EA's Star Wars games have made $3 billion, multiple new games in dev
EA has made over $3 billion from Star Wars games and the publisher has no plans to abandon the franchise.
EA has a rocky history with Star Wars games. The publisher has cancelled three high-profile titles to date; Project Ragtag, an ambitious bounty hunter/Uncharted game that died alongside Visceral Games; Project Orca, an open-world game from EA Vancouver; and Project Viking, a Battlefront-style spin-off also from EA Vancouver.
As a result, Disney has now given other studios like Ubisoft the rights to make their own Star Wars games.

Battlefield 6: Spring reveal, 2021 launch, all-out military warfare
EA says Battlefield 6 will feature "all-out military warfare" and all but confirms the massive 128-player rumors we've been hearing about.
According to EA, the next Battlefield will be bigger than ever before. EA CEO Andrew Wilson teases absolutely huge maps, more players than ever before, and big next-gen console upgrades. No specifics on perf targets were revealed, but EA did confirm Battlefield 6 is farther along than any other previous game--which signals DICE has been working on it for some time.
This is good news considering the game is set to release Holiday 2021 on next-gen systems and PC. A full reveal is coming sometime in Spring, the company said.

Switch sales ignite holiday 2020 with third straight quarterly record
Nintendo Switch sales hit a new all-time high in Q3, leading to the third consecutive record-breaking quarter in a row.
Four years in, the Nintendo Switch is more popular than ever. 2020 has been monumental for Nintendo, and the vital holiday period is no different: In Q3, which ends in December, Nintendo sold an astronomical 11.57 million Switch consoles. These results weren't just a new high for Q3 sales, but historical quarterly volume: Q3 had more console sales than any other quarter since the Switch launched in March 2017.
The handheld-console hybrid has now sold over 79 million units worldwide, including the Switch Lite, which has now sold nearly as much as the Wii U.

Mass Effect remaster side-by-side comparison shows big console upgrade
The new Mass Effect trilogy remaster looks absolutely epic in 4K with HDR enabled, and BioWare also confirms next-gen optimizations for the new re-release.
Mass Effect Legendary Edition drops on May 14, 2021 on PS4, Xbox One, and PC, and will a free next-gen boost on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X consoles. Every game in the trilogy will hit a solid 4K 60FPS with HDR on PS5 and Xbox Series X, but perf is reduced on PS4 and Xbox One.
Sadly there's no ray tracing, but that's to be expected. Although EA and DICE have been helping Microsoft push its new DXR ray-tracing tech on Xbox and Windows 10, the Mass Effect games are built on a different BioWare engine with rasterization, and are pretty old games to boot.

GALAX GeForce RTX 3090 HOF smashes 16 world records, GPU hits 3GHz
GALAX has just revealed its new flagship GeForce RTX 3090 HOF graphics cards, with OGS from HwBox Hellas OC Team and Rauf from Alza OC -- both professional overclockers -- using the new GALAX RTX 3090 HOF to smash some world records.
They used liquid nitrogen cooling to push the GALAX GeForce RTX 3090 HOF graphics cards to their 3GHz+ limits as well as GPUPI software, breaking 16 world records with their massively-overclocked GALAX GeForce RTX 3090 HOF graphics card. OGS got his GALAX RTX 3090 HOF sample to hit 2805MHz boost with the actual GPU clocks touching 3015MHz using HPUPI 3.2 1B, which is incredible.
Rauf saw his GALAX RTX 3090 HOF hitting 2795MHz and a true clock of 3000MHz -- just short of OGS. Rauf commented: "Amazing Galax 3090 HOF! Unbinned, random card :)" while OGS said: "First 3+ GHz 3090 done by Galax. The way its meant to be overclocked. :) HOF is back. Thanks to Galax, ASUS, Crucial and Thermal Grizzly for the support".

GALAX GeForce RTX 3090 HOF is official, 1000W PSU recommended
GALAX has finally made its GeForce RTX 3090 Hall of Fame (HOF) graphics cards official, with not just 1 card announced but 6 new custom GeForce RTX 3090 graphics cards.
The company is using a huge triple-fan design with a gigantic 4.3-inch "HOF Panel III" display with a 480 x 272 resolution. It's not just an LCD display for information, but like a crown for your graphics card with RGB lighting blinging out your system.
All of the new 6 graphics cards in the GeForce RTX 3090 HOF family will include the same white PCB, the same 3 x 8-pin PCIe power connector, and more. But there are differences between the versions as GALAX will be selling some of them globally, and some of the new GALAX RTX 3090 HOF cards are exclusive to China.

Blizzard lets you celebrate its 30th anniversary by buying a $60 pack
Blizzard is commercializing its 30th anniversary with a series of microtransaction packs that "celebrate" decades of gaming.
Blizzard has tried to monetize practically every facet of their games using tactics like cosmetics, lootboxes, and even Diablo III's dreaded Real-Money Auction House. Now the billion-dollar developer is monetizing its own 30th anniversary celebration.
In a recent blog post, Blizzard outlined key details on the free BlizzCon event going live on February 19-20. In the post they mentioned gamers can scoop up some in-game goodies to commemorate Blizzard's 30-year legacy of gaming. In 2021, Blizzard will indeed by 30 years old.

Sonic the Hedgehog movie success leads to a new Blue Blur TV show
On the heels of 2020's successful Sonic the Hedgehog film, SEGA and Netflix are teaming up for a new TV show.
After 27 years, the Blue Blur is finally coming back to the small screen. Netflix today announced Sonic Prime, a new 3D animated series that will premiere on the service sometime in 2022. No exact details on the show have been revealed, but we do know Ben 10 creation/production studio Man of Action Entertainment and Canadian animation studio WildBrain Studios are involved in the project.
The new show is a big move for SEGA, who's been hit especially hard by COVID-19 lockdowns. SEGA's arcade gaming business has suffered significant losses as more people stay home away from large crowded areas, forcing the company to sell off 85% of its arcade division shares. The Sonic movie helped revitalize the series and push game sales up, while also grossing more than 3x its production budget.

Google no longer wants to invest into Stadia, kills first-party games
Google is done investing in Stadia, and will soon relegate the service into a third-party streaming and storefront platform.
Today, Google announced that it will no longer put money into new first-party Stadia exclusives. Google has ceased funding for its Games & Entertainment projects, and both of Stadia's two game studios will be closed. Sources tell Kotaku that roughly 150 people will be affected by the closure. Division head Jade Raymond, who has commanded key roles in the industry, has also left Stadia.
Google will now use Stadia to exclusively sell subscriptions and full-priced third-party games--an unpopular business model in a landscape that's dominated by Project xCloud's tremendous value. It's also worth noting that the entire digital gaming industry is seeing significant surges in revenues, sales, and earnings, so this timing suggests Stadia is (and was) didn't live up to Google's expectations.

GALAX teases upcoming GeForce RTX 3090 HOF, another card you can't buy
We've known the GALAX GeForce RTX 3090 HOF (Hall of Fame) was coming soon, but GALAX is teasing its new flagship graphics card once again. Check it out:
The new tease is really just that -- a tease -- of their upcoming flagship GeForce RTX 3090 HOF graphics card. We know that it will be coming in two variants now, both of which will pack a massive LCD display. This isn't new as companies like COLORFUL have great LCD displays on their custom GeForce RTX 30 series graphics cards.
We still don't know about GPU clocks, whether there's any overclocking on the 24GB of GDDR6X (doubt it), or anything like that -- but we do know it'll have NVLink fingers for SLI support, 3 x 8-pin PCIe power connectors, a HOF Support Stick (VGA support for horizontally mounted graphics cards), a white extension cable, a pair of HOF gloves, and 1 Click Pro-Cable (possibly acting as a BIOS switch feature).

TSMC ramps car chip production for manufacturers, swaps for vaccines
Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) has announced that it will be making automobile processors at a much faster rate, as governments across the wrold struggle getting their hands-on those chips for new cars.
The global shortage of automobile chips is causing enough of an issue economically that governments have requested authorities in Taiwan to push TSMC to increase production of the much-needed automotive processors. Taiwan's Minister of Economic Affairs Ms. Mei-Hua Wang requested a meeting with representatives from Germany, TSMC, dean of Taiwan's Economic Research Institute and other semiconductor companies.
In this meeting they talked about shortage of automotive chips, and how Germany along with other countries in the world could assist Taiwan -- where Taiwan (through TSMC) would make automotive chips at a rate that no other company in the world can do right now -- in exchange for COVID-19 vaccines.

AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT logo teased, will rock 12GB GDDR6 memory
AMD has launched a trio of its new Big Navi cards and while they might be nigh impossible to find, the company isn't stopping with the releases... next up, the Radeon RX 6700 XT.
Andreas Schilling from HardwareLuxx has teased the Radeon RX 6700 XT graphics card, saying "Soon - sometime in H1 2021 or is it Q1". He added that the Radeon RX 6700 XT will be aimed at 1440p gaming, and will rock 12GB of GDDR6 memory -- down from the 16GB of GDDR6 that ships on the Radeon RX 6800, RX 6800 XT, and RX 6900 XT graphics cards.
AMD's upcoming Radeon RX 6700 XT is expected to have its 12GB of GDDR6 memory on a 192-bit memory bus, with the full Navi 22 GPU packing 2560 Stream Processors. We don't know if AMD will be launching a new non-XT model of the Radeon RX 6700 XT, I'm sure it will, but we'll have to wait and see.

There's now r/SatoshiStreetBets, the crypto version of WallStreetBets
We all know how much WallStreetBets has been in the headlines -- so too has u/DeepFuckingValue who kicked all of this off with GameStop -- and pretty much matching Robinhood at this point, but now we're joined by the self-proclaimed "crypto version of WallStreetBets" with SatoshiStreetBets.
The r/SatoshiStreetBets subreddit was created nearly a year ago on February 23, 2020 -- and is now getting a big injection of users and posts because of the huge push of not just WallStreetBets and GameStop, AMC, BlackBerry, Nokia and other stocks -- but cryptocurrencies are pumping, too.
DOGE has gone ballistic, with diamond hands holding that up hundreds of percent, with some posters on r/SatoshiStreetBets wanting to see GameStop accepting DogeCoin as a payment. That might sound crazy, but I don't think it's crazy anymore. GameStop would be nuts not to cater to all the people that have rallied behind it, and literally put their money where their mouths are and held the line.

Robinhood blocks users from their statements, needed to change brokers
Seriously, I'm not sure how any leadership at Robinhood is sleeping right now -- but things have gone from bad to so much more worse with their latest move.
Robinhood, in their infinite wisdom, is now blocking users from getting their statements -- something I noticed in a post on r/WallStreetBets. Why are the statements important? Well, you need those statements from your Robinhood account in order to transfer over to another broker that isn't on fire.
It was only a couple of days ago that Robinhood stopped their Instant Deposits for crypto, which pissed a lot of people off -- but left the Instant Deposit features for crypto for Gold members. Robinhood CEO also said during an interview that the limited buying of GameStop shares was to "protect" people, and the company.

Intel DG1 SDV graphics card teardown gets down, dirty in (PCB) nudes
Intel launched its new , the first teardown of the Intel DG1 Software Development Vehicle is here. Here's the front of the card:
The new Intel DG1 SDV (Software Development Vehicle) is not the card that was announced a few days ago -- that is the Intel Iris Xe for OEMs -- the DG1 SDV was a card that was sent out to developers so they could tweak their software to work on the new Xe GPU architecture.
Our friends at Igor's Lab have taken apart the card, with the Intel DG1 GPU using the Xe-LP architecture that is manufactured on Intel's 10nm SuperFin node. As for the DG1 SDV, it packs 96 Execution Units, up from the 80CU version that was unveiled last week.

Elon Musk trying to make a 'good version' of Cyberpunk 'come true'
Elon Musk is on a huge roll right now, tweeting out about Bitcoin, DOGE and seeing the price skyrocket, and everything in between -- but now he's talking about Cyberpunk 2077 again.
In a tweet just a few minutes ago, the SpaceX founder re-tweeted Neuralink and then asked for people to please consider working at Neuralink. He said that their short-term goals were solving brain and spin injuries, while their long-term goals were the human/AI symbiosis, adding that the "latter will be species-level important".
But in the follow-up tweet to that, Musk said it "feels weird helping make (hopefully good version of) Cyberpunk come true". Cyberpunk 2077 is filled with body modifications that pretty much are like superpowers: enhanced vision, robotic arms, weapons coming out of your body, and everything in between.

Gran Turismo 7 won't be online-focused, to be traditional like GT1
Unlike GT Sport, Gran Turismo 7 will be a more traditional racing game that goes back to the franchise's roots.
Gran Turismo 7 should set a new high watermark for the PlayStation 5. Developer Polyphony Digital plans to use GT7 to fully exemplify and flex the PS5's power with high-end performance targets like 4K 60FPS, high-fidelity textures, and enhanced lighting effects via ray-traced visuals. Now we know more details about the next-gen racer.
In a recent interview with Octane Japan, Polyphony CEO Kazunori Yamauchi confirmed GT7 won't follow GT Sport's online-driven esports focus. Instead, GT7 will be a more mainline game similar to the original Gran Turismo.

Starbreeze still hasn't secured a publisher for Payday 3
Starbreeze Studios needs Payday 3 to save it from financial doom, but the company still hasn't found a publishing partner for the sequel.
Payday developer Starbreeze is in trouble. The company has lots of debt and needs to stabilize its balance sheets with a big new game. Payday 3 is the company's only hope, and Starbreeze's Overkill division has been developing the sequel for years now. There's just one big problem: The game still doesn't have a publisher.
Starbreeze is in a position where it can pay millions to fund Payday 3's development, but it doesn't have the cashflow to publish and distribute the game. It needs the backing of a bigger company like 505 Games, WB Games, or even EA to properly release Payday 3.
