NVIDIA has had quite a bumpy ride since the release of its new Turing GPU architecture that split across teh Quadro RTX and GeForce RTX families of graphics cards, but today the company reported its Q4 2018 results and fell $500 million short of its previous guidance.

The company previously expected $2.7 billion in revenue but managed only $2.2 billion in revenues instead, with both gaming and datacenter revenue below NVIDIA's expectations, with NVIDIA promising to better detail its financial results during an earnings call on February 14. In a press release by NVIDIA, the company explained: "In addition, sales of certain high-end GPUs using NVIDIA's new Turing™ architecture were lower than expected".

NVIDIA founder and CEO Jen-Hsun Huang explained that the GeForce RTX 2080 and RTX 2080 Ti "deliver a revolutionary leap in performance and innovation with real-time raytracing and AI, but some customers may have delayed their purchase while waiting for lower price points and further demonstrations of RTX technology in actual games". Huang also talked about "economic uncertainties" as well as a "number of deals [that] did not close in the last month of the quarter".

AMD is just a week away from the release of its Radeon VII with our sample not far away, early benchmarks have leaked teasing purported 3DMark results with the 4K run of Fire Strike Ultra and DX12-powered Time Spy benchmarks. I've inserted the 3DMark Fire Strike Ultra into one of my benchmark charts so you can see where the performance of Radeon VII will fall in.

By the leaked benchmarks that Twitter user TUM_APISAK posted from the 3DMark database, we can see the Radeon VII beating NVIDIA's now two-year-old GeForce GTX 1080 Ti and newly-released GeForce RTX 2080 but it loses to both the TITAN Xp and GeForce RTX 2080 Ti graphics cards. This is just the 4K run of the DX11-based Fire Strike Ultra benchmark, with some different results in the DX12 run of Time Spy.

Things get interesting in the Time Spy leaked benchmark result as the new Radeon VII loses to both the GeForce GTX 1080 Ti and GeForce RTX 2080, which it just beat in the leaked Fire Strike Ultra results. In this benchmark we have scores of:

The world of foldable smartphones will begin this year in a battle between Samsung and Huawei but the real champion would be Microsoft if it were able to strike lightning with the release of a Surface Phone that looks like this:

These photos are courtesy of LegsGoDigital that found a patent filed in 2017 by Intel that shows a phone-like device (a large phone, small tablet, or something new) that folds out into a large tablet, or more importantly, a PC. The single device would start off small and chunky, but would later fold out into a phone that is twice as wide (where you could have another app, chat app, calculator, live stats, etc) or into a larger almost 3-screen phone or tablet.

You can see here that some of the designs would be slick, especially if the bottom display that is touching the ground was disabled and so too the back display - it would be a built-in kickstand for your phone. I think we'd definitely need some super scratch resistant screens at that point, though.

SK Hynix research fellow Kim Dong-Kyun has said that the DDR5 memory standard could hit the P{C next year, where it will kick things off at a huge DDR5-5200 offering twice the bandwidth of DDR4-2666.

Last year SK Hynix developed a working prototype of a 16-gigabit (2GB) DDR5 DRAM chip that reached 5200 MT/s with just 1.1V. Kim explained: "We are discussing several concepts of the post DDR5. One concept is to maintain the current trend of speeding up the data transmission, and another is to combine the DRAM technology with system-on-chip process technologies, such as CPU".

The company is working on its own innovations that will continue to make DDR5 dazzle, developing technologies that will hopefully beat its competition which is also making DDR5 memory. Kim teased: "We have developed a multi-phase synchronization technology that enables keeping the voltage during a high-speed operation in a chip at a low level by placing multiple phases within the IP circuit, so the power used on each phase is low but the speed is high when combined".

Sony's next-gen PlayStation 5 hardware is on the way, and first-party studios have access to devkits for the new console.

According to Niko Partners analyst Daniel Ahmad, Sony has shipped out PS5 development kits to help power new first-party games. Sony has yet to announce anything concrete, but this move isn't actually surprising as developers play a critical role to any system's development.

As for hardware specifics, sources told TweakTown the PS5 is powered by a discrete GPU instead of an combined APU with shared CPU and graphics. The system may also leverage an 8-core Zen 2 CPU from AMD with Navi graphics technology. Despite this hardware jump, the system is likely to play all existing PS4 games and be backwards compatible with last-gen titles.

EA reverses its stance and complies with Belgian gambling laws, removing FIFA Points from its games in the region.

Today EA announced that FIFA Points, the premium currency bought with real money to unlock Ultimate Team packs, will no longer be sold in Belgium. The move concludes the surprising battle between the billion-dollar publisher and the Belgian government over lootbox legality. EA now joins other games-makers like Blizzard, Valve, and 2K Games who turned off lootbox monetization in key titles like Overwatch, and Counter-Strike, and NBA 2K.

"After further discussions with the Belgian authorities, we have decided to stop offering FIFA Points for sale in Belgium. This means that players in Belgium will not be able to purchase points to obtain FIFA Ultimate Team packs. We're working to make these changes effective in our FIFA console and PC games by January 31, 2019," EA wrote in a statement.

GameStop's board of directors no longer plans to sell the company to a third-party, the games retailer today announced.

The future of GameStop remains uncertain. Sales were down slightly by 5% during the holiday season and the company is actively searching for ways to offset its $800 million debt and losses. Pressure is mounting as digital gaming puts a dent in resale and trade-ins, which is a trend that pleases publishers. Without a CEO, the retailer is essentially operating the current industry landscape without a head. GameStop's board bought some time by selling its Spring Mobile business for over $70 million, but there's no other pieces to sell, only the whole pie.

Now GameStop's board announced it won't be selling the company because favorable terms couldn't be reached. The news caused company shares to plummet by over 27% to $11.28 per share, the lowest it's been since 2005.

Chinese mobile juggernaut NetEase has partnered with Quantic Dream to make next-gen games on multiple platforms.

For years Quantic Dream's games (Heavy Rain, Detroit: Become Human, etc) have been exclusive to PlayStation. But the studio has always had a bigger vision that expands into all platforms, not just Sony's hardware, and that's why it signed a partnership deal with NetEase. Studio head David Cage confirms NetEase bought a minority stake in Quantic Dream, giving the devs a long-term investment to help make new games on all systems. This deal is similar to NetEase's $100 million investment into Bungie's new "bold vision."

"We're very excited to report that NetEase has taken a minority share in the capital of Quantic Dream," Cage said in a recent interview with VentureBeat. "This investment will allow us to invest in future technologies and games in order to prepare for the next generation of platforms, with the same ambition regarding creativity and innovation."

Resident Evil 2 Remake has shipped 3 million copies worldwide on all platforms, Capcom today announced.

Capcom's new Resident Evil game isn't just the best horror title I've played, but it's among the best remakes ever made. The games-maker put considerable efforts to open a new dimension of horror with tons of tweaks, optimizations, graphical overhauls with the new REngine, and new spatial sound. Now everything is paying off big time with strong shipments and sales.

Resident Evil 2 Remake has shipped 3 million units in its first week of availability, Capcom says, bringing to over half of the original 1998's total sales. In fact, RE2make may be on track to beat Resident Evil 7's current 6 million lifetime sales. The company says it hopes to elongate the remake's lifecycle with long-term sales. To do so Capcom will use the free Ghost Survivors story DLC to help engage players over a greater period of time, and we could see other bonus paid content similar to RE7's post-launch roadmap.

Yesterday Bandai announced a new Dragon Ball game to fall under the action-RPG genre, the announcement revealed the placeholder name 'Project Z' and now further details have been released for the title.

In a recent press release from Bandai Namco, we get some more details about what to expect for the coming action-RPG Dragon Ball title. 'Project Z' will be taking players on "the most dramatic and epic telling of the Dragon Ball Z story", with this now new information we can assume that players will be able to play missions from the following saga'; Raditz and Vegeta Sagas, Namek and Captain Ginyu Sagas, Frieza Saga, Garlic Jr., Trunks, and Androids Sagas, Imperfect Cell and Perfect Cell Sagas, Cell Games Saga, Other World, Great Saiyaman. and World Tournament Sagas, Babidi and Majin Buu Sagas and Fusion, Kid Buu, and Peaceful World Sagas.

It will be very interesting to see if Bandai decide to cover every story arc throughout each of the Dragon Ball Z sagas, as I'm very sure many Dragon Ball fans would love to start right at the beginning and work their way through all the way to the end. Eric Hartness, Vice President of Marketing at Bandai Namco Entertainment America said "Combining the fabled story of DRAGON BALL Z with a proven video game development studio is a surefire way to create an awesome DRAGON BALL adventure. We can't wait to unveil the official name for the game and share more gameplay details with players!"

Yesterday Bandai teased that Dragon Ball FighterZ would be receiving some news, they also mentioned that the "fighter from Universe 11 is joining the fight". A new trailer has confirmed what was expected, and also comes with some well met surprises.

The above video was released onto the Bandai Namco America YouTube Channel and begins with the official reveal of the "fighter from Universe 11" - Jiren. As I mentioned yesterday, we see a display of moves from Jiren resembling that of what he does in TV show. Next, we are introduced to Gohan's wife Videl, we see a variety of combos from Videl before she calls on the assistance of Gohan.

Closer to the end of the video, Bandai tease fans further by showcasing that four more fighters are yet to be revealed. Two of these fighters are named to be "Broly (DBS)" and "Gogeta (SSGSS)". No gameplay was shown for each of these characters, just an image saying that they have joined the fight. The new fighters pass headed for Dragon Ball FighterZ will release on January 31st. Dragon ball FighterZ is available on the Xbox One, PS4, PC and Nintendo Switch.

After the tease of Fantastic Four content coming to Marvel's Spider-Man, we now have some brand new 'Fantastic Four' themed suits for players to enjoy.

The news comes from the official Spider-Man Twitter page for the game, above we can see images of the "Bombastic Bag Man Suit" and the "Future Foundation Suit". If players are unsure of where the reference to the Fantastic Four is within both of these suits, Spider-Man writer Christos Gage gave a explanation; "There have been too many cool Spidey/Fantastic Four moments to count, but one of the most memorable was in Amazing Spider-Man #258, when Spidey swung by the Fantastic Four's headquarters for help with the alien symbiote he was wearing as a costume. The Fantastic Four got it off, but then Spidey was left in his underpants, so he borrowed a Fantastic Four costume...but they don't have masks!"

He continued; "So, to conceal Peter Parker's secret identity, his frenemy, the Human Torch, gave Spidey a grocery bag to wear on his head. As The Thing might say, what a revoltin' development! Another chapter in their shared story came when Spidey actually joined the Fantastic Four, then calling themselves the Future Foundation, and they all wore cool black and white costumes." It is no doubt a shame that the teased Fantastic Four content wasn't a playable story of some kind, regardless though these are some very cool looking suits I'm sure web-head players will enjoy. Capcom have no doubt staggered everyone with the release of the remade Resident Evil 2, the game has been so well received by the community that fans now want more, but which game in series will be getting the magic touch from Capcom? The fans decide.

Capcom's Resident Evil 2 producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi spoke to Japanese website 'Game Watch' and was asked about the future of the Resident Evil franchise. It was revealed that Capcom begun the remaking of Resident Evil 2 by popular fan request, and this same principal can now be taken for any title within the series. Hirabayashi said that if fans want Resident Evil 3 or any of the Resident Evil titles remade with a modern Capcom touch, then all they have to is ask and make their voices well-known to Capcom.

It is very awesome to see a game developer as big as Capcom really listen to their audience, and give the fans of the Resident Evil franchise not only exactly what they wanted, but also give them the option for choosing what is coming next. Props to Capcom for this achievement in not only great game development for the remake of Resident Evil 2, but also for listening to the fans of the franchise and giving them the option of choosing which title will be in the pipeline next.

Just last week Netflix debuted a new documentary series on the anniversary of the famous serial killer Ted Bundy. The series is a short four-part documentary titled 'Conversations with a Killer: The Ted Bundy Tapes' and since its release its had quite a strange audience response, so strange that Netflix themselves had to step in.

Director Joe Berlinger debuted the documentary and then two days later released a biopic movie of Bundy, the movie starred actor Zac Efron and was titled Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil, and Vile. With two new pieces of Bundy content released to the world, the topic of Bundy's appearance - for some reason - became a huge area of discussion. Doing my own research, I searched on Twitter "Ted Bundy is hot", to my amazement I came across numerous people claiming that the appearance of Ted Bundy was attractive despite his recorded 30 murders, kidnappings and rapes.

It is unclear whether people are just saying these things to cause controversy on their Twitter accounts, as everyone knows its much easier to get a negative reaction out of someone than a positive one. Internet trolls will go to any length to anger the masses, or some people are actually genuine in finding Ted Bundy attractive. It is almost impossible to separate the two due to how outlandish the topic is. Either way, Netflix stepped into the situation with their official Twitter account saying "I've seen a lot of talk about Ted Bundy's alleged hotness and would like to gently remind everyone that there are literally THOUSANDS of hot men on the service - almost all of whom are not convicted serial murderers".

Capcom plans to expand Resident Evil 2: Remake's storyline with a series of free episodic DLC updates that kick off next month.

Resident Evil 2: Remake is the scariest game I've ever played. Capcom have proven they're the undisputed masters of horror with RE2make--everything about the game has this gritty nightmarish feel, this dream-like quality that seems real but also unreal, an encapsulating dread that's only amplified by the dire struggle and visceral death around you. As I play, I often wonder about the people who didn't make it. What were their lives like, what's their story? Now Capcom plans to flesh out its zombie remake with answers to those questions.

The Remake is getting a three-part series of free DLC called Ghost Survivors, which is a new mode that blends story with survival.

Tech titan Apple has begun early plans for a game streaming subscription service, sources tell Cheddar.

Like its competitors Google, Amazon, Microsoft, and Verizon who are all working on cloud game streaming services, Apple is eager to bite off the new digital frontier of "Netflix for games" market. Five sources familiar with the matter say Apple started planning the service in 2018, which corresponds with the company's need to shift away from hardware to a more digital service-based approach.

There's a few ways this could manifest and dramatically change the industry. It's likely that Apple's streaming service, which will include a pool of games streamed remotely to iDevices for a monthly fee, will be a mix of all types of games. But they should be premium paid experiences--free-to-play games shouldn't show up. We're thinking AAA, AA, and indie games will show up on the service. Sources say Apple may become a publisher and partner up with key developers, which is an incredibly ambitious move. Armed with Apple's might, devs could make some pretty immersive experiences across iPhones, iPads, and Macs and maybe even tap AR/VR tech to boot. The downside is this could further spread an already-fragmented industry.

Metro Exodus will be sold exclusively on the newly launched Epic Store when it releases this February, Deep Silver today announced.

Although the Steam competitor's storefront just launched, Epic Games has wasted no time snapping up timed exclusivity deals with major games-makers. First they snapped up a deal with The Division 2 thanks to the Epic Store's attractive 88% - 12% revenue split, and now the next big Metro game makes the jump. Metro Exodus will be exclusively sold on the Epic Store on PC until 2020, and the game will be pulled from the Steam storefront later today.

Anyone who pre-orders on Steam will still be able to play it there and will still get access to Metro Exodus' upcoming expansions, bonus content, and season pass upgrades on Steam.

BioWare put a nifty little old-school throwback in their big new shooter Anthem.

Anthem's VIP Demo was marred with technical hiccups and connection issues. There was also some performance hitches on all systems including PC, which saw FPS drops interrupting play. But the demo did have a neat addition that only wizened gamers would find: a Konami Code Easter egg.

Putting in the Konami code (Up Up Left Right Left Right Down Down B A) on Anthem's startup screen essentially transformed the game's music into an NES classic. The code unlocked an altered chiptune version of the main theme song, wistfully transporting us to a time where Nintendo ruled the world (it still kind of does) and your neighborhood Blockbuster avidly said Be Kind Rewind. The music is pretty damn good by default, so the bit-style rendition adds even more splendor its strange otherworldly tones.

A talented gamer uses Far Cry 5's flexible map-making tools to recreate Tattooine's dual suns and burning deserts.

Everyone remembers Tattooine. The dual suns, the dusty barren landscape, those strange moisture farming antennae reaching to the sky like strange alien relics, and the interesting domes of Lars Homestead. Now the talented duncsmaps has captured Tattooine's most famous scene using Far Cry 5's map editor, showing some serious skills in the time-lapse video below.

The map itself was made on PS4 and took about 3 hours to craft (I'd probably spend a week or so obsessively plotting every single piece). I absolutely love when specific scenes are captured perfectly using game-making tools. Far Cry 5's map editor is a kind of canvas for your imagination and many modders, map-makers, and gamers are using it to build some pretty amazing things.

During the Dragon Ball FighterZ World Tour Finals, Bandai Namco showcased to fans a new coming Dragon Ball action-RPG game. The game has been titled "Draon Ball Game: Project Z".

The new Dragon Ball title revolves around the main character Goku and the numerous encounters he has with saving the people of earth. Throughout the trailer we see iconic scenes from the Saiyan and Frieza saga, but we are not shown how much of Goku's story we are going to be able to play. Will Project Z include missions from the Maijan Buu saga? Or the Dragon Ball Super series? At this time it is unknown whether or not the later foes Goku encounters during his life will be playable fights either through DLC or main story missions. All that we have to go off of is the fact that the game has been titled "Project Z" which suggests that the game is purely based around the events of Dragon Ball Z.

On the fighting note, the trailer shows no gameplay fighting at all, so we don't know what angle Bandai and developer CyberConnect2 will be taking with this title. Personally, I hope that the development studio takes notes from Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi as that was and still is my favorite Dragon Ball game. Dragon Ball: Project Z has no official release date as of yet, only a placeholder of "2019", but I will be sure to update you further once more details are released.
