Prey 2 reboot sequel might be in dev, and Human Head might be involved

Derek Strickland | Gaming | Jan 6, 2021 1:42 PM CST

Arkane Austin, the dev team behind 2017's Prey reboot, is working on a new unannounced game. It could be a Prey sequel, and the original series developers could be involved.

Prey 2 reboot sequel might be in dev, and Human Head might be involved

In a recent interview with Spanish website Vandal, Dishonored and Deus Ex series designer Harvey Smith confirmed Arkane's Austin, Texas-based studio is making a new game. This isn't really surprising news as game devs are always making new unannounced projects (it's their job after all). Arkane Lyon, the other UK-based studio, is working on Deathloop.

"Raph stayed in Austin and worked at Prey with Ricardo Bare and Susan Kath and the people I'm working with now. At the end of Dishonored 2 I went back to Austin. I'm not in Deathloop , I'm in something else, working with the guys who made Dishonored and Prey," Smith said.

Qualcomm's new Snapdragon 480 is the first low-end SoC that packs 5G

Anthony Garreffa | Processors | Jan 6, 2021 1:19 AM CST

Qualcomm has just announced its new Snapdragon 480 SoC, the first low-end 5G SoC -- the company teased this would happen a few months ago, but now the day is here.

Qualcomm's new Snapdragon 480 is the first low-end SoC that packs 5G

The new Snapdragon 480 has a built-in X51 modem that supports mmWave and Sub-6GHz bands, as well as standalone and non-standalone deployments. In a nutshell, the Snapdragon 480 will give you 5G on virtually any 5G network in use today.

We're looking at up to 2.5Gbps download speeds on the X51 modem, with upload speeds topping out at about 660Mbps. Qualcomm is manufacturing the new Snapdragon 480 processor on the 8nm node, tacking on next-gen CPU and GPUs onto it that deliver up to twice the performance of the previous-gen Snapdragon 460.

Samsung's flagship Galaxy S21 Ultra will run 120Hz at full QHD+ res

Anthony Garreffa | Mobile Devices | Jan 5, 2021 11:31 PM CST

Samsung's new Galaxy S21 family of smartphones will be launched on January 14, with the flagship Galaxy S21 Ultra shaping up really, really well.

Samsung's flagship Galaxy S21 Ultra will run 120Hz at full QHD+ res

The flagship Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra will have a 120Hz refresh rate and full QHD+ resolution, which you can have both enabled at the same time. Unlike the current flagship Galaxy S20 Ultra which forces you to choose either the native QHD+ resolution or 120Hz, you can't have both at the same time -- but you can on the Galaxy S21 Ultra.

Samsung leaker @Universelce has now revealed the news with a screenshot explaining: "Galaxy S21 Ultra realizes WQHD+ resolution and 120Hz adaptive refresh rate can be turned on at the same time".

Bitcoin breaches $35,000 with JPMorgan seeing $146,000+ target for BTC

Anthony Garreffa | Cryptocurrency & Mining | Jan 5, 2021 11:14 PM CST

Bitcoin has been going kinda crazy in the last few months, but it has been doing some truly lambo moves as it broke $30,000 and then $33,000 -- and now Bitcoin has even breached $35,000.

Bitcoin breaches $35,000 with JPMorgan seeing $146,000+ target for BTC

But now we have JPMorgan Chase & Co throwing fuel onto the crypto fire, with strategists at JPMorgan saying that Bitcoin could skyrocket up to $146,000 in its "long-term target". At the time of writing, Bitcoin was sitting steady at around $35,330 or so.

The JPMorgan strategists explained: "A crowding out of gold as an 'alternative' currency implies big upside for Bitcoin over the long term, a convergence in volatilities between Bitcoin and gold is unlikely to happen quickly and is in our mind a multiyear process. This implies that the above-$146,000 theoretical Bitcoin price target should be considered as a long-term target, and thus an unsustainable price target for this year".

This is normally a feature you'd get for $750-$1000+ but OnePlus is doing it starting at $179 in the US on January 15, 2021.

The new flagship OnePlus Nord N10 5G has a 6.49-inch 90Hz display and 30W fast-charging -- inside, it'll be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 690 processor, 6GB of RAM, 5G technology, four rear cameras, and more. The Nord N10 5G might have 5G, but it is limited to slower low and mid-band 5G in the US, with no support for mmWave 5G.

Sabrent's new Rocket 4 Plus in 4TB caught breaking 7GB/sec in the wild

Anthony Garreffa | Storage | Jan 5, 2021 10:10 PM CST

World exclusive: Sabrent has some of the very best NVMe SSDs on the market, with its new flagship Rocket 4 Plus SSD -- available in 1TB and 2TB so far... but now we have some exclusive benchmarks on the 4TB Rocket 4 Plus SSD.

Sabrent's new Rocket 4 Plus in 4TB caught breaking 7GB/sec in the wild

The new Sabrent Rocket 4 Plus 4TB SSD has been tested by TweakTown under a couple of our usual benchmark runs, including CrystalDiskMark that sees the new Rocket 4 Plus 4TB SSD pumping away at 7171MB/sec (7.1GB/sec) sequential reads and a huge 6893MB/sec (6.9GB/sec) sequential writes.

This makes the Sabrent Rocket 4 Plus 4TB SSD one of the fastest SSDs in the world, an incredible feat. The Sabrent Rocket 4 Plus 2TB SSD for example, in our Storage God, Jon Coulter's review, pumps away at 7115MB/sec (7.1GB/sec) reads and 6597MB/sec (6.6GB/sec) writes. Great, but not quite the lofty heights that the new 4TB model is capable of.

ADATA's upcoming SD Express cards use NVMe and PCIe technology

Kevin Carbotte | Storage | Jan 5, 2021 9:44 PM CST

ADATA announced that it's preparing to revolutionize the SD card market with new SD Express cards capable of nearly three times the data throughput of the fastest SD cards on the market.

ADATA's upcoming SD Express cards use NVMe and PCIe technology

SD cards aren't super exciting. They give you extra storage capacity in your smartphone and give your digital camera somewhere to store images. As such, SD cards aren't usually the subject of impressive innovation.

The fastest SD cards, the UHS-II and UHS-III certified models, have been around for a few years now, and they top out at 312MB/s. ADATA's upcoming SD Express cards will be capable of roughly 824MB/s reads and 410MB/s writes.

BIOSTAR is preparing a new range of motherboards that will launch alongside Intel's new Rocket Lake-S 11th Gen Core processors, known as Valkyrie.

The company tweeted out the new image, teasing "Give new wings to..." and didn't finish the sentence. The wings that they've teased are from the Valkyrie in Norse mythology. It's a very cool way of teasing everyone, and I can't wait to see how it looks.

As for what to expect, BIOSTAR should unveil and release at least two new motherboards in the new Valkyrie series based on Intel's new Z590 chipset. There will be the BIOSTAR Z590 Valkyrie and BIOSTAR Z590I Valkyrie motherboards, offered in ATX and Mini-ITX, respectively.

Crytek is hiring new staff for its next-gen AAA sandbox game

Anthony Garreffa | Gaming | Jan 5, 2021 8:40 PM CST

Well, Crytek has let the cat out of the bag when it comes to its new unannounced AAA game, which seems to be a sandbox game given its new job listings out in the wild.

Crytek is hiring new staff for its next-gen AAA sandbox game

Crytek is looking for a new Game Director and Lead Game Designer for its unannounced AAA project, with the developer looking for someone who has years of experience in game design and has had a (preferably) FPS game that has sold over 1 million copies.

The developer is looking for someone with "sandbox" game experience, so we could see a totally next-gen FPS in a sandbox experience. Sounds interesting if Crytek can drive those graphics up through the roof, but we have no idea what to expect. Could it be Crysis related? Who knows... maybe?

AMD's mid-range Radeon RX 6700 series cards should be here by March

Anthony Garreffa | Graphics Cards | Jan 5, 2021 8:25 PM CST

It looks like AMD is expected to launch its mid-range Radeon RX 6700 graphics card in March 2021.

AMD's mid-range Radeon RX 6700 series cards should be here by March

The news is coming from Cowcotland, which reports: "According to our sources the two new AMD graphics cards are scheduled for the end of the first quarter of this year, so end of March".

AMD's new Radeon RX 6700 series will reportedly use the Navi 22 GPU and have up to 40 Compute Units (2560 stream processors). But it is the higher-end Radeon RX 6700 XT that could be the star of the show, and could be a mid-range killer that NVIDIA is now just responding to with the purported GeForce RTX 3060 ULTRA.

Samsung is ready to intro 10 new OLED laptops displays in 2021

Anthony Garreffa | Displays | Jan 5, 2021 8:10 PM CST

Samsung will be unleashing no less than 10 new OLED laptop displays in 2021, announcing it will kick off mass production of new OLED displays for laptops in February.

Samsung is ready to intro 10 new OLED laptops displays in 2021

Starting in February 2021, Samsung will have a new 15.6-inch 1080p OLED display for the first time. This will see OLED display technology offered in the 1080p laptop range, and in the mainstream 15.6-inch size. It's nice to see OLED technology offered to a larger market, as an OLED owner and enthusiast myself.

Samsung has mighty claims for its OLED technology, with up to 10 times higher response times over LCD displays -- hello gaming. Image quality will be off-the-charts better than LCD in VA or IPS, don't worry about that -- OLED is amazing, so if you see one of these new Samsung displays in a laptop somewhere, stop and take a look!

Intel Core i9-11900K engineering sample spotted, clocks up to 5.3GHz

Anthony Garreffa | Processors | Jan 5, 2021 7:48 PM CST

Intel's new Core i9-11900K has leaked again in engineering sample (ES) form but there is the change this chip could be a retail version, but now we have some more benchmarks to check out:

Intel Core i9-11900K engineering sample spotted, clocks up to 5.3GHz

The new Z590 platform that it was tested on isn't quite ready yet, where the benchmarker saw PCIe 3.0 not engaging when using the installed GeForce GTX 1660 Ti graphics card. What this means is that the GPU is forced to stick on the PCIe 1.1 x16 standard, which drags performance numbers down in games.

In CPU-focused benchmarks the new Intel Core i9-11900K can kick some ass with 708.7 points in CPU-z and its single-threaded benchmark while it scores 6443.9 points in the multi-threaded run.

COLORFUL iGame GeForce RTX 3090 Vulcan RNG Edition: only 6 being made

Anthony Garreffa | Graphics Cards | Jan 5, 2021 7:30 PM CST

COLORFUL has just unveiled its very latest, and one of -- if not the most exclusive graphics card the company has ever made... introducing the iGame GeForce RTX 3090 Vulcan RNG Edition.

COLORFUL iGame GeForce RTX 3090 Vulcan RNG Edition: only 6 being made

The card is a specially-made limited edition card designed and hand-crafted for Chinese esports team RNG, or Royal Never Give Up. The team plays League of Legends for the most part, so as VideoCardz puts it -- it's pretty damn overkill for that game. Still, it looks boss and would be a beautiful card in any collection (if you collect graphics cards).

COLORFUL has used the same great-looking design from its regular iGame Vulcan, but have dipped it in a totally new color scheme. Satin gold is used to great effect, while the backplate is covered with the members of RNG.

Cyberpunk 2077 loses 79% of its players on Steam since launch

Anthony Garreffa | Gaming | Jan 5, 2021 7:12 PM CST

Cyberpunk 2077 made some major headlines when it had the most concurrent Steam users EVER for a paid game, with a peak player count of just over 1 million on Steam at once. But now? Now that has fallen by a whopping 79%...

Cyberpunk 2077 loses 79% of its players on Steam since launch

Githyp is behind the Cyberpunk 2077 numbers, with the game struggling to crack 250,000 -- and at the time of writing was sitting just shy of 119,000 players on Steam. The average daily high is dropping, at 493,000 or so -- while it still has an 8.07% share of players on Steam playing Cyberpunk 2077.

But this isn't strange for a single player game, as it won't have as many returning players jumping back in for 'just another round'. Most players would finish Cyberpunk 2077 in under a couple of weeks, hell under a few days if you were playing it all day every day for days in a row -- which many gamers, including myself, do.

CDPR staffer: Johnny Silverhand was 'way cooler' before Keanu Reeves

Anthony Garreffa | Gaming | Jan 5, 2021 6:35 PM CST

Have you ever stopped and wondered what if CD PROJEKT RED used massive Hollywood actor, Matrix and John Wick star Keanu Reeves in Cyberpunk 2077, as a marketing stunt? Of course they did, but were they covering up some of the issues with the game throwing KEANU REEVES into Cyberpunk 2077? Possibly.

CDPR staffer: Johnny Silverhand was 'way cooler' before Keanu Reeves

Now there's reports stating that someone "outside CDPR" -- translation: investors -- wanted a huge star in Cyberpunk 2077. Keanu Reeves was chosen, but it wasn't CD PROJEKT RED's original choice, not was it their inspiration for the chaotic character that is Johnny Silverhand in Cyberpunk 2077.

The CD PROJEKT RED employee said: "I don't want to hate on Keanu, but f***ing hell, our original Johnny was way cooler and sounded like a maniac. Think Foltest on crack. Our original Johnny was heavily inspired by David Hayter's Solid Snake from the first MGS and believe it or not, Cillian Murphy".
