Telltale Games shuts down, future games likely cancelled

| Sep 21, 2018 5:58 PM CDT

Telltale Games is closing down following disappointing sales of its most recent games--as well as a failed internal shake-up.

Telltale Games shuts down, future games likely cancelled

Back in November 2017, Telltale Games announced a new vision: cut its total workforce by 25% so it could become more lean and concentrate on "fewer, better games." This plan didn't work. Today Telltale confirmed that it will be shutting down and all but 25 of its 250 employees will stay aboard as a skeleton crew to keep specific obligations met.

Sources tell Forbes games writer Joe Parlock that every single game was a financial failure besides The Walking Dead's first season. The studio just didn't hit the sales figures it needed and "ran out of time." This means upcoming games like its Stranger Things and The Wolf Among Us 2 are likely cancelled.

| Sep 21, 2018 5:00 AM CDT

Capcom sell limited-edition classic Mega Man 2/X cartridges

I personally wasn't even alive when Mega Man was first released, but when hearing of the games success two title names have always stood out, Mega Man 2 and Mega Man X. Capcom has recognized the popularity and nostalgic value of both these titles and have decided to throw the game back onto the production line. The developer will produce 8,500 copies in total, more surprisingly though 2,000 copies (1,000 for each game) will be shipped completely unique as they will be "Translucent, Glow-in-the-Dark Blue" versions.

Each one of these games will be quite expensive, coming in at a price of $100 each it can be assumed that this will not be stopping those die hard fans. It should also be noted that when purchasing a cartridge that it will not be including the NES or the SNES system. If you are interested in picking up one of these cartridges for your game of choice, visit this link for Mega Man X here and Mega Man 2 here.

Soulcalibur VI trailer reveals Raphael, Prelude to Madness

| Sep 21, 2018 4:00 AM CDT

Bandai Namco has revealed yet another character for their upcoming Soulcalibur VI. The classiness of this character knows no bounds, most Soulcalibur fans would be able to recognize who I'm talking about almost immediately, yes that's right, a character trailer for Raphael has been released.

Soulcalibur VI trailer reveals Raphael, Prelude to Madness

For those that don't know who Raphael is, the character has been apart of the SoulCalibur series since the second installment. Raphael's choice of weaponry is a rapier and he is unparalleled in terms of skill. Raphael is "rigorously trained in the art of swordsmanship" and used his ability of the sword to defend his family while the French society was torn by political battles and war.

Raphael's luck only lasted for so long though, "his cold and ambivalent nature gained him many enemies. When the France's political balance shifted during the Evil Seed event, his family handed him over to his enemies to save themselves. Raphael eventually escaped to the slums where he was saved by a young girl by the name of Amy." If you aren't caught up on the news surrounding SoulCalibur VI, character trailers have been released for the following characters: Maxi, Siegfried, Taki, Tira and Cervantes.

Delve into madness with new Call of Cthulhu gameplay trailer

Throughout the trailer we are subjected to Edward Pierces mind, as we witness him do his best to uncover clues towards the investigation, he is confronted by horrifying visions, cultists and things that are beyond human comprehension. The trailer explains that physically fighting enemies or these visions will be "futile", players will more so rely on other skills. Pierce will have to take a more diplomatic stealth approach, combining both his knowledge on the island and its residents with medicine and courage.

Players should note that the more that Edward Pierce learns about Darkwater island and its residents the more that he will be driven to insanity. This means that Pierces awareness of the situation will be a massive factor when it comes to his cognitive ability to make logical decisions to draw conclusions. The more that players are exposed to Darkwater island the less mental stability they will have, do think you have what it takes to drive full speed down the road to madness and meet it head on? Call of Cthulhu will be released on October 30th or better known as Halloween, visit the official Steam listing here.

Diablo III for Switch: confirmed no inclusion of Link gear

| Sep 21, 2018 2:00 AM CDT

Back in early March we were teased by Blizzard for a port of Diablo III coming to the Nintendo Switch, now the title has been confirmed and will be arriving with some spliced Nintendo features. These features will sadly not include Link, but instead his nemesis, Ganondorf.

Diablo III for Switch: confirmed no inclusion of Link gear

Nintendo and Blizzard have combined forces to bring Diablo III: Eternal Collection to the handheld console and they won't be just stopping there either. Nintendo wouldn't be Nintendo if they didn't chuck in some of their own features for their die hard fans, so both companies decided to implement Ganondorfs armor as a transmogrification. Ganondorf is of course the famous villain in The Legend of Zelda series, the implementation of his armor sparked curiosity to whether we were also going to receive the same treatment with some Link gear.

Unfortunately, this will not be the case as a Blizzard representative has told Comic Book that "there will be no Link gear coming to Eternal Collection." This decision is mainly due to the nature of Link and that Ganondorf fits more seamlessly into the world of Diablo, "We tried a variety of different ideas in testing, but ultimately we felt that Ganondorf best fit the world of Diablo." Diablo III: Eternal Collection will be releasing on the Nintendo Switch on November 2nd.

PUBG's new update includes ranking system and SO MUCH MORE

| Sep 20, 2018 10:29 PM CDT

Today is a big day for games, with Fortnite celebrating over 78 million monthly users and Rocket League flying past 50 million players... but what about PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds? PUBG has some exciting things going on, with it all centered around the new PUBG PC update 22.

PUBG's new update includes ranking system and SO MUCH MORE

PUBG's new update adds what gamers have been asking about for a very long time now: a ranking system, but it also gives you the chance to trade low-level skins that you don't want, need, or use anymore. On top of that, PUBG Corp. has made some changes to the UI and menu, and much more underneath the game.

As for the new PUBG Rank System, there will be 8 tiers:

Rocket League flies past 50 million players

| Sep 20, 2018 9:32 PM CDT

I'm sure most gamers have heard about Rocket League by now, with the game launching four years ago now and has since amassed 50 million player across the world, something the official Twitter account celebrated in the last 24 hours.

Rocket League flies past 50 million players

Rocket League developer Psyonix isn't looking at making a sequel to the game yet, even though it is home to over 50 million players, but they are instead looking at the future of Rocket League with a games-as-a-service perspective. Psyonix explained: "That's preferable to do; games-as-a-service. The most valuable thing in our game is our fans. A lot of the stuff we do is focused on keeping them with us. Keeping them interested and all hyped up about our game. We want to provide a really good experience [for players] to have fun with for years to come".

The developer continued: "We want to keep this going. I don't know what I'd do with Rocket League 2. I'd rather do more to expand the existing Rocket League. It's doing great, there is a lot ahead of it. So yeah, we have no plans for Rocket League 2".

Fortnite now has an insane 78 million monthly players

| Sep 20, 2018 8:32 PM CDT

Epic Games has announced that Fortnite had a huge month in August, with an insane 78.3 million players getting into the Unreal Engine-powered phenomenon last month alone.

Fortnite now has an insane 78 million monthly players

Minecraft was home to 74 million players in December, while in 2016 we saw 100 million active players in League of Legends. The streaming community has totally embraced Fortnite, with major Twitch streamers like Ninja joining the fray, as well as the constant flow of updates that Epic pushes into the world of Fortnite keep players coming back.

Fortnite Season 6 kicks off soon, with the big purple cube landing in Loot Lake and causing a kerfuffle. Are you playing Fortnite and are one of those huge 78.3 million people playing it each month? Let us know in the comments below.

Devil May Cry 5 won't require high-end GPU

| Sep 20, 2018 6:31 PM CDT

Capcom has updated Devil May Cry 5's Steam page with PC spec requirements, and they're not too bad.

Devil May Cry 5 won't require high-end GPU

Devil May Cry 5 should be pretty friendly for PC rigs outfitted with lower-end GPUs. The game's spec requirements are conservative in some areas, but you'll need at least an Intel Core i7-4770 to play as well as 8GB of RAM. GPU-wise you can skirt away with a GTX 760. Recommended specs include an Intel Core i7-4470 CPU, 8GB of RAM, and an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960 or better. This is particularly interesting given Devil May Cry 5 was built off of Capcom's proprietary RE Engine, which powered Resident Evil 7 and had some pretty awesome visuals.

Red Dead Redemption 2 gets tons of new screenshots

| Sep 20, 2018 5:32 PM CDT

Today Rockstar unloaded an entire carriage of Red Dead Redemption 2 screenshots, giving more insight into its sprawling new Western story.

Red Dead Redemption 2 gets tons of new screenshots

The more I see and hear about Red Dead Redemption 2, the more excited I get. With its grim and somber tone set against a desperate, brutal backdrop of murder and mayhem, the game's story has already captured my imagination. But there's much, much more to Rockstar's new game, including a huge open-ended world filled with reactive and dynamic characters, interesting towns that adapt to the century-turning revolution, and massive freedom that lets us take Arthur Morgan wherever we choose.

There's also the new first-person mode that'll ship with the game. This essentially lets us walk around in Arthur's spur-heeled boots and gun down whoever we want--and live with or die by the consequences--all in a kind of FPS-like experience.

Red Dead Redemption 2 can transform into a FPS

| Sep 20, 2018 4:25 PM CDT

Rockstar will let us see through the red-dead eyes of a harrier gunslinger in its latest Western adventure.

Red Dead Redemption 2 can transform into a FPS

Similar to GTA V, Red Dead Redemption 2 can transform into a first-person shooter at any in-game moment. The game will ship with a first-person view mode that connects players even more to the outlaw Arthur Morgan, and offers some interesting possibilities for exploration in Rockstar's impressive-looking 1899 Western frontier. This should add a more intimate dimension to the singleplayer-driven experience itself while immersing players into the spur-heeled boots of a hardened desperado.

I'm curious how adept the gunfights will be in first-person, but remember it's Rockstar we're talking about...so things should be pretty fine-tuned. Everything except cutscenes can be played in first-person, including horseback riding, character interactions/dialog sequences, roaring shootouts, mini-games, and much more.

Sony has no plans to make new PS Vita

| Sep 20, 2018 2:24 PM CDT

Sony's ill-fated PlayStation Vita is winding down its ticker, and the company won't make another one any time soon.

Sony has no plans to make new PS Vita

Despite selling quite well in Japan, the PS Vita handheld failed to capture overseas markets, even with PS4 ecosystem integration and cross-platform features. As a result Sony pretty much abandoned the system and plans to stop shipping the device in 2019. Due to a number of conditions--including mobile gaming initiatives--Sony currently has no plans to make a next-gen Vita handheld.

"Right now, I'd like you to consider that there is no PS Vita successor hardware. As for a portable game machine, there is no plans for anything after the PS Vita," Sony Interactive Entertainment Japan's Hiroyuki Oda told Mantan Web (as translated by Kotaku).

PlayStation Now lets you download games for offline play

| Sep 20, 2018 12:46 PM CDT

PlayStation Now now has a chance of competing with Microsoft's Game Pass service.

PlayStation Now lets you download games for offline play

The battle of the subscriptions rages on as Sony adds PlayStation Now game downloads to the service, effectively bringing offline play to a large portion of games. Sony has effectively nixed the service's major drawback (it used to be streaming-only) and evens up the playing field against Xbox Game Pass. Users can now download nearly every PS4 game on the catalog along with a smattering of remastered PS2 games. There was no mention of downloading PlayStation games to PC.

But there's a caveat to offline play: you'll have to re-connect to the internet "every few days" to validate your subscription and game licenses. An exact timeframe wasn't given. This is reminiscent of Switch Online's requirement to log in every 7 days to play NES games offline.

Dark Souls Remastered for Switch: Network Test available

| Sep 20, 2018 3:00 AM CDT

Months after the release of Dark Souls Remastered on the PS4, Xbox One and PC, developers and publishers FromSoftware and Bandai Namco have announced that there will be a network test for Nintendo Switch players this weekend.

Dark Souls Remastered for Switch: Network Test available

Variety has reported that Nintendo Switch players will have chance to jump into the networking testing this weekend. Originally, the network test was planned for April as the games full release was planned for soon after, unfortunately both of those release dates was heavily delayed due to Bandai Namco wanting to "give the development team the time needed to make sure Nintendo Switch players can fully appreciate the true 'Dark Souls' experience anytime and anywhere, thanks to the unique portable nature of the Nintendo Switch console."

On a positive note, the network test will be available this weekend, beginning on Oct. 19. Dark Souls Remastered will be the first Souls game to come to a Nintendo console and will come in at a price of $40. The game will also be bundled with the Artorias of the Abyss DLC. Nintendo Switch NES Emulator successfully hacked, new games?

| Sep 20, 2018 1:00 AM CDT

Nintendo Switch Online just made its debut to the public and within hours of its release the updated console has already been hacked. Someone has already figured out how to access the NES games folder.

Nintendo Switch NES Emulator successfully hacked, new games?

According to the hacker, Nintendo has decided to use a direct port of the NES Classic Edition, which is apparently quite easy to hack. The hacker is under the name 'Kapu' on Twitter and explains that the "Nintendo Switch Online's NES games are plain .nes files GUI appears to be entirely LUA much like the S/NES Classic so people are gonna be able to go to town on this." The hacker continues to explain what he has found after datamining the Switch, he claims that Nintendo should not have advertised this service as big as they did when all they have simply done is "a quick port of an existing emulator packaged with some ROMs."

Kapu says that when looking into the files that the entire patch "feels pretty much like an afterthought. The most work that went into it was likely the UI. There aren't any fancy patches for individual games or anything, the online multiplayer aspect uses the exact same networking code as any other Switch game, such as Splatoon 2 or MK8D." Polygon managed to get into contact with Kapu, they posed a question to him that was based around a user without prior hacking knowledge wanting to add their own ROM's to the file system. This would in turn, allow for custom NES Classic games to be added to the library.
