Recreational drone literally pokes UK toddler's eye out
Remember when everyone told Ralphie in the Christmas Story he shouldn't get a BB gun because he'll just "shoot his eye out", and lo and behold, the first thing he did with his Red Ryder was blast a BB into his eye? A recent accident might make you rethink your plans to become a drone enthusiast, as it's been proven those unmanned fliers can be pretty hazardous.
According to the BBC, the blades of a recreational drone sliced an 18-month-old toddler's eye in half after the pilot lost control of the vehicle. "It was up for about 60 seconds," said Simon Evans, a family friend who was operating the drone. "As I brought it back down to land, it just clipped the tree and span round. The next thing I know I've just heard my friend shriek and say 'Oh God no' and I turned around and just saw blood and his baby on the floor crying."
Despite being a seasoned pilot, Simons was unable to keep the UAV from crashing into the toddler. The boy, Oscar Webb, will have to wait before he can get surgery and an artificial eye. The accident will serve as a cautionary tale to parents everywhere and may very well have lasting implications for the future of drones.

Nintendo NX has a 60% chance at succeeding, says analyst
Renowned games analyst Michael Pachter has once again rubbed his crystal ball and made some predictions on Nintendo's new NX console. The Wedbush Securities analyst has proven to be a kind of oracle when it comes to the world of gaming and projects that the NX has a chance of making it big--but we probably won't see it released in 2016.
In the latest episode of Pachter Factor (paywall gated), the soothsayer analyst delivered his predictions that Nintendo's mysterious cross-platform NX could take off if the Japanese games-maker handles it just right. According to Pachter, the Nintendo NX has a 60% chance in succeeding and could sell as much as 30 million units when it hits the shelves. The NX's strength lies in its status as a "convergence device" which unifies existing games platforms including consoles, PCs, tablets and smartphones.
Nintendo has said in the past that the NX won't make any existing hardware redundant, pretty much saying that the 3DS, Wii U and maybe even Wii will be compatible with the hardware. As far as the NX's release date, there is a rumor floating around that the console will enter mass production at Foxconn soon as April 2016, with an estimated 10-12 million units being shipped as soon as July 2016, which fits neatly into our older projections.

AMD Crimson driver causing fan issues, hotfix incoming
AMD's Crimson Edition driver has been causing fan issues for some, some saying it locks the speed to 20%.
While it's been reported this has caused cards to burn out, Reddit user Joshposh70 conducted some hard tests with his R9 290s in Crossfire and claims temperatures peaked at 94 degrees, at which point clock speeds were automatically reduced to maintain that temperature, as is expected with AMD's built-in Powertune technology.
AMD says it's aware of the issue and will be releasing a hotfix today. We'll let you know when it arrives.

Police called due to altercation between eSports pro and journalist
Dreamhack Winter heated up this weekend when police were called due to a fight between Swedish Dota 2 professional Jonathan 'Loda' Berg and high-profile English eSports journalist Richard Lewis.
This altercation happened after a discussion on Twitter involving a sign held by Kellymilkies, manager of Berg's professional team (and his girlfriend), was posted by Lewis. The post was accompanied with a comment, reading "Can someone tell the groupie I kicked out of bed this morning that she left her sign." While Lewis later claimed that this discussion has nothing to do with Berg's manager as he didn't know she made the sign, it was still taken personally.
The official statement by DreamHack reads "During the afternoon today at DreamHack Winter 2015 there was an incident at the CS:GO backstage area, where Loda and Richard Lewis were involved in verbal dispute that escalated into a physical confrontation. The situation was witnessed by DreamHack staff, who intervened and pulled both parties apart when the confrontation began. After cooling down the situation, DreamHack Security Crew was called to the site, and took official statements of the involved the parties. DreamHack also notified Police that came to the location to take statements from both parties and witnesses."

Amazon's new Prime Air drones deliver packages in 30 minutes or less
After months of speculation and rumors, the internet's most popular e-tailer has finally taken to the skies with a fleet of delivery drones that may usher in a new level of convenience.
As explained by Jeremy Clarkson, Amazon's new Prime Air delivery service taps the power of autonomous drones in order to ship packages in 30 minutes or less. The drones themselves are quite advanced, using "sophisticated sense-and-avoid technology" to detect and avoid nearby obstacles in the sky, and even scans the landing zone to ensure safe deliveries. The drones can fly up to 400 feet at 55 miles-per-hour, and can deliver 5-pound packages--things like DVD's, games, CD's and even shoes--in a 15-mile radius.
Amazon notes that the Prime Air service isn't ready for deployment, and the drones are still being manufactured and developed. "We are testing many different vehicle designs, and delivery mechanisms to discover how best to deliver packages in a variety of environments," reads the official Q&A. The company plans to offer Prime Air in the United States, the United Kingdom and Israel to start, with other territories to follow.

University of California develops valuable injury training simulation
Technology buffs at the University of California have created this technical simulation of a shrapnel-induced wound on someone's leg, aiming to bring Saving Private Ryan gore to real life, this time for education and training purposes.
Developed by Jeff Eldredge and his colleagues, this training simulator is designed for use by combat medics to prepare for, understand and know to to deal with what is a grim possibility when out in the field.
In an interview with New Scientist, Eldredge stated that "We're genuinely hopeful that our simulations will enhance the educational experience for medical trainees." In true father fashion, he added "But I'm really pleased just to get visceral reactions from my kids. That probably makes me a horrible father."

Star Wars Battlefront weekend PC players doubled by Team Fortress 2
While we reported a few days ago that Star Wars Battlefront had a poor PC player uptake, seeing a 24-hour peak of 33,337 players on PC compared to 66,444 on Team Fortress 2 and a massive 229,068 on Fallout 4, the weekend wasn't any kinder to this newly-released title.
Over the past 24 hours, Star Wars Battlefront posted only 30,273 players in total, compared with eight-year-old Team Fortress 2 performing well at a double-sized peak of 74,491.
Further comparison draws us, yet again, to Fallout 4, a title released alongside Star Wars Battlefront. White this game caters to a slightly different audience. Steam reports that this game has clocked a massive comparative peak of 254,357 players in the last 24 hours, with 162,742 playing at the time of writing this article.

Russian hackers have scraped over $790 million in three years
Kaspersky Lab has reported that a group of approximately 20 Russian hackers has stolen $790 million recently. Around 70 percent of this money has come from individuals and businesses within USA and Europe since 2012, supplementing this income with the further 30 percent coming from Russian bank accounts.
Describing them as a highly organized and sophisticated syndicate, Intel Security's Mike Sentonas told News.com.au that "We've been tracking a lot of these groups for years now and they have such strong architecture it's hard to shut it down."
While hackers can be placed around the globe, Deakin University's Professor Mathew Warren claims that a major concentration of these criminals are located within Russia and the surrounding countries of Ukraine and Bulgaria.

Carbon lattice material now set for use in high-end microphones
Researchers from the University of Belgrade claim that Graphene, a conductive carbon lattice, is even more useful that originally thought. They've made the world's first condenser microphone out of this material, quoted as 32 times more sensitive than nickel microphones in a report by Gizmodo.
In its current prototype state, the Serbian researchers were able to get to this phase by 'growing' sheets of graphene on a nickel foil, etching the nickel away and then placing their new creation within a microphone casing. Reports claim that this new creation has a sensitivity of 15 decibels higher than commercial microphones, handling frequencies up to 11 kHz.
The scientists claim that this prototype is just an indication of things to come, claiming much improved models in the near future, capable of completely blowing away current market-available models.

Ubisoft's latest 'The Breach' trailer for Rainbow Six: Siege
Ubisoft says it will have Rainbow Six: Siege ready for launch, without problems, but before the launch on Tuesday the developer has released a new trailer dubbed "The Breach".
The trailer features a famous speech by Henry V in the eponymous 1600 play, before the battle. It kicks off with the line "once more unto the breach, dear friends". Ubisoft changed it up a bit, adding: "Close the wall up with our English dead," becomes "... our brave men dead" with the following line cut: "In peace there's nothing so becomes a man as modest stillness and humility".

Quentin Tarantino explains his love for 70mm, says it trumps digital
While most of Hollywood films their movies in digital, Quentin Tarantino has a huge soft spot for shooting his movies in 70mm. It wasn't too long a go now that Tarantino said that he hates Netflix, and still uses VHS.
Tarantino's latest movie 'The Hateful Eight' was shot entirely on 70mm, and has been shown off at glamorous "roadshows". Tarantino was adament that he shot The Hateful Eight on 70mm, with the featurette from Fandango embedded above seeing Tarantino explaining why he loves shooting his movies in 70mm versus digital.

Man gets shot, instead of calling the cops, he grabs an Uber home
I've caught a number of Uber rides over the last few years, but it's normally for convenience - but this guy had another idea. A man from Grand Rapids, Michigan called an Uber after he was shot, telling the driver to take him home.
Uber driver David Heinicke said he told the 20-year-old gunshot victim that he needed to go to a hospital, but he refused. Heinicke said: "(I) tried to get him to go to the hospital, he would not do it, refused to do it. Looked like a handkerchief or something tied around his leg, trying to stop the bleeding. You could see right into his leg and the big crease down his pants where something had obviously hit him in the leg, and he later told me he had been shot by a .22 pistol".
Even after Heinicke said to his passenger that he needed to go to the hospital, all the Uber passenger wanted to do was go home. Heinicke added: "(He) said if I didn't take him here, he was going to get out and walk the rest of the way, so I brought him here. Then I called the police, and that's why you're here".

New Fallout 4 mod dramatically overhauls in-game landscapes
Even on PC, Fallout 4's graphics aren't quite amazing. The Commonwealth isn't going to put an NVIDIA GTX 980Ti through its paces, and users with higher-end rigs have faced disappointment with the game's underwhelming visuals. With the addition of mods, all of that can be turned around.
A new mod called Vivid Fallout aims to inject a vivacious life to Fallout 4's environs. The game surely is much more colorful than Fallout 3, but a good portion of its flora and fauna remain undefined and rather beleaguered, and that's exactly what this mod overhauls.
As you can see in the side-by-side comparison, the mod's visuals are quite striking and much more pronounced in some instances, but sometimes you can't really notice. If you want to get the total package, this particular mod goes hand-in-hand with the new Realistic Lights add-on. The lighting mod overhauls the way light and shadow are presented in the game to add in a nice sense of realism, but it can be admittedly hard to see in metropolitan areas with skyscrapers.

Apple rumored to remove the 3.5mm headphone jack from the next iPhone
According to the latest rumors, Apple will remove the 3.5mm headphone jack on the new iPhone and replace it with an all-in-one Lightning connector. The company might also released Lightning-based EarPods that will support the new audio output on future iOS-based devices.
The rumor is coming from Mac Otakara, which is pretty reliable, with the site adding that it has a "reliable source" that claims Apple will use a same-sized Lightning connector that will support Lightning-based and Bluetooth headphones. It'll also have a DAC, or digital-to-audio connector, that will offer backwards compatibility with wired headphones that use the standard 3.5mm headphone jack. To use this, a 3.5mm to Lightning adapter would be required.
If Apple did remove the 3.5mm jack on the new iPHone, it could be 1mm thinner than the already super-thin iPhone 6S which comes in at 7.1mm. The new iPod touch is something we should look at comparing it to, which is 6.1mm thick - but the iPod touch still rocks a 3.5mm headphone jack. We'll find out early next year if the new iPhone drops the 3.5mm headphone jack.

Just Cause 3's map is huge, covering 400 square miles
With the release of Just Cause 3 right around the corner, we're being teased with a new gameplay video dubbed 'The map from end to end' which details the huge 400 square mile map in a helicopter ride.
The video comes courtesy of PlayStation Access, which posted the video to show off the gorgeous open-world environment. The linear distance of Medici in Just Cause 3 is around the same as Panau from Just Cause 2, but Polygon notes that Medici's "mountainous terrain includes greater elevation changes, which makes the journey a little longer. Just Cause 3's map also will be a little more dense, meaning more features packed into roughly the same space".
Just Cause 3 launches on Tuesday, December 1 for the Xbox One, PS4 and PC. In case you want some more Just Cause 3 video goodness, check out the 4K 60FPS video above.

NVIDIA's GeForce GTX 900 series price drops for the holidays
Price drops on AMD Radeon cards hit the headlines yesterday, and now it's NVIDIA's turn. GeForce GTX 900 series cards are all dropping in price in the United States, the first time decent price drops have been applied to the Maxwell-powered cards since they launched late last year.
For example, the GeForce GTX 980 Ti has dropped from its original MSRP of $649 to around $589 - or even cheaper, at $559 after a rebate. The GTX 980 had an MSRP of $499, and can be had for as low as $439 or $409 after a rebate. The GTX 970's original MSRP of $329 has been slashed to as low as $289, or an even more awesome price of $259 after rebate.
If you're after a cheaper mid-range GPU, the GTX 960's original MSRP of $199 has been cut to $179, or just $149 after rebate. But, if you don't want to spend much money, you can grab the GTX 950 for $139 or $129 after rebate, down from the original MSRP of $159.
