Crysis remaster teased again, perfect on PlayStation 5, Xbox Scarlett?

Anthony Garreffa | Gaming | Nov 1, 2019 12:09 AM CDT

It was only a few months ago that Crytek unveiled their CRYENGINE 5.6 Tech Trailer video which I've got embedded below. Check it out to refresh your memory before we dive into what could actually be very, very exciting.

Crysis remaster teased again, perfect on PlayStation 5, Xbox Scarlett?

At the end of the CRYENGINE 5.6 Tech Trailer video there are a bunch of shots from an island very similar to the one you first drop into in Crysis. It even featured parts of the original Crysis soundtrack, stirring rumors of a remake... well... about that. EA is now talking about remaking a bunch of its classic games.

During EA's recent earnings call, the company announced it has plans to launch "exciting remasters of fan favorites" in their 2021 fiscal year. EA's build up of remasters will include Command & Conquer and others, but surely... just surely... this has to include Crysis. Crysis is a fan favorite, right?!

Death Stranding review: 'BREATHTAKING' embargo lifts REALLY SOON

Anthony Garreffa | Gaming | Oct 31, 2019 11:45 PM CDT

It looks like we only have a few more hours to wait until the reviews of Death Stranding are unleashed, with the review embargo for Hideo Kojima's new masterpiece lifting November 1 at 12:01AM PT / 3:01 AM ET / 7:01 AM GMT / 6 PM AET. Check out the recently-launched, and freaking amazing 8-minute launch trailer to Death Stranding here.

Death Stranding review: 'BREATHTAKING' embargo lifts REALLY SOON

There are reviewers who have already sunken untold hours into Death Stranding, with the author of Mecha Samurai Empire & Cyber Shogun Revolution, Peter Tieryas tweeting (too early) his thoughts on the game. He couldn't say too much about the game because of the impending embargo, but what he has to say is pretty damn good.

Tieryas said Death Stranding is "breathtaking, easily one of the most unique and stunning experiences I've had in all my years of gaming".

Samsung's new clamshell foldable shines in slick new renders

Anthony Garreffa | Mobile Devices | Oct 31, 2019 11:20 PM CDT

Samsung recently shared some concepts of its clamshell-style foldable smartphone, something that gives me some serious old-but-new Motorola Razr vibes, just before Motorola unveils its new... well, Razr that pretty much looks like Samsung's new concept.

Samsung's new clamshell foldable shines in slick new renders

There are no firm plans for a global launch of this concept phone just yet, with Samsung saying at its annual Developer Conference that this is a preview of a vertically folding, clamshell-style form factor. Samsung is just toying around with the idea right now, but it did show off a demo of a user recording video in full screen, and then creating a split view with more controls when folded 90 degrees. Slick.

Samsung might not ever release this clamshell-style phone, but with the Moto Razr about to make a big come back it wouldn't surprise me to see Samsung extend their Galaxy range into this design. As an original Razr owner, I'd love to see it happen.

Jack Dorsey: Twitter CEO says it will END political ads on Twitter

Anthony Garreffa | Internet & Websites | Oct 31, 2019 10:26 PM CDT

Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey announced on Twitter not too long ago that the social networking giant was going to stop all political advertising outside of non-partisan exceptions.

Jack Dorsey: Twitter CEO says it will END political ads on Twitter

The company will have its finished policy ready by November 15 and will enforce its new political advertising ban starting November 22. Dorsey said the decision was made from both principles and practical realities, saying that a tweet about politics should reach its desired audience without being "compromised by money".

As for the business side of things, Twitter reportedly only made less than $3 million in political advertising spend during the 2018 US midterms. But I'd dare say that things are much different now leading into the 2020 elections in the US, especially when one of the most powerful people on Twitter just so happens to the the President of the United States.

Death Stranding launch trailer: 'America is a LIE'

Anthony Garreffa | Gaming | Oct 31, 2019 8:49 PM CDT

Can you believe that Death Stranding is finally upon us? I mean it launches on November 8 as an exclusive to Sony's current-gen PlayStation 4 and has optimizations for the slightly beefier PlayStation 4 Pro -- as well as the recent news of Death Stranding coming to the PC 'sometime in 2020'.

Death Stranding launch trailer: 'America is a LIE'

Now we have a huge 8-minute long launch trailer for Death Stranding (above) with the team at Kojima Productions putting their all into this trailer, and it shows. It looks absolutely phenomenal, and truly like nothing else that is on the market, or like anything I've seen in my 30+ years as a gamer.

Hideo Kojima will go down in history with Metal Gear Solid and now Death Stranding, which I'm sure is going to sell a butt load of copies. I do wonder if this was a PlayStation 5 exclusive, just how good would it look? Would we have in-game graphics as good as that gorgeous CG in the 8-minute launch trailer? Hmm.

Ubisoft has 5 next-gen games for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Scarlett

Anthony Garreffa | Gaming | Oct 31, 2019 7:43 PM CDT

Ubisoft has confirmed during its recent earnings call with investors that it is working on 5 next-gen AAA games for both the current-gen and next-gen consoles, and by next-gen consoles the company means Sony's new PlayStation 5 and Microsoft's codename Xbox Scarlett console.

Ubisoft has 5 next-gen games for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Scarlett

During the call, Ubisoft talked about its Fiscal Year 2021 (FY21) which runs between April 2020 and March 2021, where in this window we can expect those 5 new AAA games launched on all current and next-gen consoles. Sony will be launching its next-gen PlayStation 5 in December 2020 according to my exclusive report, while Microsoft's next-gen Xbox Scarlett should launch very close to it in the tail end of 2020.

We know that 3 of the new 5 new games will include Watch Dogs Legion, Rainbow Six Quarantine and Gods & Monsters -- while the two other games are a mystery right now. This also means we'll see a PS4 and Xbox One launch of Watch Dogs Legion in March 2020, while a next-gen version will be offered when the PS5 and Xbox Scarlett launch in the end of 2020.

Diablo IV classes leaked: druid, barbarian and wizard to return

Diablo IV's character classes will include some returning favorites from Diablo II.

Diablo IV classes leaked: druid, barbarian and wizard to return

After years of development and even more years of waiting, Diablo IV will be revealed tomorrow. We actually know a fair bit about the upcoming APRG, but now we know even more thanks to a bunch of new leaks from a trusted industry source.

According to the source, three Diablo IV character classes have been confirmed so far: The barbarian, who retains their signature warcries and power attacks, the druid, who can shapeshift into a bear and a wolf, and the wizard, who predictably blasts elemental attacks. In a weird move, every class will have a mount to zoom around the map with (likely another avenue for Blizzard's monetized cosmetics). The game will have four-player co-op like Diablo III, and seems to use Diablo III's more streamlined gameplay mechanics melded with Diablo II's brutal, grim, and bloody artistic style.

Valve fully releases the extremely aesthetic Steam Library makeover

Jak Connor | Gaming | Oct 31, 2019 8:07 AM CDT

The Steam Library was famously a pain to deal with, it felt more like directory of your games than a library. Now that has all changed in the most recent update.

Valve fully releases the extremely aesthetic Steam Library makeover

Back in late September, Valve announced that Steam would be getting a huge library update. Now that update has made its way out of its beta tests and moved to the live servers for everyone to enjoy. Valve have announced the news via their blog and have brought everyone up to speed on the new features they can enjoy.

Right off the bat, we can see that Valve have added a splash of color to the library giving it more of 'gamer' feel rather than the dictionary feel it had before. The landing page for the library has changed and gamers can now organize their games into separate categories. The update also allows for Steam users to more easily check out what their friends are playing the community content behind each title. For further step-by-step feature description head on over to the official Steam blog here.

Variety has reported that while neither project has begun filming, both have been given the go ahead to start filming. This is Warner Bros attempt to sway viewers away from the already established major streaming services such as Netflix and Amazon Prime and with big names such as DC and its plethora of characters they might just have a silver bullet.

Greg Berlanti who is the producer of both the shows spoke out about the two projects in the pipeline, saying "Both of these original DC properties we'll be creating for HBO Max will be unlike anything seen on television... in what promises to be our biggest DC show ever made, we will be going to space with a Green Lantern television series, but I can't reveal any more about that just yet."

Is there a connection between full moons and an increase in crime?

Jak Connor | Science, Space, & Robotics | Oct 31, 2019 6:03 AM CDT

As we move onto the date of halloween, a new study has been published exploring the effects of full moon and the possible chance of a increase in crime activity.

Is there a connection between full moons and an increase in crime?

The study explores what has been called the "lunar effect", which is term that suggest that when full moons occur crime increases. The investigation was conducted by Betagov who began by researching the literature surrounding the "lunar effect", ultimately they found quite mixed opinions on the subject.

The study eventuated in a conversation with a Vallejo police official from California who pulled together his crime data from January 2014 to May 2018. The crime data included the phase of which the moon was at the time of the crime and, what might be to your surprise, the data indictated that there was no association between crime events and full moons.

xHelper the 'irremovable' malware found in over 45,000 Android devices

Jak Connor | Mobile Devices | Oct 31, 2019 5:10 AM CDT

A new kind of Android malware has been detected by cyber-security firms and they report that over 45,000 devices have been found to be compromised.

xHelper the 'irremovable' malware found in over 45,000 Android devices

The piece of malware is called xHelper and is a Trojan that is reportedly running rampant in Android users phones in India, US and Russia. Cyber-security firm Symantec has moved the malware up to the top 10 list of most detected malware, saying "In the past month alone, there was an average of 131 devices infected each day, and an average of 2,400 devices persistently infected throughout the month."

According to MalwareBytes, the source of the malware has been boiled down to users downloading it through shady game websites. The scariest thing about this malware is that its not easily removable either, since the malware doesn't display an app icon or a short cut. It also replicates itself throughout the users phone even after users perform a factory reset or a manual uninstall.

New study triples flooding estimations, 300+ million people at risk

Jak Connor | Science, Space, & Robotics | Oct 31, 2019 4:08 AM CDT

A new study that has been published suggests that the number of people threatened by climate change-related rising sea levels was incorrect, and that the number was much higher than previously thought.

New study triples flooding estimations, 300+ million people at risk

The study which has been published by Climate Central in Nature Communications has suggested that a massive 300 million people who are located in low-lying lands are extremely vulnerable to ocean flooding by 2050. The study also says that a further 200 million people are likely to fall permanently below sea level by the end of 2100.

Climate Central says that sea level rising expectations are actually three times higher than previously thought due to topographical data of lands being measured incorrectly. Climate Central wrote in the report that NASA's Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM), "generally overestimate elevation, particularly in densely forested and built-up areas. In low-lying parts of coastal Australia, for instance, SRTM data overestimate elevation by an average of 8.2 feet (2.5 meters)."

Aaron Paul's 'yeah bitch' in El Camino was not scripted, but left in

Jak Connor | TV, Movies & Home Theatre | Oct 31, 2019 3:07 AM CDT

If you have seen Breaking Bad and loved the show (like most people did), and you haven't seen El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie you are truly missing out.

Aaron Paul's 'yeah bitch' in El Camino was not scripted, but left in

Firstly, El Camino kicks off right after the events of Breaking Bad's final season and follows the story of escaped criminal Jesse Pinkman, played by Aaron Paul. Paul recently went onto Conan to discuss the hit Netflix movie and revealed some cool facts about what he found was lacking in the script.

If you know Breaking Bad then you know Paul's characters catch-phrase is "yeah bitch" as its said numerous times throughout the show. Paul says during Conan that "[he] never improvised a 'bitch' before. Every 'bitch' you saw, it was a scripted 'bitch.'" That all changed in El Camino, he says "I think maybe third or fourth time I read [the script for El Camino] I was like, 'Wait, there's no... there's no 'bitch' in here!'"

Old Rainbow, the 110-year old power plant is a historical landmark and since it was put out of commission the owners have been discussing what to do with it. Now, a grant has been approved by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) to convert the building into a cryptocurrency mining facility that will run 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

It is unclear what the facility will be specifically mining, but all in all the residents in Montana are happy with the decision due to the building requiring very minimal changes, ultimately keeping its historical value. The proposal sent the FERC says "minimal impact and maintain the historic character of the building."

Samsung's next-gen Galaxy S11 rumored to have 120Hz display

Anthony Garreffa | Mobile Devices | Oct 30, 2019 11:18 PM CDT

Samsung should see its flagship 2020 smartphones in the next-gen Galaxy S11 family feature 120Hz refresh rate displays, something that would make the entire phone experience silky-smooth.

Samsung's next-gen Galaxy S11 rumored to have 120Hz display

120Hz displays on smartphones isn't totally new, with ASUS and its kick-ass ROG Phone II and Razer's own iconic Razer Phone II both featuring 120Hz displays. Other manuifacturers like Google and OnePlus have 90Hz displays in their Pixel 4, Pixel 4 XL and One Plus 7T and 7T Pro smartphones, respectively.

But Samsung hasn't shifted into the world of faster refresh rates on its smartphones... yet. It seems that 2020 will be the year, where thanks to its latest Exynos 990 processor, we should see the world of 120Hz on the Galaxy S11 open up. The new Exynos 990 chip is also made on the new 7nm process.

NASA gets festive: posts photo of the sun as a flaming jack-o'-lantern

Anthony Garreffa | Science, Space, & Robotics | Oct 30, 2019 10:51 PM CDT

NASA has gotten into the festive spirit with Halloween in the coming hours, posting a photo to the official NASA pages on Facebook and Twitter of the sun looking like a gigantic flaming jack-o'-lantern.

NASA gets festive: posts photo of the sun as a flaming jack-o'-lantern

The reasoning behind the Halloween-themed photo of our star is that NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO) snapped the shot on October 8, 2014 -- with active regions of the sun at the top in a long line, and bottom two separate but similarly sized lines. When flipped upside down, resembles a face -- and more particularly, a jack-o'-lantern. It's pretty cool, or rather it's pretty hot.

NASA explained: "They are markers of an intense and complex set of magnetic fields hovering in the sun's atmosphere, the corona. This image blends together two sets of extreme ultraviolet wavelengths at 171 and 193 Angstroms, typically colorized in gold and yellow, to create a particularly Halloween-like appearance".

Intel's next-gen 38C/76T and 48C/96T chips coming in 2020

Anthony Garreffa | Processors | Oct 30, 2019 10:23 PM CDT

If you thought the CPU war was over... you'd be wrong: it has only just begun with AMD really slaying it right now with the Ryzen 3000 series, while Intel has literally just responded with the release on the Core i9-9900KS (our review here) with all-core 5GHz boost.

Intel's next-gen 38C/76T and 48C/96T chips coming in 2020

But what about the higher-end of things with AMD also starting to kick some serious ass with its EPYC datacenter/AI chips based on the new Zen 2 architecture as EPYC 'Rome' chips? Well, it seems that Intel is responding with some new rumors teased by Wccftech, which involve both a new 10nm and 14nm+++ CPU.

Intel's new Ice Lake-SP family of processors is on the fresh new 10nm node and will launch on the Intel Whitley platform, which also supports the Cooper Lake-SP/AP chips on the 14nm++ node.

Australian government wants to SCAN YOUR FACE before you watch porn

Anthony Garreffa | Hacking, Security & Privacy | Oct 30, 2019 9:35 PM CDT

If you watch porn Down Under, you might need to scan your face to get your rocks off in the future... with Australia's Department of Home Affairs seemingly aroused over the idea of scanning your face to verify your age before you can access porn or gambling websites.

Australian government wants to SCAN YOUR FACE before you watch porn

The new system is called "The Capability" and feels like it's ripped right out of Fringe, The X-Files and 1984 combined -- and even though the Department of Home Affairs said the facial recognition system is not functional, it is still floating the idea to Parliament in Australia that would change things in a big way for Australians porn and gambling habits.

The department said that its Document Verification Service and Face Verification Service which is used to fight regular crime and identify theft, could be enabled and used by authorities for age verification. The parliamentary submission explains: "This could assist in age verification, for example by preventing a minor from using their parent's driver licence to circumvent age verification controls".
