New Battlefield's release date leaked, set in World War 1
Battlefield 5 has just leaked onto the net, except it's not exactly the fifth sequel--DICE's new FPS will actually be called Battlefield 1, and it'll release in October.
The new World War 1-based Battlefield game will release on Tuesday, October 18, 2016 according to freshly leaked in-store promos. The artwork advises gamers to "pre-order the Hellfighter pack" and clearly lists the release date.
Battlefield 1's artwork was accidentally leaked on the Xbox One storefront, along with a bunch of the same in-store promos. The game is expected to take place in an alternate World War 1 timeline, and the art shows obvious ties to the era along with what appears to be a zeppelin in the upper right-hand corner. DICE and EA are set to unveil the game today at 4PM during a live stream, and devs will be on hand to reveal new info about the WW1 shooter.

Battlefield 5 to be called Battlefield 1, set in WW1
The next Battlefield game will be set in World War 1, according to leaked in-store promos.
Battlefield 5 will apparently be called "Battlefield 1", and as you guessed it'll take place in what could be an alternate WW1 setting. The leaked promotional artwork has also been shown off on the Xbox One's marketplace, pretty much confirming the original artwork. Besides the obvious weaponry, it looks like there's a huge zeppelin looming in the upper right hand corner.
The studio has since released a brief teaser showing in-engine footage, and DICE is set to reveal the game today during a live stream at 4PM EST. We'll be sure to keep you updated on all the latest Battlefield news, and the devs will reveal tons of extra tidbits about the new Battlefield at the show.

Forza Motorsport 6: Apex looks incredible on the PC at 4K
DOOM will include an 'Ultra Nightmare' graphics setting on the PC which has me excited, but you need to see what Forza Motorsport 6: Apex has turned out to be on the PC at 4K - it looks incredible!
As you can see, this is a ridiculously good looking game. Forza Motorsport 6: Apex is a DX12 only racer, with Turn 10 Studios putting in the hard yards to make it look great. If you thought Project CARS looked good, you might need to think again - these screenshots will have you wanting to upgrade your PC, stat.

DOOM will include an 'Ultra Nightmare' graphics setting on the PC
With DOOM right around the corner, id Software's Lead Renderer Programmer, Tiago Sousa, teasing that the PC version of the game will feature an "Ultra Nightmare" graphics setting.
The Ultra Nightmare graphics setting is only available on the PC, with Sousa taking to Twitter to say that the Ultra Nightmare graphics setting is "a step above Ultra". DOOM will feature Low, Medium, High, Ultra and the exciting Ultra Nightmare graphics presets.
I'm now very keen to see if id Software has done their work and provided some insane graphics for the Ultra Nightmare graphics feature and that it's not just a tiny unnoticeable jump from Ultra. DOOM will require 50GB of HDD space on the Xbox One and PS4, so let's hope the PC version is really holding something back and that DOOM is unleashed with its Ultra Nightmare graphics when it's released next week.

Dishonored 2 mods could come to consoles via Bethseda.net launcher
Bethesda's new PC games launcher could pave the way for cross-platform mod support on all of the publisher's future games.
Dishonored 2's PC mods will be hosted on the Bethesda.net launcher, according to a snippet in the most recent Game Informer magazine. When asked about Dishonored 2 mods, the company said "please download Bethesda.net". Arkane dev Harvey Smith also hinted Dishonored 2 mods are coming by saying "We can't talk about our plans in that area just yet" in a recent interview.
Bethesda is already using the launcher to host Fallout 4's Creation Kit mods on both PC and consoles, and it looks like the infrastructure will now be a mainstay for all upcoming Bethsoft games. It's possible that Dishonored 2's mods could cross over to consoles, too, along with all of the company's future games. That would be a pretty big plus for console gamers.

The young Han Solo spin-off is a go, as Lucasfilm find their actor
Announced last year, the spin-off Han Solo film had many questioning just who in the world had the acting chops to step into the shoes of Harrison Ford. Nearly a year later the answer is here.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, 26 year old American actor Alden Ehrenreich is in final negotiations to star as Han Solo in the unnamed upcoming film, which will be directed by 'The Lego Movie' and '22 Jump Street' duo Phil Lord and Chris Miller. Ehrenreich last stole the screen in the Coen Brothers 2015 comedy 'Hail Caesar!'.
The film is expected to hit screens at the end of 2018.

AMD's new Zen CPU will arrive in 6 and 8-core versions at launch
AMD will reportedly keep its next-gen Zen CPUs at the higher-end of the scale when they launch later this year, with 6- and 8-core variants being the status quo.
The dual- and quad-core variants of Zen won't launch at first, but AMD is expected to launch Bristol Ridge-based dual- and quad-core processors right away. AMD will reportedly be using 8-core dies in the fabrication process of Zen-based processors because it's the best way to get the most out of the production of its Summit Ridge processors.
This means AMD can not only provide a very powerful processor, but it'll cost the company less to only make a higher-end version at first, rather than multiple SKUs. This all falls onto the shoulders of the yields, which if they're not good - we might see dual- and quad-core versions of Zen quicker than normal. If the yields are good, AMD could finally find itself in a better position to fight Intel's unstoppable CPU dominance.

iPhone 7 could have a 3.5mm headphone jack after all
Apple's next-generation iPhone 7 might not force millions of mobile owners to buy new accessories after all.
When reports broke out that Apple's iPhone 7 would replace the 3.5mm headphone jack with a new all-in-one Lightning connector, the mighty tech giant drew the ire of millions of iPhone owners across the world. Luckily, it looks like those reports are false, and the iPhone 7 will keep the 3.5mm jack.
According to a recently leaked photo of the iPhone 7's innards, the new flagship will sport a 3.5mm jack. The component was compared to that of an iPhone 6S, showing obvious similarities and differences that could indicate it's a new iPhone model. Then again, the source of the leak is unverified--as they so often are--so this could be a fake.

Doom PC specs released, takes up 50GB on PS4 and Xbox One
Bethseda has just released a launch trailer for Doom, accompanied by a fresh batch of info for id's diabolic new shooter.
We're about a week away from Doom's release, and a new Bethesda.net update reveals the PC requirements for the hellish FPS. The minimum specs aren't too bad--you'll need at least an Intel i5 2400 CPU, an NVIDIA GTX 670 and 8GB of onboard RAM to run the game. Doom will be pretty sizable at 55GB, and PS4/Xbox One owners have to clear out 50GB of space on their consoles (which is a full 1/10th of each console's stock HDD).
Minimum:

New Xbox will be '5 times more powerful' than PS4 Neo, rocks 10 TFLOPs
Microsoft's new Xbox, codenamed Xbox NeXt, won't be a mid-cycle upgrade--it'll be a fully fledged next-gen console with higher-end PC-grade hardware. That's according to an Italian games industry insider, who made some pretty bold claims on his blog site.
An unverified source told Italian games insider x-ray that Microsoft isn't going to counter Sony's PlayStation Neo with an Xbox One upgrade, but instead make the jump to the next generation. The insider claims the new Xbox NeXt will be extremely powerful and eclipse Sony's 4K-upscaled PS4 Neo, with performance up to 5-6 times that of the Neo with an insane 10 TFLOPs compute performance. Keep in mind the following quotes are translated, so there may be some margin of error.
"I got to to read some slides from Microsoft and AMD about the new Xbox, it is in effect a new model, not a re-visitation of one. They should announce this year at a separate event at E3 2016, but still a few days before fair. the announcement will be made this year but the release of the Xbox next is expected no earlier than next spring, to read the roadmap. It will be open to change hardware, I did not understand if via upgrade or if talking about modifications which may operate on-the-fly, before the release, it will be already extremely powerful starting, I think 5-6 times PS4 Neo, we are something in the order of over 10 TFLOPS, or so. "

NVIDIA confirms the GeForce GTX 1080 cooler, kinda
We just reported on leaked benchmarks and details of the upcoming GeForce GTX 1080, but now we have some better confirmation of the cooler on the Pascal-based video card.
NVIDIA has recently updated its GeForce website, providing a new background that teased the new GeForce GTX 1080/1070 cooler design. The new 'Polygonal' cooler succeeds the NVTTM design, which we've been posting about for a while now.
The folks at VideoCardz picked it up and have the picture above. It's a sweet looking design, which reminds me of a racecar for some reason - and that is really getting my engine going.

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 leaked benchmarks tease 8GB RAM at 10GHz
NVIDIA is expected to unveil its next-gen GeForce GTX 1080 video card in the next 48 hours, with the latest rumor being quite exciting indeed - the GTX 1080 will reportedly rock 8GB of GDDR5X, at an insane 10GHz.
As it stands, the GeForce GTX 980 Ti has 6GB of GDDR5 (no X) at 7GHz. The last rumors stated the new card would hit 8GHz, but 10GHz provides around 320GB/sec of memory bandwidth - if the GTX 1080 keeps its 256-bit memory bus. If it's knocked up to 384-bit, well - then we should be very excited.
Not only that, but there are now leaked benchmarks teasing 3DMark 11 performance. The new GeForce GTX 1080 performed well in the 3DMark 11 Performance test at 720p, scoring 27,683 points - comparing this to overclocked GTX 980 Ti cards which score between 23,000 and 25,000 - that's not too bad at all. It's not the insane jump people were expecting, but this is the GTX 1080 and not the bigger GTX 1080 Ti that will find its way to reality in the future.

Live TV coming to YouTube coming next year, sources say
Hulu will be livestreaming TV next year and it looks as though YouTube will be doing the same, according to people familiar with the matter.
It's said YouTube has overhauled its technical architecture to accommodate the new service which could debut as early as 2017, and that the company has discussed plans with most major media companies, including Comcast, NBC, and many more. No rights have as of yet been secured, but it's possible the Hulu deal could help grease the wheels.
The service would be called Unplugged, a nod to the ever-growing community of people commonly known as cord cutters who refuse traditional cable in favor of streaming services.

Battlefield 5's first in-engine footage revealed
EA is hyping up tomorrow's Battlefield 5 reveal with a stunning teaser clip.
Battlefield 5's first engine footage is just a 9-second teaser, showing off some impressive visuals, but EA reminds us the footage doesn't represent actual gameplay. The clip, which shows a soldier possibly falling or being eclipsed by some massive object, is undoubtedly part of Battlefield 5's world premiere trailer that's set to unleash tomorrow, May 6 at 4PM EST. DICE developers have promised that the "internet will melt" when the trailer hits, so expect something amazing.
Previous rumors indicated Battlefield 5 could be called "Eastern Front" and take place during World War II, but those rumors have apparently been confirmed as fakes.

DayZ 0.60 beta features DX11 renderer, massively improved framerates
It's been slow going, but looks like it'll have been worth the wait: Bohemia Interactive has released its 0.60 beta update for DayZ, and the reception is great.
The key change with this patch is it includes the first iteration of the new renderer, for which user reports indicate massively improved framerates thanks in part to the power of DirectX 11. One player says he was seeing 25-40 frames per second (FPS) in cities; now he's seeing 60 or higher. Visuals are said to be improved as well.
To gain access to the beta build, follow these steps. Once you're good there, be sure to uncheck 'passworded' in the server browser to find appropriate servers.

Hulu CEO Mike Hopkins announced that Hulu will expand to live TV broadcasts at the company's event in New York, confirming past reports. Radeon 16.5.1 driver includes big Forza performance increases
Monday's NVIDIA drivers prepared you for the Forza Motorsport 6: Apex beta which launches later today, and now AMD's drivers are doing the same.
Radeon Software Crimson Edition 16.5.1 features up to 27% better performance in the highly anticipated racing title than what you'd see with 16.4.2 when using the R9 Fury X. If you don't own a Fury X, other cards should see similar increases.
As for known issues, AMD notes game crashes and launch failures caused by its overlay, so try disabling it for now if you've been experiencing this behaviour. Another big one is flickering in Witcher 3 while using Crossfire; with any luck it will be fixed next driver release.

Sony developing smart contact lenses with life recording
While Google Glass looks to have stalled, Sony looks to be moving forward with wearable eye-tech by registering a patent for some very interesting contact lenses.
According to Futurism, Sony's patent includes the "ability to record and playback images, store them internally, and even autofocus." It's not currently known how far the company has gone into creating real-world applications for such tech (I'd bet not much), but the patent refers to some cutting edge technology such as piezoelectric sensors and tiny electromagnetic induction so I wouldn't expect to see these available to purchase for quite a few years to come. But with tech like this, maybe the future won't be so bad after all.
