Turkey crypto exchange founder flees country with $2 billion
Turkish cryptocurrency exhcange Thodex is offline and its CEO and founder has fleed the country with $2 billion of investors' money and people are (rightfully) very, very pissed off.
Thodex founder and CEO Faruk Fatih Ozer has reportedly flown to Albania, with a picture of what is purportedly Ozer leaving the Instanbul Airport posted by local media Demiroren News Agency. Thodex has 400,000 users where 390,000 of those users were active -- according to a lawyer who filed a criminal complaint against Ozer.
Ozer has of course denied allegations of the situation, saying that just $30,000 users have been affected by what's going on and that the claims of $2 billion in losses are simply "unfounded". Thodex users by the droves have been filing complaints against the crypto exchange, obviously worried that their money -- and in many cases -- life savings have been flushed down the toilet.

Starlink internet connection hits 300Mbps, even while covered in ice
It looks like Starlink internet connections are pretty kick ass even in some crazy environments like being covered in ice and 8 inches of snow around it -- whatever, says SpaceX -- it'll throw 300Mbps to your dish from lower Earth orbit.
A user in Colorado, USA has teased her Starlink internet connection with a speed test showing a huge 303Mbps down and 23.7Mbps up -- all while the dish was completely covered in snow. SpaceX said back in November 2021 that their Starlink terminals can operate in temperatures as low as -30C.
Not only that but SpaceX includes pre-built heaters inside of them, which when required will melt snow and ice off of them. The Starlink dish itself is flat, so it will not gather snow or water in its center -- a design tweak by SpaceX which works in extreme environments where snow/ice is an issue.

Someone modded a Commodore 64 to mine Bitcoin because reasons
First off we saw an old school Nintendo GameBoy modded to mine Bitcoin, and now it's time for one of my fondest PC memories -- the Commodore 64 with the same modded treatment to mine Bitcoin. Check it out:
8-Bit Show And Tell has successfully modded a Commodore 64 system to mine Bitcoin, with the 1982 release packing a MOS Technology 6510 processor clocked at a super-speed-and-probably-cannot-run-Crysis 1.023MHz with a whopping 64KB of RAM (that's all you'll ever need -- Bill Gates) and 20KB of ROM.
It was the video of the modded GameBoy that prompted the modification of the Commodore 64 to get into cryptocurrency mining -- with the Commodore 64 modded to mine Bitcoin at just 0.3H/s which is, well, not good at all. The code was written in C programming language, noting that pure machine language could see hash rates increase by something like 10x according to 8-Bit Show And Tell.

Outriders dev opens new studio to work on two new projects
People Can Fly, the development team behind the shoot-and-loot Outriders game, just purchased Phosphor Studios and have now opened a new branch in Chicago.
Outriders is just the beginning for People Can Fly's ambitious new plans. The Polish developer is expanding its teams to help work on two brand new games. People Can Fly recently bought and absorbed indie studio Phosphor Games, launching its first Chicago-based branch, which joins six other established worldwide branches: Warsaw, Rzeszow, Lodz, New York, Newcastle and Montreal.
Right now People Can Fly are working on three major projects: Outriders, which currently still needs lots of stability patches, and two new games: one for Square Enix, and another action-adventure game for Take-Two Interactive. Take-Two recently teased it has 93 games in development across its wholly-owned studios and third-party partners, and People Can Fly's next project will be among them.

PS5's Godfall listed for PlayStation 4 as 6-month exclusivity ends
Godfall will be releasing on PlayStation 4 after its six-month exclusivity contract on PlayStation 5 ends.
European ratings board PEGI has rated Godfall for PlayStation 4, indicating the game will also release on last-gen hardware. The rating went up yesterday on the PEGI website.
Godfall was originally released in November as part of the PS5's next-gen launch lineup, gamers were led to believe it'd stay as a next-gen exclusive on consoles. Neither Gearbox nor Counterplay Games has confirmed the PS4 port just yet, but an announcement should happen soon. This isn't actually a surprise. Godfall was announced as a six-month timed exclusive for PS5 that wouldn't come to other consoles until at least May 12, 2021.

Warzone to hit 120 FPS on PS5, Xbox Series X with new next-gen patch
Raven Software is working on a new next-gen upgrade for standalone Warzone, complete with faster loading and boosted FPS.
Warzone will soon run at 120FPS and take full advantage of new PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S hardware, Raven developers tell CharlieINTEL. Fans have been clamoring for a next-gen optimized Warzone version since the PS5 and Series X consoles released, and now Raven says it has a dedicated team updating Warzone's internal engine to maximize perf on these systems.
There's no word on when the update will be ready, though. It's possible we'll see it before Call of Duty Vanguard rolls out in holiday 2021. We could also see Raven take advantage of new FidelityFX features on both consoles, which includes more crisp visuals and clearer ray-traced reflections.

Louisiana government: Bitcoin may 'replace gold as a monetary reserve'
Every day more and more people are beginning to adopt Bitcoin, and now the price of the coin is climbing its way back to the $60,000 mark right after taking a fast plunge back down to $50,000.
Despite its sharp drop in value, the US state of Louisiana recently released a new resolution that noted some of Bitcoin's greatest achievements, as well as a shout-out to the anonymous Bitcoin creator Satoshi Nakamoto. The document reads, "To commend Bitcoin for its success in becoming the first decentralized trillion-dollar asset and to encourage the state and local governments to consider ways that could help them benefit from the increased use of this new technology."
Additionally, the document goes on to say that the House of Representatives of the Legislature of Louisiana commends Satoshi Nakamoto for his "contribution to economic security". Earlier in 2021, Bitcoin achieved a market cap of $1 trillion, and according to the resolution, Bitcoin "could potentially replace gold as a monetary reserve". The document goes on to explain that Bitcoin could replace gold as a monetary reserve because there is a "limited and finite and there is a maximum capacity of only twenty-one million bitcoins allowed to be produced".

4th or 5th stimulus checks would lift 12 million people out of poverty
A new report from the Economic Security Project has shown that previous stimulus checks have saved millions of Americans from poverty.
According to the report, the $1,400 stimulus check that was a part of the American Rescue Plan saved more than 11 million Americans from entering poverty. The report also states that if a fourth or fifth stimulus check were issued, it would save a further 12 million more Americans from poverty. "Cash has been a lifeline for Americans during this crisis and will continue to be as long as the crisis continues," the report explains
Additionally, the report goes on to state that policymakers need to prioritize policies that target the people who have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic the most - "low-income households and households of color who the data show are still struggling to get back to baseline". The three payments that have been issued over the one year of the pandemic have shown that stimulus payments being given to people who need it most shortened the recession and stimulated the economy.

Water shortage to bring mandatory water cuts to Arizona and Nevada
A new report indicates that the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation may issue a Water Shortage Declaration that would usher in water cuts to primarily two states.
According to a report from Interesting Engineering, in August, the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation may, for the first time in history, issue a Level 1 Water Shortage Declaration that would usher in mandatory cuts in water consumption.
In the last week, the Bureau released a 24-month long projection for the water contained in the Colorado River where it stated that both of the U.S.'s two largest reservoirs are sitting at 35.53% of its full capacity (Lake Powell), and 42.97% of its full capacity (Lake Mead). Additionally, models have indicated that by June 2021, the water level at Lake Mead will fall by 1,075 feet, which will trigger the Level 1 Water Shortage Declaration affecting Arizona, Nevada, and California.

First supermoon of 2021 'pink moon' this Monday, here's how to spot it
The first supermoon of 2021 will happen this coming Monday, and if you want to spot the rare sighting, you will need to know the time.
The first supermoon will happen on Monday night, and it's known as the "Pink Moon". The naming comes from a pink spring flower that is found throughout North America and not what color the moon will actually appear. As for timing, the Pink Moon will be highest in the sky over at 11:32 pm Eastern Time Monday night and will also be "full" on Tuesday night as well.
Why does a supermoon happen? A supermoon occurs when the moon's orbit is closest to Earth, or more specifically, when it's within 90% of its pedigree (383,024km away). NASA says that supermoons occur only a few times a year, even though the moon only takes 27 days to orbit Earth fully. The moonrise will be at 7:24 pm in New York City. If you happen to miss this supermoon and are wondering when the next one will be, the next one will be on May 26.

NASA's small Ingenuity helicopter takes a big flight off Mars surface
It was only a few days ago that NASA achieved the first off-Earth flight with its small helicopter located on Mars.
The first flight from the small helicopter named Ingenuity consisted of the helicopter lifting off from the surface of the red planet, hovering for 30 seconds at just 10 feet, and then descending back down to the baron world. Now, NASA has completed the second flight for Ingenuity, and this time around, the flight consisted of 52 seconds, climbed to 16.5 feet, hovering, tilting, and moving side to side at a distance of 6.5 feet.
Officials with NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Southern California wrote on Twitter, "Go big or go home! The Mars Helicopter successfully completed its 2nd flight, capturing this image with its black-and-white navigation camera." Ingenuity project manager MiMi Aung of NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Southern California said, "Then Ingenuity will come to a stop, hover in place and make turns to point its color camera in different directions before heading back to the center of the airfield to land."

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 Ti primed for May 25 release, says new rumors
We know it's coming -- and it's been seen online, and even benchmarked with cryptocurrency mining -- with NVIDIA's new GeForce RTX 3080 Ti primed and ready to go for a rumored May 25 launch.
That is a month from now, with the news of NVIDIA's rumored launch of the GeForce RTX 3080 Ti coming from HKEPC. NVIDIA looks to be sending out the GA102-225 GPUs required for the GeForce RTX 3080 Ti to AIB partners, as we've seen MSI's new custom GeForce RTX 3080 Ti Ventus 3X OC a few times now this week alone.
NVIDIA's tweaked GA102-225 GPU that will pack 10240 CUDA cores, while NVIDIA will use 12GB of GDDR6X memory -- versus the RTX 3080 and its 10GB GDDR6X and the flagship RTX 3090 with 24GB of GDDR6X memory. We will know more about the GeForce RTX 3080 Ti in the coming weeks, and it seems reviews are only a month away.

MSI's new GeForce RTX 3080 Ti Ventus 3X OC with 12GB listed online
It was barely a week ago that we reported that MSI's new custom GeForce RTX 3080 Ti Ventus 3X OC graphics card was now shipping... and now it has been spotted online by a Polish retailer.
MSI's new GeForce RTX 3080 Ti Ventus 3X OC was found on the X-Kom website, confirming that the company is expecting a shipment of GeForce RTX 3080 Ti Ventus 3X OC graphics cards from MSI. We don't know the exact specs of the card right now as they weren't listed on X-Kom's website, but we do have an expected release date: May 26.
We should expect NVIDIA's tweaked GA102-225 GPU that will pack 10240 CUDA cores, while NVIDIA will use 12GB of GDDR6X memory -- versus the RTX 3080 and its 10GB GDDR6X and the flagship RTX 3090 with 24GB of GDDR6X memory. As for price, we should expect it to cost around $1000 if not more, but we'll know more about that in the coming weeks as we lead up into, and over the launch.

COD: Warzone gets DLSS update, gigantic performance improvements
Call of Duty: Warzone has just received a gigantic injection of free performance through a new update, if you've got a GeForce RTX graphics card then you will enjoy free FPS through DLSS.
NVIDIA's kick ass DLSS (Deep Learning Super Sampling) technology is now in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and its battle royale mode Warzone, with DLSS 2.0 technology driving up to 70% more performance in Warzone. Even with something like the GeForce RTX 2060 you'd be stupid not to turn DLSS on in Warzone, it's just free FPS without much (if at any) image quality reduction.
DLSS enabled and turned onto "Performance Mode" at 4K you're looking at just over 100FPS average in Call of Duty: Warzone with the graphics settings maxed out, but when you turn DLSS on the frame rate skyrockets to 151FPS average -- a 50% improvement in performance at 4K, for free. Damn. On the GeForce RTX 3080 the performance jump is nearly the same, leaping from 90FPS to 135FPS average.

SAPPHIRE TOXIC Radeon RX 6900 XT Extreme Edition has Navi 21 XTXH GPU
I reviewed SAPPHIRE's flagship Radeon RX 6900 XT TOXIC Limited Edition graphics card not too long ago, but now the company is using a higher-binned Navi 21 XTXH GPU with the new Radeon RX 6900 XT TOXIC EXTREME Edition graphics card.
SAPPHIRE's new custom TOXIC Radeon RX 6900 XT Extreme Edition graphics card uses the Navi 21 XTXH GPU, and with the one-click TOXIC BOOST overclocking mode in SAPPHIRE's in-house TriXX software will crank the GPU up to 2730MHz boost.
If we compare this to the TOXIC Radeon RX 6900 XT Extreme Edition version, with my sample seeing out-of-the-box GPU boost clock of 2450MHz, TOXIC Boost OC of up to 2625MHz and manual OC of around 2700MHz -- the new SAPPHIRE TOXIC Radeon RX 6900 XT Extreme Edition graphics card takes things right up to 2730MHz out of the box.

New Judgment trailer shows game breaking 30FPS on PS5, Xbox Series X
SEGA's new trailer for the Judgment re-release on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X shows fluid frame rates.
Yakuza studio's 2019 action crime game Judgment is getting a new next-gen version later this month, complete with a full 60FPS frame rate on both PS5 and Xbox Series S/X consoles. Don't expect major upgrades like ray-traced visuals, though, and there's only graphical setting--no choosing between high FPS or high fidelity.
SEGA is somewhat vague and says Judgment has "refined visuals" on both consoles, but reviewers note dramatically improved lighting system across the entire game. SEGA is also packing in all DLC content into the next-gen release.

Magic Leap 2 is less than a year away
In an interview with Protocol, Magic Leap CEO Peggy Johnson announced that the company is gearing up to release its second-generation mixed reality headset this year. Johnson said Magic Leap 2 would be first available in an early access program, with general availability in early 2022.
Magic Leap's first headset did not fare well in the market. The company tried to target the consumer market with its messaging, but the device's price tag screamed enterprise technology. In the last year, the company made the pivot focus solely on the enterprise space and put its consumer roadmap on hold for a while. Magic Leap 2 is exclusively an enterprise-focused device, with significant attention on medical training.
Johnson said that a core priority for Magic Leap 2 is making it comfortable for front-line workers. The new headset is half the size of the original model, along with a 20% weight savings. Magic Leap 2 will also offer a much larger field of view than the original model. Johnson said that her engineering team managed to create optics that enable double the field of view provided in the Magic Leap One.
