NVIDIA says it'll be 'a few more months' before GeForce RTX 30 stock

Anthony Garreffa | Graphics Cards | Nov 19, 2020 11:27 PM CST

Well, Christmas is ruined -- NVIDIA has just admitted that it will be many months before we see more GeForce RTX 30 series stock across the world.

NVIDIA says it'll be 'a few more months' before GeForce RTX 30 stock

The news that creates tears worldwide came during a recent earnings call with investors, where NVIDIA Chief Financial Officer Colette Kress said: "Given industry-wide capacity constraints and long cycle times, it may take a few more months for product availability to catch up with demand".

I wrote an exclusive story back in very early September 2020 that "no stock will be available till the end of the year". I added that the first wave of GeForce RTX 30 stock would be "small, very, very small -- possibly the smallest launch in many years".

Mad Catz developed new mechanical switch technology for its new mouse

Kevin Carbotte | Peripherals | Nov 19, 2020 11:07 PM CST

Mad Catz this week released an upcoming gaming mouse called the M.O.J.O. M1 that features a new kind of switch that operates 60% faster than other mechanical mouse switches.

Mad Catz developed new mechanical switch technology for its new mouse

Mad Catz new M.O.J.O. M1 is the first mouse to feature the company's new DAKOTA mechanical switches. These high-speed switches feature a new signal detection technology, enabling signal response times as low as 2ms. Mad Catz said that's as much as 60% faster than other mechanical switches.

In addition to offering extremely rapid response time, the M.O.J.O. M1 gaming mouse is extremely light. Mad Catz said it employed "avian nest design concepts" while designing the shell of the mouse. It features what Mad Catz calls an "asymmetric hollow-pyramid design," which saves weight. The mouse weighs just 70 grams.

Sony boss: no 'generation-defining' PlayStation 5 games until 2022

Anthony Garreffa | Gaming | Nov 19, 2020 10:31 PM CST

In a new interview with Russian News Agency TASS, Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Jim Ryan had some interesting things to say about the new PlayStation 5 console.

Sony boss: no 'generation-defining' PlayStation 5 games until 2022

We might have some great PS5 launch games like Spider-Man: Miles Morales and others, but that doesn't mean that the PS4 will be forgotten. Sony is all about the "believes in generations" feels, meaning they won't just abandon PS4 games now that the PS5 is here.

Ryan explained: "There are around 114 million PS4s in the world, the number of those who transfer [to PS5 initially], if you keep that in mind, is a small number. But for us, the PS4 community is going to remain incredibly important certainly for 2020, 2021 and 2022. Because in those three years, that will be the larger PlayStation community".

NVIDIA GeForce NOW game streaming is now available on Apple iOS

Anthony Garreffa | Gaming | Nov 19, 2020 9:54 PM CST

NVIDIA has a surprise announcement, with its GeForce NOW game streaming service now streaming games to iOS... but you can't download it from the App Store.

NVIDIA GeForce NOW game streaming is now available on Apple iOS

Why? Because it breaks Apple's guidelines so NVIDIA went around that and is blasting games through to GeForce NOW through Safari, Apple's own web browser. Just like it does with their Chromebook client, with the iOS-based GeForce NOW service currently in 'beta'.

Phil Eisler, general manager for GeForce Now explains: "It'll be brought directly to the browser through a webpage similar to our Chromebook client".

Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy's Edge available now on Quest

Kevin Carbotte | Extended Reality (XR) | Nov 19, 2020 9:13 PM CST

The Star Wars franchise has always been part of virtual reality. The Trials on Tatooine experience was one of the first pieces of content available for the Rift and Vive back in 2016. Since then, we've seen several new experiences on many VR platforms, including PC VR, standalone VR, and even exclusive arcade content.

Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy's Edge available now on Quest

Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy's Edge is ILMxLAB's latest VR experience, and this one looks to be a much more ambitious project than past endeavours. The game takes place "hundreds of years" before the events of The Phantom Menace, on a remote planet called Batuu. In this game, you play a droid repair technician who needs to escape the clutches of ship pirates.

Later you'll take on the role of Jedi Padawan Ady Sun'Zee, who gets to fight alongside Master Yoda himself. You'll also meet C-3P0 voice by none other than Frank Oz, who voices the movie's character.

Kevin Carbotte | Extended Reality (XR) | Nov 19, 2020 8:10 PM CST

Cybershoes today launched its Kickstarter campaign to help fund the production of Cybershoes for Oculus Quest. The company was looking for $30,000 to get the ball rolling, and it crushed that goal within a matter of hours.

Cybershoes for Quest is fully funded on Kickstarter

Cybershoes, if you're not aware, is a physical locomotion solution for virtual reality games. The Cybershoes system includes a pedestal seat with a 360-degree swivel rotation, a circular carpet to place under the chair, and a particular sandal-like peripheral with rollers on the bottom. The wireless version also includes a receiver box that mounds to the Quest headset.

The Cybershoes peripheral has existed for a while for PC VR. Still, last month the company announced that it would create a wireless version of Cybershoes for the standalone Oculus Quest. Earlier today, the campaign launched, and in less than 10-hours, it had accumulated the $30,000 needed to fund the project.

Cyberpunk 2077 final skill trees and character stats revealed

Today CD Projekt RED revealed new Cyberpunk 2077 gameplay and showcased a bunch of content that'll be in the final game. The footage highlights some new skill info as well as the five stats: Cool, Reflexes, Body, Intelligence, and Technical Ability. These stats are basically like governing attributes (think about Morrowind) that each have their own perk trees.

For example, the Reflexes state contains perks associated with each weapon type: Handguns, Rifles, and Blades. These trees contain passive unlockables.

IO Interactive today announced they're developing a new game based around the 007 franchise. The game, codenamed Project 007, will be an origin story prequel that explores James Bond's early past, and it won't be adapted or based from a film. The video game's story will be 100% original.

Project 007 is being developed with IO Interactive's high-end proprietary Glacier engine, which has powered all of its Hitman games. Glacier is also updated for next-generation console hardware and will push the new 7nm SoCs to their limits. MGM, EON Productions, and Delphi are publishing the game alongside IO.

Razer's new Wolverine V2 brings tactile precision to Xbox Series X

Derek Strickland | Gaming | Nov 19, 2020 4:12 PM CST

The PlayStation 5 has the Dualsense, but now the Xbox Series X/S consoles have the Razer Wolverine V2.

Razer's new Wolverine V2 brings tactile precision to Xbox Series X

Razer today announced the $100 wired USB Wolverine V2 controller that brings enhanced precision and control to the new Xbox console lineup. The big selling point of the Wolverine V2 is the mecha-tactile buttons, which reduces actuation by up to 35% compared to existing controllers. The result is more crisp and noticeable button presses and less slip-ups during tense game moments.

One interesting feature is the Hair Trigger mode. This essentially makes the triggers incredibly sensitive, allowing you to shoot more with a more gentle trigger pull. It's ideal for FPS games or maybe even racing titles.

PlayStation 5 supports external USB mics, USB headsets with soundcards

Derek Strickland | Gaming | Nov 19, 2020 3:24 PM CST

The PS5 can use lots of external USB devices including mice, keyboards, and even wired mics and headsets with sound cards.

PlayStation 5 supports external USB mics, USB headsets with soundcards

The PS5 supports USB accessories like keyboards and mice (Bluetooth or otherwise), but what about audio? Sadly the PS5 won't transmit audio through Bluetooth. But USB is a different story. On a lark, I decided to test this out and hooked up a Blue Yeti mic to the PS5. Not only did the PS5 recognize the Blue Yeti as a microphone to record audio, but it also routed the audio output to the mic itself. It recognized and utilized the mic just like a computer would.

The same is true for wired USB headsets with built-in soundcards. I hooked up a HyperX Cloud II headset to the PS5 and not only did it transmit the audio through the headphones, but the PS5 actually recognized the soundcard and allowed Surround Sound 7.1 output.

MSI reveals Radeon RX 6800 XT GAMING X TRIO, boosts up to 2285MHz

Anthony Garreffa | Graphics Cards | Nov 18, 2020 11:56 PM CST

MSI has just unveiled a duo of new Big Navi graphics cards, with the Radeon RX 6800 XT GAMING X TRIO and Radeon RX 6800 GAMING X TRIO announced. We have the flagship Radeon RX 6800 XT GAMING X TRIO below:

MSI reveals Radeon RX 6800 XT GAMING X TRIO, boosts up to 2285MHz

We are looking at a chunky 2.5-slot design, triple-fan TRI-FROZR 2 cooler, and dual 8-pin PCIe power connectors. For all intents and purposes this is identical to the reference Radeon RX 6800 XT but MSI is overclocking the Navi 21 GPU by a further 35MHz for a GPU boost of up to 2285MHz.

There's also the Radeon RX 6800 GAMING X that is nearly identical to the higher-end RX 6800 XT GAMING X TRIO brother, but has its GPU boost clock higher than AMD's own reference Radeon RX 6800 by 50MHz -- a nice bump before you can try some manual OC.

AMD's new Radeon RX 6800 XT breaks HWBOT's 3DMark FireStrike record

Anthony Garreffa | Graphics Cards | Nov 18, 2020 10:00 PM CST

AMD has now unleashed its new RDNA 2 architecture, powering the new Radeon RX 6800 XT and Radeon RX 6800 graphics cards -- and world records are now being broken.

AMD's new Radeon RX 6800 XT breaks HWBOT's 3DMark FireStrike record

Overclocker 'Lucky_n00b' used his Radeon RX 6800 XT sample to topple the previous HWBOT 3DMark FireStrike record, beating out the previous champion in the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090. The Radeon RX 6800 XT was overclocked to 2650MHz, powered with a new Zen 3-based Ryzen 9 5950X processor.

The Ryzen 9 5950X processor was overclocked to 5.4GHz and cooled by LN2 cooling, but to be clear just the CPU was chilled with LN2 -- not the Radeon RX 6800 XT, which was using its stock reference cooler. Lucky_n00b was able to achieve a huge 47932 graphics score, beating out the ASUS ROG STRIX RTX 3090 OC by (just) 225 points.

Oculus might be exploring a 120Hz mode for the Quest 2 headset

Kevin Carbotte | Extended Reality (XR) | Nov 18, 2020 9:28 PM CST

Version 23 of the Oculus Quest platform software gives developers the ability to run games at 90Hz on Quest 2, but that might not be the cap for the hardware. John Carmack hinted that there could be a 120Hz mode in the future.

Oculus might be exploring a 120Hz mode for the Quest 2 headset

Oculus just started rolling out v23 of its platform software, which introduces a handful of new features, not least the highly-anticipated 90Hz mode for the Quest 2 headset. Once you have the latest version of the OS, you can run the Quest 2 in either 72Hz or 90Hz modes.

Initially, the faster refresh rate is only useful with Oculus Link as no Quest 2 games yet support the new refresh rate. However, developers are free to enable the speedier framerate in their games, and several developers are shipping updates soon.

HP Reverb G2 is now backordered into next year

HP started shipping the first round of Reverb G2 Windows Mixed Reality headsets to early pre-order holders earlier this month. The company previously said that customers whoordered before October would get their kit in November, while orders placed later than that could be waiting until December for their headset.

An update from Connection, HP's US fulfilment partner, today reveals that orders placed before October 25 would arrive in November or December. The update wasn't clear about orders placed between October 25 and today, but it said that if you place an order now, you likely won't get it this year. Connection expects to begin fulfilling new orders in January 2021.
