Beat Dark Souls, Sekiro, Bloodborne? Try this Soulsborne for just $10
NiOh 2, one of the best Soulsborne games on the market, is just $10 right now on Walmart.com.
If you've beaten Sekiro, Dark Souls, and Bloodborne, and find yourself wanting a new challenge, definitely pick up NiOh 2 on Walmart. The PS4 version is just $10 and offers quite a bit of bang for your buck, including intense demon-slaying chaos, Oni transformations, and big upgrades over the original insofar as loot and mechanics.
The game has a deep Japanese folklore-fantasy scope and taps into history and legend, complete with excruciatingly challenging hack-and-slash combat. The bossfights are over the top, the combat is fluid and innovative with multiple stances and weapon types, and there's lots of room for experimentation with the new Oni powers and transformations.

Dying Light 2 writer might've left because the game is already done
Dying Light 2 narrative director Pawel Selinger recently left Techland after 22 years with the studio. What if he left because the project is finished?
Dying Light 2 has had a rocky development timeline. First the game was delayed indefinitely so Techland could target next-gen consoles. Then Chris Avellone, the game's previous writer, was embroiled in controversy, forcing Techland to find a new writer.
Now Selinger is leaving the company. The popular consensus is that Selinger is leaving because of Techland's internal problems, and that Dying Light 2 could be in development hell similar to Dead Island 2. But what if this isn't the case? What if the game is already written and Selinger is simply moving on because the work is finished?

GTA V on PS5, Series X could use upgraded Red Dead Redemption 2 engine
Grand Theft Auto V's upcoming next-gen version might be built off of Red Dead Redemption 2's enhanced RAGE engine tech, possibly with more optimizations and upgrades.
Rockstar plans to bring GTA V to PS5 and Xbox Series X in 2021, complete with a standalone version of GTA Online. New tidbits found in GTA V's source code hints the game will be built from RDR2's excellent RAGE engine optimizations. The code was uncovered by GTA Forums user Tez2 and directly references RDR2's RAGE version.
Remember that Red Dead Redemption 2 was built from the ground up for the PS4, PS4 Pro, and Xbox family of consoles, so its RAGE engine is specifically designed to harness the power of those systems. Expect Rockstar to tweak the engine to utilize the full might of the PS5 and Xbox Series X SoCs, which include Navi 2 GPUs and Zen 2 CPUs, as well as hefty16GB GDDR6 RAM upgrades.

Amazon is pulling the plug on Parler's servers after US Capitol attack
Parler CEO John Matze has confirmed that Amazon is shutting down all of their servers, which are connected to Amazon Web Services (AWS) and if it can't find a new host before then, Parler goes dark.
Apple has removed the Parler app from the Apple App Store, so too has Google from its Play Store -- and now Amazon removing Parler from AWS and being online at all. Amazon will pull their servers sometime today, unless Parler has a new host in the coming hours.
Why is Parler being wiped off of AWS? In an email received by BuzzFeed News, a member of Amazon Web Services Trust and Safety team told Parler "it violated its terms and services, adding that Amazon is unconvinced Parler will be able to effectively moderate its platform relying only on a team of volunteers".

Ground Zero: Texas remastered, prepare for the awesome 90s FMV classic
Ground Zero: Texas was one of my favorite games on the Sega CD all the way back in 1993, so it comes with much excitement to deliver news to you that the FMV classic is being remastered. Introducing Ground Zero: Texas - Nuclear Edition.
It is looking much better than its garbage look on the Sega CD at the time with 3000 layers of interlacing, but the remaster in Ground Zero: Texas - Nuclear Edition is looking quite great. Ground Zero: Texas was originally developed for the Sega CD by Digital Pictures, and saw you taking on an alien invasion in the town of El Cadron.
It's an FMV (full-motion video) with real actors, that you "shoot" and they "react" to your shot. It was played with a controller at the time, and saw gameplay from the FMV shooter that blended the American Laser Games series with the camera-switching, puzzle-solving of games like Night Trap and Double Switch.

Chinese electric startup NIO unveils Tesla competitor with 5G tech
Chinese electric vehicle startup NIO has just unveiled their new electric car, the new NIO ET7 being a fully autonomous, massive battery beast that can take on Tesla.
NIO has been referred to as "the Tesla of China" where it has been selling electric SUVs in the Chinese market for a while now, but at NIO Day 2020 in Chengdu, China yesterday -- the company unveiled their new NIO ET7 vehicle which has a list of great features, power, and technology.
We're looking at a 480 kW dual motor drivetrain with a battery pack that scales up to 150 kWh, with up to 621 miles (1000km). You'll probably never get close to it, but you should get upwards of that -- so expect around 500 miles of driving on a single charge in the NIO ET7.

It seems AMD Ryzen 9 5900 and Ryzen 7 5800 non-XT CPUs are on the way
It looks like AMD is working on two new Zen 3-based CPUs with the purported Ryzen 9 5900 and Ryzen 7 5800 processors, both non-XT versions of the Ryzen 9 5900X and Ryzen 7 5800X that are already out.
The new Ryzen 9 5900 and Ryzen 7 5800 will reportedly both be 65W chips, a 40W reduction from the X-series processors. AMD's upcoming Ryzen 9 5900 will be a 12-core, 24-thread CPU with a base clock of 3.0GHz and boost of 4.7GHz with 70MB of cache.
AMD's upcoming Ryzen 7 5800 will be an 8-core, 16-thread offering with a higher base clock of 3.4GHz and slower boost clock of 4.6GHz with 36MB of cache. But the thing is: you might not even be able to buy them as AMD could sell them to OEM partners instead of retail packages to consumers.

Intel's next-gen Rocket Lake-S pushed to 6.9GHz with LN2 cooling
Intel hasn't even released its next-gen Rocket Lake-S 11th Gen desktop CPUs and they've already been overclocked behind the scenes to a pretty crazy 6.9GHz. I was alerted to the news when VWorld (@PttpcWorld) mentioned TweakTown in a tweet, and then I saw the awesome sauce:
The new 8-core Rocket Lake-S processor was overclocked to 6923.56MHz using LN2 cooling, with a 61x multiplier and 113.50MHz bus speed. The overclockers used 8GB of DDR4 memory clocked at 6666.66MHz -- yeah, that's not a mistake, the DDR4 was overclocked to 6666.66MHz.
We should expect Intel to talk about and possibly announce and detail its next-gen Rocket Lake-S family of processors at their virtual CES 2021 keynote on January 11.

Yep, NVIDIA will be showing off GeForce RTX 30 mobile GPUs on Jan 12
NVIDIA has given us a brief tease of what is to come at its GeForce RTX: Game On event on January 12, where we will be seeing their new GeForce RTX 30 series mobile GPUs unveiled.
It looks like we will be introduced to the GeForce RTX 3080 mobile GPU with 16GB of GDDR6 memory, as well as a GeForce RTX 3070 mobile GPU with 8GB of GDDR6. The video also teased a new game called Outriders, with a free demo dropping on February 25 and should include some GeForce RTX features and technology.
Not only that, but NVIDIA seems to be teasing something that could be a desktop GeForce RTX graphics card -- so maybe we'll see the company unveil its new GeForce RTX 3060 ULTRA with 12GB of GDDR6 that was teased recently, but in Founders Edition form of course.

Sabrent RocketQ Battleship SSD teased with 64TB at PCIe 4.0 speeds
Sabrent has started 2021 off with a gigantic bang, sinking their competitors' battleships with their own RocketQ Battleship, which offers unprecedented storage capacity with a gigantic 64TB!
The company is using 8 of its RocketQ NVMe 8TB SSDs on a single x16 PCIe 4.0 (backwards compatible) port that will give you not just an insane 64TB of capacity, but with ultra-fast speeds. Sabrent is using Highpoint's new SSD7540 8-port PCIe 4.0 x16 M.2 NVMe RAID controller which is capable of 28,000MB/sec (28GB/sec) transfer speeds.
The new RocketQ Battleship might not end up being made into a retail product for consumers, but rather something the company is playing around and testing with in their labs. I love the name and hopefully they stick with it, because it's perfect: RocketQ Battleship has unlimited marketing potential.

Switch sold 6.2 million consoles in Japan, made up 87% of 2020 sales
The Switch has absolutely annihilated the PS4 and Xbox One in Japan, compromising 87% of total console sales in 2020.

Lenovo reveals Switch-like concept mini-PC, the LaVie Mini
Lenovo takes a direct shot at Nintendo with a transforming Switch-like mini PC, the LaVie Mini.
The Switch's Tegra X1 is pretty underpowered and leads to limited in-game performance. Lenovo wants to break the Switch's shackles with its new LaVie Mini concept PC. The computer is a fully-fledged Windows 10 PC that marries the Switch's trademark portability and transformability with new high-powered hardware.
The LaVie Mini sports Intel's new 11th generation chips, including a Core i7-1180G7 CPU and integrated Xe Iris graphics. It's lightweight, has an 8-inch 1920x1200 resolution touchscreen, and even has attachable/detachable side controllers just like the Switch's JoyCons. There's even an HDMI dock that lets you continue gaming on an HDTV to promote seamless, swappable gaming (just like the Switch).

Sony might've killed the Killzone franchise, new games may not happen
Sony might've flipped the kill switch on PlayStation's answer to the Halo franchise.
Killzone's official website has been retired and now delivers a message thanking fans for their "enthusiasm and support." It's no longer possible to see stats on the website, nor can gamers create or manage clans in Killzone Shadow Fall. The consensus is that Sony may have closed development on the Killzone franchise as a whole. Multiplayer isn't the same if you can't track your stats with an external site, and this kind of cross-platform integration is a boon for PVP engagement. The elimination of this kind of info might be a signal that the IP is being put on the back burner.
This message is now up on the Killzone.com website:

Epic Games buys gaming's most-used data compression technology
Epic Games just made one of the most strategic acquisitions in its history by buying RAD Game Tools.
Epic Games now owns RAD Game Tools, the company behind some of the most-used game environment tools in the industry. RAD Game Tools includes Bink Video, proprietary file format tech that's been used in the industry for the past 21 years, along with Oodle data compression technology. Oodle's next-gen Kraken is the compression tech used in the PlayStation 5's I/O hardware and makes the higher 9GB/sec transfer rates possible on the PCIe 4.0 SSD. Oodle is used in countless games to reduce overall data footprint and compress high-res assets.
RAD will directly integrate its toolset into Unreal Engine, but has no plans to make its tools exclusive to Unreal Engine projects.

Dragon Age executive producer shares new Dragon Age 4 concept art
BioWare's new Dragon Age executive producer rings in the new year with some fresh Dragon Age 4 concept art.
Christian Dailey recently took over the role of Dragon Age producer from 23-year BioWare veteran Mark Darrah. Now Dailey kicks off 2021 with a neat glimpse at Dragon Age 4's archer, complete with the fancy magical bow (possibly lyrium) showcased in the game's first-ever in-engine footage.
BioWare recently dropped a bunch of Dragon Age 4 concept art revealing an exotic fantasy style unlike anything else in the series. Dragon Age writer Patrick Weekes warned gamers not to look too closely into the concept art and extract info through the visuals. Concept art is a nebulous guide that helps shape the worlds but doesn't always explicitly define them.

Even Earth's spin speed couldn't escape 2020 unharmed, here's why
Most people are happy to say goodbye to 2020 as it was a very rough year, but if it makes you feel any better, even the Earth was affected in 2020.
In 2020, the 28 fastest days since 1960 were recorded for the Earth spinning. While that may not seem like a big deal for everyday life, it is a big deal for international timekeepers that are using the ultra-accurate atomic clocks to meter out the Coordinated Universal Time (UTC), which is then used by everyone's clocks in everyday life. The astronomical time is determined by how long it takes the Earth to do a full rotation, and when the recorded time deviates by more than 0.4 seconds, the UTC will be adjusted accordingly.
Since the late 1960s and early 1970s, scientists have observed through satellites that the Earth's rotation speed has been slowing, which has then caused researchers to add a "leap second" to the end of June or December. However, researchers have now observed that the Earth's spin has increased in speed, which has now caused scientists to begin a discussion about a negative leap second (subtracting a second).

Nolo prepping a standalone VR headset for companies to rebrand
VRFocus reports that Nolo is preparing an ODM (original design manufacturer) standalone VR headset for companies interested in getting into the VR device market without the upfront R&D costs.
Nolo has been around in the VR space for several years now, and the company has carved out a nice niche within the market. Nolo builds an aftermarket tracking solution that can convert any VR headset into a 6DoF system with motion controllers.
Nolo's SodarTraq tracking system uses ultrasonic technology for its positional tracking, which usually requires a tracking ball that attaches to the headset. Nolo's ODM headset will include this tracking system embedded into the device. The headset also includes dual front-facing cameras, which support SLAM (simultaneous localization and mapping) positional tracking for headset positioning.
