SEGA release Team Sonic Racing mechanics spotlight video

Jak Connor | Gaming | Aug 8, 2018 7:49 AM CDT

SEGA has released a new short video onto their Sonic the Hedgehog YouTube Channel, the video details the mechanics players will be expeirencing on the racing track.

SEGA release Team Sonic Racing mechanics spotlight video

From the video we can see numerous ways players will be able to catch up from lower positioned races, mechanics such as Skimboost will propel struggling teammates forward once you pass them. Slingshot will do the same thing but will only work if a player drives through another team mates slipstream, if this is done then the player that is behind the team mate will receive a substancial boost.

Rival Takedown is quite straightforward, if a player knocks out a competing racer then they can speed past them. Item Box Transfer allows for teammates to trade items to one another from anywhere on the track, if used correctly this should allow for players to strategically keep all team mates at around the same speed. Team Ultimate boost can be used by team mates once the Team Ultimate meter has been fully filled, using this mechanic will unleash a massive boost to all team members. For further information regarding Team Sonic Racing, visit the official Team Sonic Racing website here.

Capcom considered a first person view for Resident Evil 2

Jak Connor | Gaming | Aug 8, 2018 6:45 AM CDT

Capcom has performed an interview with GamesIndustry regarding the Resident Evil 2 Remake, throughout the interview it has been revealed that the developer considered releasing the game with a fixed camera view.

Capcom considered a first person view for Resident Evil 2

Capcom Europe COO, Stuart Turner sat down with GamesIndustry to reveal some details about the upcoming title. According to Turner, inner Capcom employee's had numerous discussions to whether they would be able to provide "everything for everyone" in regards to "tank controls" and "fixed cameras." Turner also does mention that the developers "did try first-person, we did try fixed camera", but after much discussion it was decided that "a third-person view works better."

This decision from Capcom had the developer on the edge of it's seat, as EMEA Marketing Director Antonie Molant says "That was probably the main worry, or question mark, that we had" leading into the E3 2018 reveal. Molant says that he was worried that the decision of making the camera angle third-person would divide the fan-base, surprisingly it has had quite the opposite effect "but, although there might have been some initial dissenting voices, the reaction was overwhelmingly positive."

Official Smash Bros. teases Simon Belmont reveal for Direct

Jak Connor | Gaming | Aug 8, 2018 4:52 AM CDT

A day before the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate themed Nintendo Direct, Nintendo has uploaded a video to their YouTube Channel under 'unlisted.' The video gives a massive clue to who the next new fighter to be announced is, shall we see Simon Belmont revealed tomorrow?

Official Smash Bros. teases Simon Belmont reveal for Direct

The leak has been picked up by the /r/Smashbros sub reddit and has blown up, according to the post "Last week's Galaga music update for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate had its title changed on the official Smash Bros. YouTube channel. The new name? Bloody Tears / Monster Dance." For those that didn't know, Blood Tears is one of Castlevania's most iconic tracks, it debuted on Castlevania II: Simon's Quest and has been redone several times over the course of the franchise.

Listening to the video that was released onto the Super Smash Bros. YouTube Channel, you can hear a clear distinction between that of the original Castlevania track the newly released one. It is especially suspicious as Nintendo are only 24 hours away from their Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Direct, this could suggest that all of the rumors about Simon Belmont joining Smash could be true, I suppose we will find out very soon. If you missed out on the rumors surrounding Simon Belmont, catch up on that story here. There are also rumors about King K. Rool and Paper Mario also being announced, if you missed those visit that story here.

The video showcases that Spidy is able to calmly approach enemies and take them down from behind, above, the sides and basically any other direction as long as he isn't spotted prior to the attack.

Inithar narrates over the gameplay footage which then leads to a battle between Kingpin and Spidy, during this fight Inithar reveals (15:10) that players will be battling the Sinister Six later in the game. Inithar also says that players will be able to experience what it is like play as Peter Parker, the same goes for M.J as well. It's official: AMD is kicking ass and taking names once again with the release of their second-gen Ryzen Threadripper CPUs with the flagship Ryzen Threadripper 2990WX coming in as a 32C/64T beast that has taken the Cinebench performance crown from Intel.

AMD Ryzen Threadripper 2990WX at 5.1GHz thrashes Intel HEDT

Until now, Intel's fastest Core i9-7980XE (18C/36T) at 4.2GHz scored 4136 in the multi-core test of Cinebench R15, while their prototype 28C/56T processor teased at Computex 2018 not even able to beat the Threadripper 2990WX when overclocked. The prototype 28C/56T chip when under a massive cooling system was pushed to 5GHz and scored 7344, but when the 2990WX is overclocked to 5.1GHz on LN2 it pushes a huge 7618.

Take-Two rakes in $240m from microtransactions, DLC in Q1

Derek Strickland | Gaming | Aug 7, 2018 6:14 PM CDT

Digital continues to drive quarterly earnings for Rockstar Games parent company Take-Two Interactive, in no small part thanks to GTA Online's continued success.

Take-Two rakes in $240m from microtransactions, DLC in Q1

Every year Take-Two leverages its popular slate of IPs to rake in considerable earnings, but it's not all about raw game sales. Popularity is now typically measured in ARPU and MAUs, especially when premium games like GTA V have live service modes attached to them. The industry is pivoting more towards digital revenues and Take-Two is a major player in this regard.

In Q1 of its Fiscal Year 2019 timeline, Take-Two Interactive continued its long-running trend of digitally-focused revenues. Digital made $315 million in Q1, up 17.4% year-over-year, and accounting for a whopping 81% of the $388 million earned from total net revenues. What's even more indicative of Take-Two's strong engagement performance is how much of its digital revenues are made up of recurrent consumer spending (ie microtransactions, DLC, etc) hooks that are attached to most of its key games.

Halo TV series to tell dramatic, personal story

Derek Strickland | Gaming | Aug 7, 2018 10:55 AM CDT

We might finally get to see Blue Team's legendary exploits in action thanks to Showtime's upcoming Halo TV series.

Halo TV series to tell dramatic, personal story

I love Halo. It's something that's always been near and dear to my heart, and I really love the idea of humanity being locked in a hopeless war with a indomitable, alien foe. What makes Halo so great to me isn't just the FPS action, or the story rooted in sheer desperation, but how humanity kept its hope alive even against impossible odds. The Spartans kept this flame alive--primarily the "demon" Spartan 117--and raised spirits as world after world fell to the Covenant. This deeply personal and dramatic story is something I've always wanted to see displayed in a Halo movie or TV show (Halo Legends definitely counts!) and it appears Showtime might be making my dream come true.

Not so long ago I gave Microsoft a bunch of ideas for the Halo TV show. Some ideas include chronicling the Innies vs UNSC war that led to the creation of Spartan-II's like Master Chief and even showing Kelly, Fred, and John wreak total havoc as Blue Team. Those ideas might actually manifest in some way in Showtime's new show.

Currently the script for the pilot has been written by Lauren S. Hissrich but no actors have been casted for the main role as Geralt. Dead Cells debuts to the Switch with new animated trailer

Dead Cells has finally launhced and to celebrate the debuting of their title Motion Twin have released the above animated short film. The video gives new players an idea of what they will be jumping into if they decide to pick up the title. From the video we can see the main protagonist being created and then thrown out into the world to get from point A to point B, what lays in between those points is another story entirely.

The animated film displays that players will be dying a whole bunch from the numerous enemies attempting to stop them. What I find very amusing is that even the description for the video doesn't beat around the bush, it is honest and straight to the point "Kill. Die. Learn. Repeat. Dead Cells, the indie smash hit, crawls out to take over your Nintendo Switch, and a good three days straight of your life." Regardless of the difficulty the game may harbor, this title is absolutely perfect for your Nintendo Switch. So if you are interested in a title similar to that of Castlevania, and are up for a massive challenge and don't mind your spirits being crushed numerous times due to the amount of death you will experience, check out Dead Cells.

Fortnite on Android could be exclusive to Samsung app store

Anthony Garreffa | Gaming | Aug 6, 2018 11:03 PM CDT

The release of Fortnite on Android is going to be huge as the game has been mega successful on iOS already, but it looks like Samsung is going to be getting an exclusive, one way or another.

Fortnite on Android could be exclusive to Samsung app store

Previous rumors about the release of Fortnite on Android saw it being a timed exclusive to Samsung's impending Galaxy Note 9 smartphone, but fresh rumors suggest that Fortnite could be exclusive to Samsung's app store, locking it to Galaxy smartphones and tablets like the just-released Galaxy Tab S4, and upcoming Galaxy Note 9.

Just because Fortnite could be dropped exclusively on Samsung devices it doesn't mean other Android devices can't get it, as you could download the app from the Samsung app store and then sideloaded onto Android devices. But, I'm sure there will be something software-wise that will stop this from happening to keep Fortnite exclusive to the Galaxy Note 9 and Galaxy Tab S4.

Fallout 76 won't be on Steam, Bethesda.net exclusive

Fallout 76 on PC will be exclusive to Bethesda's own storefront and won't be sold or launched via Steam.

Fallout 76 won't be on Steam, Bethesda.net exclusive

As soon as Bethesda.net was announced back in 2016, I pretty much saw what the publisher was trying to do: launch its own proprietary game launcher/storefront so it could not only control its own games via a unified framework, but keep all the revenue from game sales by locking key games behind its store. To be fair lots of publishers are doing this. Look at EA with Origin, Ubisoft with uPlay, and Activision-Blizzard with Battle.net (which is starting to peddle games like Call of Duty and Destiny). For the most part, Bethesda.net has done quite well. It's served as a host for Skyrim's and Fallout 4's console mods while laying the groundwork for the Creation Club...but on the PC side, both of these have wreaked havoc on mods by breaking scripts like FOSE and massively aggravating longtime fans.

Fast-forwarding to the present and we see Bethesda doing exactly what I predicted it would do. The company has confirmed that Fallout 76, its big new online-only live service Fallout multiplayer game, will be exclusively sold and made available digitally on PC via the Bethesda.net store.

Final Fantasy VII Remake was always an action game

Derek Strickland | Gaming | Aug 6, 2018 5:42 PM CDT

Multiple outlets are reporting that the Final Fantasy VII Remake is "switching genres" from RPG to action, but this shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone. It's actually old news.

Final Fantasy VII Remake was always an action game

Readers who have paid attention to our dearth of Final Fantasy VII Remake articles will know that the massively anticipated project isn't an HD remaster, but a revamping of the classic 1997 RPG. And that means changes--lots of changes. Big changes include swapping out turn-based combat for a more open action-oriented system akin to Final Fantasy XV (more on that later).

Right from the start key players at Square Enix were clear that FFVII Remake will have heavy emphasis on action elements, and early footage from 2015 clearly showed as much (see above). "Battles are not command-based, they're action-based," game director Tetsuya Nomura said three years ago. Nomura and his team are focusing more on "flashy battles" and enthralling combat versus the kind of tactical, turn-based strategy found in Final Fantasy VII's original Active Time Battle system.
