NVIDIA's DLSS SDK 2.1 now supports VR gaming titles in Unreal Engine
NVIDIA's RTX 30 Series launch was chock full of exciting details, but you may have noticed one topic that was completely absent from Tuesday's announcement; Jensen Huang didn't say a single thing about virtual reality. But don't worry, RTX 30 series does indeed come with VR advancements; they just weren't center stage.
Following the RTX 30 series launch, NVIDIA hostedQ and A session on Reddit. A handful of company representatives attempted to answer the community's questions about the upcoming graphics cards. One of the questions that came up queried NVIDIA about advancements we might expect from DLSS.
While we won't be seeing a DLSS 3.0 any time soon, NVIDIA released version 2.1 of the DLSS SDK, which includes support for the 8K "ultra-performance mode" on RTX 3090 cards. What NVIDIA didn't say during the launch event is that DLSS 2.1 also brings support for the advanced supersampling technique in VR titles.

Alphacool's leak testing tool pressurizes your loop before you fill it
Alphacool today launched a new product that is sure to help avid water-cooling enthusiasts. The Alphacool Leak Testing Tool enables you to pressure test your loop before filling it up to give you extra reassurance that you won't soak your expensive components when you boot up for the first time.
Alphacool designed the Leak Testing Tool to help you weed out potential problems with your water-cooling setup, such as loose end caps or a bad seal on a hard tube fitting. The last thing you want is cooling fluid all over your expensive parts.
The new Leak Testing Tool works somewhat like a bike bump. It features a hose attached to a hand pump and a pressure gauge that hooks up to a free G1/4 thread in your loop. With a few hand pumps, you can pressurize your loop to the desired level (components from different vendors will have different maximums, so check your instructions). If the pressure holds for 15 to 20 minutes, you can be reasonably confident that your system won't spring a leak when you fill it.

PlayStation 5 could have dual fan setup for maximum thermal reduction
Like any hardware with an ultra-fast PCIe 4.0 SSD and an SoC capable of hitting 4K 60FPS gaming, the PlayStation 5 should generate some serious heat. But a new mock-up design guesses that the console could feature two centrifugal fans to keep it cool under heavy loads.
The mock-up, was made by artist Adrian Mann and is featured in How It Works magazine, isn't an official design from Sony. We've yet to see the PS5 teardown that Mark Cerny promised in March. This design actually seems to make sense insofar as the console's dual-vent array and angled chassis, which is shaped to direct airflow during operation. The heat will flow from left to right when the console is on its side, and bottom to top when it's standing upright.
Sony has gone through great lengths to keep the PS5 quiet and cool. The console and its custom AMD SoC were designed from the ground up with heat in mind. Sony worked with AMD to redesign the SoC's power draw; instead of a varying power consumption that often led to fans revving up due to high heat, the PS5 has a constant power flow and its the GPU and CPU speeds that vary.

CDPR has spent over $121 million on Cyberpunk 2077's development
CD Projekt RED has spent over $120 million on Cyberpunk 2077's development and other unannounced projects, the company confirms in a new corporate report.
Cyberpunk 2077 is an expensive project. CDPR has delayed the game twice now, and has spent tens of millions on the creation of next-gen technologies that allow huge living cities and real-time AI. That kind of dedication requires a big budget, and Cyberpunk 2077 could be the biggest yet.
According to CDPR's latest corporate report, the company has spent 448.513 million PLN ($121.09 million) on in-development projects as of June 30, 2020.

The Witcher 3 made over $120 million during 2015 launch, CDPR says
Witcher 3's May 2015 launch generated tons of revenue for CD Projekt RED, and Cyberpunk 2077 is poised to do the same.
While scanning CD Projekt's latest H1'20 corporate report I found something interesting. A graph in the report highlights how much earnings spike every 4-5 years when a new game is released. The graph clearly shows Witcher 3 managed to break over 462.5 million Polish zloty in Q2'2015, which means the game generated over roughly $120 million in revenue in two month's time (CDPR's Q2 periods end on June 30).
To date the Witcher trilogy has sold over 50 million copies across all platforms.

Why Super Mario 3D All-Stars is only available for 6 months on Switch
COVID-19 has disrupted the world, but the video games market has seen massive gains as consumers stay at home and spend on gaming. Nintendo isn't banking on this trend continuing throughout 2020 and is laying out security measures to protect against uncertainties.
Today Nintendo announced its new Super Mario 3D All-Stars remaster collection will only be sold for six months. After that period it'll be discontinued both on retail shelves and on digital storefronts. This is a targeted business decision from Nintendo and speaks volumes about their conservatism for the FY2021 period. Nintendo is trying to have some sort of insurance to help buffer any kind of major disruption in hardware or software due to COVID-19.
To really understand why they're doing this, we have to take a look at Nintendo's current FY2021 performance.

Nintendo creates artificial shortages of digital games now
No one's happy about the new Super Mario 3D All-Stars remaster collection for one big reason: It'll be discontinued after six months. Even the digital version.
Today Nintendo announced Super Mario 3D All-Stars, a new multi-game collection that packs remastered versions of Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine, and Super Mario Galaxy. There's just one big problem: You have from September to March 2021 to buy the collection. After then both the retail and digital versions will be pulled from the market.
"Super Mario 3D All-Stars will be available as a limited-run retail edition and a digital edition that is available for a limited time until the end of March 2021," Nintendo's website reads.

DOOM Eternal on GeForce RTX 3080 hits 4K 120FPS without a sweat
NVIDIA has some seriously powerful graphics cards with its new Ampere-powered GeForce RTX 30 series, with the GeForce RTX 3080 priced at $699 -- it can handle DOOM Eternal at 4K 120FPS easily. Check that out:
Better yet, NVIDIA did a nice side-by-side comparison that shows the previous Turing-based flagship GeForce RTX 2080 Ti up against the new AMpere-based GeForce RTX 3080. The new RTX 3080 is 50% faster... and it's also 50% cheaper... which is kinda insane.
NVIDIA originally launched the GeForce RTX 2080 Ti at $1199... and right up until the GeForce RTX 30 series reveal was one of the best graphics cards you could buy -- second only to the TITAN RTX for $2499. But now the GeForce RTX 3080 is here and beats both -- for $699.

No, you don't need a new PSU for the new GeForce RTX 3090, RTX 3080
If you were worried that slick new 12-pin PCIe power connector on NVIDIA's new GeForce RTX 3090 and GeForce RTX 3080 Founders Edition graphics card required a new PSU -- fear not.
A new diagram from NVIDIA shows you that you do not need a new PSU, as the new GeForce RTX 3090 and RTX 3080 Founders Edition graphics cards will include a 12-pin to dual 8-pin PCIe adapter in the box. You will not need a new PSU though.
Warning: do not attempt to use a single 8-pin PCIe power connector into the dual 8-pin to 12-pin adapter, you will require both of them connected in order to power the card up.

Lenovo teases GeForce RTX 3070 SUPER, after teasing RTX 3070 Ti
Lenovo doesn't seem to be in too much trouble over the leaking of the GeForce RTX 3070 Ti graphics card yesterday, but now they're doing it again: the GeForce RTX 3070 SUPER with 8GB GDDR6.
The purported GeForce RTX 3070 has 8GB of GDDR6, which is a huge drop from the 16GB of GDDR6 on the purported GeForce RTX 3070 Ti -- and the same as the regular RTX 3070. The new card was spotted in the upcoming Lenovo Legion T5 desktop PC.
I would take this with a grain of salt as I'm sure NVIDIA hasn't been providing the exact nomenclature of its graphics cards until closer to the last minute -- so maybe this is some guess work by Lenovo, and made its way online.

Pimax is getting ready to finally ship stretch goal rewards
Pimax is quite a bit behind schedule in doling out its stretch goal rewards to its Kickstarter backers. People who put money down for a Pimax 5K or Pimax 8K headset in late 2017 are still waiting for their promised accessories, but it looks like the wait is almost over. Pimax's September progress update revealed that stretch goal boxes are going out in the coming weeks.

The fundraiser was such a success that it brought in more than $4 million for Pimax. As part of the campaign incentives, Pimax offered a handful of stretch goals that would give backers additional value if the fundraiser reached certain milestones.
Pimax's stretch goals included several value-adds, including an extra face cushion, a mechanical head strap with built-in headphones, a prescription lens frame, cooling fans, a $100 coupon towards a future wireless kit, three pieces of content, and an eye-tracking module. Black Ops Cold War next-gen port may come to PS5 before Xbox Series X
Activision's website seems to hint the PlayStation 5 version of Black Ops Cold War's next-gen optimizations will release before the Xbox Series X.
Black Ops Cold War is getting next-gen SKUs and cross-gen upgrades, and will be fully optimized with ray-traced visuals, higher frame rates, ultra-fast loading times, and higher-end performance not on PS4 or Xbox One. But these features might come first to PlayStation 5 owners. This is particularly interesting given the Xbox Series X may release on November 5, whereas the PS5 is expected to launch later.
While nothing has been confirmed, and it's possible Black Ops could launch on both PS5 and Xbox Series X at the same time, the Call of Duty website seems to hint the PS5 version could come first. "The PlayStation 5 version of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is scheduled for release Holiday 2020 in the U.S. and Canada, and in late 2020 for the rest of the world. The title is also scheduled for release later this year on the Xbox Series X," reads the website.
