New Batman game may star Damian Wayne, Batgirl, set in Court of Owls

| Oct 21, 2019 3:41 PM CDT

The next Batman game may be called Arkham Legacy, and feature a perspective-shifting campaign starring multiple heroes.

New Batman game may star Damian Wayne, Batgirl, set in Court of Owls

Warner Bros. Montreal has been working on a new Batman game for a while now, and it seems to be set in the Court of Owls story arc with a few unexpected twists. The studio has yet to confirm anything other than cryptic teasers and is likely holding off for a big reveal at The Game Awards 2019.

But new potential info hints multiple characters in the Wayne family will be playable, possibly Damien Wayne, Batgirl, and of course the Caped Crusader himself, hence the rumored Arkham Legacy title. The info comes from infamous Smash Bros. and Nintendo leaker Sabi, who tweeter the Arkham Legacy name and said the reports of a playable family in the next Batman seem legit.

New Terminator FPS looks rather boring and tedious

| Oct 21, 2019 1:23 PM CDT

The new Terminator Resistance game includes pretty much everything you don't want in a Terminator shooter, including lots of sneaking, a crafting system, inventory management, and an RPG skill-up pane.

New Terminator FPS looks rather boring and tedious

I didn't have high hopes for the new Terminator shooter right out of the gate. It's being developed by Teyon, the same devs behind the disastrous Rambo game, but Terminator Resistance is looking a bit rough.

A new gameplay trailer for Terminator Resistance pretty much highlights the opposite of what you expect in a shooter. There's lots of evading enemies and tedious hacking, collecting materials, and an overall feeling of helplessness. In the full 27 minute trailer, the player doesn't fire a single shot or get into a gunfight. They just get shot in the back by a T-800 and die right away, or spend most of the time crouch-walking through an area and playing through a Frogger-like hacking mini-game.

Diablo 4 confirmed by artbook advertisement

| Oct 21, 2019 8:14 AM CDT

Diablo IV has been outed by an artbook advertisement, confirming the game will be revealed soon.

Diablo 4 confirmed by artbook advertisement

German games magazine GameStar stole Blizzard's thunder, confirming Diablo IV's existence in an advertisement ahead of its huge Blizzcon 2019 reveal. The ad itself is for a new hardcover Diablo artbook that's slated to release November 3, days after Blizzcon begins. "Featuring over 500 artworks from Diablo, Diablo II, Diablo III and Diablo IV, this book features many noteworthy artworks created for Blizzard Entertainment's iconic action role-playing game that has given generations of fans everlasting nightmares," GameStar magazine reads.

We've known Diablo IV has been in the works for a while now, so this isn't a surprise. Blizzard started hiring for the new game back in 2016, and sources tell Kotaku that Diablo IV has been rebooted at least once. The current version of Diablo IV is more grim, malevolent, and bloody than Diablo III.

Obsidian Entertainment releases PC requirements for 'The Outer Worlds'

| Oct 21, 2019 8:04 AM CDT

The official system requirements for The Outer Worlds have been released, detailing what PC gamers are going to need to run the title.

Obsidian Entertainment releases PC requirements for 'The Outer Worlds'

Obsidian Entertainment has taken to their forums to release the PC requirements for their upcoming title The Outer Worlds. From the releases specs we can see that the game won't be hitting PC very hard at all, while also not taking up a lot of storage space. The minimum PC requirements indicate that users will need to have at least a GTX 650 Ti or an AMD HD 7850 to play the game.

Recommended PC requirements are a GTX 1060 6GB or a Radeon RX 470. For those wondering how much storage is going to be required to install the game, The Outer Worlds comes it at a quite reasonable 40GB. I have listed all of the released PC requirements below, and if you wish to visit the official Obsidian forums you can find that here.

Dentist plonks down $1 million for 40 factory-sealed retro games

| Oct 20, 2019 11:11 PM CDT

Eric Naierman has just plonked down a cool $1.02 million on some sticker-sealed classic games, with it being one of the largest single-transaction sales in gaming history.

Dentist plonks down $1 million for 40 factory-sealed retro games

Eric Naierman is a dentist out of South Florida where he flew over to Denver in September to add to his gaming collection. He secured over three dozen of the most-wanted vintage games in the world, spending $1.02 million on it -- this sale is now one of the largest in gaming history.

All of the games that Naierman secured are "black box" and "sticker-sealed" games, meaning they're in absolute perfect condition. Naierman and a small group of partners called the Video Game Club secured a bunch of games for the original NES including sticker-sealed copies of Mario Bros. arcade edition, the two known copies of Gold, and the only copy of Balloon Flight and Gumshoe.

GTA addict will drive NON STOP in GTA 5 until GTA 6 is released

| Oct 20, 2019 9:11 PM CDT

If you thought you were a fan of Grand Theft Auto... think again, because you're not as dedicated as this one gamer who has said they'll drive around GTA 5 until GTA 6 is released.

GTA addict will drive NON STOP in GTA 5 until GTA 6 is released

Rockstar Games confirmed Grand Theft Auto 6 back in 2015 saying they had "some ideas" on where it was going to take the franchise next, and while 4 years have passed since then, no new details on GTA 6 have surfaced. One gamer is now dedicating a lot of time into driving around the map of GTA 5 until GTA 6 is released.

YouTuber 10HoursMovies has already smashed through around 885 laps in GTA 5 so far... but what if Rockstar doesn't release GTA 6 until after the next-gen Xbox Scarlett and PlayStation 5 consoles are released? We're looking at December 2020 for the PS5, so Rockstar could wait until 2021 for Grand Theft Auto 6... that's a lot of driving in GTA 5 between now and then.

Zelda: Breath of the Wild is fully playable in VR on the PC

| Oct 20, 2019 7:39 PM CDT

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is one of the best games I've ever played in my 30+ years as a gamer, even with its questionable performance on the Nintendo Switch. But on the PC? In 60FPS? And now in VR? OMG.

Zelda: Breath of the Wild is fully playable in VR on the PC

Yeah, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is now fully playable in the world of virtual reality on the PC and it seems to be quite the experience. BSoD Gaming has an extensive video with someone playing through Breath of the Wild in VR and seriously, it makes me want to play through it again in VR.

The team used an Intel Core i7-8700K, 16GB of RAM, and an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti to pull it off -- with far more than 60FPS average in Breath of the Wild in VR goodness. There will be fixes made along the way, but for now the experience is all that you want -- the world that Nintendo built in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild was already mind-blowingly gorgeous, and that is only amplified in VR by the looks of things.

Jedi Fallen Order has high FPS mode on PS4 Pro, Xbox One X

| Oct 20, 2019 4:53 PM CDT

Jedi: Fallen Order is optimized to push the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X to their limits.

Jedi Fallen Order has high FPS mode on PS4 Pro, Xbox One X

Respawn's new singleplayer-only Star Wars game will have to separate modes on PS4 Pro and Xbox One X: a mode that prioritizes resolution with upscaled 4K visuals at 30FPS, and a performance mode that hits 1080p 60FPS.

This is basically par for the course for current-gen games, and it's also likely Jedi: Fallen Order will hit close or even full native 3840x2160p on the Xbox One X. The PlayStation 4 Pro on the other hand will be upscaled 4K (likely from 1400p or thereabouts) due to its comparatively weaker hardware. Hopefully the game won't make the PS4 Pro sound like a jet about to take off.

Leaked PS5 devkit photo stylized in 3D renders

| Oct 20, 2019 12:40 PM CDT

A bit ago a leaked photo showed off the PlayStation 5 devkit's design, confirming the original V-shaped patent sketch was authentic. Now some digital renders capture the that design in 3D form.

Leaked PS5 devkit photo stylized in 3D renders

The renders come from LetsGoDigital and are stylized digital recreations of the actual physical PS5 development kit, complete with the manta ray color scheme, front-facing buttons and USB ports, and distinct ventilation.

The design is still pretty striking, but we shouldn't expect the final PlayStation 5 to look like this. Final consumer-facing products are almost always different than their respective devkits, except of course for the Xbox One X.

Rumor: Diablo II remastered on the way, reveal set for Blizzcon 2019

| Oct 20, 2019 3:14 AM CDT

Just as we advised, Blizzard is apparently going big at Blizzcon 2019, and Diablo will be a huge part of the show.

Rumor: Diablo II remastered on the way, reveal set for Blizzcon 2019

Blizzard plans to reveal two big Diablo games at Blizzcon 2019: A remastered version of the beloved Diablo II, possibly including the Lord of Destruction expansion with its runewords and extra Assassin and Druid classes, and the next mainline game in the series, Diablo IV.

The news comes from Overwatch streamer Metro, who attributes the info to inside sources at Blizzard. Metro's leaks were validated when they accurately predicted Ashe's reveal in Overwatch before Blizzcon 2018 aired, so the source appears to be genuine.

Xbox Game Pass continues boosting full game sales

| Oct 19, 2019 11:02 PM CDT

Gamers frequently buy outside the Xbox Game Pass lineup, making it hugely instrumental for Microsoft.

Xbox Game Pass continues boosting full game sales

Microsoft's $10 a month all-you-can-play Xbox Game Pass service is one of the most powerful forces in the industry. Not only does it make money from recurring subs every month, but it's actually leading to full game sales on Xbox LIVE. This phenomena was first highlighted by Phil Spencer, who confirmed Game Pass is sparking actual game purchases back in 2018.

Much to Microsoft's delight, Game Pass continues delivering. It's a kind of gateway to specific games that players wouldn't have tried otherwise, and when it turns out the games are good, players actually buy them outright to own them. Speaking at the GamesIndustry.biz Investment Summit, Xbox indie lead Agostino Simonetta said this trend of Game Pass inadvertently leading to game sales is continuing.

Unreal Engine 4 demo shows insane real-time storm effects

| Oct 19, 2019 8:07 PM CDT

This Unreal Engine 4 storm demo shows incredible storm effects that are possible on older GTX 900 series GPUs...imagine what next-gen consoles will deliver?

Unreal Engine 4 demo shows insane real-time storm effects

Blue12 studios game developer Koola just released an amazing UE4 demo that looks like something right out of next-gen. The footage was captured in real-time and shows intense hurricane-force winds, with quite realistic effects like shaking trees, destructive debris, lightning and ambient lighting effects, and tons of collisions and particle physics going on.

Interestingly enough, this demo was captured on an older NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 GPU, not an insanely powerful rig. It's actually not even optimized, so the demo could look even better with more horsepower and higher-end tweaks.

John Wick, Neo in Mortal Kombat 11? Ed Boon wants it to happen

| Oct 19, 2019 6:20 PM CDT

The murderous Baba Yaga or The One could show up in Mortal Kombat 11--at least that's what Ed Boon wants to see.

John Wick, Neo in Mortal Kombat 11? Ed Boon wants it to happen

Mortal Kombat 11's character roster has all kinds of crossovers: There's The Joker from Batman, the T-800, and even Spawn. Netherealm is far from finished expanding MK11's DLC characters...so what's next? Ed Boon teases Neo from the Matrix, John Wick, or even an epic crossover with the Street Fighter series.

At this year's Brasil Games Show, Ed Boon discussed who he'd like to see make the cut onto the Mortal Kombat 11 lineup.

The Outer Worlds PS4 Pro enhancements confirmed with 4K upscaling

| Oct 19, 2019 4:00 PM CDT

Contrary to reports, The Outer Worlds will get enhancements on the PlayStation 4 Pro too.

The Outer Worlds PS4 Pro enhancements confirmed with 4K upscaling

Private Division confirms The Outer Worlds will tap the PS4 Pro's extra horsepower with graphical optimizations. Obsidian's new spacefaring RPG will support upscaled 4K resolution on the PS4 Pro, and hits native 4K with 3840 x 2160 textures on Xbox One and PC. The Outer Worlds will instead hit a native 1400p on PS4 Pro. It was previously reported the game would only be optimized on Xbox One X.

"The Outer Worlds is enhanced for both Xbox One X and PS4 Pro. It includes 4K textures and resolution on Xbox One X and PC, and upsamples to 4K from 1440p on PS4 Pro. It looks great across all platforms," the publishing label said on Twitter.

The first real photo of a PlayStation 5 dev kit appears

| Oct 19, 2019 2:58 AM CDT

We're finally here -- the first real photo of Sony's next-gen PlayStation 5 development kit. Our good friends at LetsGoDigital have been all over the 3D renders of the PS5, but now this is the real deal.

The first real photo of a PlayStation 5 dev kit appears

The first real image of the PS5 development kit shows that the renders I have been reporting on have been indeed real, showing that awesome V-shaped design that doesn't just look good, but it should also be much better for keeping the high-end internals cool.

You can see this is "Prototype 1" and is "Not For Sale" (can you imagine how much this thing would go for on eBay?) and it has the On/Standby, Reset, Eject, System Init, and Network Init buttons on the front. Don't expect the System Init and Network Init buttons on your PS5 when it launches in December 2020, however.

Need for Speed Heat's new 4K trailer shows off DULL, LIFELESS world

| Oct 18, 2019 11:37 PM CDT

EA is injecting some much-needed hype into Need for Speed Heat ahead of its November 8 release... but man, these trailers do not do anything for the game. Both IGN and VG247 have new Need for Speed Heat 4K gameplay videos that you can check out below.

Need for Speed Heat's new 4K trailer shows off DULL, LIFELESS world

I've watched both of the videos (IGN's goes for 13 minutes while VG247 has slightly less at 10 minutes) and boy is the world of Need for Speed Heat lifeless. There are barely any other cars on the road, no peoiple walking around -- it is just dull, and lifeless. It doesn't look that bad, with the graphics looking actually quite good -- but the world is dead.

I think one of the comments on YouTube summed up Need for Speed Heat perfectly: "EA probably locked away traffic behind micro transactions".

2019's best-selling game? That would be NBA 2K20

| Oct 18, 2019 10:51 PM CDT

You wouldn't think that NBA 2K20 was the best-selling game of 2019 so far, but it is according to the latest North American sales data from the NPD Group.

2019's best-selling game? That would be NBA 2K20

The sales data shows that in September 2019 the best-selling game was NBA 2K20, which is also the best-selling game of the year so far. Joining the list of best-selling games in the United States for September 2019 is Borderlands 3 and FIFA 20 in second and third, respectively, while The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening and Madden NFL 20 take fourth and fifth place, respectively.

Another interesting thing to note are hardware sales, with the Nintendo Switch taking out the #1 position while Xbox One and PS4 sales are continuing to dwingle. Hardware sales are down 22% overall, a trend that is only going to continue as we move into 2020 with the next-gen Xbox Scarlett and PlayStation 5 consoles.

Huge protest pushing 'full-steam ahead' at BlizzCon 2019

| Oct 18, 2019 10:15 PM CDT

Remember when I said if things couldn't get worse for Blizzard? Remember when I said Activision-Blizzard could (and probably would) pull the plug on BlizzCon 2019 given all this China controversy? Activision-Blizzard already cancelled the Overwatch for Nintendo Switch launch event in NYC, but what about BlizzCon 2019?

Huge protest pushing 'full-steam ahead' at BlizzCon 2019

Well, to add fuel to that big huge fire -- a huge protest is being planned for BlizzCon 2019 with protest organizer Dayton Young telling GameSpot that Activision-Blizzard's reduction of the penalty against pro-Hearthstone player 'Blitzchung' and restoring his prize money for dare speaking out against China was "a small step in the right direction"... but it's not good enough.

Young said: "That Blizzard has shown a willingness to re-evaluate their decision is a small step in the right direction, but make no mistake; Blizzard continues to punish these individuals despite widespread outrage from gamers around the world. We understand that game publishers and developers have a responsibility to moderate the content that appears on their platforms to ensure that gamers are safe from harassment, threats of violence, and other dangerous behavior. But silencing gamers who speak up about issues that affect their freedom makes us all less safe from oppression and institutional abuse".

Check out the new 5K 60FPS trailer for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare

| Oct 18, 2019 9:36 PM CDT

The return of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare this year is going to be absolutely huge, with Activision and Infinity Ward making the game a real treat for PC gamers in countless ways. Another one of those is the new trailer, which is available in both 4K and get this -- even 5K. Check it out:

Check out the new 5K 60FPS trailer for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare

The new trailer is also in UltraWide goodness but the 5K trailer with a resolution of 5120 x 2880 is a surprise, as I saw other headlines for 4K until I checked it out myself. I confirmed the trailer is at 5K and a glorious 60FPS, all resolutions: 720p, 1080p, 1440p, 4K, and 5K offered at 60FPS.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare's biggest draw card is that it has ray tracing abilities, a huge boon for NVIDIA and GeForce RTX graphics card owners. Not only that, but Acitvision and developer Infinity Ward & Beenox have built-in a bunch of customization options for PC gamers, too.

Overwatch 2 rumors: No new heroes, PVE and PVP play, cross-play

| Oct 18, 2019 4:12 PM CDT

Overwatch 2 will be revealed at Blizzcon 2019, sources say, and it could be a mixture between a sequel and a major expansion.

Overwatch 2 rumors: No new heroes, PVE and PVP play, cross-play

Blizzard has been working on Overwatch 2 for some time, and now an Overwatch streamer has some details on the sequel. Overwatch 2 will apparently feature a leveling system that fundamentally changes how heroes work, possibly with stats. This new progression scheme compliments Overwatch 2's PVE elements, which will be added in alongside PVP. There's also the possibility of PvEvP antics like Destiny 2's Gambit mode.

No new heroes will be added though. Instead, Overwatch 2 will have the same roster, just with new content. It appears Blizzard is changing how you play, not who you play as. Overwatch 2 might be more of a big overhaul of the existing game that's sold as a new SKU. It might not be an expansion, but not exactly a sequel either--it could sit in between. Cross-play between PC and consoles is also very likely, especially given Activision-Blizzard's restructured business focus on "new engagement models."
