The world's largest Tesla Supercharger station opens in Shanghai

Anthony Garreffa | Electric Vehicles & Cars | Dec 31, 2020 10:47 PM CST

Tesla has just opened up and turned on the world's largest Supercharger station located in Shanghai, China -- as seen by @JayinShanghai on Twitter.

The world's largest Tesla Supercharger station opens in Shanghai

The new Tesla Supercharger station in Shanghai has 72 stalls for Tesla EVs which is much bigger than the 56-stall facility in Fresno County, California. The Supercharger station in California is outdoors, while the new one in Shanghai is undercover.

You'll find the new Tesla Supercharger station at the Jing'an International Center in Shanghai, with the 72 stalls using V2 Superchargers that are capable of delivering 150 kW. The ones in California use 250 kW V3 chargers, so the Tesla Supercharger station definitely charges Model 3 and Model Y EVs (they support V3 charging) faster in the US.

ASUS ROG Zephyrus GA15 GA503QS packs RTX 3080 with 16GB of VRAM?!

Anthony Garreffa | Laptops | Dec 31, 2020 10:16 PM CST

ASUS is preparing its next-gen ROG Zephyrus GA15 GA503QS gaming laptop which packs the Zen 3-based AMD Ryzen 7 5800HS processor (which should be an 8-core, 16-thread model).

ASUS ROG Zephyrus GA15 GA503QS packs RTX 3080 with 16GB of VRAM?!

Inside, the Ryzen 7 5800HS processor will be joined by an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 graphics card with something very interesting: 16GB of VRAM. If it does indeed pack 16GB of GDDR6, the ROG Zephyrus GA15 GA503QS will be one of the first laptops to pack a GPU with 16GB of VRAM.

We should expect the full-fat GA102 GPU with 6144 CUDA cores, which means it has more CUDA cores than the desktop GeForce RTX 3070 graphics card. The GeForce RTX 3080 inside of the ROG Zephyrus GA15 GA503QS is on a 256-bit memory bus with its memory expected to be at least 14Gbps, meaning we should have 448GB/sec of memory bandwidth.

Intel Core i9-11900K appears again in new CPU-Z benchmarks

Anthony Garreffa | Processors | Dec 31, 2020 9:07 PM CST

Intel is getting closer and closer to the big Rocket Lake-S unleashing in March 2021 with some new leaked benchmarks on Intel's upcoming flagship Core i9-11900K that sees it boasting some impressive gains in IPC performance.

Intel Core i9-11900K appears again in new CPU-Z benchmarks

The purported Core i9-11900K processor is run through the CPU-Z single-threaded benchmark with a score of 695.4 points, a massive 19% improvement over the Core i9-10900K -- showing the great IPC improvements. In the same single-threaded CPU-Z benchmark the Core i9-11900K is 3% faster than AMD's best Zen 3-based Ryzen 9 5950X processor.

But in multi-threaded tests AMD still kills with the Ryzen 9 5950X pumping away at 90% faster than the new Core i9-11900K that isn't even out yet.

This Cyberpunk 2077 mod tweaks the behavior of NPCs in the game

Anthony Garreffa | Gaming | Dec 31, 2020 7:24 PM CST

Cyberpunk 2077 can do with as much performance as you can throw at it, but now we have a new mod called Alternate Crowd Behavior which improves performance by making tweaks to NPCs.

This Cyberpunk 2077 mod tweaks the behavior of NPCs in the game

The way it works is that Alernate Crowd Behavior makes tweaks to how crowds are generated in Cyberpunk 2077, but also how they move and how they interact with another NPC. You can download the new Cyberpunk 2077 Alternate Crowd Behavior here at Nexus Mods.

Cyberpunk 2077 can run on an Atari VCS (but it's pretty bad)

Derek Strickland | Gaming | Dec 31, 2020 6:44 PM CST

The Atari VCS can actually run PC games via Linux and Windows 10, but modern games like Cyberpunk 2077 are pretty janky.

Cyberpunk 2077 can run on an Atari VCS (but it's pretty bad)

On paper, the Atari VCS isn't anything to write home about. The system is billed as a PC-console "connected device" hybrid but is pretty weak. The Atari VCS sports a 14nm Ryzen Embedded R1606G APU with a dual-core Zen CPU and an integrated Radeon Vega 3 GPU, which isn't really enough for modern games. You're scraping the bottom of the barrel here when running Cyberpunk 2077 on the VCS.

That being said, Cyberpunk 2077 does technically run. YouTuber Kevin Kenson just put out a video detailing how CD Projekt RED's big new game runs on the Atari SoC. The short answer...not well. The game will actually run, but you have to crank the settings down to their minimum and the performance is still a choppy mess.

Destiny 2 maintains consistent 120FPS variable 1440p on PS5, Series X

Derek Strickland | Gaming | Dec 31, 2020 4:39 PM CST

A new FPS test from VG Tech illustrates how the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X can both maintain consistent 120FPS in Destiny 2 on variable refresh displays.

Destiny 2 maintains consistent 120FPS variable 1440p on PS5, Series X

120FPS games aren't super widespread on next-gen consoles, but a handful of titles like Destiny 2, The Master Chief Collection, Dirt 5, Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War, and Rainbow Six Siege can all hit the blistering-fast frame rate. Devs are coming right out of the gate with big optimizations that leverage the new Zen 2 CPUs and Navi 2x GPUs found in the PS5 and Xbox Series X. These games can technically hit 120FPS...but how often do they stay there?

A new comparison video from VG Tech shows that Destiny 2 hits a stable 120FPS on both consoles without any major fluctuations. The higher 120FPS mode is only available in the PVP Crucible gametype, and the game reverts to a dynamic 1440p resolution in order to hit such a high frame rate. Still, though, the game doesn't drop below 117 FPS the entire time...which is a pretty big development for console hardware.

This modded Nintendo 64 handheld console is the size of a cartridge

Derek Strickland | Gaming | Dec 31, 2020 3:40 PM CST

GmanModz has created the world's smallest Nintendo 64 portable build that actually plays original console cartridges.

This modded Nintendo 64 handheld console is the size of a cartridge

We've seen lots of awesome handheld creations over the years. Shankmods created a Wii that fits in your pocket, and even squeezed an entire Wii into a tiny Altoids tin. Now GmanModz has broken records with the smallest Nintendo 64 handheld ever made.

GmanModz didn't use any custom PCBs for the build. "Instead I used good old-fashioned board trimming, hand-wiring, and hot glue," he said. Gman was able to shave off space by using JoyCon analog sticks, which reduced the overall length, and a single 1860mAh battery cell, which reduces the thickness and powers the system for about 1 hour 31 minutes. The build is actually over 82,000 cubic centimeters (or roughly 23%) smaller than the previous record holder.

Boston Dynamics shows off its robot, which now dances better than me

Anthony Garreffa | Science, Space, & Robotics | Dec 31, 2020 2:56 AM CST

Boston Dynamics is showing off the latest, and quite simply incredible engineering prowess in having its most advanced robot yet dancing -- with fully choreographed moves I might add -- to "Do you love me" by The Contours.

Boston Dynamics shows off its robot, which now dances better than me

The robots were dancing with incredible precision, doing the twist, mashed potato and other moves that Tesla CEO and AI enthusiast Elon Musk tweeting: "This is not CGI". Looking at the video it's a scary thought, first of how far AI and robotics has come and two that our robotic overlords are better dancers than most of us.

Boston Dynamics was recently acquired by Hyundai earlier this year, in a deal worth almost $900 million.

LG teases 55-inch transparent OLED in sushi bar of the future

Anthony Garreffa | Displays | Dec 31, 2020 1:26 AM CST

LG Display is getting out and a few days ahead of CES 2021 to show off its next step in transparent OLED TV technology.

LG teases 55-inch transparent OLED in sushi bar of the future

The company has just teased its new 55-inch transparent OLED display in a future sushi bar, where restaurant goers would be browsing the menu or even watching videos on the transparent OLED. Not only that, but you could watch the chefs themselves preparing your meal behind it as it rocks a hygienic partition -- thanks, COVID -- and 40% transparency.

A transparent LCD on the other hand, would have just 10% transparency -- showing how good OLED is in comparison with 40% transparency in its current state. The new transparent OLED wouldn't just have a place in the restaurants of the future, but also at the end of a "smart bed" according to LG.

Anthony Garreffa | Graphics Cards | Dec 31, 2020 12:50 AM CST

GALAX has just unveiled two new custom GeForce RTX 3090 and GeForce RTX 3080 graphics cards before the New Year rings in -- with the new CLASSIC series cards with blower-style fans. Check them out:

GALAX's new RTX 3090, RTX 3080 CLASSIC cards have blower cooler design

The new GALAX RTX 3090 and RTX 3080 CLASSIC series graphics cards feature blower-style designs and you wouldn't really tell the difference between them. I've only got the RTX 3090 pictured here, but they both look identical. Both cards will require 2 x 8-pin PCIe power connectors, with TDPs of 350W for the RTX 3090 CLASSIC and 320W for the RTX 3080 CLASSIC.

At the end of the card you have the standard 1 x HDMI 2.1 and 3 x DP 1.4 connectors as well as a helluva lot of heat sink -- it is chunky down in there.

We now have Call of Duty themed GeForce RTX 3080, RTX 3070 cards

Anthony Garreffa | Gaming | Dec 31, 2020 12:28 AM CST

Emtek has just announced two new custom GeForce RTX 3080 and RTX 3070 graphics cards, with the new RTX 3080 HV Black Monster COD Edition and RTX 3070 HV Black Monster COD Edition graphics cards.

We now have Call of Duty themed GeForce RTX 3080, RTX 3070 cards

The new Emtek GeForce RTX 3080 HV Black Monster COD Edition graphics card, and its RTX 3070 counterpart are only available in South Korea. The flagship Emtek GeForce RTX 3080 HV Black Monster COD Edition requires 3 x 8-pin PCIe power connectors and rocks a 370W TGP which is one of the highest TGPs out of all of the custom RTX 3080s.

There's some slick RGB lighting on the top and front of the card, with a super-unique Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War themed backplate that looks pretty bad ass. If you're into Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, and live in South Korea, and can actually find one of the Emtek RTX 3080/3070 HV Black Monster COD Edition graphics cards then you will probably want to grab one pretty quick.

This is our very first look at STALKER 2 -- with in-game footage shown

GSC Game World has come out teasing the very first official in-engine gameplay teaser of STALKER 2, check it out:

This is our very first look at STALKER 2 -- with in-game footage shown

What we're seeing here isn't really gameplay, but rather GSC has created the look and feel of what the developer expects the final gameplay and world of STALKER 2 to be -- all in Unreal Engine 4, made by Epic Games. It looks great, but it's not mind blowing just yet -- and has to stand up against Cyberpunk 2077.

GSC explains: "[This gameplay teaser represents] how the game actually feels: fast-paced changes of scenery, ominous landscapes and the ever-present feeling of an inevitable danger accompanied by a barely-distinguishable guitar soundtrack".

In a statement to TweakTown, Sabrent explained: "Big business moving out of California continue to increase, now Sabrent joins the list and began doing so at the beginning of 2020. The target location for Sabrent is Florida, which offers a competitive business environment".

"Sabrent states that to continue to be competitive in the storage market, they have looked elsewhere for a more business-friendly location so Sabrent can continue to innovate advanced storage solutions for the ever-growing storage market. What will it take for California to change this increasing trend? Wildfires, power outages, and COVID lockdowns continue to frustrate businesses and force them to look elsewhere to operate".

GIGABYTE announces Radeon RX 6900 XT Gaming OC graphics card

The new Radeon RX 6900 XT Gaming OC graphics card from GIGABYTE is their fastest custom RX 6900 XT yet, but there will be an AORUS version of the RX 6900 XT announced sometime in 2021. For now, we have GIGABYTE cooling the card with its WindForce 3X cooling design, packing a triple-fan cooler, the use of graphene nano lubricant, and more.

GIGABYTE is using 3 x 80mm fans that each have 11 blade, with a plastic shroud on the front -- the fans themselves use nano lubricant which reportedly offers the same lifespan as dual ball bearings, but they're quieter. The fans also spin in alternate mode that reduces the turbulence of other fans, increasing air pressure.

John McAfee has hours left, will eat his own d*ck if BTC isn't $500K

Anthony Garreffa | Cryptocurrency & Mining | Dec 30, 2020 9:59 PM CST

John McAfee very famously said back in 2017 that he predicted Bitcoin would be "$500,000 by the end of 2020" and that if he didn't, he would "eat my dick if wrong".

John McAfee has hours left, will eat his own d*ck if BTC isn't $500K

Bitcoin has just reached a new all-time high of $29,000 and could soon breach $30,000 but we're not quite at the $500,000 level where McAfee would like it. Far from it -- but McAfee did promise he'd eat his own meat if BTC wasn't at $500,000 by the end of 2020 -- where it would need to burst out 10x over its current price to reach $500K.

BTC had a high volume push right through the $28,500 resistance level, and now the new sights are on the juicy $30,000 target. Material Indicators have data that shows there are large sell walls at the $30,000 level at major cryptocurrency exchanges like Binance.

But what happens once BTC breaches $30K?
