Will China be #1 in this ship-to-ship Pirate Battle Royale game?

Jak Connor | Gaming | Nov 2, 2019 4:05 AM CDT

The battle royale genre is extremely hard to break into, with already established titles such as Fortnite, Apex Legends and PUBG dominating the scene, developers have a hard time of entering the market with a new and popular title.

Will China be #1 in this ship-to-ship Pirate Battle Royale game?

But what about pirates? Everyone loves pirates right? Well, Iceberg Interactive took the plunge off the gangplank, developed the title and made the announcement of a pirate-based battle royale called Blazing Sails. Blazing Sails was announced during the Paris Games Week and pits players against each other in a classic battle royale arena but the catch is ship-to-ship combat.

From the trailer, we can summarize that players will be able to customize their character and ship while also working together as a crew to operate and siege other players ships. Ultimately, players will be after that sweet booty, and judging from the trailer they will be able to acquire this booty from dead players, captured ships and chests. Iceberg Interactive are aiming for fast-paced naval battles through quick skirmish matches. According to the Steam page, Blazing Sails: Pirate Battle Royale will launch in early 2020.

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse 2 confirmed to release early 2022

Jak Connor | TV, Movies & Home Theatre | Nov 2, 2019 3:10 AM CDT

Its a fantastic day for Spider-Man fans as it has now been officially confirmed that Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse will be getting a well-deserved sequel.

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse 2 confirmed to release early 2022

The news has come from Christopher Miller who was a co-producer with Phil Lord on the first film. Above we have the Tweet from Miller's official Twitter account and its captioned, "We're coming back. April 8, 2022". The Tweet shows a glitching Miles Morales Spider symbol, and the glitching seems to be the same of the reality tears that were a massive part of the first film.

This might not come as a massive surprise to hardcore Spider-Man fans, considering the first movies end credit scene of a new character voiced by Oscar Issac. While I won't get into any spoilers if you haven't seen the movie, I will though highly recommend the film to not only Spider-Man fans but also any comic book fans, as its one of the best comic book movies ever released.

Jak Connor | Gaming | Nov 2, 2019 2:05 AM CDT

BlizzCon 2019 - Blizzard Entertainment have teased World of Warcraft fans with a new gameplay trailer detailing all of the new features to arrive in the new coming expansion "Shadowlands".

World of Warcraft: Shadowlands Features Overview trailer released

Sylvanas has killed the Lich King and claimed his powers for her own. She has also opened up a portal to the afterlife where players will be taken for the next expansion. Above we have The Features Overview trailer which gives us a look at what to expect for the next expansion gameplay-wise.

Players will be introduced to four new zones: Revendreth, Ardenweald, Maldraxxus and Bastion. Firstly, game director Ion Hazzikostas explained at BlizzCon that Revendreth is "a land of Gothic spires and dark secrets" ruled by the Covenant Venthyr. Next, Ardenweald takes players to a "enchanted mystical forest" controlled by the Night Fae. Madraxxus is a stronghold for the Shadowlands military, controlled by Necrolord. Jak Connor | Gaming | Nov 2, 2019 1:05 AM CDT

BlizzCon 2019 - Blizzard Entertainment have officially confirmed and showcased the next expansion to come to World of Warcraft, introducing World of Warcraft: Shadowlands.

Next World of Warcraft expansion 'Shadowlands' shown in EPIC cinematic

Above we have the official cinematic trailer for Shadowlands where we see Sylvanas go toe-to-toe with the legendary Lich King. Sylvanas narrates the trailer as she explains that she believes the Lich King is a "usurper", saying "No king rules forever."

In the cinematic we see Sylvanas attack the Lich King and his army, using her arrows and quick moves Sylvanas seems to make quick work of the King. Before his demise, the Lich King warns Sylvanas "that power will be your prison", she replies after a brief pause, saying "This world is a prison. And I will set us all free." She then breaks the Lich King helmet in two opening a portal to the afterlife above Icecrown Citadel. World of Warcraft: Shadowlands will release sometime next year.

Yeah, Overwatch 2 is also coming to the Nintendo Switch

Anthony Garreffa | Gaming | Nov 1, 2019 11:27 PM CDT

Blizzard had a huge surprise by announcing Overwatch 2 during its opening keynote at BlizzCon 2019, but news quickly broke and was confirmed that Overwatch 2 would also be coming to the Nintendo Switch.

Yeah, Overwatch 2 is also coming to the Nintendo Switch

It wasn't even that long ago that the original Overwatch hit the Nintendo Switch, but now that Overwatch 2 has been announced -- without a release date, we know it'll hit the PC, Xbox One, PS4, and the Nintendo Switch. No mobile Overwatch 2 for now folks, even with news that Apex Legends will be on new platforms (PlayStation 5 and Xbox Scarlett) as well as mobile in the near future.

Overwatch 2 will feature "significant engine upgrades" that are exclusive to the new game, but there are no details on what exactly we'll see on the Nintendo Switch version of OW2. We might see a very baked-down version of the suped-up engine for Overwatch 2 on the Nintendo Switch, but only time will tell with that.

Overwatch 2 has 'significant engine upgrades': better graphics & more

Anthony Garreffa | Gaming | Nov 1, 2019 10:47 PM CDT

So, Blizzard did something kinda big by announcing Overwatch 2 during its BlizzCon 2019 opening keynote, and while many big fans of the franchise (like myself, it's my most-played game of all time) are a little mixed about it... there are some good things inside.

Overwatch 2 has 'significant engine upgrades': better graphics & more

First, Overwatch 2 has "significant engine upgrades" that usher in the ability of offering much bigger maps that will be perfect for the new co-op mode, new enemies and factions, and better graphics in Overwatch 2 than its predecessor, Overwatch.

Blizzard have made a complete overhaul of the Overwatch engine, with the PvE mode and graphics/engine changes totally exclusive to Overwatch 2. While more of the Overwatch + Overwatch 2 worlds are mixed, the graphics upgrade is solely exclusive to Overwatch 2.

Anthony Garreffa | Processors | Nov 1, 2019 10:01 PM CDT

We started hearing concrete details on Intel's new 10th-gen Comet Lake family of CPUs in July 2019, with the flagship Core i9-10900KF rocking 10C/20T @ 5.2GHz, but now we have more information and a new 400-series chipset and LGA 1200 socket teased.

Intel Core i9-10900: 10C/20T at 5.1GHz coming on 14nm+++ in 2020

Intel will reportedly be using a refined 14nm+++ node for the new 10th gen Comet Lake CPUs, with the initial launch consisting of 9 different SKUs with many others dropping post-launch. We should expect everything from the low-end Celeron and Pentium CPUs through to Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, Core i9, and Xeon W variants of Comet Lake.

Intel is expecting somewhere around 18% performance improvements in multi-threaded compute workloads, and an 8% generational improvement in normal Windows tasks over the 9th gen parts on the market.

Google acquires Fitbit for $2.1 billion

Anthony Garreffa | Business, Financial & Legal | Nov 1, 2019 9:35 PM CDT

Google has acquired Fitbit in a deal worth $2.1 billion, with Google SVP of devices and services Rick Osterloh explaining in a blog post that acquiring Fitbit is "an opportunity to invest even more in Wear OS as well as introduce Made by Google wearable devices into the market".

Google acquires Fitbit for $2.1 billion

Fitbit will be joining Google itself just like when the company acquired Nest, versus breaking it up or sending it to join Alphabet and be used in a different fashion. Fitbit also had something to say in their own press release, standing by its privacy for health and fitness data (especially now that it's joined the do-no-evil Google). Fitbit said: "Fitbit health and wellness data will not be used for Google ads".

This is a good fit for Google as it transitions into 2020 it'll need to better fight Apple and its Watch family of wearables, and Google can bring some of its smarts into Fitbit's smartwatches and future wearables. Google has its own fitness tracking software and apps, and could see Fitbit blend works with Google Fit.

Hideo Kojima starts talking about his next game after Death Stranding

Anthony Garreffa | Gaming | Nov 1, 2019 7:55 PM CDT

Hideo Kojima must now finally be able to sleep with Death Stranding finished and being pressed into Blu-ray discs for the PS4 as we speak, with our Death Stranding Review roundup right here. But what about his next game?

Hideo Kojima starts talking about his next game after Death Stranding

Well, that's something Kojima talked about in a recent BAFTA panel that featured the man himself and film director Nicolas Winding Refn (who also plays Heartman in Death Stranding). Towards the end of the panel, Kojima began to talk about being excited for what he and his team are working on post-Death Stranding.

Kojima said: "Well, I'm kind of not just anxious about it, but also I'm really facing towards the future already. Nicolas is the same, I think. When you finish a project, and your body's resting and you take a break with your family, your brain is always constantly thinking. So you finish something, and - well, Death Stranding will be released next week, but I'm already thinking about the next project, and the next, next project, and I'm trying to prepare things. But it's a natural thing for me. It's like having breakfast, lunch, or dinner. It's nothing special to me, it's as simple as that. But the next project that I could work on, just to think about that, I'm happy to think that I could work on it; I'm still physically fit to do it".

Death Stranding Review roundup -- Hideo Kojima's best game yet?

Anthony Garreffa | Gaming | Nov 1, 2019 7:29 PM CDT

Death Stranding is here and along with it major websites and gaming havens have Death Stranding reviews, with mostly positive words to say about Hideo Kojima's latest and greatest post-Konami masterpiece.

Death Stranding Review roundup -- Hideo Kojima's best game yet?

Hideo Kojima has built one of the most interesting games in gaming history with Death Stranding, which seems to have caused a slight divide amongst reviewers. I'll be more keen to see how the game goes in actual gamers' hands when it launches on November 8 for the PS4 and 2020 for the PC.

Death Stranding launches exclusively for Sony's PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 4 Pro consoles, while the PC will get Death Stranding sometime in 2020.

Justice League Snyder Cut confirmed (again) by Jason Momoa (again)

Anthony Garreffa | TV, Movies & Home Theatre | Nov 1, 2019 6:25 PM CDT

WB really did a number on Snyder when it came to Justice League... which is a story for a different time, but if you didn't know... there is a Snyder Cut that is over 3 hours long, with finished visual effects, score, a totally different storyline, new characters and actors, and so much more. Aquaman himself has confirmed this not once, but now twice. Check out the interview below:

Justice League Snyder Cut confirmed (again) by Jason Momoa (again)

I've got the video at 12:40 which is when the discussion about the Snyder Cut of Justice League begins, but the entire video covers a bunch of stuff. It starts off about the meaning of guitars on Momoa's life, growing up in Hawaii, working on Baywatch, Game of Thrones, his new show See, who he would play in Star Wars, Aquaman (of course), and then the big one -- the Snyder Cut of Justice League.

A year ago, MTV News's Josh Horowitz interviewed Jason Momoa for Aquaman -- throwing in a Snyder Cut of Justice League question. Momoa answered: "I'm obsessed with (the idea of the Snyder cut) too, yeah. I mean, that's one thing that sucks in our business where you can't speak your mind. Yeah! Fuck yeah, I want to see it".

Capture Red Dead Redemption 2's PC beauty in new photo mode

Derek Strickland | Gaming | Nov 1, 2019 5:17 PM CDT

Red Dead Redemption 2 on PC is the definitive version of the game, complete with high-end graphics and uncapped frame rates for powerful systems. And naturally Rockstar wants you to show off their amazing Western with a new photo mode.

Today Rockstar confirmed Red Dead Redemption 2's incoming PC release will have a photo mode, complete with tons of options and effects. The photo mode can freeze frame any scene in the singleplayer campaign and let you zoom around to capture those epic and hilarious moments.

This game was pretty much built for a photo mode. Everything in RDR2 is already amazing, from the lighting effects to the ultra-realistic textures and living, breathing world, and now gamers can basically immortalize their experiences with an in-depth snapshot mode, complete with resolution support up to 8K and lots more.

Diablo II's best feature returns in Diablo IV

Derek Strickland | Gaming | Nov 1, 2019 4:32 PM CDT

Blizzard confirms major features coming to Diablo IV, including runewords, new skills and abilities, co-op player count, and trading.

Diablo II's best feature returns in Diablo IV

Diablo III was a big mess at launch, and was a huge departure for the series. Blizzard wants to rectify that with Diablo IV. A lot of the series classic features are returning for Diablo IV, including player-to-player trading, which is 100% necessary to create an engaging online world, and one of my favorite item mechanics of all time: Runewords.

Diablo II Lord of Destruction's runewords opened up a new dimension to gameplay. Runewords like Enigma let any character teleport around in the game, and Call to Arms also gave any character the barbarian's battle order warcries. The result opened up gameplay like never before and created some insane builds. I can only imagine what kinds of crazy combinations Blizzard is cooking up with Diablo IV.

Diablo IV classes and skills revealed, barb may triple-wield

After years of waiting, Diablo is back. Not only did we get a mesmerizing cinematic reveal trailer, but Blizzard also dropped first gameplay footage of Diablo IV, and it looks pretty good.

Blizzard's not messing around with Diablo IV. It's a brutal, gruesome, and supremely horrifying game that embraces Diablo II's old-school visual style and mechnical character builds while building Diablo III's more streamlined combat and graphics engine.

Diablo IV revealed with haunting and macabre trailer

Derek Strickland | Gaming | Nov 1, 2019 1:37 PM CDT

Diablo IV was finally confirmed today with a visually macabre trailer.

Diablo IV revealed with haunting and macabre trailer

Diablo IV is what Diablo III should've always been. It's a warped mixture of Hellraiser with classic demonic Diablo overtones, but modernized with splendidly haunting and bizarre style that's straight out of Bryan Fuller's imagination. The new trailer confirms Lilith, the Daughter of Hatred and the Mother of Nephalem, as the principal demonic antagonist, and she looks absolutely nightmarish.

The footage shows four miscreant pirates walking into a demonic temple in search of gold. Little do they know they've stumbled upon the summoning grounds for Lilith...and her eldritch revival is so striking that it rivals most horror films.

Ubisoft: The Division 2 is meaningfully profitable

Derek Strickland | Gaming | Nov 1, 2019 5:24 AM CDT

Ubisoft clarifies mixed signals on The Division 2, saying the game is still a success that simply didn't break the bar set by the company.

Ubisoft: The Division 2 is meaningfully profitable

The Division 2 sold tremendously well on all platforms and markets. The sequel was the best-selling game in the first six months of 2019. But in today's landscape game sales aren't everything. Ubisoft cares a lot more about what it calls PRI or Player Recurring Investment, or cosmetic microtransactions and season/battle passes. Game sales are just the beginning, and the aim is to keep monetizing gamers over time and offering free content in return.

If The Division 2 was a huge sales success, it's not too hard to see why the game missed Ubisoft's expectations. It apparently just didn't monetize as strongly as the company had hoped. A game moving massive units isn't enough for a digital-first developer like Ubisoft. The real money comes in with recurring live service microtransactions, and Ubisoft was counting on much more than what the game delivered.

Halo Reach on PC at 4K 60FPS only requires Core i5 and GeForce GTX 770

Anthony Garreffa | Gaming | Nov 1, 2019 5:10 AM CDT

Start saving your money folks for that GeForce RTX 2080 Ti for Halo Reach at 4K 60FPS... I mean, wait -- 343 industries has just released the official PC specs for Halo Reach and they are recommending just a GeForce GTX 770 for 4K 60FPS.

343 Industries official PC requirements for Halo Reach see you needing a mix of low-end CPUs in the 1080p 60FPS range with an AMD FX-4100 or Intel i7-870 processor, 8GB of RAM and either an AMD Radeon R7 360 or NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560 Ti graphics card. Yeah, that's not a typo -- an AMD Radeon R7 360 or GeForce GTX 560 Ti.

If you want to crank things up to 4K 60FPS then 343i recommends only modest PC specs as well, with an older and very much previous-gen AMD FX-6350 or Intel Core i5-3450 processor, the same 8GB of RAM, and either an AMD Radeon RX 480 or GeForce GTX 770. Once again, that's not a typo -- you need only a Radeon RX 480 or GeForce GTX 770 to run Halo Reach at 4K 60FPS.
