Our first look at COD: Black Ops 4's battle royale game mode
Activision unleashes the Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 multiplayer beta later this week, with a new launch trailer showing off the multiplayer side of things, as well as our first look at Call of Duty's first entry into battle royale: Blackout.
The battle royale mode is only teased for roughly 15 seconds in the trailer, but from this quick snippet we have a few things to take away. One of which is that there seems to be two groups of players with four people on each team, which should mean we could expect Black Ops 4 players to be able to play Blackout either on their own, or in a squad with friends.
Blackout characters seem to have a lot of customization to play with, with a player doting a leather duster, and shirts/pants and other prints that are very different to the usual military affair. Activision has to be oh-so-2018 with its political push by teasing a female character model that I'm sure Battlefield fans will be all over.

Core i9-9900K benchmarks see it slaying the competition
Intel is oh-so-close to the release of its new 9th-gen CPUs with the flagship Core i9-9900K to arrive as a huge new, and a first for the company 8C/16T consumer CPU at up to 5GHz... but just how fast will this beast be?
According to a new leaked benchmark in 3DMark, we can indeed expect an 8C/16T processor at 5GHz, with 16MB of L3 cache, 95W TDP, and built-in Intel UHD 620 graphics. As for the raw horsepower, we should expect 3DMark Time Spy scores of 10719 for the CPU, and 9862 overall.
All of this was run on an ASUS ROG Strix Z370-F motherboard, 16GB of G.SKILL DDR4-2666 RAM, a 500GB Samsung 960 EVO SSD, and NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti graphics card. If we compare the score against AMD's new Ryzen 7 2700X (8C/16T as well) the 9900K beats its score of 9387, and even shatters Intel's current-gen Core i7-8700K (6C/12T) with 8935.

NVIDIA teases GeForce Gaming Celebration event for August 20
NVIDIA has just announced its new GeForce Gaming Celebration event for August 20, which will take place at Gamescom 2018 in Cologne, Germany.

Until now, rumors suggested July 30 as the release date for the GeForce GTX 1180 graphics card with an August/September release window that AIB partners told me during Computex 2018... and now that seems the case.
The company has officially announced teh event on their website, saying that it will be "loaded with new, exclusive, hands-on demos of the hottest upcoming games, stage presentations from the world's biggest game developers, and some spectacular surprises". I wonder what those "spectacular surprises" could be, eh?

EA stops giving out free Origin games
EA will no longer give out free PC games on Origin, and we're betting it has a lot to do with the company's new Origin Access Premier subscription.
Like Xbox LIVE's monthly Games With Gold or Sony's free PS Plus games, Origin's On The House promotion was a great tool to keep PC gamers coming back to the storefront and staying engaged. One of the best ways to keep users signing into your platform is to give something for free. But now EA says it has "retired" the initiative after years of gifting great games like Dead Space and Mass Effect 2.
Reddit users first noticed Origin's On The House URL now linked to the general Origin Access page, prompting some speculation. After all, the service doled out a few repeats across the last few months or so. An EA rep confirmed the bad news:

Insomniac's Spider-Man finalized, ready for shipment
After years of hard development work, Insomniac has wrapped its massive new Spider-Man title.
Sony's substantial new PS4 exclusive Spider-Man game has gone gold, meaning its now officially finished and ready to be shipped for its September release date. The game has garnered massive hype for its rather enticing web-slinging and beat-em-up combat action, bringing to mind classic PS2-era games melded with updated graphics, advanced physics systems, and a wider sandbox.
Spider-Man is expected to drive PS4 console sales ahead of Sony's big holiday push and engage the existing playerbase with more singleplayer content, and should be a contender among 2018's biggest games. NPD Group analyst Mat Piscatella predicts Insomniac's Spider-Man will sit in this year's top ten sellers, albeit at the #10 slot.

Bandai Namco to double down on new IPs
Japanese publisher Bandai Namco wants to move towards original IP creation to help bolster earnings.
Any major games-maker-and-publisher combo in the games industry typically has a line of strong, wholly-owned IPs to continually generate sales and revenue. Publishers like Square Enix with its Final Fantasy series or Activision-Blizzard with Call of Duty and Overwatch IPs rake in hundreds of millions (or even billions) a year from their respective titles, all without having to shell out for licenses. Bandai Namco, who typically makes a portion of its game sales from licensed franchises like Dragon Ball Z, wants to embrace this business model.
In a recent interview with GamesIndustry.Biz, Bandai Namco exec Herve Hoerdt says the company wants about half of its games to be new IPs--something Bandai Namco has acted upon with its new Code Vein game.

Netflix release Disenchantment character introduction videos
Disenchantment, Matt Groening's newest T.V show is coming to Netflix on August 17th and ahead of it's launch, Netflix has released four videos introducing us to the three main characters and the Kingdom of Dreamland.
We are only two weeks away from the launch of Matt Groening's newest animated T.V show Disenchanted, and for fans to get to know the characters/setting before the official launch Netflix have released some short videos. The first video introduces us to the main protagonist Bean (Abbi Jacobson), Bean is a princess that wants to figure herself out before getting married, she seems set on choosing her own destiny. The second video we have Elfo (Nat Faxon), Elfo wants to experience more of the world so he ventures away from his homeland to take on one-adventure at a time. Finally, we have Luci (Eric Andre), Luci is Bean's very own personal demon, he is thrown into the trio mix as the character who will bring up all of the terrible ideas.
The fourth video released by Netflix showcases to fans the setting of the animated series, the Kingdom of Dreamland. Dreamland is home to the noble king, a 'friendly' fairy, a decrepit peddler, an educated orge and an executioner who has an entire book of golf jokes. Cyberpunk 2077 is inherently politically charged
CD Projekt Red's Cyberpunk 2077 has been all of the talk since E3 2018, now it has been revealed within the lastest edition of the Official Xbox Magazine (167) that the franchise is more politically charged than you might of thought.
Within the latest Official Xbox Magazine, CD Projekt Red Quest Designer, Patrick Mills took everyone through what the studio was thinking when they are designing the unstable society of Cyberpunk 2077. According to Mills, the developers have created a world where not only violence and mature themes are abundant, but also intellectual challenges are present. Mills says that "Of course, to us, mature doesn't mean just sex and violence. We will try to engage you on multiple levels, not just the visceral, but also the intellectual. Cyberpunk is an inherently political genre and it's an inherently political franchise."
Mills continues and says that Cyberpunk 2077's world is ruled by a very small amount of ultra-rich individuals, they rule from an absolute corporate power structure that forces the less fortunate to be caught up in an endless cycle of poverty and violence against one-another. Mills also discusses the decision of making Cyberpunk 2077 a first-person game instead of third-person, he says that the decision came from the lackluster immersion third-person titles have, an example he gave was "Go play a third-person game, go play The Witcher, and look up. Just try to look straight up. You'll find that the immersion never really works, it never feels like you are looking up. It feels like you're moving a camera around."

Amazon hire Star Trek 4 writers for Lord of the Rings show
The writers for Amazon's next massive T.V project 'The Lord of the Rings' have been revealed, announcing Star Trek 4 writers Patrick McKay and JD Payne, as they have been appointed to tackle the gargantuan project
It has been reported that both JD Payne and Patrick McKay have no previous writing experience, but to calm your shock neither did Game of Thrones writers D.B. Weiss and David Benioff. Amazon must have a lot of faith in both of these writers, as this The Lord of The Rings TV show is going to be the most expensive series ever made, coming in at a massive $1 billion. The writers have come forward and given statements on how excited they are to work on Amazon's project, here is what they had to say: "We feel like Frodo, setting out from the Shire, with a great responsibility in our care--it is the beginning of the adventure of a lifetime."
For those that aren't caught up with the news surrounding The Lord of The Rings T.V show, the series is set before the trilogy of movies directed by Peter Jackson. Amazon will be bringing to life the world before Frodo and the ring, examples of the numerous avenues that Amazon could take are: explaining the Numenoreans and the Duneadine with the founding of Gondor/Arnor, the forging of the great rings of power, or they could even take it way back to first age with Morgoth from Tolkein's The Silmarillion. It should also be noted that Amazon has partnered with the Tolkien Estate, HarperCollins and New Line Cinema. Having the Tolkien Estate involved within the production of the show should provide a solid back-bone for the rich lore found everywhere throughout Tolkeins Legendarium.

Netflix tease season 2 of Castlevania with violent trailer
Netflix has taken to their social media outlets to release a brand new blood-stained trailer for the highly anticipated Castlevania series. The trailer teases the second season to be released this October.
The Castlevania series that was released onto Netflix last year in July is based off the very popular and also very old video game series Castlevania. The first title was released back in 1986 on the Nintendo Entertainment System and since then the there has been numerous game releases, so many that Castlevania is now one of Konami's staple franchises.
The audience response from the first season of the T.V show was quite positive, the animations were slick, the voice acting accurate and the characters are as brutal as you would hope. The only problems that could be found with the first season of the show is the length, season one only came in with 4 episodes which caused fans to feel prematurely cut off from the story. Castlevania season 2 will not have this problem as it has been reported that the second season will be 8 episodes in length, this decision should hopefully subside everyones pain from the first season.

Intel won't have mainstream 10nm until second half of 2019
Intel is massively behind in the node fight against AMD with its 10nm node receiving yet another release window for the mainstream market with the company saying 10nm will arrive to mainstream parts in the holiday season of 2019.
The current 14nm manufacturing process from Intel has received multiple revisions and tweaks and has been working perfectly for the company, with Intel unable to get 10nm off the ground like they promised in 2015. Intel originally promised 10nm mass production for 2015, revising it a few times over the years and now again until 2H 2019 at the earliest.
But don't fret - Intel has 10nm on the market in the form of a single Core i3 model that is a low-end chip. There's no integrated GPU with rumors that Intel had to slice off the graphics on the processor just to get it made on 10nm. Lenovo is the only customer of this 10nm processor, with the Core i3-8121U shipping in small quantities to the company.

EA thinking of cross-play more thanks to success of Fortnite
EA has some major AAA game franchises on the market that could benefit from some major attention to cross-platform use, and now that Fortnite has made so much money and been a cultutal influence, the company is stepping up and taking notice.
During EA's recent earnings report, EA CEO Andrew Wilson talked about the future of the company and their path to cross-platform for their franchises. Wilson said: "In terms of cross-platform play, again we are seeing the same thing. And remember, we have a vision on a 3- to 5-year time horizon where a great portion of game experience will exist in the cloud and be pushed to every device you own. And the game experience you have won't be measured by local CPU or GPU but will be measured by screen size and session time you have, and will drive tremendous liquidity in the market - in a player base. And I think we are to deliver very different types of experiences as a result of a cloud gaming offering".
He added: "In the near term, you should also appreciate that we're looking at key franchises in terms of how we could deliver cross-platform players in a similar way that Fortnite has, especially some of the titles have a broad and diverse player base. Households typically have one console, so the ability to bring PC to console and console to mobile into that play experience can bring families together, can bring friends together. And we think it's an important part of our future development profile both in terms of mobile games that we have today moving up per se to console and PC, and console and PC games being playable in mobile. And so, I expect more from us on that front in the future".

Tesla teases a $1500 surfboard, only 200 will be made
Tesla would have to be one of the most interesting and quirky companies in the world, but I think this new stunt takes it to the next level.
The company unveiled its new Limited Edition Tesla Surfboard over the weekend, which the company says was designed by the Tesla Design Studio in collaboration with Lost Surfboards and Matt "Mayhem" Biolos, the surfboard shaper for World Surf League Championship athletes.
Tesla uses a "mix of the same high-quality matte and gloss finishes used on all our cars. The deck is reinforced with light-weight "Black Dart" carbon fiber, inspired by the interiors in our cars, and featuring tonal logos in subtle contrast gloss". The company notes that the Limited Edition Surfboard will fit comfortably inside of their Model S, X, and 3 vehicles either inside, or outside of the car.
