Battlefield V producer: ray tracing in consoles eventually
NVIDIA unveiled their next-gen GeForce RTX 20 series graphics cards last week, with the new Turing GPU architecture capable of real-time ray tracing in games like Battlefield V, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, and Metro Exodus. But Battlefield V in particular looked gorgeous, as you can see in our exclusive video below.
Now we have Battlefield producer David Sirland taking to Twitter to handle some questions about the RTX side of things, with Sirland working on Battlefield 2, Battlefield 4, and Battlefield 1's Incursions mode. Sirland said that real-time ray tracing is "freaking cool", and that from a "gameplay standpoint it will change a lot of things, so I hope standardization happens fast. I normally could care less about how stuff looks, as it results in worse gameplay".

DICE won't make Battlefield V's battle royale mode
DICE will focus on Battlefield V's core development while another studio handles the game's battle royale mode, but this is just how EA dev studios work.
The news was confirmed in a six-day-old Reddit post by a key player at the FPS studio. "[Battlefield V's] Royale is being made by a different studio, not DICE," said Ben Walke, Global Manager, Community Engagement at DICE. The mode's development will be a collaborative effort, which is nothing new for EA game studios; many high-profile games are collaborative works whose pieces are carved up and handed to specific teams that specialize in certain fields. The industry is also rife with examples of multi-studio dev, including 343i's upcoming Halo 6 and nearly every big Ubisoft game (especially Assassin's Creed titles).
Since EA makes games with so many moving parts, it's only natural other key devs are brought in to ensure everything runs smoothly both at launch and in the months beyond. Battlefront II was also a collaborative effort at EA; DICE made the bulk of the game whereas EA Motive and Criterion handled vehicles and space combat.

Control will be more 'adventurous,' Remedy says
Control, Remedy's new IP, should take more risks across the board--with its narrative, game mechanics, and overall tone--but that hasn't stopped the studio from making a new team for its next project.
When Remedy's new Control game was announced at E3 2018 I saw its past represented quite clearly. Control has a very Quantum Break-style aesthetic and also seems to match some of the former game's powers, but the studio affirms its new third-person action title will be a lot more adventurous than its previous slate. Control's key narrative elements and story flow will still have that Remedy feel, however.
"With Control, it's redefining Remedy again," Remedy's PR rep Thomas Puha told PCGamesInsider.biz. "We made two very linear story-driven game and again we're going to have the story but in a game that's a lot more adventurous. Hopefully, it's something we can keep building more in the years to come."

Nintendo to push 'fixed cost model' for mobile games
Nintendo's future mobile games may have a fixed price, thus making them much less accessible than free-to-play games.
Mobile gaming thrives on free-to-play titles that are monetized with microtransactions. The games industry market is expected to make $170 billion 2018, analyst firm DigiCapital predicts, with mobile raking in a whopping $60 billion or the lion's share of 39% of total earnings. Much of this revenue is garnered by free-to-play mobile games, especially Tencent games in China.
But Nintendo isn't ready to go all-in on F2P just yet: despite pressure from investors, it will push its antiquate combination free-to-start and buy-to-play model in an effort to provide value to consumers.

Fans looking forward to Overkill's excellent-looking new The Walking Dead game will have to wait until early 2019, Starbreeze Studios confirms.
We're about due for a good The Walking Dead game that truly taps the series visceral and chaotic world. Thankfully Overkill has us covered with their upcoming game, which seems to do exactly that. The new project, which is being hailed across the board at Gamescom 2018, features online multiplayer that forces players to team up with class-based characters to survive and scavenge in the brutal zombie-ridden streets of Washington, D.C. Sadly, console gamers will have to wait until February 2019 to jump into the fray.
The delay, which was announced in Starbreeze Studios's quarterly earnings, is a tactical business decision from publisher 505 Games. The PC version is still on track for its November release.

Xbox All Access to combine subscriptions and consoles
Microsoft's new Xbox All Access program aims to bridge the cost gap preventing consumers from buying into the console ecosystem, thus making Xbox hardware and subscriptions more widely accessible.
The Xbox All Access initiative will combine both Xbox hardware and two different kinds of subscriptions--Xbox Game Pass and Xbox LIVE Gold--in one affordable package, sources have told Windows Central. Essentially Microsoft will lease consoles to users and allow them to pay the system's cost off over time, while also bundling in its online game services for two years.
Sources say pricing will be about $22/month for an Xbox One S, and $35/month for an Xbox One X across a period of 24 months. This would bring the total long-run cost of the Xbox One S option to $528 and the Xbox One X option to $840. A quick breakdown reveals some savings: the average cost of an Xbox One S is around $230, two years of Xbox LIVE Gold at $59.99/year nets around $240, and two years of Game Pass at $59.99 per six months nets $240 as well, bringing the total retail cost to ~$710 or so.

Bandai reveal Soulcalibur VI paid DLC character 'Tira'
Bandai Namco has released another trailer onto their YouTube Channel, this time they have revealed the upcoming DLC character for Soulcalibur VI. Introducing Tira, and he Ring Blade of doom.
For those that don't know Tira's history throughout the Soulcalibur series, Tira was first introduced to the franchise in 2005's Soulcalibur 3. This time round though, Soulcalibur VI will feature the character as a paid DLC option, she will be completely stand-alone in the DLC and is apart of the games fighting season pass.
Looking towards the comment section of the trailer, fans of the series seem outraged to know that Bandai are already looking towards paid DLC characters when the initial games' standard fighting roster has not been completed yet. This is a fair point, and personally as a massive fan of the Soulcalibur series this does sadden me to see the publisher/developer looking towards paid DLC's, hopefully Bandai will clear this up very soon as fans really do seem outraged at this decision.

CDPR on Cyberpunk 2077: you're never safe in Night City
Cyberpunk 2077's in-game Night City is alive, hungry, and has very sharp teeth. Players should beware.
CD Projekt RED is currently busily crafting its most ambitious project to date--we're of course talking about Cyberpunk 2077. During E3 2018 we got our first taste of Night City, the game's huge sprawling mayhem-infused metropolis, but now the devs are talking more about what to expect from the sci-fi haven of havoc. We've known for a while that the FPS RPG would feature a living, breathing city with dynamic AI, all powered by the studio's next-gen games engine. While we haven't exactly seen the game in action yet, CDPR promises one of the most active, alive, and compelling backdrops gaming has to offer.
"So when it comes to more densely packed areas in the city, like the city center, Watson, Heywood, you have community there. They have their routines, you can observe them and interact with them. When it comes to places where there aren't that many people because, well, it's either too violent in Pacifica or it's just not inhabited enough like Domingo, you still have this kind of city flair," CD Projekt RED producer Richard Borzymowski told Gamespot in a recent interview.
