Epic: 'Battle. Adapt. Win' tease for Season 4 of Fortnite

| Apr 26, 2018 11:28 PM CDT

Fortnite players have been wondering WTF is going on with the meteor strike in the game, with everyone having a different opinion as they're bursting through the atmosphere and exploding into the ground.

Epic: 'Battle. Adapt. Win' tease for Season 4 of Fortnite

The developers of Fortnite are such trolls that they even built a "doomsday cult" hangout at the top of one of the buildings in the latest update to the game, just to have a laugh. But now that meteors are smashing into the ground, Fortnite players are up in arms about what is about to change.

We don't know what the meteors will do in Fortnite, with people thinking that the will blow up the Twisted Towers and change the map. Others think it could be an alien spaceship that might introduce new enemies, and other changes... while developer Epic Games has been virtually silent about it... until now.

Pokemon Switch RPG listed as 2018 or later

| Apr 26, 2018 5:19 PM CDT

Announced at E3 2017, the Pokemon RPG for the Nintendo Switch was originally slated for release in 2018 but the game may miss its release target.

Pokemon Switch RPG listed as 2018 or later

Nintendo's latest financial earnings give key insight on the future of the company's software and hardware plans, but also allows gamers to gauge expectations on future game releases. One of the most anticipated Switch games is the Pokemon RPG that's supposed to launch this year, but Nintendo now lists it as "2018 or later". The other high profile first-party game Super Smash Bros. is locked in for 2018, whereas Metroid Prime 4 is still marked as TBD.

To get a better picture at what's going on with the Switch's games lineup I took a quick gander at Nintendo's internal Switch software forecasts for the current fiscal year. For FY2018 (April 1, 2018 - March 31, 2019) Nintendo expects to sell a whopping 100 million in combined digital and physical software for the console, representing a big 45% jump from FY2017's 68.97 million software sales units.

Nintendo sold 15 million Switch consoles in FY2017

| Apr 26, 2018 4:17 PM CDT

Nintendo's recent yearly financials show strong growth across the board, and its recent Switch hybrid system continues to accelerate sales.

Nintendo sold 15 million Switch consoles in FY2017

Nintendo just posted up its earnings for the fiscal year ended March 2018 (Fiscal Year 2017) and the results are superb. The Japanese games-maker sold 15.05 million Switch units in the fiscal year, meeting its internal hardware target while pushing total cumulative Switch console sales to 17.79 million. A gander at quarterly results reveals that 2.92 million Switch consoles were sold in the fourth quarter period from Jan - March 2018, down about 60% from the previous holiday quarter.

This is just the beginning though: Nintendo expects to push 20 million Switch units throughout the FY2018 timeline (April 1, 2018 - March 31, 2019), strongly hinting that the company has ironed out any supply issues while also planning out a strong continued momentum for both first-party and third-party software. If Nintendo were to meet this goal it would put total Switch sales at 37.79 million in just two years' time.

Nintendo president Tatsumi Kimishima to step down

| Apr 26, 2018 3:38 PM CDT

Nintendo's current acting president Tatsumi Kimishima will step down to hand off the position to a younger company executive.

Nintendo president Tatsumi Kimishima to step down

In an effort to better reach and understand a new generation of gamers, Nintendo President Tatsumi Kimishima will relinquish his position to 46-year-old Shuntaro Furukawa, Japanese website Nikkei reports. Mr. Furukawa has a long-standing 15-year history at Nintendo and helped plan out marketing for the Switch--a move that helped the console shift almost 18 million units to date.

Mr. Kimishima steps down on June 28, but will stay on in an advisory role, and Mr. Furukawa's appointment represents Nintendo's new shift towards younger management. Interestingly enough it appears Nintendo actually planned for Mr. Kimishima to be a temporary president until the Switch's hardware sales solidified, in which the mantle would pass to Mr. Furukawa.

So going forward, we will make sure that we get our interface and everything right for the PC audience as well."

Ninja Theory, the developers Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice were also surprised at the amount of players that choose to play the title with a keyboard and mouse instead of a controller. "We were so surprised that so many people played the game with mouse and keyboard, and we dropped the ball a little bit at the start. New Dragon Age could be mainline sequel

| Apr 25, 2018 6:25 PM CDT

BioWare's next Dragon Age game is in the works, but with its new juggernaut release Anthem on the horizon, the game could take some time before it releases...but it also could be a big AAA mainline game.

New Dragon Age could be mainline sequel

We've known for a while that BioWare is making a new Dragon Age game, and that Sunless Sea's Alexis Kennedy is helping the devs write a portion of the game. All of the info we know so far strongly hints the game will be a big-budget affair versus a smaller-scale spin-off (Mass Effect: Andromeda's failures notwithstanding). Now BioWare's Mark Darrah might've just hinted the game is a direct sequel.

In a long Twitter thread chronicling Darrah's development career, the BioWare dev outlined everything that led up to his current position as Executive Producer on Anthem, the studio's massively ambitious new online-based action-RPG. At the very end he directly refers to the next Dragon Age game as "DA4", and says that he's the exec producer on that project too.

Halo devs: PC community is very important to us

| Apr 25, 2018 5:25 PM CDT

343 Industries could be working on bringing authentic Halo multiplayer to PC in some form--could it be Halo: Master Chief Collection or maybe an official worldwide rollout of Halo Online?

Halo devs: PC community is very important to us

In its official statement surrounding the unauthorized Eldewrito Halo Online PC mod 343i both confirmed the mod itself will be put on hiatus while saying something else quite interesting: the team is excited about bringing an "official classic Halo experience" to PC at some point. In fact the Halo devs are so impressed with Eldewrito's most recently 0.6 update that they want to team up with the team in a bid to broaden community-driven tools and creations across the Halo fanbase.

Here's 343i's full statement on the matter: "One thing remains clear - the community really wants more Halo on PC. As we look ahead, we're very excited about the prospects of an official classic Halo experience making its way to PC and we hope to be able to partner with the ElDewrito team and broader mod and content creation community to help inform the types of experiences and features our fans desire. While we have nothing to announce today, please know that the PC community is very important to us and top of mind as we work towards the future," the developers said in the post.

Modded Halo Online PC project under fire by Microsoft

| Apr 25, 2018 4:38 PM CDT

Halo Online, which brought an authentic Halo 3 multiplayer experience to PC, has been resurrected and revamped thanks to the most recent Eldewrito 0.6 update...but Microsoft and 343i are taking measures to get it yanked offline.

Modded Halo Online PC project under fire by Microsoft

In a blog post 343 Industries says it has a "non-optional" obligation to protect its intellectual property, and that the Eldewrito project directly violates its IP rights because it was built on company-owned assets and content that weren't technically released. Unlike Installation 01, which is built on its own game engine and fits in line with Microsoft's rules, Eldewrito is built on the Halo Online game that was built by 343i and Saber Interactive and only available in Russia.

"While we are humbled and inspired to see the amount of passion poured into this project, the fact remains that it's built upon Microsoft-owned assets that were never lawfully released or authorized for this purpose. As this project reverberated across the community, our team took a step back to assess the materials and explore possible avenues, while Microsoft, like any company, has a responsibility to protect its IP, code and trademarks. It's not optional in other words."

H1Z1 is locked at 60FPS on the PS4 Pro

| Apr 24, 2018 9:34 PM CDT

H1Z1 started the entire Battle Royale thing years ago before PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds and Fortnite were born, with the game arriving on the PS4 on May 22 in beta form.

H1Z1 is locked at 60FPS on the PS4 Pro

The game will still be a free-to-play title with cosmetic items costing you money, but the developer has made some tweaks to H1Z1 for the PS4 that will see new progression mechanics that will speed the game up. This means the deadly gas that is like the zone in PUBG has been increased, while airdrop frequency is faster.

H1Z1 will have a surprise for PS4 Pro owners with 'resolution gains' over the PS4 version, and guaranteed 60FPS gameplay, something the team has "fully optimized" the code for. The normal PS4 will run at a minimum of 45FPS, which is nothing to sneeze at. With the tweaks that the developer has made to the PS4 version of H1Z1, we should expect a Battlegrounds like experience with the speed of Fortnite, with matches lasting for around 15 minutes or so.
