Dragon Ball Z Kakarot action RPG launches January 2020
Ready to relive those classic DBZ glory days? Bandai Namco's new Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot game transforms the entire series arc into an interactive gaming experience.
DBZ: Kakarot's January 2020 release was confirmed at this year's Tokyo Game Show 2019, complete with the addition of the Buu saga. As it stands, the action-RPG includes every Dragon Ball Z storyline including the Saiyan, Frieza, Android, Cell, and finally Majin Buu sagas, complete with the goofy spin-offs like the Ginyu Force. We could see more playable characters and scenarios added in as post-launch DLC (Bandai loves season passes as of late).
Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is described as the ultimate re-telling of Goku's epic journey across impossible hardships, and stays 100% authentic to the legendary anime. It's not like DB FighterZ, but more like an expanded Xenoverse that follows the original arcs. Every area will have open-ended setpieces for the massive confrontations, from the destruction of Namek to the widespread desolation from Majin Buu's multiple form battles.

$499 Vive VR headset is being phased out
The 2016 launch Vive headset will soon be much harder to buy throughout the rest of 2019, and will eventually be discontinued, HTC confirms.
Now that there's a galaxy of new Vive headsets like the Vive Focus, Vive Cosmos, and Vive Pro, HTC will soon retire the original launch Vive. The new modular $699 Vive Cosmos aims to replace the 2016 Vive with inside-out tracking, reduced cords, and the ability to attach various mods like wireless receivers.
"We felt like it's time to start bringing in a new replacement for the Vive CE. That product is going to start coming out of the market very shortly. By the end of the quarter it's going to start becoming very scarce in channel," HTC VR general manager Dan O'Brien told UploadVR.

MIT's special 'reprogrammable' ink could personalize cars INSTANTLY
Imagine a future where you buy a car in no particular color, and then customize it instantly -- in real-time from your phone or a button in the car, to change the entire color scheme both inside and outside.
MIT is working on just that with researchers out of the Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL) developing a reprogrammable ink that has been called PhotoChromeleon, for obvious reasons. It has a chameleon-like ability to change color, and does so using an specially-created ink.
This ink is sprayed onto something and then each color can be tweaked by activating and deactivating specific light sources. The team explains: "For example, if you use a blue light, it would mostly be absorbed by the yellow dye and be deactivated, and magenta and cyan would remain, resulting in blue. If you use a green light, magenta would mostly absorb it and be deactivated, and then both yellow and cyan would remain, resulting in green".

Here's a list of all the games the ASUS ROG Phone II can run at 120FPS
ASUS announced its new ROG Phone II and then succeeded it before it was in gamers' hands with the even-better ROG Phone II Ultimate Edition... both with 120Hz displays. But what games can you run at 120FPS on it?
The list is continuously expanding, and as I went to get a final list for this from the ASUS forums -- an update on September 12 added a few new games. These new games include DOTA Underlords (can do 60-120FPS), The Wolf Among Us, Bomb Squad, Smashing Rush, Brawl Stars (around 90FPS) and even Google Earth now supports 120FPS.
ASUS does note that you might require "a change in the game settings" in order to enable higher FPS. ASUS is also asking anyone that finds a game that works at 120FPS to let them know, and they'll add it to the ever-growing list of 120FPS-capable games that will make full use of the ROG Phone II.

LG's huge 88-inch 8K OLED TV available now in the US for $30,000
LG has announced its larger-than-life (and most wallets) 88-inch 8K OLED and 75-inch 8K LED smart TVs are available in some US retailers priced at $29,999 and $4999, respectively.
The flagship OLED88Z9 is the largest OLED TV ever made coming in at a huge 88 inches, perfect for that 8K resolution -- it's a far cry from the smaller 75-inch 8K NanoCell TV, but those 13 inches are going to cost you another $25K. Remember the 88-inch is also a beautiful OLED panel while the 75-inch model is 'just' LED.
LG is reinforcing that it has a "true 8K" TV in that it has worked with the International Committee for Display Metrology (ICDM) to make sure its 8K TVs meet their strict minimum standards. I went into detail on that here, but a TL;DR version is that LG has a "true 8K" TV and its competitors do not.

J.J. Abrams signs huge $250 million deal with WarnerMedia
J.J. Abrams has just signed a huge deal with his production company Bad Robot Productions and WarnerMedia, in a deal reportedly worth $250 million according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Bad Robot Productions will made original series and movies for WarnerMedia and its divisions, something that will include HBO and Warner Bros. Pictures. All I'm hearing right now is "WB announces Man of Steel 2: Metallo directed by J.J. Abrams" -- please?
The new $250M deal will run through to 2024 and will include video games, digital content, original TV shows and movies for WarnerMedia. The deal won't stop Bad Robot from making content to sell to third-party companies, something that Abrams reportedly said was of the "utmost importance" reports THR.

Death Stranding has a hoverboard, and it looks like tons of fun
Death Stranding is a huge open world game with tons of iconic geography to explore. Luckily Sam has an improvised hoverboard to zoom around on.
Today Hideo Kojima revealed tons of new info and details about Death Stranding. We got a huge one hour gameplay demo that illustrates stealth, action RPG aspects, tons of exploration, and some nifty surprises like a motorbike, enemy vehicle hijacking, and even a levitating hoverboard.
In Death Stranding, Sam has a little floating platform that follows behind him and hauls cargo. You can remove all the boxes off the platform and use it as a makeshift hoverboard, and Sam even does little push-offs straight out of Back to the Future Part II. I wonder if it works on water? Probably not...unless you've got power.

Nintendo's weird fitness RPG pits you up against a bodybuilding dragon
Nintendo's new Switch Fit peripheral is called the RingCon, and it comes with a game that turns exercise into an RPG.
Nintendo just made fitness into a fully-fledged RPG using a common pilates ring as a controller. The game is called Ring Fit Adventure, and it's all about beating a muscular bodybuilding dragon at his own game (yes, really).
JoyCons slot into the specially modified pilates ring (officially called the RingCon) and a leg strap for force feedback, accelerometer and gyroscopic tracking to record your movements. The gimmick is you'll use real-life exercises to do actions in the game world. To run in the game, you'll need to run in place. To climb steps, you'll have to do some knee-lifts. To paddle a canoe boat, you'll do some ab twists. Fire a bow by pulling the ring apart, and put up your defenses by tightening up your abs.

HTC Cosmos modular VR headset costs $699, coming October 3
HTC's new Vive Cosmos headset will cost $699, putting it between the self-contained Vive Focus at $599 and the premium Vive Pro at $799.
The new Vive Cosmos VR HMD is built around ease-of-use and accessibility, and brings spec performance boosts over original Vive headset. The Cosmos has two 3.4-inch panels at 1440x1700 pixels per eye for a combined 2880x1700p or about 88% more pixels than the base Vive, complete with a 90Hz refresh rate and a 110-degree field of view.
The major difference is the Cosmos doesn't require base stations for movement tracking. It's outfitted with six cameras for inside-out tracking, making setting up a breeze. The Cosmos is also modular. HTC teased smartphone interactivity when the Cosmos was first announced, but the only mod that's official is an external tracking mod that allows you to use old Vive tracking base stations for improved immersion.

Death Stranding is a futuristic high-tech fever dream
Death Stranding looks like a high-tech fever dream and an evolution of everything Kojima has made up until now.
Hideo Kojima recently showed off an hour of new Death Stranding gameplay at Tokyo Game Show 2019, revealing intricate details behind his new action-based immersive sim. There's a distinct cinematic feel to the entire experience, complete with an otherworldly sci-fantasy visual flair that transcends most sci-fi today. The world is colorful, vibrant, almost dream-like, and the on-screen HUD markers are straight out of a Cyberpunk game.
But mechanically, Death Stranding is basically an action RPG that borrows from Metal Gear.

Anthem is now free on EA and Origin Access
Anthem is now playable for free as part of EA and Origin Access subscriptions, signifying the game's life-cycle is winding down.
BioWare's failed new live service IP Anthem isn't a year old yet, but it's already being added to EA's subscription vault. The publisher usually moves its online games to the vault for a number of reasons, including age and engagement opportunities. If a game gets too old and isn't selling that well on the market it's typically moved to the Origin Access vault for easier access. The idea is to provide a way to play the game without buying it, and potentially hook gamers into the engagement-monetization ecosystem EA knows and loves.
But Anthem's retiring to the vault may not actually work the way EA intends it to. The game was a commercial success insofar as sales, but recurring revenues dried up like a prune following the terrible live-based experience.

Fallout 76 gets more non-cosmetic microtransactions
Fallout 76 now has even more microtransactions that have a tangible effect on gameplay, breaking Bethesda's original promise.
Despite Bethesda's original assurances, Fallout 76 hasn't had cosmetic-only monetization for a while now. In fact, it never actually did (Bethesda sold generators in the Atomic Shop at launch). Months after launch, the studio pretends it never made any sort of promises.
And of course they're selling stuff in the Atomic Shop that actually gives you an upper edge. Bethesda now shamelessly added new purchasable goods to its Utility Items section, which is literally pay-to-win based. First Fallout 76 sold repair kits that instantly fixed items, removing the tedium of gathering mats or scrapping.

Intel will have 3D athlete tracking tech at 2020 Olympics
Intel has announced that it will be using its new 3D athlete tracking (3DAT) technology during the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, with the system featuring 4 cameras that will record athletes in the 100m and other sprinting events.
During the race an algorithm will analyze the bio mechanics of the athletes' movements, and then display visual overlays during replays. The new 3DAT technology is a first-of-its-kind of technology that combines AI to take viewers to the next level with real-time insights and visual overlays of athletic events.
Intel will be hosting the 3DAT-captured data on Alibaba's cloud infrastructure (powered by Intel) and will team with the Olympic Broadcast Services (OBS). The system uses "four pan-tilt mounted, highly mobile cameras to capture the form and motion of athletes, then apply pose estimation algorithms, optimized for Intel Xeon processors, to analyze the biomechanics of athletes' movements".

Palmer Luckey's defense company Anduril already valued at $1 billion
Palmer Luckey rode into the technology world like a tornado, pioneering VR with the Oculus Rift -- having his company acquired by Facebook for $2 billion, then off into the (real) sunset. Now his new company, Anduril Industries, is valued at $1 billion thanks to a new fundraising round.
Back in mid-2017 he founded his new company Anduril, which uses lidar technology that powers self-driving cars -- with cameras and infrared systems as well as AI as a virtual wall. Anduril is working with the US government, and has plans of monitoring the battlefields of the future with what should amount to much less loss of human life.
Anduril has had a new fundraising round where the company is reportedly now valued at $1 billion, with venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz signing a big cheque according to anonymous sources of CNBC.

ASRock's new X570 Aqua motherboard is liquid-cooled work of art
ASRock has one of the highest-end motherboards its ever made about to launch, with its new X570 Aqua motherboard powered by AMD's new X570 chipset and ready for the Ryzen 3000 series CPUs.
The new ASRock X570 Aqua is "completely water cooled" apart from its DIMM slots, PCIe slots and a few other places on the board exposed. The company says the custom water block it has made is "skillfully designed to ensure the heat of the CPU, VRM, and chipset can be dissipated efficiently".
We have PCIe 4.0 connectivity courtesy of the X570 chipset, as well as a 14-phase power design that should allow for some great overclocking on the CPU. ASRock also includes 10GbE network connectivity, Wi-Fi 6, and Thunderbolt 3.

Netflix just leaked The Witcher TV show release for December 17
One of the most anticipated TV shows of 2019 would have to be The Witcher series on Netflix, and thanks to Netflix itself -- we should expect Henry Cavill's next big adventure on December 17.
The official Twitter account for Netflix and Facebook posted a new list of titles and how many sleeps there is until their respective releases, with The Witcher coming in 97 sleeps. There are 97 sleeps between when it was posted -- September 11, and December 17. Math, ya know.
Netflix's own posts on both Twitter and Facebook have been removed, so we're only going by some screenshots that some very quick users snapped. December 17 can't come soon enough!

KFC teams with Rainbow Six Siege for new KFC-themed event?!
KFC isn't just working on its own dating simulator called 'I Love You, Colonel Sanders! A Finger Licking Good Dating Simulator' but it's also about to unleash the chicken master into Rainbow Six Siege.
The official KFC Gaming Twitter account teases an announcement for September 23, promising "cash and chicken to be won". We don't know to expect exactly, but it seems KFC is spreading its wings into dating simulators for the Colonel and now a collaboration with Ubisoft and Rainbow Six Siege -- which has just hit 50 million players, by the way.
All I know is I want to play some games now and bite into some Kentucky Fried Chicken... maybe KFC's new marketing is working, because I definitely could go for some gaming+chicken goodness right now.
