AMD Ryzen Threadripper 3990X: 64C/128T launches January 2020
AMD will reportedly be announcing its next-gen Ryzen Threadripper 3000 series CPUs on November 7, with three different SKUs to b e revealed alongside a new TRX40 chipset and motherboards.
AMD will reportedly be unveiling and detailing the Ryzen Threadripper 3960X and 3970X processors, while just reportedly teasing the higher-end and flagship Ryzen Threadripper 3990X processor. We should expect the name and possibly core/thread count (64C/128T fingers crossed) but clock speeds and pricing will be held.
The reviews of the AMD Ryzen Threadripper 3990X are set to hit in January 2020, while the Ryzen Threadripper 3960X and 3970X processors will find reviews ready for November 19 which isn't too far away from now.

Red Dead Redemption 2: Vulkan and DX12, 40 graphics options to tweak
Red Dead Redemption 2 has just launched on the PC and while I was able to download it and initially run it, the Rockstar Launcher crashed and I couldn't load into RDR2 again (at least at the time of writing).
Now that Rockstar has launched Red Dead Redemption 2, I did however get into the game and begin my benchmarking article on the game and noted down all of the graphical options to tweak. Rockstar has over 40 graphical options to tweak with my test rig packed with an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 Ti using around 6GB of VRAM at 4K and maxed out settings in Red Dead Redemption 2.
There is an option to change the graphics API from its default setting on Vulkan to DX12, but given that Rockstar Launcher continuously crashed I haven't been able to test it just yet. I did play around with the graphics settings and yeah, there's a lot of them to play around with. They go from Low to Ultra for the most part, with some maxing out at High and others like TAA being a toggle ON/OFF.

Check out this 24 minute Diablo 4 gameplay video
Diablo 4 is getting some big gameplay love with some glorious 4K screenshots recently teased alongside 21:9 UltraWide shots of Activision-Blizzard's upcoming RPG but now we have some gameplay footage.
There are 24 glorious minutes of Diablo 4 gameplay goodness there, with Game Informer sitting down to play the game for around two solid days at the Blizzard offices in Irvine, California. This gave the team a good idea as to how Diablo 4 felt in tgerms of graphics, gameplay, and solid RPG mayhem in typical Diablo style.
Blizzard has some nice tweaks in Diablo 4 that the team has been working on for many years now, even since before the release of Diablo 3. Lots of this new blood (pardon the pun) has been infused into the Hellish world of Diablo 4, which currently has no release date outside of it dropping sometime in 2020.

Seagate will have 50TB HDDs by 2026, 18TB and 20TB launch in 2020
Seagate is teasing some gigantic HDDs for 2020, with the first half of 2020 seeing the storage giant unleash 18TB HDDs into the world, but by the end of 2020 we'll be seeing even bigger 20TB HDDs.
The company is headed towards releasing the first commercial HAMR-based HDDs in the second half of 2020, while the new 18TB drive will be based on the same 9-platter platform that Seagate uses for its current Exos 16TB HDD. This means that Seagate has everything it needs to put 18TB HDDs into mass production before HAMR arrives in 2H 2020.
Seagate will be putting many more eggs into the HAMR basket going forward, with its own 30TB+ HDD planned for 2023-2024 and an even bigger 50TB+ based on HAMR in 2026. The one thing I think of when I see 50TB is image losing 50TB of data in a single drive... that is millions of photos, videos, and untold billions of files gone in an instant. Still, from a tech perspective -- 50TB in a single drive, WOW.

AMD confirms Ryzen 4000 series coming in early 2020
If you thought AMD had a big year in 2019, then you ain't seen nothin' yet. AMD is set to have a cracker of a year in 2020, with AMD CEO Dr. Lisa Su confirming that the company will be rolling out its next-gen Ryzen 4000 series CPUs in early 2020.
In a recent chat with VentureBeat, AMD CEO Dr. Lisa Su explained: "We're also pretty excited as we go into 2020. You'll start to see our next-generation mobile products, as well, coming in early 2020. You'll see 7nm mobile chips that have yet to come to market. That's a pretty strong portfolio. We're well underway with Zen 3 as a follow-on, as well, for 2020 - lots of product activity".
So there you have it -- next-gen Ryzen 4000 series mobile CPUs in early 2020. We should expect desktop Ryzen 4000 series CPUs maybe a few months later closer to Computex 2019 in June, with a release in July to line up as 12 months after AMD's reveal and releases of the current kick-ass Ryzen 3000 series based on the Zen 2 architecture and 7nm node.

Voyager 2 officially reaches interstellar space & sends message back
Humans have now successfully got a second man-made object out into interstellar space. Voyager 2 has now officially joined Voyager 1 out in the abyss.
Researchers out of the University of Iowa have reported that Voyager 2 has officially entered the interstellar medium or ISM for short. The ISM is a region in space that is outside of the Suns solar winds, and this was discovered by researchers detecting a definitive jump in plasma density. Researchers noticed that the spacecraft went from the hot, low density plasma characteristics, to cool, higher density recordings.
According to Don Gurnett, an author on the study that is published in Nature Astronomy, "In a historical sense, the old idea that the solar wind will just be gradually whittled away as you go further into interstellar space is simply not true. We show with Voyager 2-and previously with Voyager 1-that there's a distinct boundary out there. It's just astonishing how fluids, including plasmas, form boundaries."

Stan Lee played a pivotal role in the direction of Marvel's Avengers
Marvel's Avengers developers have revealed that Stan Lee played a crucial part in how they know how to tell stories.
TechRadar was lucky enough to sit down with Crystal Dynamics, the developers of the upcoming Marvel's Avengers game. Throughout the interview with Scot Amos, head of studio at Crystal Dynamics, the topic of Stan Lee was brought up and how he influenced the developers in their story telling. Amos says that before Lee passed, they were lucky enough to be able to ask the father of Marvel for some direction tips.
According to Amos, "Stan was a complicated guy. He just loved his characters. We actually asked him, what does he want to do and what is his characterization. We had questions through fans and members of even Marvel, saying, 'Well, what can we ask him? What is his relationship [with us]? What do we have to do?'" Amos continued to explain that Lee's advice was not necessarily story direction, but more so protection for the fans.

Man stopped by TSA before boarding flight with weird gun-shaped object
If you have ever been on a flight of any kind, you know there are rigorous security checks to ensure passengers aren't carrying anything suspicious, let alone something illegal. Gun-shaped objects (not surprisingly) fall into those categories.
Recently, the Transportation Security Administration agents at the Newark Liberty Airport in New Jersey came across something in someone's carry-on luggage that was quite strange. The object was gun-shaped and appeared to be a revolver, but before things got really serious, the TSA agents realized it was just a toilet paper roller.
The toilet paper roller looked remarkably similar to a revolver, and as you would imagine, bringing anything on a plane that even resembles a gun is not allowed at all. The TSA agents gave the passenger three options: give it to someone who wasn't boarding the plane, check it into the cargo luggage, or let them confiscate it. The passenger didn't have any attachment to the item and decided to let the TSA agents keep it.

The Witcher TV show has 1 season greenlit, but 7 are mapped out
One of the most highly anticipated Netflix TV shows to release is The Witcher, and while we haven't even got the first season yet the showrunner already has another seven seasons planned out.
Lauren S. Hissrich who spoke to SFX Magazine talked about future seasons of the Witcher TV show, saying "We don't have a second season yet--God willing we will--but right now it's just about, 'How do you set up stories that really capture audiences for years at a time?'" She went on to say that the worst mistake that can be made is throwing all of their production energy into the first season and not thinking about how the characters would progress if there were future seasons.
She continued, "The worst thing we could do is put all of our energies just into season one, and not be thinking about where these characters can grow to." Hissrich also said that the first season will feature a lot of death, and that some of the characters introduced to the audience in season one won't make it to future seasons if there are any.

Delivery robots are being taught to map out their route in real-time
Eventually the human race will have autonomous robots take over all of the tasks we deem mundane. The first of these tasks will most likely be deliveries.
The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) who have partnered with Ford have devised an answer to the question "how do we program autonomous robots to be able to map neighborhoods when they have constantly changing environments?" Engineers at MIT have developed the answer, which is a navigation method that allows robots to map their environment in real-time.
This new method uses machine learning and artificial intelligence algorithms instead of specific GPS coordinates. In the above video you can see this technology in action, and how MIT robots have been taught to add different pieces of information together to form a completed path. Eventually, this technology will be that good that companies like Google and Amazon will want to license the navigation systems, that's if they don't build their own of course.

Death Stranding director Hideo Kojima says he will start making films
If you are a Hideo Kojima fan you would understand that his titles are much like movies, or at least their cut scenes are. But what if the director moved into fully fledged movie production?
During an interview with BBC Newsbeat's Steffan Powell, Hideo Kojima spoke out about how in the future his production studio would be moving towards filmmaking on the large scale. Here's what the the director said, "In the future, Kojima Productions will start making films. If you can do one thing well, then you can do everything well."
Unfortunately, Kojima didn't say exactly when movie production would begin, but he did touch on where he thinks the of gaming will go, his answer - streaming. "I think within the next few years, gaming will move on to streaming. I'm very interested in the new format of game that will appear on there and that's what I want to take on."

Netflix adds 'skip Trump joke' button for Seth Meyer comedy special
Netflix is going to be deploying a special 'skip Trump joke' button to Seth Meyers' upcoming stand-up comedy special for Netflix, Lobby Baby. If you don't want to hear the barrage of Trump jokes from Meyers, you can easily press a button.
A button like this isn't strange to Netflix as they have a very similar if not identical button when a TV show theme is playing, giving streamers the option to skip the intro -- something that comes in handy when you're binge watching a new show on Netflix. This time, it's all for Trump.
First, it sounds strange to implement a 'skip Trump joke' button in a stand-up comedy special on Netflix that will have jokes about President Trump... but the button is a joke in itself. Meyers explained to CNN: "It dawned on me that because it was on Netflix, there would be this opportunity to put in technology that would allow people to skip it. It was a way to build in the response to anyone who would say, 'Oh, let me guess there's going to be jokes about the president.'".

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare data mining finds 38 new maps, 23 modes
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare has barely been out a week and now data mining from the PC version has revealed some upcoming goodies that we could expect to drop in the coming months.
Thanks to a new post on Reddit we know that there are 23 new possible game modes coming to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, and 38 new maps. Yes, you read that first part right -- there are 23 new game modes coming to COD: Modern Warfare. 38 new maps is absolutely huge as well, but 23 new game modes? Wow.
There are a bunch of different modes and maps that sound interesting, with Infinity Ward working on a slew of new 6v6 and 10v10 maps as well as a new map for the huge (at least for the Call of Duty franchise) Ground War game mode. I've got a massive list of the new maps and game modes below.

ASUS ZenFone 6 beats Samsung to the Android 10 upgrade punch
Oh, you thought Samsung would be the first with Google's latest Android 10 operating system on its Galaxy S10, Galaxy S10+, Galaxy Note 10, and Galaxy Note 10+ smartphones -- oh and we can't forget the Galaxy Fold, but nope -- ASUS is the first with its ZenFone 6.
ASUS has updated its interesting ZenFone 6 smartphone with Android 10 in its latest October 2019 security update for the ZenFone 6 smartphone. Android 10 will give the ASUS ZenFone 6 gesture controls like Google's newly-released Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL smartphones which come with Android 10 out of the box.
There's new themes and my personal favorite -- a system-wide dark mode, something I love on my Pixel 3 XL with Android 10, and miss dearly on my Samsung Galaxy S10+ 5G smartphone. The big interesting note here is that ASUS and not Samsung, were first with Android 10 on their smartphone.

Microsoft's new Edge logo looks like a Tide pod, please don't eat it
Microsoft has just made the most radical change to its web browser logo since the introduction of Internet Explorer, with the new Edge browser receiving a new logo.
The original Edge logo that launched with the browser in 2015 had parts of the original Internet Explorer infused into it, but the new one looks like nothing like it -- it resembles a Tide pod if anything. The new logo was discovered inside of a surfing mini game that was hidden inside of the latest Canary versions of Edge.
Edge's slick new logo looks like a wave... get it? You're surfing the web. Just don't try and eat the new Edge logo, okay? Microsoft's brand new Edge browser will launch on January 15, 2020 with the new logo. You can try out the new Edge browser in release candidate form here.

Netflix considers switching from Intel to AMD EPYC in its datacenters
AMD has been making all the right moves lately with its EPYC line of processors, but now a huge name might be changing over from Intel Xeon CPUs to AMD EPYC CPUs in its datacenters: Netflix.
Netflix has servers in place that can hit 100Gbps of bandwidth, but as you can expect from a streaming giant like Netflix it is always looking forward. The next goal from there is a 200Gbps server, so Netflix has the option of going to a dual-socket Intel Xeon set up or a single-socket AMD EPYC solution.
If Netflix wants to hit 200Gbps of bandwidth it's going to need some beefy I/O, with the server infrastructure Netflix has deployed right now being a mix of Intel Xeon CPUs in both Broadwell and Skylake/Cascade Lake families. Broadwell-based Xeons have around 60GB/sec of memory bandwidth and 40 PCIe 3.0 lanes (with 32GB/sec I/O bandwidth).

Microsoft teases new glass-based storage with 1978's Superman on it
Microsoft has teased a new glass-based storage medium in 'Project Silica' that sees the company storing data onto glass plates that will last for 100s of years. The glass has been baked in ovens, dropped into boiling water, heated up in a microwave and even scratched with steel wool -- but like Superman, it's damn near invincible.
The first thing to be stored on the glass-based storage is Superman: The Movie from 1978, with glass square that contains Richard Donner's timeless classic measuring in at 7.5cm x 7.5cm x 2mm and holds 75.6GB of data.
Glass-based storage might seem weird but it makes sense, as archived master copies of films are normally only touched when they're moved out of storage to be remastered. Film isn't the most stable or secure storage method and it's far from a long-term solution, so older movies sitting in Hollywood studios being moved onto glass-based storage like Project Silica makes sense.

Red Dead Redemption 2: RTX 2080 Ti can't hit 4K 60FPS on Ultra
The PC release of Red Dead Redemption 2 is nearly here with NVIDIA releasing a new Red Dead Redemption 2 Game Ready Driver in the new GeForce 441.12 drivers that you can download here.
But what do you need to run the game at 60FPS? Well, NVIDIA has taken some of that work out for you with some benchmarks that show us what we need to run Red Dead Redemption 2 at 1080p, 1440p, and 4K at a silky smooth 60FPS -- and trust me, you'll need some GPU grunt to do it.
1080p 60FPS on High detail will require an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060, while 1440p 60FPS on High requires a higher-end GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER. But it's the glorious 4K resolution at 60FPS that requires the flagship GeForce RTX 2080 Ti... and that 's when the detail levels get knocked from High to Medium-High that it can only hit 60FPS. This is where we need something faster, or NVLink support -- right?!
