Huawei enters the ACPC market with Snapdragon-powered PC

Anthony Garreffa | Mobile Devices | Apr 15, 2019 10:25 PM CDT

Huawei has just announced its new Matebook E 2019, a new 2-in-1 laptop that joins Qualcomm's growing Always Connected PC family of devices.

Huawei enters the ACPC market with Snapdragon-powered PC

Inside, the new Matebook E 2019 packs Qualcomm's own Snapdragon 850 SoC, options for 4GB or 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM, and a 128GB or 256GB SSD. You'll get a 12-inch 2560x1440 display that has a kickstand that turns it into a Surface-style device, with an attachable keyboard that will turn it into a laptop for those on-the-go. The big seller here is the up to 20 hours of battery life, something the ACPC is a game changer for, with Huawei using a 36.3 WHr battery.

The big difference with the ACPC (Always Connected PC) part of this is that the Snapdragon 850 chip packs a Snapdragon X20 Category 18 LTE modem that has up to 1.2Gbps down, and up to 150Mbps up. Because it's using a Snapdragon 850 SoC you won't be running normal x86-based software, but a helluva lot of software works on the ARM-based laptop. Firefox has a Snapdragon on Windows specific beta that is much better on the ARM-based processor than the likes of Chrome and Opera, for now.

Battlefield: Bad Company 3 coming to next-gen consoles

Anthony Garreffa | Gaming | Apr 15, 2019 9:31 PM CDT

If there was a Battlefield game that I would buy sight unseen it would be Battlefield: Bad Company 3, which is back in the headlines thanks to new rumors of it being built for next-gen consoles.

Battlefield: Bad Company 3 coming to next-gen consoles

The new information is coming from a post on Pastebin from late last year which is coming into the spotlight properly, with an anonymous poster working a a third-party EU-based game developer that says the PS5 will have 24GB GDDR6, launch in 2020 for $499 and of course will be powered by next-gen Zen 2 CPU and Navi GPU technology from AMD.

Well, interestingly the poster said that one of the games that will launch on the next-gen Xbox and PS5 consoles is Battlefield: Bad Company 3. The problem is that DICE hasn't treated its fans well over the years with the mess of Battlefield 1, the controversy surrounding Battlefield V (and the fact that not many people play it in comparison to other EA held franchise like Apex Legends with over 50 million players), and who can forget Star Wars Battlefront II's controversy, where it cost up to $2100 to unlock everything in the game.

Sony paid 'huge money' for GTA 6 and 1-month PS5 exclusivity

Anthony Garreffa | Gaming | Apr 15, 2019 8:28 PM CDT

I still remember the TweakTown servers crashing multiple times requiring us to upgrade the hardware inside of them when I broke the first big Grand Theft Auto 6 news all the way back in February 2015.

Sony paid 'huge money' for GTA 6 and 1-month PS5 exclusivity

Well when I stumbled upon the Pastebin post about the next-gen PlayStation 5 and its rumored 24GB GDDR6, Zen 2 CPU and Navi GPU both based on 7nm from AMD, there was a little news about Grand Theft Auto 6 in there as well. The anonymous posted said that GTA 6 would be launching in holiday 2020 (which starts in November) and that Sony paid "huge money" in order to secure a 1-month PS5 exclusive.

If Sony has indeed paid huge money for a 1-month exclusive of GTA 6 on its next-gen PlayStation 5, that in itself would be absolutely massive from a marketing perspective. Microsoft will surely have its own timed exclusives on its next-gen Xbox console, but if Sony has secured something as big as the next Grand Theft Auto game... well, that would be insane.

The latest PS5 rumors: 24GB GDDR6, costs $499, drops in 2020

Anthony Garreffa | Gaming | Apr 15, 2019 7:31 PM CDT

Sony will be ramping up towards the release of its next-gen PlayStation 5 console later this year, where I'm sure Microsoft will steal the show at E3 2019 with its reveal of its next-gen Xbox console, but Sony fans could be in for a real treat according to the latest rumors.

The latest PS5 rumors: 24GB GDDR6, costs $499, drops in 2020

I've previously reported that Sony will have full backwards compatibility with its PS5 allowing for PS1/PS2/PS3/PS4 games to all be played on its next-gen console. I also reported exclusively that Sony was working with RTG engineers at AMD on the next-gen Navi GPU architecture, and we also know that the new PS5 will feature a Zen 2-based CPU with up to 8C/16T of processing power on tap.

Well, according to the latest rumors we have something to be excited for when it comes to specs. The new rumors are from a post on Pastebin from December 2018 that is now getting some attention with a "small third-party developer" from the EU that says for the last 8 months they have been helping a "well known company in a AAA game development" studio that is making a launch title for the PS5 in 2020.

Great Square Enix RPG Octopath Traveler coming to PC in June

Derek Strickland | Gaming | Apr 15, 2019 7:09 PM CDT

Switch exclusive no more: nearly a year after its release, Octopath Traveler is crossing over to PC.

Great Square Enix RPG Octopath Traveler coming to PC in June

Square Enix has confirmed one of its most popular RPGs, Octopath Traveler, is coming to PC this June. Octopath Traveler is one of the best RPGs in recent memory and stands as a shining example of old-school Square Enix mastery. The turn-based RPG was a classic right out of the gate, sporting amazing SNES-like "HD-2D" visuals infused with an innovative combat system. Armed with a distinct experience that feels both old and new, the game went on to ship over 1 million units worldwide at launch.

Right now Square Enix could use more wins and Octopath Traveler could help a lot. Outside of Kingdom Hearts III and Final Fantasy XIV, its games aren't doing all that great. It reported lower-than-expected earnings last quarter, and drastically shrank its dev teams from 11 into 4 cohesive units.

Respawn dropped new project in favor of Jedi: Fallen Order

Derek Strickland | Gaming | Apr 15, 2019 5:15 PM CDT

As many developers do, Respawn gave up development of a project so they could work on a big licensed IP. It just so happens in Respawn's case the opportunity was for one of the biggest and turbulent franchises in history.

Respawn dropped new project in favor of Jedi: Fallen Order

The history of Star Wars games is paved with cancelled projects, shattered dreams, and untold stories. There's hope left in the universe, though, and Respawn could restore balance to the franchise with its ambitious Jedi: Fallen Order game. To craft the expansive exploration-fueled Jedi power fantasy, Respawn had to focus the entirety of its new action-adventure branch on the project. That meant forestalling development of a game that was already in the works.

Jedi: Fallen Order's development stretches as far back as 2014 when Stig Asmussen joined Respawn. EA approached Respawn that same year about doing a Star Wars game, and Asmussen's team, which is undoubtedly the studio's non-FPS segment, put everything else on hold for Jedi: Fallen Order. Asmussen revealed more details in a recent interview with Press Start:

Capcom's new arcade stick comes with built-in classics

Derek Strickland | Gaming | Apr 15, 2019 4:11 PM CDT

Instead of a mini-console, Capcom plans to pre-load classic games onto a two-player fighting pad.

Capcom's new arcade stick comes with built-in classics

Today Capcom teased what looks to be another old-school games collection. The brief trailer shows footage of classics like Street Fighter II: Hyper Fighting, Alien vs Predator, Darkstalkers: The Night Warriors, and Gigawing reflected off of a classic arcade joystick setup. This is a big clue, and sources tell Nintendo Life that Capcom's collection isn't just a software re-release--it's tied to hardware too.

Apparently the Japanese games-maker will launch an arcade stick setup that plugs directly into your TV. The hardware comes with two sticks built in to simulate classic arcade action. The games are built right into the stick itself, making it a kind of Capcom-oriented plug-and-play mini-console of sorts, but it's not exactly cost-effective and may cost as much as $250.

God of War director confirms there will be 'no DLC coming'

Jak Connor | Gaming | Apr 15, 2019 4:00 AM CDT

In a new post on the God of War directors Twitter page, fans of the series have had a rush of emotion as what was originally thought to be a DLC headed to game has been confirmed to be the opposite.

God of War director confirms there will be 'no DLC coming'

The original post by Cory Barlog, Sony Santa Monica Studios Director, featured a celebratory one year anniversary package that contained a video, free theme and some avatars for users. Barlog shared the post on his personal Twitter page with the caption "That's not all..." which spiked the interest in fans thinking that there was possibly a secret DLC for God of War in the works.

Barlog later commented on his own Twitter thread and said "Just so no one gets the wrong idea - there is no DLC coming for the game. Sorry." Back in January, Barlog did have an idea for a God of War DLC and actually pitched the idea but was but with it being too ambitious so the idea was scrapped. This recent news from Barlog has just unfortunately hammered the nail down into the possibility coffin of God of War having a DLC. Barlog said to Kinda Funny "I had a really fun idea for a DLC that I only regret because I would love to have done that. But it was too ambitious."

Black Hole image ran through de-blurring software has focus

Jak Connor | Science, Space, & Robotics | Apr 15, 2019 3:00 AM CDT

Back last week, we gained a new achievement as a human race as for the first time we photographed a black hole. The image was a major success and has been run through some de-blurring software.

Black Hole image ran through de-blurring software has focus

Above is the original zoomed up image of the super-massive black hole which has been taken by Earth's Event Horizon Telescope. In the entirety of this post you will find the zoomed out image that captures the other particles floating around the center, and you will also find a simulated focus image in a side-by-side comparison to the original zoomed up image.

WCCFtech has also run the image through both simulated blur and simulated focus which has pulled the color out of the image and given a much more donut defined shape to what we are looking at. From this comparison image, we can see that the stimulated focus image looses resolution and provides a more vibrate increase of color. This use of the focus also deepens the blacks, which improves the quality of the black holes center.

Sony reveals 783-inch 16K LED screen, larger than a bus

Anthony Garreffa | Displays | Apr 14, 2019 11:29 PM CDT

If there's one thing about sitting in front of an 8K display all day as I do, it's the eternal question of sitting in front of an 8K display that is nowhere near mainstream yet and thinking "what next". Well, that is closer than you think thanks to Sony.

Sony reveals 783-inch 16K LED screen, larger than a bus

Sony announced at NAB 2019 (National Association of Broadcasters) that it has developed a new screen that rocks a native 16K resolution and uses its in-house Crystal LED technology. The screen in question is absolutely mammoth with it coming in at 63 feet (19m) long and 17 feet (5.4m) high, with a diagonal of 783 inches which means it's bigger than a bus.

Strategy Analytics analyst David Mercer told the BBC: "These displays are incredibly impressive in person - even 8K on a big display is almost mesmerising. When you get to this resolution it delivers almost a quasi-virtual reality experience as your eyes perceive there to be depth to the content".

AMD to launch next-gen Navi graphics cards at E3 2019

Anthony Garreffa | Graphics Cards | Apr 14, 2019 10:35 PM CDT

We are all expecting AMD to be announcing all things 7nm during Computex 2019 in the last week of May, but what I've been told my exclusive sources is that AMD might touch on its next-gen Navi GPU at Computex 2019 but will instead do a full announcement at E3 2019.

AMD to launch next-gen Navi graphics cards at E3 2019

E3 2019 takes place a few weeks after Computex does, with E3 2019 taking place between June 12-14 in LA. AMD launched Radeon RX Vega graphics cards in LA back in 2017 alongside the first-gen Ryzen Threadripper, but unlike Vega... Navi will be a muhc better GPU architecture and from what I'm hearing about performance it'll also be surprising.

E3 2019 is the perfect time to launch t he most exciting card in Radeon history in years, as it's a total gaming-centric event. All eyes can be on Radeon, as Navi will also be powering the two next-gen consoles in the future Xbox and PlayStation 5 families.

Apple spending up to $500 million on new Arcade game service

Apple is spending as much as half a billion to establish its new game service, and plans to invest in projects over the long haul.

Apple spending up to $500 million on new Arcade game service

Apple is taking a unique approach to tapping the games market. Not content with making revenues from freemium mobile games, the company established Apple Arcade, a new service that's more like Xbox Game Pass than Google's new Stadia platform. Apple Arcade isn't cloud streaming but instead offers a pool of all-you-can-play exclusive games from high-profile AAA and indie developers like SEGA, Konami, Disney, and Sumo Digital. The tech titan is personally investing money into each project to ensure Apple Arcade games are premium experiences...but the bill is adding up fast.

Sources tell The Financial Times that Apple Arcade could cost as much as $500 million over time, or the price of multiple big-budget AAA releases. Apple is reportedly investing millions on each game and wants to follow Epic's playbook by booking timed exclusivity. For a monthly fee, subscribers get access to a growing number of games that can be played on multiple devices like iPhones, iPads, and even Apple TV boxes.

Jedi: Fallen Order channels Uncharted, The Force Unleashed

Derek Strickland | Gaming | Apr 14, 2019 4:12 PM CDT

Respawn's new Star Wars game channels some of the best games in the industry, and may channel what Visceral's "Star Wars Uncharted" game could've been...only with Force powers.

Jedi: Fallen Order channels Uncharted, The Force Unleashed

Jedi: Fallen Order, the next big marquee Star Wars game from Respawn Entertainment, sounds quite familiar. Billed as an action-adventure game, EA's official description paints a picture very much akin to games like Uncharted and The Force Unleashed. EA says it'll deliver "cinematically charged lightsaber and Force combat" set in a "galaxy-spanning adventure."

The game's official story reveal trailer highlighted some of these features. We saw some of the Nathan Drake-style death-defying stunts players will face including running on walls and making impossible leaps of faith. Jedi: Fallen Order even has Cal, the Padawan protagonist, solving mysterious puzzles set across ancient Jedi temples scattered across the galaxy--much like Indiana Jones or Nathan Drake search for relics.

Jedi: Fallen Order was in development since 2014

Derek Strickland | Gaming | Apr 14, 2019 1:17 PM CDT

Like most games on the market, Jedi: Fallen Order has been in development for a long while now.

Jedi: Fallen Order was in development since 2014

Yesterday Respawn unveiled Jedi: Fallen Order, the studio's new ambitious singleplayer-only Star Wars game that aims at capturing a true Jedi fantasy story. As with most Star Wars games, which are often turbulent and rocky affairs, Respawn's project was in development for quite a while. How long? The foundation for Respawn's saga-bridging game was laid as far back as 2014. And the team behind it worked on some of the biggest IPs in gaming.

In a recent panel at the Star Wars Celebration, game director Stig Asmussen revealed that Jedi: Fallen Order was born shortly after the original Titanfall released in 2014. The action-adventure Jedi game wasn't confirmed to fans and press until 2016.

Devilish Amsterdam 1666 game is happening, may be rebooted

Amsterdam 1666, the darkly enchanting game about a 17th century devil who plays lots of nasty tricks on denizens, is still in the works.

Devilish Amsterdam 1666 game is happening, may be rebooted

Assassin's Creed creator Patrice Desilets isn't about to give up on his macabre vision for Amsterdam 1666. The game is one of the most interesting prototypes I've seen in a long time--it has a dark and gritty tone and pulls us into a unique period of Amsterdam's golden years. But it was put on hold after THQ Montreal went under. Ubisoft bought the rights to THQ's library, including Amsterdam 1666, causing Desilets to enter custody battle with Ubisoft. Ultimately he won back the rights to his IP and plans to make the game.

But it won't be the same, and it'll probably take a long time before it's ready. In a recent interview with VG247, Desilets confirmed the game is still going to happen...but he'll reboot the project entirely. "For sure, Amsterdam 1666 is gonna happen," Desilets said in the interview.

Jedi: Fallen Order is a Jedi fantasy with meaningful combat

Derek Strickland | Gaming | Apr 13, 2019 2:05 PM CDT

Respawn's big new Star Wars game is a sprawling epic story set around a Jedi power fantasy, and will feature unique action combat.

Jedi: Fallen Order is a Jedi fantasy with meaningful combat

Today Respawn revealed a story trailer for Jedi: Fallen Order, and it looks absolutely fantastic. The game follows the story of Cal, a young padawan Force user who's on the run after the Jedi were hunted down after Order 66. Respawn says the Empire is at the "height of its power" during the game, and Cal must hide in plain sight and survives by following three rules: don't stand out, accept the past, and trust no one. Cal ekes out a living and stays in the shadows until he uses his Force powers to save a life. The Empire immediately hunts him down, pushing Cal into the wilds where he discovers old Jedi teachings as well as an ancient lightsaber.

According to Vince Zampella, Jedi: Fallen Order is all about living the magic of being a Jedi during dire circumstances. It's singleplayer-only (there's no multiplayer or microtransactions) and has heavy emphasis on new characters and locales.

30 Seasons of The Simpsons will feature on Disney+ at Launch

Disney has finally revealed their upcoming streaming service Disney+, and while another streaming service might seem a bit extra for users, the titles that will be on it might make you consider the opposite. One of the TV shows that have been announced for the service is none other than The Simpsons, and it's not just a couple seasons either. Disney+ will feature every episode of the show that spans across 30 seasons.

Disney+ is planned for launch this November, the pricing has been set to two options - $7 a month or $70 a year. That really does undercut the pricing of Netflix and Stan and with Disney's library of motion picture content we could really see the new streaming service take off with a bang this November.
