Tales of Berseria system requirements are on the low-end

| Dec 7, 2016 4:36 PM CST

Tales of Berseria now has a Steam page, which means system requirements and some features have been revealed. As you'd expect, the system requirements are low and pretty much in line with the previous two Tales games released on PC. On the low-end, all you need is a dual-core CPU, 2GB RAM, and 9800 GTX or HD 4850, whereas on the high-end you'll need a better dual-core CPU, 4GB RAM, and a GTX 560 or HD 7870. See below for the full list.

PlayStation 4 breaks 50 million sales milestone

| Dec 7, 2016 3:16 PM CST

Sony has officially announced that more than 50 million PlayStation 4 consoles have been sold across 122 different regions around the world.

PlayStation 4 breaks 50 million sales milestone

The PlayStation brand continues to smash sales milestones, reaching and surpassing the 50 million unit mark. Sony has included all three versions of the PS4 in these cumulative figures: the 2013 launch consoles that aren't being manufactured any more, the new PS4 "slim" which features an updated 16nm APU and replaced the launch PS4 consoles, and the new 4K-ready PlayStation 4 Pro, which features a new powerful 4.2TFLOPs Radeon Polaris GPU.

Interestingly enough, Sony hasn't officially revealed sales figures for the PS4 Pro, and I'm wondering how many of the Pro's sales can be attributed to the recent Black Friday sales that marked the console down by as much as $100 off.

Final Fantasy XV to get free major content updates

| Dec 7, 2016 12:16 PM CST

Square Enix is far from finished with Final Fantasy XV, and gamers can expect Noctis' journey to continue expanding with fresh content updates from the studio, including paid DLC and free patches that add optimizations and more.

Final Fantasy XV to get free major content updates

Final Fantasy XV game director Hajime Tabata today revealed the game's content update roadmap will be "considerably strengthened" due to FFXV shipping more than 5 million copies in its first day. The updates are planned for the short-term, mid-term and long-term, and the goal is to "make the Final Fantasy XV gaming experience more rich, and for longer playability." Oh, and a NewGame+ mode is coming, too.

The first short-term content update will address Chapter 13. Square Enix plans to adjust a few things like the power of Noctis' ring and offer many more enhancements across the chapter itself.

Final Fantasy XV reportedly coming to PC in 2018

| Dec 7, 2016 11:33 AM CST

Square Enix has already expressed interest in bringing Final Fantasy 15 to PC, and that could happen in 2018.

Final Fantasy XV reportedly coming to PC in 2018

Final Fantasy 15 belongs on PC. The game runs great on PS4, PS4 Pro and Xbox One, but...you just get this true sense that it's dialed back, scaled back...that it isn't reaching its true potential. In fact, my PS4 actually runs pretty hard--harder than it's ever run before--while playing the game. We've already reported Square ENix had to make some serious optimizations to ensure stable frame rates on consoles, with the game being delayed again because it barely ran at 30FPS on PS4 and Xbox One.

Now we have our first reports that Square Enix is actually porting Final Fantasy 15 to PC, but we'll have to wait until 2018 to play it. In fact it looks like the Final Fantsy VII: Remake will also make the jump to PC in 2018, too. The news comes from an unnamed source who told VG Leaks about the publisher's massive plans for Final Fantasy's 30th anniversary, which includes a lot of other games and interesting tidbits. "Final Fantasy VII Remake and Final Fantasy XV are coming to PC, but likely not until early-mid 2018," the site reports.

Nintendo Switch switches to full 1080p while docked

| Dec 7, 2016 9:21 AM CST

Nintendo's new Switch hybrid hardware merges both handheld gaming and console gaming, allowing you to take it on the go like a tablet or dock it for console play. Now we have even more evidence that the Switch will "switch" performance levels depending on how its used, with docked console play delivering the best 1080p performance.

Nintendo Switch switches to full 1080p while docked

We recently reported the Switch underclocked performance and limited resolution to 720p while on-the-go, as the Switch's 6.2-inch multi-touch "tablet" handheld only has a 1280 x 720 screen. This is despite the "tablet" (aka Switch "console") housing all of the system's tech, including NVIDIA's new highly customized Pascal-grade Tegra processor. Now Nintendo sources have told Let's Play Video Games' Laura Kate Dale that the Switch actually performs better while docked.

When connected to the dock's USB Type-C power port (yes, the Switch will use USB Type-C instead of a first-party proprietary cord), the Nintendo Switch is able to hit full 1080p resolution, whereas "switching" over to the Switch's portable handheld drops resolution to 720p.

Nintendo Switch to have Gamecube Virtual Console games

| Dec 7, 2016 6:15 AM CST

Nintendo may finally shed its bizarre fractured approach to Virtual Console with its new Switch handheld console hybrid: word is that the Switch will have a robust and expansive Virtual Console library that could include Gamecube games for the very first time.

Nintendo Switch to have Gamecube Virtual Console games

Nintendo sources have told Eurogamer's Tom Phillips that the Nintendo Switch will have Gamecube Virtual Console emulation, with major GC games showing up on the library. Phillips has a stalwart track record behind Nintendo Switch rumors, and is one of the few people--including our own Anthony Garreffa who exclusively reported the Switch would be powered by an NVIDIA Pascal Tegra chip--that has been privy to insider Switch reports. The Switch getting Gamecube VC is something that I predicted way back before Nintendo unveiled the console in October.

Another known Nintendo insider, Emily Rogers, says that the "Switch's Virtual Console is a step in the right direction," and that "Nintendo is listening to criticisms about Wii U emulation."

Sony's new add-on merges trading cards with mobile games

| Dec 7, 2016 4:22 AM CST

In an effort to counter Nintendo and one-up its previous ill-fated efforts, Sony Interactive Entertainment is pushing full steam ahead into mobile gaming. This time around, however, the Japanese games-maker has a secret up its sleeve: a new smartphone add-on that merges trading cards and mobile games.

Sony's new add-on merges trading cards with mobile games

SIE's mobile gaming push is facilitated under Forward Works, a new proprietary banner that will oversee mobile adaptations of major popular Japanese gaming franchises like Arc the Lad, Wild Arms, Parappa the Rapper, Disgaea, and more--all of which are coming to smartphones as mobile games. Not content with the basics of smartphone gaming, Sony has decided to transcend the platform's barriers with Project Field, a unique hardware peripheral that will unify two very popular and profitable realms of gaming.

Project Field is a peripheral that allows physical collectible cards from trading card games interact with a digital mobile game. Project Field basically consists of a special pad you place special trading cards onto, and they interact with a game running on a mobile device.

Sony making Wild Arms, Arc the Lad smartphone games

| Dec 7, 2016 1:51 AM CST

Sony Interactive Entertainment of Japan has announced five new games as part of its push into mobile gaming, including greats like Arc the Lad, Wild Arms, and Parappa the Rapper.

Sony making Wild Arms, Arc the Lad smartphone games

SIE's new proprietary mobile gaming company is called ForwardWorks (think if Nintendo owned DeNA) and is focused on adapting popular PlayStation franchises into mobile games. Now for the first time we know exactly which games SIE's ForwardWorks studio plans to release, with SIE showing off demos for the following:

ForwardWorks has also teamed up with Square Enix for more mobile games, but no actual games or concrete info on the projects was announced. Check below for the full list of confirmed smartphone games. Also note that these games have been confirmed for Japan, and we're not sure which ones will cross over to the West. The first five are expected by Spring 2017.

With The Last Guardian preorder numbers surprising Sony, one must have asked the question: how good will the game be or is it just another over hyped piece of garbage? Well, numerous websites have release their reviews today since they are no longer under NDA. Metacritic should give us a nice overview on the scoring and their opinions of the title.

Titanfall 2 infographic reveal interesting information

I'm sure that everybody here have heard that Titanfall 2 is doing terribly. "Oh, the sales are nothing compared to the original!" or "Titanfall 2 is nothing compared to Battlefield 1". "The player count in this game is hideous! I can't even find a match!" Well, let's take a deeper look at an infographic that EA have made based on their data collected from the game between October 28th, 2016 and November 27th, 2016.

Battlefield 1's new update includes SLI fixes, and more

| Dec 6, 2016 12:24 AM CST

Battlefield 1 has been getting patched since its released, but DICE are now teasing the upcoming patch for BF1 that will fix various issues SLI owners are having with the game.

DIJCE producer Ali Hassoon took to Twitter to say that there are "some fixes coming with next patch, but there are other that need new drivers from the manufacturers", when asked about fixes for NVIDIA GeForce SLI owners. The new update will also have various other fixes, with someone asking about a fix for "quitting after games finish", and another glitch where "you can't shoot after getting revived". Hassoon tweeted: "we are aware, fixes incoming".

Another BF1 gamer asked about hindrances in the game, with Hassoon replying: "we are looking into lowering pre-round break limit as an option for admins". Another user asked "any change of admins having access to a full, scrollable chat log", to which Hassoon replied: "good idea, will look into it".

Nintendo Switch accessories begin to get detailed

| Dec 5, 2016 11:09 PM CST

Nintendo unveiled its next-gen Switch console and handheld hybrid back in October, but there are still mysteries surrounding the NVIDIA-powered gaming console. We didn't know which accessories Nintendo would be selling, but according to a listing with Australian game retailer EB Games, we do now.

EB Games has listed three unofficial Nintendo Switch accessories by a company called @play, which include a "Starter Pack", "Starter Pack Plus", and a charging cable. We've already reported that the Nintendo Switch will use a USB Type-C port for charging, and this listing confirms that finding.

As we reported that the Nintendo Switch only has 3 hours of battery life, quick-charging with USB Type-C would be a huge benefit for gamers. The only problem is, however, USB Type-C can potentially fry devices if the cords are improperly made.

PS4 Pro dev kit auctioned with 800GB of encrypted data

| Dec 5, 2016 9:50 PM CST

Someone has secured themselves a rare console gem, grabbing an early PS4 Neo prototype dev kit console - which is now released commercially as Sony's PlayStation 4 Pro, from United Front, which recently shut its doors in October.

PS4 Pro dev kit auctioned with 800GB of encrypted data

United Front held an auction over the weekend, selling server hardware, office equipment, lamps, TV sets - and yeah, a PS4 Pro development kit. Reddit user kaneda2004 secured the PS4 Neo dev kit, but he found that it had 800GB of data on the HDD, but it was encrypted behind an expired DevKit license.

The 800GB of data can't be accessed, as the files are encrypted after the license expires (as they need to be renewed every 90 days, for reasons just like this). The PS4 Neo dev kit owner has reached out to members of Assembler Games, who will grab the console and try to extract the files from the HDD to see what was hidden.

The Last of US 2 being co-written by Westworld writer

Ellie's "harrowing, hate-filled journey" will be crafted by Neil Druckmann and a writer from HBO's smash hit Westworld show.

The Last of US 2 being co-written by Westworld writer

Naughty Dog officially announced The Last of Us Part 2 at Sony's PlayStation Experience 2016 event. According to Neil Druckmann, the game will star Ellie as the main protagonist and will be a polar opposite of the first chapter, with Ellie's story being much more twisted, bloody, and malicious this time around. "This is a story about hate, and [it'll be] an intense, harrowing, and emotional adventure," Druckmann confirmed.

The lead Naughty Dog writer also announced that he won't be the only writer on the project: Halley Gross, who helped mold and fashion HBO's new mega-hit Westworld show, will lend her talents to the game's storyline.

PS4 Pro runs 'hot enough to cook an egg'

| Dec 5, 2016 2:39 PM CST

Despite Sony's assurances that its new PlayStation 4 Pro runs cool, the fact that the new 4K-ready console uses AMD's new Polaris graphics architecture that's both energy and thermal efficient, and the fact that the PS4 Pro's SoC is built on a 16nm FinFET node process for even more efficiency, the console seems to be getting pretty hot. How hot? Hot enough to fry an egg?

PS4 Pro runs 'hot enough to cook an egg'

I've been covering the PS4 Pro for a while now, but have decided against picking one up since my 2013 launch PS4 is running fine--even if Sony wants to pretend the console doesn't exist any more. In all of our reports, one of the most consistent bits of info is that the PS4 Pro is much more powerful and efficient than the PS4. We know it rocks a highly customized 4.2 TFLOP AMD Polaris-based GPU that sits below an RX 470 in power, and Sony even affirms the PS4 Pro runs super cool and only gets to 35C while gaming, but many gamers are saying that the system actually runs pretty hot--especially if you're playing in 4K.

"I wanna mention that this thing runs hot. Which is something crazy...we had it running several hours today and it was really hot," Cinemassacre's Ryan Schott said in a recent PS4 Pro evaluation video on AVGN's channel.

| Dec 5, 2016 1:20 PM CST

With Resident Evil 7: Biohazard being the first game in the series to support native 4K resolution on PC and upscaled 4K on PS4 Pro, it looks like Capcom is taking the game pretty seriously, which could lead to a well-optimized PC port. Now a list of RE 7 purported PC graphics and performance settings have been unearthed, showing an uncapped FPS option as well as a bunch of different settings.

The Last Guardian pre-order numbers have surprised Sony

| Dec 5, 2016 12:18 PM CST

With The Last Guardian finally coming out of its almost ten years of development hell, the desire for this game surprises Sony in the form of the pre-order numbers.

The Last Guardian pre-order numbers have surprised Sony

According to an interview with Sony's product manager, Joe Palmer, by MCV, he said: "I can't comment with specific details, but I can say that pre-orders for The Last Guardian are exceeding expectations," he said. "We've seen a really positive response to the Collector's Edition in particular, which despite its higher price point proves there's a huge appetite for the game."

When MCV asked Mr Palmer about if the development team cared about the hype that have been building throughout the years, he answered the team didn't pay attention to it too much. Palmer explained: "We've tried to avoid fuelling the hype by playing on the fact that people have been waiting a long time for this"

Xbox One defeats PS4 in online Black Friday sales

| Dec 5, 2016 8:30 AM CST

Black Friday had come and gone with Cyber Monday completed as well. So after all the hectic craziness of shopping for great deals over the Thanksgiving weekend, Microsoft once again defeated Sony in console sales online.

According to Adobe's annual market-tracking data for the United States, the Xbox One was recorded as the fifth best-selling electronics brand online during the Black Friday event. As all other items and products ahead of the Xbox One where not gaming consoles, it meant that Microsoft once again took the number one spot for sales over Sony's PlayStation 4.

For now it seems that Microsoft have the upper hand when it comes to sales, though for how ever long they maintain this position is yet to be seen.

Mass Effect: Andromeda to support 21:9 UltraWide on PC

| Dec 5, 2016 7:24 AM CST

In addition to building Mass Effect: Andromeda completely from scratch in DICE's next-gen Frostbite 3 engine, BioWare now confirms that it plans to support 21:9 UltraWide resolution on PCs when the game launches in 2017.

Mass Effect: Andromeda to support 21:9 UltraWide on PC

BioWare is going lengths to ensure Mass Effect: Andromeda taps the full potential of PC platforms. The developers have not only confirmed the next-gen Mass Effect won't be locked to 30FPS on PC, but now BioWare producer Mike Gamble says the game should natively support 21:9 UltraWide aspect ratio monitors--something that's usually missing in major PC releases these days.

Flynn also confirmed that ME: Andromeda would have full gamepad support on PC, and that the game has HDR support, but this is likely referring to the PS4 Pro and not PC monitors. The game is also fully optimized for 4K on both PC and Sony's new PlayStation Pro console--although the latter will be upscaled 4K at locked to 30FPS, and will also have super-sampled graphics on 1080p HDTVs. PC, of course, will run at native 4K--provided you have a beefy enough graphics card.
