Kevin Carbotte | Extended Reality (XR) | Nov 16, 2020 9:55 PM CST

Bigscreen added a green screen room to its list of virtual environments so you can use your virtual avatar for anything.

Bigscreen's new green screen room lets you put your avatar in anything

Bigscreen was one of the first applications to launch on consumer VR when the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive first hit the market in 2016, and to this day, the company behind it continues to add innovative new features.

Bigscreen started as a virtual-environment that you could use to share your computer screen with up to three other people. These days you can do things like taking in a Hollywood film at a virtual theatre with people from around the world. The latest update adds a green screen room and the freedom to use it creatively.

Here's the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 Ti, faster than the RTX 2080 SUPER

Anthony Garreffa | Graphics Cards | Nov 16, 2020 9:32 PM CST

NVIDIA is preparing to launch its new GeForce RTX 3060 Ti graphics card, something that should be launched at under $400 and offer performance that beats the GeForce RTX 2080 SUPER.

Here's the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 Ti, faster than the RTX 2080 SUPER

The new GeForce RTX 3060 Ti has been detailed in new leaks from our friends at VideoCardz, which is reportedly a slide that was sent to the press. There weren't any performance numbers apart from relative performance comparisons between the RTX 3060 Ti and RTX 2060 SUPER and RTX 2080 SUPER -- VideoCardz measured the bars and has provided some rough performance numbers from the charts.

NVIDIA's desk compares rasterizing performance, ray tracing performance, and rendering performance -- of which the RTX 3060 Ti kicks some ass across the board -- but really dominating in rendering performance thanks to the advancements under Ampere and the GDDR6X memory.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War breaks global franchise sales record

Anthony Garreffa | Gaming | Nov 16, 2020 8:26 PM CST

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War just launched last Friday, but the game has already set a new global franchise sales record for the most digital units sold on launch day -- Activision Blizzard would be celebrating for sure.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War breaks global franchise sales record

Blizzard executive Anna Malmhake said in a statement: "Friday's release of Black Ops Cold War set a new record as the highest first day digital sales worldwide in franchise history. Thank you to Call of Duty players everywhere".

"Launch is just the start This new title is releasing into the largest and most engaged Call of Duty community ever. AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT 'terrible' launch stock, as bad as RTX 3080

Anthony Garreffa | Graphics Cards | Nov 16, 2020 7:30 PM CST

AMD's new Radeon RX 6800 XT and Radeon RX 6800 graphics cards are nearly here, with my unboxing of Big Navi right here -- but the bigger question is will you actually be able to buy one at launch?

AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT 'terrible' launch stock, as bad as RTX 3080

NVIDIA has had a horrible launch with its GeForce RTX 30 series graphics cards, selling out worldwide with stock trickling in at times. But it appears AMD will be going through the same thing which isn't a shocker, where Radeon RX 6000 series graphics cards will be hard, if not impossible to find this year.

Now Australian YouTubers HardwareUnboxed have said: "(Availability) of these cards will be a hot topic when they release. So technically they are being released on the 18th (that's when you are going to see our review) [...] but I'm not really expecting you to buy one. I have spoken with quite a few retailers and stock seems pretty terrible, like RTX 3080 terrible. It will differ from region to region (I have only spoken to Australian retailers)".

PlayStation 5 doesn't support Bluetooth audio devices

Derek Strickland | Gaming | Nov 16, 2020 6:20 PM CST

We're currently testing out the PS5 in preparation for our review, and apparently the system doesn't support Bluetooth audio devices.

PlayStation 5 doesn't support Bluetooth audio devices

Just like the PS4, you can't hook up headsets or external speakers via Bluetooth on the PS5. It's a big bummer for anyone who has a pair of quick headphones they want to hook up, including Sony's own premium WF-1000XM3 noise-cancelling Bluetooth headphones.

Luckily the DualSense does have a 3.5mm headphone jack so you can plug in existing headsets into the console. I was using the HyperX Cloud II headset and it worked great.

New Bethesda games may be Xbox timed exclusives with exclusive content

Derek Strickland | Gaming | Nov 16, 2020 3:24 PM CST

Microsoft exec Tim Stuart confirms PlayStation gamers will still be able to play future Bethesda games. But they may have to wait, and some content may not be available.

New Bethesda games may be Xbox timed exclusives with exclusive content

Microsoft spent $7.5 billion to buy Bethesda for one reason: Content. Xbox is now a service-first ecosystem, and content drives services. How and where that content is distributed makes all the difference. Luckily for PS gamers, now-Microsoft-owned franchises like Doom, Elder Scrolls, and Fallout won't be 100% exclusive to Xbox. Microsoft confirms these games are still coming to PlayStation consoles.

But how, when, and in what capacity are still unknown. At the Jefferies Interactive Entertainment Virtual Conference, Microsoft Chief Financial Officer Tim Stuart strongly hints that new Bethesda games like Starfield and The Elder Scrolls VI could come to Xbox consoles first, and PlayStation later. It may not stop there. Bethesda games could get extra features and content on Xbox and PC that are not available on PC, possibly including in-game performance optimizations and items.

This all-black PlayStation 5 looks great, when will Sony make them?

Derek Strickland | Gaming | Nov 16, 2020 1:32 PM CST

Gamers are starting to customize their PS5 consoles, and it's amazing what a simple color swap can do.

This all-black PlayStation 5 looks great, when will Sony make them?

The PS5's current two-tone color style has fans somewhat divided. Fans like me enjoy the new exotic and alien design, but others prefer the historical all-black chassis first ushered in by the PS2. So what would the PS5 look like if it were midnight black? Pretty snazzy.

PS5 owners have painted their consoles and controllers in matching shades of jet black. Reddit user Yazuka83 painted their DualSense black and even swapped in the DualShock 4's D-Pad and colored face buttons for some extra flair. The result is union of last-gen with current-gen form factor and design.

Like any game these days, Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War commands some serious storage real estate. It takes up to 133GB of space on the PS5, and can take up to 250GB on PC with Warzone installed. Gamers are simply going to run out of storage at this rate. Luckily Western Digital has you covered with its new Black Ops line of WD_BLACK storage.

The new Call of Duty WD_BLACK storage is a mix of external and internal devices. There's a custom P10 HDD with 2TB of space, a P50 SSD with 1TB of space that can hit 2GB/sec speeds, and the 1TB SN850 NVMe SSD with its monstrous PCIe 4.0 speeds.

Here's how to manually eject a disc on PS5

Derek Strickland | Gaming | Nov 16, 2020 11:24 AM CST

Got a disc stuck in your new PlayStation 5? Here's a quick way to pop it out.

Here's how to manually eject a disc on PS5

Manually ejecting a disc on the PS5 is similar to the PS4 and PS4 Pro. You'll need a screwdriver to turn a screw and push the disc out. Just like the base 2013 PS4, you'll have to pop off part of the system's covering.

To get your disc out you'll want to first lay the PS5 on its side with the disc drive facing up. Remove the face plate by slightly pressing left-to-right on the cover. The curved white collar should be on the left side as you push, and the bottom of the console on the right. The plate should pop right off.

WTF: GALAX teases GeForce RTX 30 WTF (Work the Frames) series

Anthony Garreffa | Graphics Cards | Nov 15, 2020 10:30 PM CST

You might not be able to buy a GeForce RTX 30 series graphics card anywhere on the planet right now, but that's not stopping AIB partners from releasing new models.

WTF: GALAX teases GeForce RTX 30 WTF (Work the Frames) series

GALAX has just unveiled its new GeForce RTX 30 series Work the Frames (or WTF) which doesn't have any NVLink or power connectors in its simplified form, unveiled during a virtual expo. The new GALAX GeForce RTX 30 WTF series features a black shroud, with translucent fans -- it definitely looks great from the pics.

You can see there's a lot of RGB lighting going on here, with a triple-fan cooler and 2.2-slot design with RGB lightning not just on the front of the card -- but also around on the back, too. Check it out:

NVIDIA has its own 'Smart Access Memory' like AMD's new RDNA 2 coming

Anthony Garreffa | Graphics Cards | Nov 15, 2020 9:29 PM CST

AMD is about to launch its new RDNA 2 architecture that powers the Radeon RX 6800 XT and Radeon RX 6800 graphics cards, with soemthing NVIDIA doesn't have: Smart Access Memory.

NVIDIA has its own 'Smart Access Memory' like AMD's new RDNA 2 coming

AMD's new Smart Access Memory (SAM) requires a new RDNA 2-based Radeon RX 6000 series graphics card, mixed with the Zen 3-based Ryzen 5000 series processors and X570 motherboard. You can read all about AMD Smart Access Memory right here.

But now NVIDIA is chiming in with some news, with GamersNexus tweeting that NVIDIA said regarding SAM: "The capability for resizable BAR is part of the PCI Express spec. NVIDIA hardware supports this functionality and will enable it on Ampere GPUs through future software updates. We have it working internally and are seeing similar performance results".

Facebook, Twitter exodus sees Parler use skyrocket, #1 on app stores

You might not have heard of Parler, but it's an alterate social media platform that is similar to Facebook and Twitter but calls itself "viewpoint neutral".

Facebook, Twitter exodus sees Parler use skyrocket, #1 on app stores

Well, Parler use has exploded post-US elections on November 3, 2020 -- with Parler being the #1 app on both the Apple iOS and Google Play app stores with over 1 million downloads in the days after the election. People wanted a new home where they weren't being censored, with many popular conservatives moving from Facebook and Twitter onto Parler, driving up usage.

Parler opened in 2018 by John Matze and Jared Thomson who were sick of the "ideological suppression" by the technology companies in the US. But the number Parler are pulling in are significant, with Matze saying Parler added 4.5 million in a span of just 5 days.

New Cyberpunk 2077 footage shows off the dark futurism of Night City

New Cyberpunk 2077 footage shows off the dark futurism of Night City

New never-before-seen footage of Cyberpunk 2077 shows the game will be well worth the wait. The footage comes from German website Das Erste and is woven into a company profile interview. There's lots of footage we've already seen thrown into the mix, too.

The gameplay is centered mostly on the environs of Night City. There's lots of dark shadowy areas of the metropolis we haven't seen, complemented by brightly-lit city squares, marketplaces, and futuristic avenues with cars flying overhead. It all looks like something out of a Blade Runner fan's dream.

Call of Duty Warzone hits 120FPS on Xbox Series X, PS5 locked to 60FPS

Derek Strickland | Gaming | Nov 15, 2020 3:17 PM CST

Warzone, one of the biggest games on the planet right now, currently performs better on the Xbox Series X.

Call of Duty Warzone hits 120FPS on Xbox Series X, PS5 locked to 60FPS

According to Digital Foundry, Call of Duty Warzone can now hit up to 120FPS on Xbox Series X on compatible HDMI 2.1 VRR displays. Warzone is still locked to 60FPS on PS5, however. The PS5 currently runs the PS4 version of Warzone in backward compatibility mode. It's possible the Xbox Series X version has been optimized in ways the PS5 version hasn't been yet (Warzone's MS Store listing directly mentions 120 FPS whereas the PS Store says it's still a PS4 title).

Warzone caps out at around ~115 FPS on Xbox Series X, and apparently there's no way to change the refresh rates for Warzone on PS5. The console has a global Performance Mode that targets optimum frame rates for games but there's no manual console-wide adjustments for FPS.

Phil Spencer: Xbox is driven by player numbers, not console sales

Derek Strickland | Gaming | Nov 15, 2020 2:18 PM CST

Microsoft cares most about software sales, services, and engagement. These metrics are the life's blood of Xbox...not console sales.

Phil Spencer: Xbox is driven by player numbers, not console sales

In a recent interview with The Guardian, Phil Spencer re-confirms something we've known for some time: Hardware purchases are in the back seat of Microsoft's big picture. Right now Xbox is a service, not a console--a service that bridges consoles, PCs, and mobile phones with a galaxy of games, subscriptions, and cross-platform social features. Thanks to the Xbox One's bad rep in 2013, Microsoft has diversified far beyond consoles to become a service titan. It's done very well for them.d

Spencer re-affirms this position in the interview, and says Microsoft won't give actual Xbox console sales figures ever again. The spotlight is now focused on player count, engagement, and revenues from subscriptions and services like Game Pass instead of hardware sales.

It's WAY too easy to accidentally switch to another game on PS5

Derek Strickland | Gaming | Nov 15, 2020 1:04 PM CST

Sony made it way too easy to interrupt your PS5 gaming sessions by accidentally launching a new game.

It's WAY too easy to accidentally switch to another game on PS5

The PlayStation 5 doesn't support quick resume. Only one game be active at once. Unlike the Xbox Series X/S, the PS5 can't have multiple save states of games running at the same time. That means if you're playing Assassin's Creed Valhalla, and decide to switch to Bugsnax, your Valhalla session is now closed.

Conversely, Series X would save both sessions so you could swap between them without losing progress or closing your game (the console will also overwrite resume slots without warnings, though).

I fought a psycho killer nun in Assassin's Creed Valhalla

Ubisoft Montreal has peppered all sorts of interesting world events throughout 9th Century England...but this killer nun takes the cake.

I fought a psycho killer nun in Assassin's Creed Valhalla

Exploring the newer Assassin's Creed games is like opening a present. You never know what's inside. There's all sorts of surprises that lay in wait like an emotional little girl named Mae who doesn't believe her father is dead. There's also a touching moment where you find camaraderie with children of an enemy Viking faction. And there's also the killer nun in East Anglia that dishes out brutal penitence in the name of the Lord.

While scouting East Anglia I came across a decrepit old monastery called Edmund's Hope. There was someone praying at the giant cross and speaking holy liturgy. Lots of dead bodies and gallons of blood lay around the figure along with countless swords. The holyperson was simultaneously asking the Lord for forgiveness and offering up "heathen souls".

Unity is now publicly traded, and that means its quarterly earnings reports can be seen by everyone. In its first public Q3 brief, Unity confirmed Fall Guys has sold over 10 million copies on Steam. Fall Guys is made by Unity, so the engine-makers are eager to tout these milestones.

To add perspective, this means Fall Guys has 3 million copies from August to November. That's about 750,000 copies sold per month. At 10 million sales, Fall Guys now rivals Stardew Valley, the gigantic indie farm simulator that's released on pretty much every modern gaming platform available. The numbers also see Fall Guys beating some AAA games like Final Fantasy XV, Battlefield V, and Resident Evil 7.
