Crimson Desert's first expansion lets you swim with sharks, fight robot whales, and customize your castle

Pearl Abyss has revealed Crimson Desert's first expansion at Sony's State of Play event, confirming a bunch of new changes coming to the game including romance options, town/building customization, and some tropical naval exploration right out of Black Flag Resynced.

Crimson Desert's debut expansion Charting the Unknown will flesh out the all-in-one action game with a bevy of new features. Crimson Desert itself feels like a gestalt of many genres, games, and influences, Charting the Unknown likewise channels games like The Sims with custom city planning, and even the sailing and diving from Assassin's Creed Black Flag. It even has an underwater jetpack that lets players zoom around, adding a new dimension of traversal.

The trailer also mentions an abyssal horror, ending with a brief look at the colossal robot that players may end up fighting. Other enemies include a robo-Cetacean that tries to inhale Kliff into its mouth, with our hero struggling against the pull Whalefall-style.

The sim-related additions include what looks to be a pretty robust castle building mechanic, complete with wall settings, decorations, and even shopkeeps and cooks.

Charting the Unknown releases October 15, 2026 for consoles and PC. The Switch version of Crimson Desert is still set for 2027, and it seems likely that this expansion will also release on that platform as well. Check below for more info:
