SpaceX crew was officially within 28 miles from 'unidentified object'
SpaceX recently successfully launched four astronauts aboard its Dragon spacecraft to the International Space Station (ISS), and while the mission was successful, it didn't go exactly as planned.
SpaceX's Dragon spacecraft was flying towards the ISS when the crew aboard encountered an unidentified object at around 13:30 EST that ended up coming as close as 28 miles from the craft. In contrast, 28 miles sounds like quite a distance back here on Earth, but in space, it's considered to be dangerously close. Thankfully, SpaceX's Dragon capsule safely passed the object on its way to dock with the ISS.
NASA spokesperson Kelly Humphries told Futurism, "The NASA/SpaceX team was informed of the possible conjunction by US Space Command. The object being tracked is classified as 'unknown.'" When the object was discovered, the crew aboard the spacecraft were ordered to put on their pressurized suits as it was believed that the object was on a collision course with the Dragon.

Here's what it means for you when 10 digit dialing begun on April 24
Phase one of the Federal Communications Commission's mandatory 10 digit dialing will begin on April 24, and here's what it means for you.
The reason for the 10 digit mandatory dialing is because the FCC is implementing a new 3-digit number, "988". When dialed, 988 will reach the National Suicide Prevention and Mental Health Crisis Lifeline, and is for people that are experiencing a mental crisis or are thinking about committing suicide. Due to many areas already having a 3-digit prefix of 988, the FCC needs to implement 10 digit dialing.
Local area calls that already have 988 as a working prefix will "have to be dialed using all 10-digits of the phone number, even if they are in the same area code", according to DFTCommunications. A local call will require the area code + telephone number (or 1+ area code + telephone number depending on dialing plan). Currently, these calls only require seven digits, but the mandatory change of phase one will begin on April 24.

Biden's climate goal may force people to cut 90% of red meat from diet
On Friday, President Biden announced a very ambitious plan to reduce US carbon emissions by 50% by 2030, and to achieve that, Americans may have to undergo some severe changes in terms of lifestyle.
President Biden vowed that his plan is the beginning of the long journey to reach 0% carbon emissions by no later than 2050 and that by 2030 current carbon emission levels would be reduced by 50% - 52%. The cut on carbon emissions will no doubt have to usher in many changes into American society, and as explained by DailyMail, some of those changes will be in what people eat, drive and have at your home.
For example, Americans may have to reduce the amount of red meat and other animal products they are consuming by a staggering 90%, which would severely impact the amount of diet-related greenhouse gas emissions, according to a study by Michigan University's Center for Sustainable Systems. How much red meat is that per day? Only 0.18 ounces, or roughly one average-sized burger per month. Other lifestyle changes would include making the switch to an electric car and refitting your home with an electric heat pump.

Scientific real-time map tracking 200 'ticking time bombs' near Earth
Researchers and scientists are tracking thousands of human-made objects that are orbiting around Earth that could potentially be very dangerous to functioning satellites.
Professor Moriba and his colleagues have created a near real-time map that is called AstriaGraph that tracks around 200 "super-spreaders", which are large rocket bodies that could potentially break into thousands of pieces. A video on the BBC website details that the AstriaGraphic system is tracking over 26,000 individual objects that range from the size of a smartphone to the size of the Space Station.
Of those objects, 3,500 are functional satellites, and the rest are considered space junk or rubbish. These "super-spreaders" that Prof Moriba is concerned about are used rocket parts that are "pretty much ticking time bombs" that will eventually explode or get hit by another object and become tens of thousands of pieces that will endanger functional satellites. If you want to read more on this story, check out this link here.

India's elite rich paying $10,000+ for private jets to flee the nation
A new report has revealed that India's super-rich elite families are fleeing the country on private jets as new travel bans begin to lock down the country.
According to a report from BusinessInsider, India's most wealthiest families are fleeing the country via private jets due to the astronomical number of new COVID-19 cases. The report states that India's ultra-rich are paying tens and thousands of dollars to escape the country as travel bans start to come into fruition.
A private jet company, Enthral Aviation, said that over the last few days, it has received an overwhelming number of requests for private jets. An Enthral Aviation spokesperson said to The Economic Times, "We have requested more aircraft from abroad to meet the demand ... It costs $38,000 to hire a 13-seater jet from Mumbai to Dubai and $31,000 to hire a six-seater aircraft. People are making groups and arranging to share our jets just to get a seat... We've had some queries for Thailand but mostly the demand is for Dubai."

Collision risk: SpaceX to fly 4,000 Starlink satellites at same height
SpaceX is very close to receiving approval from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to fly 4,000 Starlink satellites at the same altitude in Low Earth Orbit (LEO).
The space agency has already received approval from the FCC to launch 1,584 Starlink satellites at an altitude of 550 kilometers. Now, SpaceX is looking to bring in the already positioned Starlink satellites from 1,000 kilometers to 550 kilometers so they all line up together at the same altitude. In total, SpaceX will have 4,408 satellites at an altitude of between 540 to 570 kilometers.
FCC's acting chairwoman, Jessica Rosenworcel, has backed SpaceX's request to fly all of the Starlink satellites at the same altitude and has called for a vote, according to Bloomberg. Rival companies such as Amazon's Project Kuiper, ViaSat, OneWeb, and Telesat all have plans to launch their own satellites into low earth orbit. Visat said back in March that having 1,000's of satellites in low earth orbit would increase the chance of collisions, which would leave concerning debris in space.

Elon Musk says new SpaceX rocket could fly people to the Moon in 2024
Elon Musk has said that SpaceX's new rocket may be able to take people to the Moon by 2024, stating that the task is "doable".
According to Musk, SpaceX is currently underway developing its new rocket that will take the crown for the space company's biggest rocket yet. The new rocket is called Starship, and eventually, it will carry people to Mars, but the first stop is the Moon. During a press briefing on Friday last week, Musk said that Starship could fly its first humans to the Moon in "a couple years".
Here's what Musk said, "I tend to be somewhat optimistic with respect to schedules. I feel I should acknowledge this. So take that with a grain of salt. But I think it's not out of the question that it could fly people in a couple years." As for bookings, SpaceX has already taken a booking from Japanese billionaire Yusaku Maezawa, who will take a trip aboard Starship with eight friends to go around the Moon in 2023, marking the very first civilian passengers to step foot on SpaceX's Starship.

Russia has started making its own AMD B450 motherboards
Russia has just unveiled its first B450 motherboard that is ready to take AMD Ryzen CPUs -- with Russia's CS Group and Philax announcing it is making "at least" 40,000 motherboards and 50,000 monitors.
The reason? Russia wants to lessen its reliance on securing products internationally, so making them in-house is the first step with the introduction of the new B450-based motherboards and 50,000 monitors on the way. The new motherboards might be under development still, but they've been passing all of the tests, certified for Russian government use, and can now be pre-ordered by certain clients in the country.
Philax used the ASRock B450M Pro4 because you can add a TPM module, a requirement for use by the government -- TPM or Trusted Platform Module, is a specialized chip on the motherboard that stores RSA encryption keys used by the system for hardware-based authentication.

Respawn's next big IP might be an online live service adventure game
Respawn Entertainment is currently working on a new IP, but it's a long ways away.
A new job listing confirms Respawn is working on a new IP at its Los Angeles studio. Not much is known about the project, but Respawn says its being made by a very, very small dev team in incubation phases--meaning pre-pre-production. Only five developers are working on the new IP, and Respawn is looking for a 6th, specifically a software coder.
From the sound of the job listing it's possible Respawn's new game will be online-based to deliver content over time. One of the core duties is to "Pioneer new ways to enable adventuring until the heat death of the universe." This could be a randomized type of experience, or a live game that expands with revolving updates to keep players active and busy.

Naughty Dog 'just short' of having two big productions going at once
Despite its 300-developer workforce, Naughty Dog still isn't ready to take on two big production cycles at one time.
Modern Naughty Dog games are high-budget marquee games that have the power to sell systems. Uncharted 3, Uncharted 4, and The Last of Us' I & II were all major staples for PlayStation owners across multiple generations. These games deliver over-the-top visuals and immersive realism, but the trade-off is a slower production cycle where one game dominates all others.
According to Naughty Dog President Evan Wells, the team isn't ready yet to tackle two games at once. The studio is close--Wells says they're "just short" of simultaneous two-game pipelines--but for now it'll be one major game for the foreseeable future.

CD Projekt allocated $53 million for Cyberpunk 2077 refunds/returns
CD Projekt has set aside up to 194 million PLN ($51 million) total for Cyberpunk 2077 refunds, new earnings documents reveal.
CD Projekt Group recently said it has only refunded roughly 8.2 million PLN ($2.27 million) in Cyberpunk 2077 refunds, but this value is only for its Help Me refund campaign that offered money back to consumers with no questions asked. The reality is that CD Projekt expects total refunds to reach around $53 million.
The info was outlined in the company's recent 2020 earnings report, which separates its refunds into short-term and long-term provisions. All companies set aside cash for various provisions especially for product returns. It's important to account for consumer refunds on your balance sheets. That's what CD Projekt has done here. Think of this money as "spent" because it's being reserved for a specific purpose.

CD Projekt RED on buyout: We see no profits in joining a bigger group
Despite its missteps with Cyberpunk 2077, CD Projekt RED is doing better than ever and currently has no plans to sell itself to a larger company.
After an incredible 13.7 million Cyberpunk 2077 copies sold and record 2020 earnings, CD Projekt RED will remain independent for the foreseeable future. When asked about CD Projekt Group possibly being acquired by another games titan (like Tencent, Microsoft, or Sony), company co-president Adam Kicinski said there's no plans to sell right now. If anything CD Projekt is interested on the other side of M&A and would be buying, not selling.
"Nothing changed in this regard. We run our business independently. We have full competencies in this, in running our business. So we don't see, as for now at least, any profits from joining a bigger group. So we're not seeking anything in this regard," Kicinski said in CDP's Q4 2020 earnings call.

Antminer E9 Ethereum ASIC miner: packs power of 32 x GeForce RTX 3080s
Bitmain has just announced its new Antminer E9 Ethereum ASIC miner, which is an absolute unit of a crypto mining rig that is capable of pushing 3GH/s of Ethereum hash rate power. Check out the teaser:
The new Antminer E9 packs 3GH/s (3000MH/s) of ETH mining power, while using just 2556W of power -- with that hash rate power the equivalent of an insane 28 x NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 graphics cards mining ETH. Even if Bitmain's new Antminer E9 Ethereum ASIC miner costs over $20,000 -- with reports suggesting it will be over $20K -- 28 x GeForce RTX 3080 graphics cards will cost you over $80,000 if you're paying $2500 each.
But if you consider those 28 x GeForce RTX 3080 graphics cards would be consuming around 7500W, the new Bitmain Antminer E9 is using just one-third the power and would also take up far less room. This means those huge crypto mining farms could buy as many of Bitmain's new Antminer E9 Ethereum ASIC miners as possible, and have some truly crazy hash rate power at their fingertips.

TSMC to build water plant in Taiwan, will help with chipmaking efforts
Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. is building a new water treatment plant, so that it can be reused for its chipmaking facilities as the country goes through a water shortage.
TSMC has announced it will be building a world-first advanced industrial wastewater treatment plant, which once it's up and running would provide around half of the water that TSMC needs to make chips for some of the worlds biggest companies and products.
Taiwan is going through its worst drought in over 50 years, and while Taiwan is literally surrounded by water -- TSMC is pumping through water like there's no tomorrow. TSMC is currently constructing the plant as we speak in the southern Taiwanese city of Tainan, and will be up and running by the end of 2021.

Hood: Outlaws & Legends will have NVIDIA DLSS support post-launch
Hood: Outlaws & Legends is coming to the PC and next-gen consoles on May 7, with the developers confirming it will have a post-launch patch that will include support for NVIDIA's kick ass DLSS technology.
In a recent interview with Wccftech, developer Sumo Newcastle said that the DLSS plugin that was recently pushed into Unreal Engine was a "little bit too late for us to integrate into the game, but it is something we'll be looking to add post-launch".
However, ray tracing is in the game and it is used to "beautiful effect in our Marshland map which has large volumes of water and a vibrant golden sunset for those picture postcard moments". As for the Microsoft Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S consoles, as well as the Sony PlayStation 5 -- Hood: Outlaws & Legends will have ray tracing and "solid 60FPS" says the developer, while the final resolutions will be confirmed (after optimization) and "communicated before launch".
