a blissfully ignorant Ryan Reynolds going about his background life until he begins to wake up. Reynolds' character is called "Guy", and he essentially becomes sentient as he realizes that he is, in fact, just a non-playable-character (NPC) inside a video game.

Upon realizing that he can do more, Guy decides to become the hero of his own story by attempting to rewrite himself with his ultimate goal being to save the world from being shut down. "Free Guy" is directed by Shawn Levy (Night at the Museum) and written by Matt Lieberman. Other stars in the movie include Taika Waititi, Jodie Comer, Joe Keery, Lil Rel Howery, and Utkarsh Ambudkar. "Free Guy" is expected to hit theatres on July 3rd, 2020.

Ericsson to pay $1 billion in US corruption charges

Anthony Garreffa | Business, Financial & Legal | Dec 8, 2019 11:24 PM CST

Ericsson is in the hot seat right now, with the telco giant settling with the US Justice Department and SEC with charges of over $1.1 billion over some massive corruption with countries like China and Saudi Arabia.

Ericsson to pay $1 billion in US corruption charges

Ericsson has been accused of violating the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act between the years of 2000 and 2016, where the company reportedly bribed officials to lure customers, falsified records and failed to use "reasonable" accounting controls. The SEC charged Ericsson with bribery, which the company did between 2011-2017.

$520.6 million will be paid to the Department of Justice, while Ericsson will cough up $539.9 million to the SEC. Ericsson boss Borje Ekholm took over running operations in January 2017, and when asked about the corruption charges he said it was "completely unacceptable". But don't worry, even after close to 20 years of corruption and a $1 billion fine -- that'll come from "available funds" says Ericsson.

Elon Musk wins $190 million lawsuit over his 'pedo guy' tweet

Anthony Garreffa | Business, Financial & Legal | Dec 8, 2019 10:52 PM CST

Elon Musk has won the lawsuit against Vernon Unsworth, where the Tesla Motors and SpaceX CEO was being sued for $190 million in damages over his tweets calling Unsworth "pedo guy".

Elon Musk wins $190 million lawsuit over his 'pedo guy' tweet

Musk said in court that his "faith in humanity is restored" when the judge ruled in his favor, with the jury deliberating for just an hour before giving its verdict. Unsworth began his lawsuit against Musk in September 2018 after the Tesla Motors CEO called him a "pedo guy" on Twitter.

Unsworth was involved in the huge rescue of a young soccer team and their coach who was trapped in a cave in Thailand. At the time, Musk sent a small submarine to Thailand to help in the efforts to save the kids and their coach. But Unsworth said the submarine would've been ineffective in the rescue, and was just a publicity stunt by Musk.

Beijing orders officials to replace ALL foreign PCs and software

Anthony Garreffa | Business, Financial & Legal | Dec 8, 2019 10:12 PM CST

A massive new story has just broken over at the Financial Times, which reports that Beijing has ordered all of its government offices and public institutions to remove all foreign PC equipment in software in the next 3 years.

Beijing orders officials to replace ALL foreign PCs and software

China wants to see its government and public institutions using brand made on home soil including Huawei, OPPO, and others -- and is a retaliatory knee-jerk reaction to recent troubles with its relations with the Trump administration and US government. The US government banned businesses in the US from dealing with Huawei, and now we have Beijing ordering its officials to stop using foreign hardware and software. Gee.

A heap of this US-China controversy is coming from multiple areas -- the upcoming 5G deployment worldwide coming from US-based Qualcomm, and China-based Huawei. Earlier this year the Trump administration wanted 5G hardware designed and manufactured outside of China, on top of that we have the trade wars between the Trump administration and China (even affecting PC hardware prices by up to 25%), and then the cherry on top of that was the recent spying accusations from China putting spy chips onto Super Micro motherboards.

The Boys season two teaser starts with blood-soaked Homelander

Anthony Garreffa | TV, Movies & Home Theatre | Dec 8, 2019 9:16 PM CST

I binge watched the entire first season of Amazon's superhero TV show 'The Boys' on my way to Qualcomm's annual Snapdragon Summit, and it quickly became one of my all-time favorite TV shows. The teaser trailer for season two just dropped, and boy does it look good:

The Boys season two teaser starts with blood-soaked Homelander

The Boys season two teaser trailer opens with Homelander gracefully floating down to the ground, and when the camera focuses on the star of the show -- he's covered in blood. This is no surprise considering how blood-soaked and gory The Boys is, and anyone who watched the first season of The Boys should know Homelander has just done something diabolical.

Homelander is a blend of Superman and Captain America, but evil -- pure, pure evil -- while the rest of 'The Seven' which is really a f***ed up version of Justice League, is equally as bad. You'll have to watch the show to get it, and I don't want to do any spoiling here either. On top of Antony Star as Homelander which he plays absolutely perfectly, he's joined by the awesome Karl Urban who plays an even-more-awesome Billy Butcher, who is incredible in the role.

AOC has just unveiled its gigantic new AGON G493UCX gaming monitor, coming in as a huge 49-inch Super Ultra Wide monitor with a massive native resolution of 5120 x 1440.

AOC releases AGON G493UCX: 49-inch monitor: 5120 x 1440 at 120Hz

The new AOC AGON G493UCX packs a VA panel and boasts the native 5120 x 1440 resolution with a super-smooth 120Hz refresh rate, it also includes DisplayPort 400 support. It won't matter which GPU you're using, as AOC is including AMD FreeSync technology and G-Sync compatibility with the new AGON G493UCX monitor.

AOC squeezes in 2 x DisplayPort 1.4 connectors, 2 x HDMI 2.0 connectors, 1 x USB Type-C, 3 x USB ports, 1 x audio output, and 2 x built-in 5W speakers. There's no pricing on the AOC AGON G493UCX at the time of writing -- and that's what I'll be waiting for. It shouldn't have flagship ASUS pricing, but with a huge 49-inch panel at 5120 x 1440 @ 120Hz isn't not going to be cheap, either.

PlayStation 5 Pro teased, with PlayStation 6 aimed at 2026-2027

Anthony Garreffa | Gaming | Dec 8, 2019 7:41 PM CST

The hype train for Sony's next-gen PlayStation 5 console is really taking off, with Sony recently celebrating the 25th birthday of PlayStation -- and during a recent interview Masayasu Ito, SIE's Executive VP of Hardware Engineering and Operation, we were teased with the PlayStation 5 Pro.

PlayStation 5 Pro teased, with PlayStation 6 aimed at 2026-2027

Ito talked about the console cycle, referring to the current-gen consoles and their 7-10 year cycle... but it seems both Microsoft and Sony have a reduced cycle this time around (and so they should) of between 6-7 years. Ito said: "Indeed, in the past, the cycle for a new platform was 7 to 10 years, but in view of the very rapid development and evolution of technology, it's really a six to seven year platform cycle".

He continued: "Then we cannot fully catch up with the rapid development of the technology, therefore our thinking is that as far as a platform is concerned for the PS5, it's a cycle of maybe six to seven years. But doing that, a platform lifecycle, we should be able to change the hardware itself and try to incorporate advancements in technology. That was the thinking behind it, and the test case of that thinking was the PS4 Pro that launched in the midway of the PS4 launch cycle".

Mad Max Fury Road sequel is happening, but not for a while

Derek Strickland | TV, Movies & Home Theatre | Dec 8, 2019 5:15 PM CST

Mad Max: Fury Road is getting a sequel, director George Miller confirms, but it probably won't be out for a long time.

Mad Max Fury Road sequel is happening, but not for a while

After invigorating the Mad Max franchise, George Miller's next film is far removed from the action flick. But Miller is far from done with the bloody, scorched post-apocalyptic world of mayhem and metal. In a recent interview with Deadline, Miller says Max's story is far from finished.

"I'm not done with the Mad Max story and I think you have to be a multi-tasker, and there's certainly another Mad Max coming down the pike after this. We're in preparation on that as well," Miller said.

Intel CEO Bob Swan not interested in holding 90% CPU market share

Shannon Robb | Processors | Dec 8, 2019 3:58 PM CST

Intel has caught a lot of flack for their lack of answers to AMD's Ryzen series, especially with the launch of Ryzen 3000.

Intel CEO Bob Swan not interested in holding 90% CPU market share

Bob Swan, the CEO of Intel, has painted a quite vivid picture in a presentation from the annual Credit Suisse technology conference, which to put it frankly, he is pivoting the direction of Intel away from chasing CPU dominance. Here is the direct quote from the conference courtesy of WCCFTech.

"We think about having 30% share in a $230 [silicon] TAM that we think is going to grow to $300B [silicon] TAM over the next 4 years, and frankly, I'm trying to destroy the thinking about having 90% share inside our company because, I think it limits our thinking, I think we miss technology transitions. we miss opportunities because we're, in some ways preoccupied with protecting 90, instead of seeing a much bigger market with much more innovation going on, both inside our four walls, and outside our four walls, so we come to work in the morning with a 30% share, with every expectation over the next several years, that we will play a larger and larger role in our customers success, and that doesn't just mean CPUs.

Guerrilla dev: PS3's Cell CPU is by far stronger than new Intel CPUs

Derek Strickland | Gaming | Dec 8, 2019 3:32 PM CST

The PS3's cell CPU is still more powerful than any of today's modern Intel desktop chips, Guerrilla Games co-director and technical director Michiel van der Leeuw says.

Guerrilla dev: PS3's Cell CPU is by far stronger than new Intel CPUs

"Even desktop chips nowadays, the fastest Intel stuff you can buy is not by far as powerful as the Cell CPU, but it's very difficult to get power out of the Cell. I think it was ahead of its age, because it was a little bit more like how GPUs work nowadays, but it was maybe not balanced nicely and it was too hard to use. It overshot a little bit in power and undershot in usability, but it was definitely visionary," van der Leeuw said in a recent interview with GameInformer.

Thanks to its parallel computing design that forced devs to constantly re-write code for different cores, the PS3's Cell microarchitecture was a headache for creators.

Ultimate Doom game bundle coming to consoles, PC

Now that Doom Eternal has been delayed to March 2020, Bethesda plans to release a new Doom bundle for gamers to chew on in the meantime.

Ultimate Doom game bundle coming to consoles, PC

Bethesda's new Doom Slayer's Club Collection packs in a bunch of demon-slaughtering mayhem in one package on PS4, Xbox One, and PC. The bundle sports Doom, Doom II, Doom III, and the excellent Doom 2016 reboot in the same package for a cool $30. There's a catch, though: Dooms I-III are digital-only and aren't included on the disc. You'll have to download these to play.

Sadly Doom 64 didn't make the cut. Bethesda plans to release Doom 64 as a standalone game and is also free with every Doom Eternal pre-order.

Epic Mickey remake might happen on PS4, Xbox One, Switch and PC

Derek Strickland | Gaming | Dec 7, 2019 10:31 PM CST

It's been seven years since the last major Epic Mickey game, and new info spotted on a LinkedIn resume hints at a comeback.

Epic Mickey remake might happen on PS4, Xbox One, Switch and PC

Maltese indie developer PlayMagic, the same team remastering the pulpy Archer-esque shooter XIII, could be remaking the classic Epic Mickey games for current-gen systems. The info comes from the LinkedIn resume of PlayMagic CEO Giuseppe Crugliano, which states the studio has been working on a new action game remake set in a Disney IP since July 2019. The game is due out on the full spectrum of today's games hardware--PS4, Xbox One, PC and Nintendo Switch.

So what could it be? The resume also says PlayMagic is working on an "unannounced third person action remake" for the same platforms. Coincidence? Maybe. There's certainly a plethora of older Disney games that could be revamped, especially the third-person games of the old PlayStation era. But Epic Mickey was tremendously popular and lauded for its inventive use of platforming mechanics and stylish visuals. If Disney were to order a remake or a remaster, Epic Mickey would be a nice safe bet.

Luckily we aren't that far away from the sequel, and to get fans excited for the release, Wonder Woman actress Gal Gadot has taken to her personal Twitter account to tease the full trailer release. The quick 30-second teaser trailer shows off some pretty awesome action scenes of Wonder Woman doing what she does best, protecting the innocent and battling the guilty.

The teaser trailer says that the full trailer will be released tomorrow during the Brazil CCXP at exactly 12:30 pm. It is also mentioned that the trailer will be live-streamed on Twitter first before hitting other platforms.
