Fortnite is 'like heroin,' says addiction specialist
As more and more gamers jump into the battle royale craze, Fortnite's incredible wide-sweeping popularity comes at a human cost.
Epic Games makes billions from Fortnite. The game is a monstrous success in microtransaction revenues, engagement, and overall exposure, but players are paying more than money or time for the experience. Some are developing addictions that are increasingly hard to shake--and it's not just adults. According to a Bloomberg report, experts warn that Fortnite addiction is running rampant and is interrupting people's jobs, relationships, draining bank accounts, and may be setting kids up for lifelong battles with interactive-based behavioral disease.
"This game is like heroin. Once you are hooked, it's hard to get unhooked," addiction behavioral specialist Lorraine Marer told Bloomberg.

Path of Exile PS4 port delayed, release date February 2019
The coming PS4 port of Path of Exile has been delayed by developer Grinding Gear Games, PS4 players will now have to wait until sometime in February next year to get their hands-on the title.
The announcement comes from the games official website and details that the PS4 port has been delayed due to the certification process taking longer than expected. "We underestimated the amount of work it would take to finish the certification process during the busy Christmas period."
The post continues and says that Grinding Gear Games feel much more comfortable "promising early February as a target release window." In the middle of the certification process, Grinding Gear Games have said that during this time improvements will be made to "performance/frame rate." To finalize everything up, the developer apologizes to PS4 fans "We understand that many PlayStation users were keen to play Betrayal over Christmas and have been eagerly awaiting release date news. We promise that Path of Exile will be awesome on PlayStation 4 when it is released early next year". Path of Exile is currently available on PC and Xbox One.

Darksiders III FOV slider mod available to download
Now that Gunfire Games' Darksiders III has released, we are hearing along the grapevine that the title is suffering from some pretty serious camera issues. To assist those that are struggling with this issue a mod has been created and is available to download.
Darksiders III released a few days ago and some gamers that have picked up the title have reported that they are having camera issues while trying to enjoy their newly purchased game. Unfortuantely, Gunfire Games has not provided gamers with an FOV slider, so these camera issues cannot be fixed natively inside the setting on PC. Players that want to add a custom FOV slider will have to download this mod here.
The mod has been created by susahamat and according to DSOgaming the file is completely safe to download and does not contain any viruses. DSOGaming also reports that the mod works as intended and the FOV can be changed by pressing the "]" and the "[" key. Gunfire Games are currently working on the first patch for Darksiders III, it hasn't been confirmed that the coming patch will contain camera fixes but we can only hope so. Want more news on Darksiders III? Check out the concept art and wallpaers that were released a few days ago, more on that here. There also has been trailers released featuring main character Fury, check those out here and here.

If you haven't already jumped into the Star Wars Battlefront II Obi-Wan Kenobi and Geonosis update it has already hit the live servers. To shine some light on what the update contains, EA has released an explanation video onto their YouTube Channel.
The above video features a commentator that runs us through what the update will be bringing players. The commentator explains that players will be getting the Galactic Assault map of Geonosis and will introduce Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi, the 212th Attack Battalion, AT-TE, STAP and the BARC speeder. If you want to check out gameplay on what was mentioned above, visit my post here.
Additionally, EA will be bringing players some different skins for General Grievous titled "shattered armor", a quick description of the skin has been provided on the update patch notes, "With a ripped cape, shattered mask, and smoke and sparks coming from his cybernetics, this unique look truly stands out from the crowd, and embodies the hard-earned conquests of the feared Separatist Supreme Commander." Judging from the comment section in the above video, many players seem to very happy about the decision of bringing the Clone Wars to Battlefront II, hopefully DICE or EA listen to their fan base more and follow what they want, maybe then they will attract more players back to Battlefront II.

Masahiro Sakurai has revealed that buyers who pick up a physical release of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate will have to download a day 1 patch on the December 7th launch day.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate director Masahiro Sakurai has revealed in his recent column on Famitsu, that their will be a day 1 update for physical release buyers of Smash Ultimate. Digital buyers will not have to download the update and it isn't clear how big the initial download will be.
Here is what Sakurai had to say in full "We will distribute our first update on launch day. Players who purchased the digital version don't need to worry, but players who purchased the physical version should apply this day-one patch before you play. This will also prevent your replays from going off-track. By the way, if you save your replays as videos, you can keep them forever, but note that they take up a lot of space!" Super Smash Bros. Ultimate will be launching exclusively on the Nintendo Switch on December 7th.

New rumors on Rocksteady's upcoming Superman game leaks
New rumors have surfaced on Rocksteady's new game which should be a new Superman game, something that could be called Superman: World's Finest.
The latest report is coming from a spotting of the game on Game System Requirements by ResetEra, but the name 'Superman: World's Finest' isn't new as it did turn up from a 4chan leak before E3 2018. This news is important as we're getting close to The Game Awards event, where it would be a huge deal to unveil a new Superman game.
Remember that Batman Arkham developer Rocksteady Games listed a bunch of jobs earlier this year for "a AAA title on the next generation platforms". The rumor at the time teased an open-world game that would let you play as Superman, Batman, Robin, and others.

Dragon Age 4 may be revealed next month
BioWare is making a new Dragon Age game, and it could see a reveal--or at the very least an official stage confirmation--at The Game Awards 2018.
We've known BioWare is making a new Dragon Age game for a while now. Studio executive producer Mark Darrah teased the project back in 2016 and ever since then bits and pieces have ebbed into the sea of news. Thanks to this flow we actually know a fair bit about the new Dragon Age game.
But we may learn even more very, very soon. BioWare General Manager Casey Hudson says new info will be shared next month, leading us to believe Dragon Age 4 (or whatever it's called) could be formally revealed or at the very least officially confirmed during The Game Awards 2018.

Obsidian's new RPG teased with Fallout, BioShock-like ads
Obsidian's new RPG has yet to be announced, but the devs give us a sampling of its unique visual style.
New banners on Obsidian Entertainment's official website offer a small look at its new RPG, namely its artistic flair. Sources told TweakTown in 2017 that the new RPG is based in a new IP, and aims to be Obsidian's answer to Fallout--which is only fitting given Fallout series creator Tim Cain is leading the project.
While these details have yet to be verified, the new fourth-wall breaking advertisements seem to align with our sources' info. The ads channel an older 1950's vintage Fallout- and BioShock-esque style, bringing to mind an age of sci-fi comics, nuclear families, and dreams of flying cars.

PlayStation Classic specs revealed
Sony's new $100 PlayStation Classic packs enough power for optimum emulation, but the software throws off performance.
Retro mini consoles are all the rage these days and offer the likes of Sony and Nintendo ways to make a quick buck. These boxes are cheap to make and cash in on nostalgia, but unlike the NES and SNES Classic Editions, Sony's latest PlayStation mini actually has decent specifications for old-school emulation.
According to a teardown from Eurogamer, the micro-console features a MediaTek MT8167A SoC (the same used in Acer's 10-inch Iconia tablet) alongside 1GB of 1866MHz RAM.

Nintendo scraps controversial Creator's Program
Nintendo has decided to relax its vice grip on IP protection and give YouTubers, livestreamers, and content creators more flexibility on covering its games.
Nintendo is tired of letting its control issues get in the way of free press, exposure, and accessibility, and has now decided to kill off its strict Creator's Program. The company announced that the Creator's Program, which instilled strong regulations that content creators had to uphold lest they face channel strikes or even IP infringement, is shutting down in December 2018. The games-maker has replaced the draconian ruleset with a more creator-friendly set of guidelines (but there's still some similarities and red flags).
First off, Nintendo still wants its cut of advertisement revenue. Content creators can't monetize videos of Nintendo-copyrighted content unless the company says so, and whenever you earn any money from Nintendo Game Content (NGC) it goes to Nintendo first and you get to keep the rest. That part hasn't changed.

Nintendo declines plans for Zelda: Skyward Sword Switch port
It appears that we will not be getting a Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword Nintendo Switch port, Nintendo has just recently confirmed that they have "no plans" in the works.
Just a couple days ago, we heard about The Legend of Zelda producer Eiji Aonuma, talk about a Nintendo Switch port for Zelda: Skyward Sword. Despite Aonuma's tease at a Legend of Zelda concert in Osaka Japan, Nintendo have confirmed in a statement to Eurogamer that "At this time we have no plans to release The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword on Nintendo Switch."
Maybe now that Skyward Sword has been confirmed to be arriving anytime soon on the Nintendo Switch, we might see other Zelda titles such as The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD or The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD considered? In my opinion, the more Zelda titles on the Switch the better. For more information regarding Zelda on the Nintendo Switch, check out the Breath of the Wild store listing on the Nintendo Switch website here.

Why Kirby survives in Smash Bros. Ultimate 'World of Light'
After we saw the official Adventure Mode 'World of Light' trailer released for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, questions arose to why Kirby was chosen to survive Galeem. Smash Bros director, Masahiro Sakurai has given an explanation why.
Before jumping into the reasons why Kirby survived, if you haven't watched the World of Light trailer for Smash Ultimate check that out here and then return to this article. Jumping into the explanation now, Sakurai says that the reason for Kirby's survival is not because he was the original creator of the serious, but because from a game design perspective Kirby was simply the best choice for the role. Sakurai further explains why Kirby was chosen and the decision revolves around his Warp Star being able to defy physics.
"We needed a solid, convincing reason for why said character could outrun Galeem. All fighters possessing 'normal' abilities were immediately disqualified. Given that its assault enveloped the ends of the galaxy, only a vehicle that could defy the laws of physics would work. Even short-distance teleportation wouldn't be enough." Sakurai continues and says "Some of you may have forgotten, but Kirby's Warp Star has been able to, you know, warp since his very first game. That alone made him a pretty solid contender. The only other two fighters that could have survived would have been Bayonetta or Palutena. That said, Bayonetta's enemies from Purgatorio (a hellish other world) were turned into Spirits, so it wouldn't have made sense for her to escape. Other divine beings like Hades were also turned into Spirits, so there was no way Palutena could have survived, too."

Ashe is now in Overwatch competitive mode, and she's OP AF
If you've played Overwatch in the last 24 hours you'll have noticed that Blizzard has unleashed its latest character Ashe into competitive play, and she's so overpowered right now it's not funny. Pro tip: if someone throws Ashe's dynamite at you... RUN.
Ashe has been playable for weeks now but not in competitive play, a Blizzard standard for new Overwatch characters. Ashe is the latest in a slew of characters to play, and she's unbelievably powerful with a super-powerful ultimate. She can be great in tight situations, and flex out in long-ranged combat with her dynamite that can be thrown and spew fire onto surrounding players.
Ashe sports a semi-automatic rifle that fires quick shots, but you can also aim down the sights for more precise shots at picking enemies off in the distance. Her dynamite can be thrown as an explosive that blows up after a small delay, or right away if you - or someone else, shoots it. There's also DOT (damage over time) from the dynamite, as it engulfs enemies in flames. She also has her Coach Gun that blasts enemies away from her, and over ledges and cliffs in the right level, as well as throwing herself backwards to get out of a fight quickly.

Bethesda SCREWS GAMERS over $200 version of Fallout 76
I don't even know what to say about Fallout 76 at this point, but I'm sure the upper management of Bethesda are blaming everyone under them because reasons. If you didn't think the situation could get any worse, strap yourself in.
Overnight a story broke out that the $200 version of Fallout 76 in the Power Armor Edition has been shipping in a worse state than the game. Bethesda promised in its own advertising that the Power Armor Edition was to include a military-style "canvas west tek duffel bag" which looked pretty cool, except gamers are now receiving their $200 bundles and it has been replaced with a crappy nylon bag.
This is what gamers are getting, with the first image showing the full bundle that Bethesda PROMISED gamers.

Obsidian reveals new RPG next week
After years of development, Obsidian is finally ready to reveal its next big new RPG.
Obsidian's new Fallout-esque RPG will be unveiled at The Game Awards 2018 showcase, Geoff Keighley today announced. The game will be part of the show's reveal lineup which includes 10 new world premiere announcements (a new Alien game called Blackout is likely too). While official details are light, sources told TweakTown in 2017 that the new RPG project would be led by Fallout creator Tim Cain and aims to be Obsidian's own unique answer to Fallout. The game should be the start of a new IP, sources said.
Although Obsidian Entertainment is now owned by Microsoft, its previous deal with Take-Two Interactive still stands. Obsidian signed a deal to publish its new RPG under Take-Two's new Private Division banner. We also know the new RPG is being built with Unreal Engine 4 instead of the studio's proprietary Onyx engine.

Lootboxes aren't gambling, ESA says
As the FTC holds a magnifying glass to lootboxes, the ESA doesn't think they're exploitative gambling mechanisms.
It seems everyone's weighing in lootboxes--worldwide governments, the FTC, the UK Gambling Commission--and they all want to know one thing: are they gambling? The Electronic Software Association recently weighed in on gaming's biggest microtransaction fad with a concrete "no," which isn't surprising as the group houses many of the publishers selling these billion-dollar digital boxes.
"Loot boxes are one way that players can enhance the experience that video games offer. Contrary to assertions, loot boxes are not gambling," the Electronic Software Association told Polygon. "They have no real-world value, players always receive something that enhances their experience, and they are entirely optional to purchase. They can enhance the experience for those who choose to use them, but have no impact on those who do not."

FTC to investigate lootboxes
As major world governments weigh in on lootboxes as gambling mechanisms, regulations may compromise the lucrative, flowing river of cash publishers like EA and Activision-Blizzard collect.
The Federal Trade Commission will soon investigate, evaluate, and scrutinize lootboxes in an effort to explore possible relation to gambling addiction and other socio-economic problems. FTC chairman Joseph Simons told Congress yesterday that an investigation into lootboxes would happen, and all commissioners support the initiative.
The industry's live service market may be regulated soon, and publishers need to start planning for a stricter microtransaction rulesets. This possible regulation is likely to affect free-to-play mobile games and console titles like Fortnite, and could tremendously disrupt the industry. Lootboxes and microtransactions are now more important to video game publishers than ever, and many rely heavily on recurring revenues gleaned from engagement monetization.
