Samsung Galaxy F: foldable smartphone unveiled next month?
Samsung was expected to unveil the world's first foldable smartphone sometime in early 2019, but according to the new rumors it could be unveiled very soon.
Not only are we being told to expect the foldable smartphone this year, but it will be called the Galaxy F, and not the Galaxy X like the previous rumors stated. The new Galaxy F could be released sooner rather than later as Samsung wants to beat Huawei to the punch, as the Chinese giant is preparing its own foldable smartphone.
CNBC reports that Samsung mobile boss DJ Koh said: "it's time to deliver" on a foldable smartphone, after the company teased the market with the possibilities of a foldable smartphone. Koh said during IFA 2018 in Berlin last week: "You can use most of the uses ... on foldable status. But when you need to browse or see something, then you may need to unfold it. But even unfolded, what kind of benefit does that give compared to the tablet? If the unfolded experience is the same as the tablet, why would they (consumers) buy it?".

Remedy: Control on the PC will be 'as good as it can be'
Remedy didn't have the greatest time during the problematic launch of Quantum Break on Windows 10, with the Windows Store an absolute mess at the time. The developer is hyping up its next title Control, which is once again headed to the PC in 2019.
Control is explained by Remedy as: "After a secretive agency in New York is invaded by an otherworldly threat, you become the new Director struggling to regain Control. This supernatural third-person action-adventure game will challenge you to master a combination of supernatural abilities, modifiable loadouts and reactive environments, while fighting through a deep and unpredictable world".
The game will have NVIDIA's new RTX support on the PC with real-time ray tracing possible on the next-gen GeForce RTX 20 series of graphics cards, and now after an interview with PC Games Insider, we have more details on Control for the PC. Remedy's Communications Director, Thomas Puha, touched on some of the issues with Quantum Break on the Windows Store, and the PC version of Control.

Next-gen gaming laptops coming with GeForce RTX 2080 Max-Q
NVIDIA is on the precipice of launching their next-gen GeForce RTX 20 series graphics cards to desktop gamers, but mobile gamers want to get in on the Turing GPU architecture and real-time ray tracing technology bundled in with RTX... right?!
The latest on the RTX 20 series is that a new mobile Turing GPU is in the works as the GeForce RTX 2080 Max-Q mobile family, with next-gen gaming laptops to be unveiled in the coming months and into 2019. WCCFTech is reporting that the device IDs for the Turing lineup were posted on GitHub, which included the TU104M that is also listed on DeviceHunt with a device ID of '1eab'.
Interestingly, there's no GeForce RTX 2070M in sight meaning we might get the higher-end option in next-gen gaming laptops. WCCFTech says that a "random birt wandered in from an open window" (obviously an anonymous source, so take this with an even larger grain of salt) and said: "We will put the 2080-Max Q into the current thin 15 and the 17 with NVIDIA's help. It's still unclear on when the 2070 will be out. I don't think the weight will increase significantly on this new card. Our ID/design will be pretty much the same as what you saw".

Battlefield V Open Beta visual settings detailed
Now that the Battlefield V Open Beta is here (and here's everything you need to know about it) we know about the graphics settings that DICE will let us play with and there's a fair amount of things to tweak in the open beta. HDR right now, is forced on gamers like I reported on here.
PC gamers are in for a treat with Battlefield V as DICE has provided plenty of customization to the graphics even in the open beta. We have adjustable field of view of up to 120 degrees which is incredibly wide, perfect for 21:9 monitor owners, while motion blur is set to 50% by default (turn this off is my opinion). There's the option between DX11 and DX12 with DX11 enabled by default, while resolution scale is set to 100% by default as well.
After that, the quality settings are detailed with vertical sync, texture quality, texture filtering, lighting quality, effects quality, post process quality, mesh quality, terrain quality, undergrowth quality, anti-aliasing post-processing, and ambient occlusion.

DICE forces HDR on gamers in Battlefield V open beta
I've already pumped a few hours into the Battlefield V open beta and while it is pretty damn awesome so far (I plan to put many more hours into it) there are some major issues that DICE need to address.
One of them is that when you have an HDR monitor or TV plugged into your PC, you are forced to use HDR. Going into the visual settings menu there is a menu you can click to tune HDR, but there's no enable/disable option. DICE is forcing HDR on gamers in the Battlefield V open beta, something that should be an option because gamers (like myself) don't want to use HDR all of the time.
HDR looks absolutely mind blowing in Battlefield V so I get what DICE are trying to do here: "hey guys HDR kicks ass in Battlefield V, so we're going to force it on you" - except, I want to disable it to take some pictures of the visual effects customization and I can't. I can't even take non-HDR pictures or video of Battlefield V, because HDR is forced on for me.

Metro Exodus RTX demo ran at 1080p 40FPS on RTX 2080 Ti
Metro Exodus was one of the RTX showcase games during NVIDIA's huge reveal of the next-gen GeForce RTX 20 series graphics cards, and while we knew that the demo 4A Games showed off during the GeForce RTX 2080 Ti ran at 1080p 40FPS, we are finding out more details on included NVIDIA technologies.
In an article by PCGamesHardware, the site talks about Metro Exodus and its technical prowess with and without NVIDIA's new RTX technologies. Metro Exodus will be an RTX-powered game, but it'll also include other NVIDIA technologies such as HairWorks and Advanced PhysX. HairWorks hasn't been used in too many games, with the latest one being Final Fantasy XV Windows Edition, and before that it was COD: Ghosts (2013), Far Cry 4 (2014) and The Witcher 3 (2015).
HairWorks puts a large strain on any graphics card, so it'll be interesting to see how the new Turing-based GeForce RTX 20 series graphics cards handle it. Maybe the new RT cores and deep learning technology can help out with performance and not bring it down so much when HairWorks is enabled. Because if gamers are turning on RTX, HairWorks and Advanced PhysX... it could bring the frames down below 30FPS, and that wouldn't be good at all, not on a new $1199 graphics card.

Bungie now rewards you for playing Destiny 2
Bungie today revealed its new Bungie Rewards program, an initiative which gifts you content and goods for completing specific tasks in Destiny 2.
The program actually sounds like a great idea for both players and Bungie: players can net some extra stuff and the developer incentivizes more users to not only keep playing but to do targeted tasks, thus upping engagement and data collection. The rewards system is linked to your Bungie.net account and apparently only works with the new Forsaken expansion so base Destiny 2 may not be eligible for specific tasks. At least the first reward is Forsaken-exclusive: you can unlock a free copy of the expansion's soundtrack when you beat the storyline.
Taking a look at this from a business perspective we see that Bungie Rewards is a direct result of Activision's huge push for engagement. Destiny 2 in of itself is a live game driven strongly by engagement, which is basically defined as the constant quest to keep users playing, grinding, and eventually paying for more content. Activision is the king of this business model and makes billions a year from microtransactions, DLC, and additive post-launch content. In 2017, Activision-Blizzard made $4.9 billion from in-game purchases, or about 69% of total net revenues for the entire year.

Black Ops 4 Blackout battle royale starts at 80 players
Black Ops 4 may not support 100 player chaos in its new battle royale mode, putting it behind competitors like Fortnite and PUBG...but it will have zombies.
Today Treyarch recently confirmed that Black Ops 4's Blackout battle royale will be capped at 80 players during the beta. "80 at the beta and we'll go from there," Treyarch design director David Vonderhaar said in a Game Informer interview. This is up from Battlefield V's 64-player Firestorm battle royale mode.
Blackout will see tons of classic Treyarch characters and content mashed together in an explosive FPS wrapper. Everything from destructive vehicles to AI-driven zombie hordes will be added to the mix for absolute chaos across the biggest Black Ops map to date. Vonderhaar revealed a bunch of new details about Blackout in the interview, showing just how much effort the studio is putting into this new engagement-driven mode.

Battlefield V battle royale: 64 players, team-based
Today DICE reveals more details about Firestorm, Battlefield V's new battle royale mode.
Battlefield V's BR mode is actually team-based rather than free-for-all and has a max of 64-players on a massive in-game map. "In Firestorm, 16 teams of four will fight it out to become the last squad standing on the largest Battlefield map ever: a sandbox filled with destructible buildings, weaponry, and vehicles. This is royale done the Battlefield way," DICE said in a new video. Interestingly enough DICE won't be making the battle royale mode.
"Multiplayer will deliver all-out warfare with unrivaled intensity and scale across eight multiplayer modes."

Rayman doesn't come to Smash Ultimate, instead Brawlhalla
Blue Mammoth Studios, the developers behind Brawlhalla have announced that their title will be getting a very iconic cross-over character from its publisher Ubisoft. Introducing Rayman, it appears he will be playable in Brawlhalla but could this mean we won't see him debut to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate?
During Ubisoft's PAX East stream, it was revealed that Rayman would be making his debut to Brawlhalla's fighting roster. Rayman will be apart of the games release onto the Xbox One and Nintendo Switch on November 6th. From the above video, we can see Matt Woomer, Managing Director at Blue Mammoth Games announce the good news, he not only seems quite excited to reveal the news to everyone but also proud that his company now has such an iconic character featured in one of their games.
The initial announcement though was overall quite disappointing, the build up from Woomer was the most suspense we got in terms of teasing the character. We also did not see any gameplay and was only shown a still image of Rayman. Being a fighting game enthusiast, when a new character is released regardless of how iconic they already are I want to see gameplay of them in action, I want to see the moves of the character no matter what they might be. The Rayman release is only a month away and leading into the launch I hope that both Ubisoft and Blue Mammoth Games do Rayman some justice and showcase his fighting style to players.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider screenshots leak: A young Lara?
Shadow of the Tomb Raider releases just 10 days from now and as players gear up for the launch some new screenshots have leaked online. It appears players will be able to experience a young Lara Croft.
From the screenshots we can see that players will be able to step into the shoes of young Lara Croft through what seems to be memory scenes. Maybe players delve into the mind of Croft at early stages of the game, maybe players use the area's we see in these screenshots as training areas. It would make sense for players to learn the controls of the game as Lara herself practices her skills.
We have seen the extent of Lara's training in the recent short video releases by Square Enix. As we gear up for the launch of Shadow of the Tomb Raider, Square Enix has released videos on Lara's Intelligence, knowing your enemies before you fight them, making weaponry and of course, knowing your environment. Shadow of the Tomb Raider is planned for release on September 14th and will be arriving on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.

Marvel's Spider-Man: The Heist DLC strung up teaser trailer
A brand new teaser trailer has been released for Marvel's upcoming Spider-Man release, the trailer teases the games coming DLC titled "The Heist."
Last week details for the "The Heist" DLC were released by insomniac games, we learned that this DLC will be taking players on the path of Felicia Hardy, or better known as Black Cat. For those that don't know Black Cat is a expert of martial arts and acrobatics, she is also a known lover of Spider-Man and throughout some of the comic books Black Cat and Spider-Man were known to mutually love one another.
It is unclear whether a relationship between our webheaded friend and Black Cat will develop in Insomniac's game, but what we do know is that she is "leaving mysterious clues around Marvel's New York to toy with Spider-Man." It could also be speculated from the trailer that Spider-Man could have some sort of feelings for Black Cat, as we can see early in the teaser trailer that they are literally standing face to face with only a plane of glass in-between them. This makes me raise the question, why didn't Spidy just catch her then if that is his motive? Why did he hesitate and let her run when she was standing right in front of him? I could be reading to much into this, but in my opinion Insomniac has included some form of romantic chemistry between these two characters. That doesn't automatically make it a bad thing, infact I'm quite excited to see how the developers have played out this relationship between Spider-Man and Black Cat.

Want to make $750K? Turn CO2 into other molecules for NASA
If you are in need of a large injection of funds, you can always put your white coat on and work something out for NASA in their newly-announced CO2 Conversion Challenge.
NASA's new CO2 Conversion Challenge will see a team of scientists and inventors discover a way to convert CO2 into molecules that can be used to produce many other things... if this discovery happens, there will be a winner who secures a huge $750,000.
The initial focus NASA has on the CO2 Conversion Challenge is for teams to convert CO2 to Glucose, in any way they can. NASA explains: "Help us discover ways to develop novel synthesis technologies that use carbon dioxide (CO2) as the sole carbon source to generate molecules that can be used to manufacture a variety of products, including "substrates" for use in microbial bioreactors".

GIGABYTE's new Z390 Gaming SLI motherboard spotted
Intel will soon enough be unleashing its next-gen-but-kind-of-not Z390 chipset, with GIGABYTE's upcoming Z390 Gaming SLI motherboard teased courtesy of VideoCardz.
As you can see, the Z390 Gaming SLI motherboard has one of its PCIe x1 slots upgraded to a x16 port allowing for two NVIDIA GeForce graphics cards to be installed in SLI. We're not looking at GIGABYTE's highest-end motherboard, as there are some models above this before we even enter the AORUS brand.
There's a pre-installed backplate which looks slick, and less connections on the I/O which is a shame - but expected on a more mid-range motherboard. Still, it will support two of NVIDIA's next-gen GeForce RTX 2080s or RTX 2080 Ti in SLI and not break the bank (at least on the motherboard, the GPUs are an entirely new argument on price, ha).

BioWare is 'looking into' NVIDIA RTX support for Anthem
NVIDIA's upcoming GeForce RTX 20 series graphics cards have built-in RT cores for ray tracing and Tensor cores for some very interesting AI-based goodies in the future... but what about more games using these RTX features?
Now we have Mass Effect developer BioWare addressing some questions over Twitter on whether their upcoming game Anthem will have support for DLSS, ray tracing or multiple GPU gaming rigs. Executive Producer on Anthem, Mark Darrah said "We're looking into it right now" when asked about DLSS, ray tracing and mGPU in Anthem.
EA will be publishing Anthem, so it would make sense for BioWare's next-gen game to support RTX since Battlefield V will have support for real-time ray tracing on NVIDIA's next-gen GeForce RTX 20 series cards.

GeForce RTX 2080 Ti: 37.5% faster overall than GTX 1080 Ti
Mega Rumor and Trigger Warning: This is all rumor territory, and I'm just reporting from various sources who are providing the relative performance of the GeForce RTX 2080 Ti against the GeForce GTX 1080 Ti.
Yesterday I reported about the GeForce RTX 2080 Ti being 35% faster in the 3DMark Time Spy run over the GTX 1080 Ti, but now new information has surfaced which drives the tease-o-meter up to 11/10. 3DCenter.org has compiled a list of relative performance gains over the GTX 1080 Ti from the it-still-doesn't-have-drivers GeForce RTX 2080 Ti.
Some of the results are freaking impressive with games like Far Cry 5 expected to receive a huge 55% performance upgrade at 4K, while PUBG will see a large 45% increase. The list includes Call of Duty: WW2, For Honor, GTA V, Mass Effect: Andromeda, Rainbow Six: Victories, The Crew 2, and The Witcher 3.
