Keanu Reeves is almost a 'second protagonist' in Cyberpunk

| Jun 13, 2019 12:43 PM CDT

E3 2019 - Keanu Reeves will be a huge part of Cyberpunk 2077's storyline. In fact, CDPR says he's almost like a second protagonist.

Keanu Reeves is almost a 'second protagonist' in Cyberpunk

Keanu isn't just a star cameo in Cyberpunk 2077. As Johnny Silverhand, ex-rocker of Cyberpunk's most notorious band the Samurai, Keanu will play a pivotal and expansive part in CD Projekt RED's new sci-fi opus. The sultry surfer bro turned murderous assassin will be with you for most of the game. "It's definitely not a cameo. Johnny is one of the main characters in the game. You could even say he's like a second protagonist almost," CD Projekt RED quest director Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz said in a recent interview with YongYea.

"You'll interact with him throughout the majority of the game and a lot of the plot revolves around him. He has a complicated relationship with V and you can form this relationship in different ways based on how you play throughout the game."

Atari VCS has upgradable RAM

| Jun 13, 2019 11:40 AM CDT

E3 2019 - Atari opens up pre-orders for its Atari VCS console across major retailers, and reveals the system's RAM can be upgraded.

Atari VCS has upgradable RAM

Atari is keen on resurrecting its old-school console brand to the modern age with its new VCS system. It seems like an iffy bet, but the company is taking the VCS quite seriously, packing it with decent specs like a customized 14nm AMD Ryzen APU with dual Zen CPU cores and a Vega GPU for gaming and 4K video playback. The VCS also got upgraded to 8GB of unified DDR4 memory a bit ago, but apparently the system lets you switch out and upgrade memory sticks, hinting RAM isn't soldered onto the VCS' motherboard.

Right now there's two SKUs for the VCS: the $279 Atari VCS 800 model with 8GB of RAM, and the $249 Atari VCS 400 model with 4GB. Since the memory is upgradable, you could buy the cheaper $249 Atar VCS with 4GB of DDR4 and add in another stick yourself. This is a nice modular addition that consoles don't ever embrace--RAM is usually soldered to the motherboard in today's consoles and laptops.

Nintendo delays games to avoid crunch and ensure quality

| Jun 13, 2019 11:00 AM CDT

E3 2019 - When Nintendo delays a game, it's for two reasons: to avoid crunching developers too hard to meet stern deadlines, and to ensure their games deliver quality. The company won't ever compromise quality for a quick buck.

Nintendo delays games to avoid crunch and ensure quality

Nintendo has stolen industry headlines at E3 for its games, but also for its anti-crunch sentiments. Nintendo of America's new president Doug Bowser had some interesting comments about crunch and how the company will never release a game too early, leading to the new Animal Crossing: New Horizon's delay into 2020. "For us, one of our key tenets is that we bring smiles to people's faces. It's our vision, our mission. That also applies to our own employees. We need to make sure there's a good work-life balance," Bowser told IGN.

"Part of this balance is that we will not bring a game to market before it's ready. It's really important that we have that balance in our world. It's actually something we're proud of."

This is why Bayonetta 3 wasn't shown off at E3 2019

| Jun 13, 2019 5:00 AM CDT

E3 2019 - PlatinumGames has had quite the strong presentation for this years E3, but one title most people expected to be shown off wasn't and here is why.

This is why Bayonetta 3 wasn't shown off at E3 2019

After the Nintendo Direct many fans of PlatinumGames' titles were wondering where the third instalment in the Bayonetta series was, and if the development was still on track. Luckily, PlatinumGames' Atsushi Inaba spoke out about the title to Video Games Chronicle, reassuring fans there was a reason why they didn't see Bayonetta 3 at E3.

According to Inaba, "Giving updates for everything at E3 isn't the smartest PR strategy to begin with. So just because we're not showing it here doesn't mean it's not going well." A follow up question was posed to Inaba regarding the quality of the title, Inaba responded with "Yes, it's going to be a high quality title and we're putting our all into it. That is what you're seeing".

Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild sequel returns to Hyrule

| Jun 13, 2019 3:00 AM CDT

E3 2019 - During the Nintendo's E3 Direct we learned that the sequel to the critically acclaimed The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild will be getting a sequel, but where is the games setting?

Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild sequel returns to Hyrule

According to an interview with Game Informer, Breath of the Wild producer, Eiji Aonuma spoke out about the games location and where players will be adventuring to this time round. Aonuma says that "One of the reasons we wanted to create a continuation was because I wanted to revisit that Hyrule again and use that world again, while incorporating new gameplay and new story."

Aonuma also touched on some other aspects of the game, such as confirming that Hidemaro Fujibayashi would be returning to the directional role for the sequel and that players won't need an expansion pack to play the game. Aonuma says "It will be a continuation, and it will be come in full form as it is. *laughs*" "

Age of Empires IV information will release 'later this year'

| Jun 13, 2019 1:00 AM CDT

E3 2019 - There is no doubt that real-time strategy game fans are super excited about the release of Age of Empire II: Definitive Edition, but one question still remains in the back of their heads. Where is Age of Empires IV?

Age of Empires IV information will release 'later this year'

According to a recent interview with the Creative Director for the Age of Empires franchise, Adam Isgreen, it isn't long until we find out some more information about the coming title. Isgreen spoke to DualShockers at E3 2019 regarding AoE 4 and he said "The important thing is that even when we do [Age of Empires III: Definitive Edition] and when we are going to start talking about [Age of Empires] 4 later this year, which I am very excited about, we're not going to abandon the games."

So according to Isgreen new information for the mysterious Age of Empires IV will be released later this year. Perhaps we will see a gameplay trailer of some sort, or even a new trailer that isn't an announcement teaser. At the moment all we have to go off of for Age of Empires IV is the above teaser trailer, it reveals very minimal information about the title but I have still managed to throw together a 'Everything we know about Age of Empires IV' here.

CD Projekt RED won't fully embrace live service games

| Jun 12, 2019 9:35 PM CDT

E3 2019 - As the industry shifts towards engagement, roadmaps, and live services with tons of microtransactions, CD Projekt RED's main focus will always be making big narrative-driven singleplayer games.

CD Projekt RED won't fully embrace live service games

Unlike EA or Activision-Blizzard, live services will only ever be additive to CD Projekt RED's business, not the core focus. The company does indeed plan to push farther into service games with new R&D initiatives and expansions for Gwent, it's monetized free-to-play card game, but not at the expense of narrative-driven titles. CDPR will never jeopardize singleplayer RPGs like Cyberpunk 2077 or The Witcher 3.

"For expanding, definitely we're looking to that, but here and now it's big story games like Cyberpunk or Witcher," CD Projekt RED CEO Marcin Iwinski said in a recent E3 Coliseum talk.

CD Projekt RED's new RPG may miss 2021 deadline

| Jun 12, 2019 8:38 PM CDT

E3 2019 - CD Projekt RED's next unannounced RPG may miss its 2021 deadline due to Cyberpunk 2077's massive size and complexity.

CD Projekt RED's new RPG may miss 2021 deadline

Right now CD Projekt RED is working on two games due out by 2021: its incredible-looking new sci-fi shooter Cyberpunk 2077, and another unannounced AAA RPG. The new game, which we expect is based around the Witcher series, probably won't release in time because so many people are still working on Cyberpunk.

In a recent E3 Coliseum interview, CD Projekt RED co-founder and CEO Marcin Iwinski said over half of the company's developers are still working on Cyberpunk. Due to the sheer scope and time required for its biggest games, Iwinski says that simultaneously developing two major AAA titles at once is still a dream for the future. Devs may still have to move from project to project in a linear fashion.

Elden Ring is heavily based on Dark Souls

| Jun 12, 2019 7:42 PM CDT

E3 2019 - Game director Hidetaka Miyazaki confirms FromSoft's new Elden Ring game is heavily based on Dark Souls.

Elden Ring is heavily based on Dark Souls

Elden Ring is a game FromSoftware has always wanted to make. It's been in development for years now--ever since the team wrapped up Dark Souls III's last Ringed City DLC--and represents a true return to high fantasy thanks in no small part to George R.R. Martin, who helped write and shape the game world. The new project is the biggest title FromSoftware has ever made. With a project set in a huge open-world environment, it's only natural Elden Ring will share similarities to FromSoft's previous games. Dark Souls is dead but Elden Ring will thrive in its forebear's ghastly shadow.

Hidetaka Miyazaki confirms Elden Ring will borrow heavily from Dark Souls, which was practically always a given. FromSoft has honed their third-person action combat to a fine point over decades of development and Elden Ring will embrace this skill-based battle system.

Obsidian's new RPG The Outer Worlds blasts off in October

| Jun 12, 2019 7:14 PM CDT

E3 2019 - Obsidian's new planet-hopping RPG shooter releases in October, just in time for the holiday season.

Obsidian's new RPG The Outer Worlds blasts off in October

Obsidian's fresh RPG The Outer Worlds is a lot like Fallout: New Vegas in space, and incorporates lots of classic Fallout themes and mechanics. As well it should, since the project is being developed jointly by Fallout creators Tim Cain and Leonard Boyarsky. We didn't get a lot of new info at E3 2019, but Obsidian dropped a new trailer along with an October 25, 2019 release date.

A bit of new gameplay footage was released, showing some fluid FPS gunplay and an artistic style that blends No Man's Sky's colorful worlds with BioShock's style and Fallout: New Vegas mechanics. Speaking to IGN, Leonard Boyarsky did reveal some Outer Worlds tidbits like have the freedom to kill anyone in the entire game.

Alien: Isolation stalks Nintendo Switch in 2019

| Jun 12, 2019 4:52 PM CDT

E3 2019 - Nintendo today confirmed one of the most terrifying and creepy horror games ever made is coming to the Switch.

Alien: Isolation stalks Nintendo Switch in 2019

The Switch is growing up, and very bloody and mature games like Alien: Isolation are showing up on the handheld-hybrid system. It's quite refreshing to see as Creative Assembly's macabre masterpiece deserves all the praise it can get, and the game will undoubtedly get a lot on its brand new home on the exceptionally lucrative platform.

Set for a launch sometime in 2019, the Switch port of Alien: Isolation is in good hands. It'll be developed by Feral Interactive, who ported the survival horror simulator onto Mac and Linux. We should see inventive use of the Switch's JoyCons accelerometer and gyroscope sensors to allow interactive corner-peeking and such.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake's second episode should come sooner

| Jun 12, 2019 4:30 PM CDT

E3 2019 - Square Enix once again re-clarifies Final Fantasy VII: Remake's multi-episode approach, saying it has a full plan and internal schedule set for future games.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake's second episode should come sooner

Lots of wires have been crossed about the Final Fantasy VII: Remake. It's not just a game, but an episodic series that'll span multiple separate releases. Each episode will be the size of a full game, the publisher says. The two-disc version that launches in March 2020 is just the first episode and there are more on the way.

Square Enix's Yoshinori Kitase previously said the team doesn't really know where the games will go or how long they'll take to develop, leading us to believe the wait is just beginning. Final Fantasy games are notorious for their nebulous, often-long dev cycles. Now Kitase says the team has a roadmap set in place for its future Final Fantasy VII: Remake games, and new episodes shouldn't take as long to make.

Avengers is a live service game with 4 player co-op

| Jun 12, 2019 4:07 PM CDT

E3 2019 - As we predicted long ago, Crystal Dynamics' big new Avengers game is a live service title that'll offer tons of content over time.

Avengers is a live service game with 4 player co-op

The new Avengers game sounds incredibly ambitious. Set in an all-original and gripping story that vilifies the Avengers as shamed heroes, gamers can play as Iron Man, Thor, The Incredible Hulk, Black Widow, and Captain America--all with new designs and voices. Although it's a live game, the Avengers won't be always-online and caters to all kinds of players by including both singleplayer and co-op story content.

It's a third-person action game where up to four players can team up to take on huge battles across an ever-expanding world. An action-adventure game at heart, each Avenger will have their own RPG-esque skill trees that can be customized by players.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare dev: 'we're not out to disgust'

| Jun 12, 2019 3:18 PM CDT

E3 2019 - Infinity Ward says the new Modern Warfare is a spiritual reboot of the franchise, and aims to tell a more grounded, visceral, and impactful story.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare dev: 'we're not out to disgust'

Modern Warfare will have a harrowing and emotional campaign that exhibits the horrors of war. The line separating the good and bad guys has been blurred. Players will take on missions that stain their minds, and perspectives switch back and forth so you never really know who's the enemy. The game now lets you shoot civilians and treats these deaths as penalties in a new collateral damage system, but those around you react to your misdeeds--and your platoon might even turn on you.

At a recent E3 2019 Coliseum talk, Infinity Ward discusses how this story came to be, why the series is getting rebooted, and the main motivations behind this new gritty focus.

Xbox Ones will turn into game streaming servers

| Jun 12, 2019 2:15 PM CDT

E3 2019 - Microsoft is mimicking Sony's Remote Play capability by transforming every Xbox One console into a game streaming server.

Xbox Ones will turn into game streaming servers

Microsoft's ambitious new Project xCloud game streaming service will get a helping hand from existing Xbox One consoles, the company announced at E3 2019. Soon every Xbox One will be able to stream games remotely to on-the-go devices similar to PS4's Remote Play feature. This expands the Xbox One's streaming capabilities to new heights--right now the console can stream games to PCs (and vice-versa) on home networks.

Gamers can choose to stream games from their Xbox One for free, or buy into Project xCloud and use Microsoft's potent server banks to play games on smartphones, tablets, and laptops. Remote console game streaming will be free, Microsoft says, but Project xCloud of course will be a paid subscription service. The company's hybridized and synergistic approach to streaming folds perfectly into its well-planned Xbox service framework.

Dragon Quest 'The Hero' joins Super Smash Bro. Ultimate DLC

| Jun 12, 2019 2:00 AM CDT

E3 2019 - Nintendo have shocked and stunned Smash Bros. Ultimate fans with not one, but two DLC character reveals this E3.

Dragon Quest 'The Hero' joins Super Smash Bro. Ultimate DLC

Square Enix and Nintendo have paired up to bring Smash Bros. Ultimate players characters from the Dragon Quest series. In the above video we are introduced to a character called "The Hero", while this name seems strange, it should be known that 'The Hero' will be able to take form of four different fighters in one. "The Hero" will be able to take form of the four main protagonists from four of the Dragon Quest games; Dragon Quest 3: The Seeds of Salvation, Dragon Quest 4: Chapters of the Chosen, Dragon Quest 7: Journey of the Cursed King and Dragon Quest 11: Echoes of an Elusive Age.

While this may seem overpowered at first glance, 'The Hero' won't be able to swap character mid fight, instead the choice between each of the characters will be much like that of Bower Jr. with the Koopalings. By this standard, we can assume that each of the characters we see in the trailer will have the same move set, and players will just be choosing between the physical appearance or costume. The trailer also reveals that 'The Hero' will be released as apart of the Fighters Pass sometime during the Summer of 2019. For more information, visit the official Nintendo website here.
