New Metro game is next-gen exclusive, will focus on singleplayer first
4A Games promises that singleplayer story-driven gameplay will remain front and center in the next Metro game.
Right now 4A Games is working on a new Metro game with multiplayer. Even with the new MP focus, the devs say singleplayer quality comes first and the new project will remain as authentic to the franchise's dramatic scope as possible.
"We're committed to delivering a great story driven single player experience; this is what the Metro series is founded on," 4A Games said in an update post.

Square Enix hasn't made its money back on Avengers, but that's normal
Square Enix confirms that Avengers hasn't sold enough to make up development costs of the game. This is actually pretty normal for the games industry.
In a recent earnings presentation, Square Enix President Yousuke Matsuda says Marvel's Avengers isn't selling as well as the company hoped. Avengers missed its initial sales targets at launch and hasn't yet made enough revenue to recoup dev costs. Right now, Avengers hasn't technically been profitable.
The Avenger sales miss in Q2 has led to a ~7 billion yen ($67 million) operating loss of the HD Games sub-segment of Square Enix's Digital Entertainments segment.

Cyberpunk 2077 looks great on PS5 even without next-gen optimizations
CD Projekt RED just dropped new Cyberpunk 2077 footage showing the game running on both PS4 and PS5...and it looks pretty good.
Cyberpunk 2077 will obviously shine brightest on PC thanks to RTX support and the full brunt of NVIDIA's new RTX 30 series GPUs. But what about consoles? While Cyberpunk 2077 won't launch with PS5 and Xbox Series X upgrades on December 10, the game is still a looker on current-gen hardware like the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X.
The new gameplay footage takes us through the Nomad character origin story and sees V. and Jackie delivering contraband through the border. The Nomad's live out in the no man's land outside the city in tight-knit clans, and cross over to the city for resources and to do some mercenary work. The themes are pretty apt and highlight the deep RPG aspects, but the gameplay seems marginally different on PS5.

Custom Radeon RX 6800 launch a BIG mess, WAY less units than Ampere!
AMD launched its new Big Navi graphics cards a couple of weeks ago, with our review on the Radoen RX 6800 XT here and our review on the Radeon RX 6800 here -- what about custom cards?
Well, I've got 3 different AIBs with a custom Radeon RX 6800 XT on their way to me -- with 1 of those turning up tomorrow, hopefully. I'm not the only reviewer without a card it seems, as it is more common than I thought with a trickle of cards making it into the hands of reviewers.
But it's not only the lack of cards for reviewers, it's the fact that they are not available to buy anywhere right now -- and there's an even bigger reason for that: some reviewers aren't even being provided with final pricing for the custom Radeon RX 6800 XT. It's hard to write your final thoughts and recommendations without pricing.

Square Enix now allows developers to work from home, permanently
Square Enix is fully embracing the world of working from home, and while COVID-19 was the driving force -- it also wants to use the WFM policy to increase efficiency and morale.
The company explains it all in a lengthy press release, with Square Enix President and Representative Director Yosuke Matsuda writes that the company will "officially offer a permanent work-from-home program to all executive officers and employees as of December 1, 2020".
Instead of other companies that need to have their core business done on-site and simply estbalish work from home routines, Square Enix is stepping right into it. The company will "establish it as a permanent and core program among the working styles it accommodates. In so doing, the Company hopes not only to create a flexible and diverse working environment, but also to further bolster productivity and help employees achieve the optimal work-life balance".

Chinese TSMC competitor HSMC shut, ex-CEO says it ran out of money
Aaaaand Wuhan Hongxin Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (HSMC) is done -- they've folded under strain, with the company now insolvent.
Ex-CEO and head of R&D of HSMC, Chiang Shang-yi, told EE Times over a LinkedIn message: "Investors ran short of cash. I got caught by surprise. It's over now, and I'm back home in California". Back in August 2020 you could see the wheels buckling under considerable pressure, where I explained that HSMC was a mess.
But the $20 billion plant just couldn't muster the ability to fire up and begin to take a whimper of a swing at TSMC, with HSMC now under the control of the state assets supervision and administration commission for the Dongxihu district government in Wuhan.

Flight Simulator's new update for US landmarks is a Thanksgiving gift
Microsoft has just pushed out an update for Flight Simulator, with the new v1.11.5.0, World Update II: US update having a full set of release notes you can read in detail here.
The developers have added detail to four US airports, and a sprawling list of US landmarks that include the White House, Mount Rushmore, Fort Knox, Hoover Dam, the Las Vegas Strip (at night), and much more. I've got the list for you down below.
We also have some performance and stability added to Flight Simulator, with optimization on photogrammetry loading, while offline air traffic are now "properly removed at a long distance. This caused a performance degradation over time".

Amazon confirms The Expanse Season 6, should drop in 2022
Amazon Studios has just announced early renewal for Season 6, which will be its last season -- just on the edge of Season 5 debuting on Amazon Prime in December 16.
Deadline reports that production on Season 6 of The Expanse will begin on January 20, 2021 -- but the start date could change given the on-going COVID-19 pandemic affecting shooting schedules. The Expanse started off on Syfy, but was cancelled in 2018 -- after which fans launched a huge Save Our Show campaign and Amazon bought the show.
The Expanse Season 4 was released in December 2019 as an Amazon Original Series, with Season 5 debuting on December 16 -- not too far away now!

VR Cover finally released its Quest 2 cushion replacement
After a month of delays, VR Cover has finally opened sales for its highly anticipated Oculus Quest 2 cushion replacement system. If you order one now, you should have it in time for the holidays.
VR Cover is calling the Facial Interface & Foam Replacement for Quest 2 its most exciting product yet. We're not sure how to quantify that, but we're sure it will sell like crazy. VR Cover has been around for longer than consumer VR headsets and it's easily the top name in sanitary VR upgrades. VR Cover's recognition, combined with its official partnership with Oculus, should entice many people to upgrade their Quest 2 headset.
As the name suggests, the VR Cover Facial Interface & Foam Replacement for Quest 2 is an aftermarket replacement for the factory cushion interface. The Quest 2 doesn't have a Velcro-attached cushion; it has a removable plastic bracket, not unlike that of the Rift, with a glued-on cushion. As such, the VR Cover replacement includes the whole plastic bracket interface. VR Cover's solution adds a Velcro layer that allows you to swap cushions as needed.

ASUS GeForce RTX 3060 Ti TUF Gaming OC smiles for the camera
NVIDIA and its AIB partners are preparing for the impending release of the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti, with the new custom ASUS RTX 3060 Ti TUF Gaming smiling for the camera. Check it out:
ASUS appears to be going with a triple-fan cooler on the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti TUF Gaming, with a single 8-pin PCIe power connector required. You still have a chunky 2.5-slot card, so I would've liked to have seen a thinner dual-slot card with a single 8-pin connector, that would've been nice.
We should expect some higher clocks than NVIDIA's own GeForce RTX 3060 Ti Founders Edition card, but expect the ROG STRIX variant to have even higher clocks. As for pricing, we should expect a little over $400 when it launches next month.

Covid killed Intel's mixed reality Hollywood studio dreams
The global pandemic has claimed another business victim: it forced Intel to shut down its 10,000 square foot mixed reality film studio. It was the biggest and most ambitious project of its kind globally, and it's no longer a thing.
Intel opened Intel Studios in 2018 and operated the facility for a little over two years. It was a 10,000 square foot green screen dome designed for capturing volumetric video. Intel equipped the facility with over 100 8K cameras and an Intel-powered server farm to process the captured footage.
Intel Studios played host to several projects in the two years it operated, including music videos and stage performances. The resulting footage was used to create immersive AR and VR experiences. Sadly, Intel's corporate leadership set a mandate that Intel Studios must become self-sustainable and profitable, and the current global situation has made that impossible.

So, a strange MONOLITH has just appeared deep in the Utah desert
A mysterious monolith has been discovered deep in the Utah desert, discovered by a sheep-counting expedition flying a helicopter over it and seeing the huge structure standing there.
The Utah Department of Public Safety issued a statement on its website, explaining that it discovered the monolith on November 18, 2020 when the Utah Department of Public Safety Aero Bureau was collaborating with the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources on counting horn sheep while in a helicopter, in a particular portion of southeastern Utah.
On this mission, the team spotted "an unusual object" and then landed their helicopter nearby. The Utah DPS explain: "The crew members found a metal monolith installed in the ground in a remote area of red rock. The crew said there was no obvious indication of who might have put the monolith there".

Far Cry 6 will have AMD-ready Ray Tracing, FidelityFX CAS, and more
Assassin's Creed: Valhalla is an AMD Ryzen and AMD Radeon friendly game, with Ubisoft working closely with AMD on optimizing it for Ryzen and Radeon products -- and now it's time for Far Cry 6.
Far Cry 6 will benefit from ray tracing (we don't know any specifics yet), AMD FidelityFX CAS (Contrast Adaptive Sharpening) and Variable Rate Shading (VRS). Ubisoft said it has worked closely with AMD to "ensure smooth 4K visuals experience".
"This requires a lot of memory bandwidth, and the Radeon RX 6000 with Infinity Cache can easily handle this while keeping frame rates high. We've been very impressed by AMD's latest tech and joined forces to bring FidelityFX CAS, DXR Ray Tracing, and Variable Rate Shading to Far Cry 6".

StarVR is calling on simulation racers to try its ultrawide VR headset
StarVR released the StarVR One ultrawide VR headset earlier this year, but it was available for businesses only at launch. The headset still isn't a consumer device, but hardcore sim hobbyists are now welcome to buy one.
StarVR had a long journey to bring its headset to market. The company first revealed the StarVR One prototype in 2015, when it toured several gaming events, including E3, showing off Overkill's The Walking Dead experience. The StarVR headset never came to the consumer market, but it has been available to select corporate customers since June of this year.
StarVR still doesn't offer the StarVR One headset to regular consumers, but the company is loosening its grip on the business requirement. StarVR announced that it would now accept requests for its headset from simulation racers. The StarVR One is now compatible with the most popular racing simulation games on the market. It was already supported in Project Cars 2, and now it works with iRacing and Assetto Corsa.

Red Dead Online will soon be a $20 standalone game, clocks in at 123GB
Red Dead Online is getting split from RDR2, and will soon be sold as a $20 standalone game.
With Rockstar's latest plan, gamers no longer have to buy Red Dead Redemption 2 in order to play the Red Dead Online mode. Starting December 1, players can purchase Red Dead Online as a separate download on PS4, Xbox One, Steam, The Epic Games Store, the Rockstar Launcher. The game will cost $4.99 and enjoy a 75% discount up until February 2021, and after that Red Dead Online will cost $20.
The mode will require some serious storage space. Rockstar says Red Dead Online needs at least 123GB of storage on all platforms, which is pretty rough for anyone who still has a launch PS4. RDO is currently available free for anyone who owns Red Dead Redemption 2, and is a monetized live game with tons of updates and content drops.

Like Witcher 3, Cyberpunk 2077's emotional quests will make you cry
CD Projekt RED teases some heartbreaking moments in Cyberpunk 2077. What could they be?
Strife, remorse, regret, sadness--these are things that any good RPG has to have. It's important that games make you feel something, whether it's excitement, elation, deep existential dread, opening up new gateways to your perspective on life, or just a sense of loss. Apparent CDPR's massive new sci-fi FPS-RPG could tick all these boxes.
According to Cyberpunk 2077 gameplay designer (aka fun provider) Pawel Kapala, the game can warm up even the stoniest of hearts. "I just completed a certain quest in Cyberpunk 2077 and while I don't usually get emotional playing games, I had to pause and take a breather after this one. Our Quest Designers and Writers created an insanely good experience," Kapala said on Twitter.

Xbox games will soon be streamed directly to TVs, no console needed
Soon consumers will be able to play Xbox games in their living room without owning an Xbox console.
Xbox is no longer a console, but a service offered on consoles, PCs, mobile phones, and soon smart TVs. Microsoft's Project xCloud tech will allow direct game-to-TV game streaming possibly as soon as 2021, Xbox boss Phil Spencer says in a new interview with The Verge.
Spencer says we could see an Xbox app emerge sometime in the next 12 months, but is careful to say that the best cloud gaming experiences will require a hybrid of local and streaming tech. Latency is a big issue and Spencer says dedicated console and PC gaming isn't going anywhere anytime soon.
