Red Dead Redemption 2 pre-load on the PC: requires 110GB HDD space

Anthony Garreffa | Gaming | Oct 30, 2019 7:29 PM CDT

Can you believe it's almost here? Rockstar Games is preparing PC gamers for the huge launch of Red Dead Redemption 2, with the game now pre-loading for gamers through the Rockstar Launcher.

Red Dead Redemption 2 pre-load on the PC: requires 110GB HDD space

The PlayStation 4 version of Red Dead Redemption 2 weighs in at close to 100GB, while the Xbox One version came in at around 110GB so the PC version scooping up 110GB isn't a big surprise. Well, it actually is a surprise given how much better the PC version looks, and that it doesn't use more HDD space.

So how the hell did the console versions of the game require 100-110GB of HDD space while the PC version requires the same HDD space as the Xbox One version and looks infinitely better than both the PS4 and Xbox One versions of Red Dead Redemption 2? It makes me want to spit my tobacco into a spittoon, or something.

Sony: PS5 development going according to plan

Derek Strickland | Gaming | Oct 30, 2019 6:33 PM CDT

Sony affirms its powerful next-gen PS5 won't be delayed, and that the console is meeting their expectations.

Sony: PS5 development going according to plan

Sony has a lot riding on the PlayStation 5, and the company is taking the console very, very seriously. Not only is it significantly ramping up development of its games and services in prep for the mighty Zen 2 and Navi GPU-powered PS5, but it's also putting a hefty amount of time and money into the system's development. Sony has been coy about revealing official PS5 details to investors, but in its recent Q2'19 earnings report the company says the PS5 is currently on track.

"Development of the PS5 is progressing according to plan and we believe development of game titles by our software development partners is progressing smoothly. We anticipate providing the highly-engaging gameplay experiences that both current users of the PS4 and potential new users have come to expect," Sony said in the report.

PS4 sales break 100 million, PS Plus subscribers at record high

Today Sony announced its Fiscal Q2'19 financials, confirming a new total sales milestone for the PlayStation 4. As of the second quarter, PS4 shipments sit at 102.8 million, meaning the PS4 beats all other legacy consoles except for the PlayStation 2.

Sony shipped 2.8 million PS4s in Q2'19, down 28% year-over-year from Q2'18. The company expects hardware revenues to slow down throughout the rest of the fiscal year as it ramps up its next-gen PlayStation 5. The Games and Network Services segment, which includes PlayStation hardware, services, and games, only accounted for 21% of Sony's total revenues throughout Q2'19.

Modern Warfare reboot beats Black Ops 3 and 4's opening sales

Modern Warfare is a sales juggernaut that beat Black Ops 4's and even Black Ops 3's opening weekend earnings, becoming the fastest-selling Call of Duty game on PS4 and Xbox One to date. The reboot still didn't beat Black Ops II's astronomical $500 million first-day sales, though.

Here's a quick historical breakdown of Call of Duty's opening earnings:

Battlefield V content carries through 2020, may get next-gen updates

Derek Strickland | Gaming | Oct 30, 2019 12:26 PM CDT

EA confirmed a new Battlefield game is coming by 2022 with optimizations for next-gen consoles, but until then Battlefield V will carry the franchise.

Battlefield V content carries through 2020, may get next-gen updates

Battlefield V isn't going anywhere, and EA says the game will continue to get updates throughout 2020 and beyond as DICE prepares Battlefield 6 for next-gen systems. The publisher teases new dynamic modes and huge content to expand the experience and re-engage players. The main goal is to keep players busy, have a recurring revenue stream, and possibly even sell catalog copies while everyone waits for the insanity that is Battlefield 6 on PS5 and Project Scarlett.

"Our Battlefield franchise and its community are also a major focus for us, and we'll add new content and new ways to play Battlefield V in FY '21. Targeting new innovation that will be enabled by next-gen platforms and a growing install base on the new consoles, our next Battlefield game is set for FY '22," EA CEO Andrew Wilson said in a recent earnings call.

EA's Battlefront games are huge successes with 33 million copies sold

Derek Strickland | Gaming | Oct 30, 2019 8:24 AM CDT

No wonder Disney is happy with EA's Star Wars games: They're actually massively successful insofar as sales.

EA's Battlefront games are huge successes with 33 million copies sold

EA today confirmed their two Star Wars: Battlefront games combined have sold over a 33 million copies worldwide, and asserted DICE is committed to engaging with the Star Wars audience. This is actually surprising news, especially with the huge Battlefront II lootbox controversy that marred the game's launch in 2017.

Powered by live services that continually deliver revenue over time, both Battlefront games have kept gamers busy for years now and made consistent earnings while engaging players with tons of free content. Battlefront II saw an extension of life after EA shut down Visceral Games and cancelled its Star Wars action game, leading DICE to support the shooter with a massive array of tweaks and free expansions.

Hubble Telescope stumbled across this scary 'alien' face in deep space

Jak Connor | Science, Space, & Robotics | Oct 30, 2019 4:06 AM CDT

The common representation of what an 'alien' would look like if we ever found one is large oval shaped heads, black eyes, small mouths and an overbearing intellect. NASA's Hubble Telescope has found something out in deep space that seems extremely similar to that.

Hubble Telescope stumbled across this scary 'alien' face in deep space

Hubble was doing what it does best, tracking galaxies and giving us amazing pictures of the cosmos. Recently, the space telescope released the above image, and from what we think we know about aliens the image resembles something close to what a Grey is supposed to look like.

While the image is most certainly not an alien of any kind, but instead, and more accurately put - the galaxy system Arp-Madore 2026-424. This system is located about 704 million light-years from Earth and if you look closely at the two galaxies spinning near the center of the image they can be made into eyes.

Game of Thrones Prequel TV show is reportedly dead in the water

Jak Connor | TV, Movies & Home Theatre | Oct 30, 2019 3:08 AM CDT

Remember when Game of Thrones ended and we caught wind of HBO making a prequel series that would explore the events before Westeros' seven kingdoms? Well, apparently that idea has been abandoned.

Game of Thrones Prequel TV show is reportedly dead in the water

According to a new report coming out of Deadline, the prequel series is now dead in the water. Jane Goldman the writer and showrunner for the prequel series has reportedly been sending emails out to cast and crew about the project, telling them that the pilot not going to happen.

At the moment HBO hasn't commented on whether or not the prequel will go ahead, but for the time being it doesn't seem very likely. According to Game of Thrones writer, George R.R Martin, the Game of Thrones prequel show would concentrate on Westeros in the era when it had 100 petty kingdoms, more on that here.

NASA's Curiosity Rover did rare science work, then snapped a selfie

Jak Connor | Science, Space, & Robotics | Oct 30, 2019 2:10 AM CDT

There is nothing quite like a good selfie after a hard days work, or at least that's what NASA's Curiosity Rover thinks.

NASA's Curiosity Rover did rare science work, then snapped a selfie

On September 24th, NASA's Curiosity Rover which is currently station on Mars performed some rare science work called "wet chemistry". This is the second time the rover has performed this experiement since it landed on the Red Planet seven years ago. The experiment consists of the rover dropping a drilled sample into a special solvent which could allow for scientists to identify carbon-containing molecules.

The reason the rover has decided to conduct the experiment now is because the its currently exploring an area that is rich in clay materials, and clay materials are great at preserving many chemical compounds. According to Paul Mahaffy, of NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland, "We've been eager to find an area that would be compelling enough to do wet chemistry, now that we're in the clay-bearing unit, we've finally got it."

Deep neural network achieves human-like character movement & motion

Jak Connor | Artificial Intelligence | Oct 30, 2019 1:08 AM CDT

Researchers have showcased a brand new 3D animated character being brought to life, the catch? It moves exactly like humans do.

Deep neural network achieves human-like character movement & motion

Computer scientists from the University of Edinburgh and Adobe Research have developed a data driven technique that uses a deep neural network to accurately guide 3D animated characters. The precision of the neural network showcases characters in a variety of different motions such as sitting in chairs, picking up objects, running, side-stepping, climbing through obstacles and more.

Komura, coauthor and chair of computer graphics at the University of Edinburgh spoke out about the achievement, saying "The technique essentially mimics how a human intuitively moves through a scene or environment and how it interacts with objects, realistically and precisely." If you are interested in checking out the video of the animated character for yourself, click this link right here.

Apex Legends will work on Steam without running Origin

Anthony Garreffa | Gaming | Oct 29, 2019 11:25 PM CDT

EA made the surprise announcement in the last 24 hours that Apex Legends would be coming to Steam, as well as the game hitting 70 million players, and some even bigger news -- it's coming to mobile platforms and most likely even next-gen consoles in the Sony PlayStation 5 and Microsoft Xbox Scarlett consoles in late-2020.

Apex Legends will work on Steam without running Origin

But the cherry on top of all of this is that Apex Legends will work with Steam and not require Origin running, unlike other EA games that will require Origin to be running in order to work on Steam.

We know this because Respawn Entertainment staffer 'thezilch' commented on this Reddit post about Apex Legends will be coming to Steam in 2020!, they replied saying: "Not true. Apex will launch directly with Steam without running Origin".

Every Superman, Batman, and Joker movie ever made to stream on HBO Max

Anthony Garreffa | TV, Movies & Home Theatre | Oct 29, 2019 10:55 PM CDT

HBO Max was announced in full today with a release window of May 2020 and monthly cost of $14.99, it'll rock the entire series of mega-hits Friends and The Big Bang Theory, as well as every single Joker, Batman, and Superman movie ever made.

Every Superman, Batman, and Joker movie ever made to stream on HBO Max

This means you'll get the classic (and my childhood favorite movies) in Superman: The Movie, Superman II, Superman III, and Superman IV: The Quest for Peace. Not only that, but you'll even get the recent R-rated success in Todd Phillips' Joker, as well as every theatrical release of the Batman franchise including The Dark Knight Trilogy.

We can also expect other movies in both characters' history with Man of Steel and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice starring Henry Cavill as Clark Kent/Kal-El/Superman and Ben Affleck as Bruce Wayne/Batman. We'll also see Justice League, Suicide Squad, Aquaman, and many others. This will be a huge win for HBO Max as it has Warner Bros. behind it, and will be the big battler against Disney+ that now owns Marvel and the entire MCU.

The Outer Worlds completed in just over 30 minutes in new speedrun

The Outer Worlds has only just come out and there's already someone who has speedrun through the game, finishing it in just over 30 minutes flat.

The Outer Worlds completed in just over 30 minutes in new speedrun

Obsidian Entertainment's latest game has been beaten in just 30 minutes and 54 seconds, with speedrunner 'Jabo' absolutely smashing through The Outer Worlds. Considering The Outer Worlds is an RPG, these speedruns make it even more impressive.

You can't just run-and-gun your way through RPGs but if you're fast enough and skilled enough at speedrunning, Jabo proves you can. He does all of this using The Outer World's built-in stun mechanics, bringing the major boss robot at the end to its knees. It's all done with the standard revolver in the game called The Vermin.

Apex Legends is coming to mobile, and most likely next-gen consoles

Anthony Garreffa | Gaming | Oct 29, 2019 9:28 PM CDT

EA had quite a lot to share regarding Apex Legends during its recent financial earnings call, with CFO Blake Jorgensen saying that Apex Legends will launch on new platforms.

Apex Legends is coming to mobile, and most likely next-gen consoles

Right now, Apex Legends is available on the PC, Xbox One, and PS4 -- but now Apex Legends will be coming to mobile for both iOS and Android, but there is no ETA on when it will arrive. We should also expect Apex Legends to launch on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Scarlett consoles when they launch late 2020.

EA also announced that Apex Legends has reached up to 70 million registered players, with EA also adding that Apex Legends will become one of their vital online games moving into the future. This explains the push into mobile which could see Apex Legends adding 10s of millions of new users, just like Fortnite which is on consoles and mobile.

Sony should launch its PlayStation 10 console in the year 2050

Anthony Garreffa | Gaming | Oct 29, 2019 8:55 PM CDT

I exclusively reported not too long ago that Sony will be launching its next-gen PlayStation 5 console in December 2020, and then news broke about Sony trademarking the PS6 through to the PS10. Well, I've cracked the code and know when Sony will release them.

Sony should launch its PlayStation 10 console in the year 2050

Using my magic code-breaking-thingamajig I have worked out that Sony will launch the PlayStation 6 in 2026, while going through to the PlayStation 10 we'll see it in 2050. Sony have around 6 years between each console, so at that rate of 6 years between next-gen PlayStation releases we should see the PS10 in around 2050, or so.

I'll be 67 years old that year. Having owned each of the PlayStation consoles, it seems the PS5 is going to be quite the beast upgrade over previous-gen units. But what the hell would a PS10 be like from here? 16K at 240FPS? I think we'll be beyond resolutions by then, beyond normal 'pixels.

Apex Legends reaches huge 70 million player milestone

Anthony Garreffa | Gaming | Oct 29, 2019 8:25 PM CDT

EA has been enjoying a great time this year, with the surprise launch of Apex Legends earlier this year -- but when you join it with FIFA Ultimate Team, Madden Ultimate Team, and The Sims 4 seeing Electronic Arts have "an excellent second quarter".

Apex Legends reaches huge 70 million player milestone

Electronic Arts announced Apex Legends passed 70 million players since its launch earlier this year, and then the news that Apex Legends will be coming over to Steam thanks to the new partnership between EA and Valve. This will open up the game to millions of other gamers who might not want to use or install Origin, and makes things much easier for people (like me) who only uses Origin for Apex Legends.

Apex Legends is a free-to-play title which drives its userbase through the roof, but developer Respawn Entertainment have been doing a great job keeping the game flowing well. The new third season throws in a new map into Apex Legends, which really does change the game completely.

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080/3080 Ti: more VRAM, way faster and CHEAPER?!

Anthony Garreffa | Graphics Cards | Oct 29, 2019 7:29 PM CDT

NVIDIA launched its new GeForce GTX 1660 SUPER graphics card in the first few hours of October 29, and as I awake the first thing I see is a juicy new rumor post about NVIDIA's next-gen Ampere GPU architecture (something I revealed back in April 2018) and details on the purported GeForce RTX 3000 series graphics cards.

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080/3080 Ti: more VRAM, way faster and CHEAPER?!

The news is coming from the purported fact that NVIDIA has been discussing Ampere and the next-gen GeForce RTX 3000 series cards with AIB partners, and Wccftech has posted up these rumors. We don't know any concrete details on the Ampere GPU itself, which is something NVIDIA will deep dive into once it's announced -- but there are a few very juicy tidbits here that if true, would be great to see.

First off, NVIDIA's new Ampere-based cards should arrive to consumers in the GeForce RTX 3070, GeForce RTX 3080, and GeForce RTX 3080 Ti if NVIDIA follow the same release plans as the GeForce RTX 2070, RTX 2080, and RTX 2080 Ti launch. These cards are going to be faster, offer more VRAM, and hell they're even reportedly going to be cheaper.
