Alienware boss leaves to join AMD as Chief Gaming Officer
Alienware co-founder, Vice President and General Manager Frank Azor announced he was leaving the company for unknown adventures, but now WCCFTech is reporting that Azor has joined AMD as its freshly minted Chief Gaming Officer.
Azor recently tweeted that he would be leaving Dell "as of July 3 to take on a new challenge", adding: "A little over 21 years ago, I met a couple of lunatics who had an idea they called Alienware. When I met them and learned about the company they were trying to build, I thought to myself, "This would be the coolest job ever." I was right, but none of us ever dreamed the brand would come this far - which is a result of all of you, your hard work and passion".
He added: "So, yes, leaving is hard. But I do so with confidence knowing the talent here is the industry's best and will take this business even farther. Love, Frank Azor".

Microsoft foldable Surface PC will run Android apps in 2020
Microsoft could well and truly surprise the world next year with a new foldable Surface PC that is called codename Centaurus, a new dual 9-inch foldable touchscreen laptop powered by a new 10nm Intel Lakefield CPU.
The new Centaurus-named foldable Surface would have 2 x 9-inch 4:3 aspect ratio displays, and not a single foldable panel. Windows Central "can confirm" Centaurus is "indeed an Intel device, and does feature two separate displays, not a single foldable display like found on the recently announced Lenovo foldable PC". Another one of the main selling points of Centaurus is that it will be capable of running Android apps.
Microsoft's new foldable Surface PC will run Windows Core OS, with support for Android apps making the dual-screen Centaurus a very hotly-rumored product. According to sources of both Forbes and Windows Central we can expect Centaurus is launch in the first half of 2020, with a possible October 2019 hardware reveal or tease event.

Jedi: Fallen Order still doesn't look like a Metroidvania
Jedi: Fallen Order has always been described as an exploration game with Metroidvania-style elements, like revisiting areas with new powers to unlock goodies or gear. But those features really haven't been demonstrated very well.
Today Respawn released the full Jedi: Fallen Order gameplay shown to press at E3 2019. Many say this footage better illustrates the game's Metroid-style level traversal, which implies forking paths, unlockable areas, and secrets. But we didn't really see much difference than the original footage; the game still looks quite linear, even if it gave small glimpses and affirmations of off-world travel (which is something that was already confirmed a bit ago).
If anything, the footage underlines the cinematic scope of the game and further brings to mind Uncharted's larger-than-life action sequences and puzzle solving (albeit in a more light manner). Not the confusing, often-gated labyrinthine exploration of a Metroid game.

Tons of new Cyberpunk 2077 details revealed
CD Projekt RED reveals a bunch of new details about Cyberpunk 2077, including day-to-night cycles, augmentations, cosmetics and regions of Night City.
In a big Q&A series on the Cyberpunk 2077 Tumblr, senior level designer Miles Tost and quest designer Pawel Sasko discussed a lot of details surrounding the team's new sci-fi RPG FPS hybrid. Topics are wide and varied, and some new tidbits slipped through like being able to recruit people to your team, more details on the murderous gangs roaming the neon-lit city streets, and even a nifty eye augmentation that allows real-time translations of other languages.
"Cyberpunk is all about you being your own boss, right. You finding your own path against a system that's constantly trying to bring you down," said senior level designer Miles Tost. "That's where the whole punk attitude of the name also comes from. Perhaps you'll want other people to join you, like Jackie, for example."

Cyberpunk 2077 isn't locked to heterosexual romances
Cyberpunk 2077 is a huge sprawling sci-fi FPS built around massive reactivity and choice, and courting other superhuman cyborgs will be no different.
CD Projekt RED aims to go above and beyond with Cyberpunk 2077, making Night City a bustling haven of gritty crime, glamor, and colorful excitement. It's a pretty nasty place that harbors prostitutes, murderous gangs, and the high-tech seedy underbelly of society. You'll kill, hack, destroy, and manipulate your way across the living, breathing wonderland with its real-time AI. But that doesn't mean true love doesn't exist.
In Cyberpunk 2077, players will have lots of options of who they romance and attach themselves to. The studio confirms that as V., the pivotal protagonist, players can woo both male and female NPCs to create a vast inter-connected web of connections that will aid (or perhaps even hinder) your progression.

Cyberpunk 2077 PS4 theme is pretty bad
Official console themes are a big opportunity to bring awareness to any game with some signature style, but CD Projekt RED didn't do much with their new Cyberpunk 2077 theme.
Today CDPR released a new Cyberpunk 2077 theme for the PS4. It's not very good. Instead of bringing to mind an exotic world of gritty sci-fi mayhem and next-gen immersion, it's just a big advertisement banner for the rather simplified but eye-catching blazing yellow cover art. "Transform your PlayStation 4 home screen into a netrunner's terminal with this official Cyberpunk 2077 theme! Head over to PS Store and grab it while it's hot!" CD Projekt RED said on Twitter.
The real tragedy here is CDPR didn't use any of the game's amazing concept art, posters, or even screenshots in the theme itself. It feels rushed out the door. Yes, it's a free theme and obviously not that much thought was put into it, but like I said it's still an opportunity to engage your playerbase with some nifty bit of interactive kit. Themes are something you see every time you start up and use your PS4 so they can be pretty powerful mechanisms.

Devil May Cry on Switch looks as good as a Xbox 360 version
Capcom's Devil May Cry has released on the Nintendo Switch, and we now have some great side-by-side comparison footage that compares the Switch version with the PS2 version, and an Xbox 360 version.
The footage comes from Direct-Feed Games and gives us a great example of what we will be working with on the Nintendo Switch graphically wise. This comparison shows that the Nintendo Switch version of Devil May Cry sits somewhere in-between that of the Xbox 360 and PS2 - from a graphical perspective.
Some scenes we can we see that the Nintendo Switch version shines better than the Xbox 360, and others it looses out. The PS2 version has completely fallen behind and is easily the worst out of three examples. Overall, if I was to crown one of the platforms king, I would have to give it to the Nintendo Switch version. This is because the color gradient that is used throughout the game seems to be more balanced in the Switch version, and doesn't have a film of whiteness layered over the top that the Xbox 360 one has.

Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled - 30FPS lock on all consoles
Just last Friday Crash Team Racing Nitro Fueled raced onto consoles and now that gamers have gotten their hands-on the new title we have confirmation for what framerate and resolution it runs at.
The above video is by VG Tech and gives us a great side-by-side comparison between Crash Team Racing Nitro Fueled running on the PS4/Xbox One and Nintendo Switch. Right off the bat we can see that Crash Team Racing Nitro Fueled is locked at a measly 30FPS across all systems.
While some could argue that it might not seem necessary for a racing game of this type to exceed 30FPS, I think it still would of been good if the beefier consoles supported 60FPS for a smoother experience. We also find out from the video's description that the Nintendo Switch version of the game runs at 720p in docked mode and only 480p in handheld.

Toy Story 4 goes to infinity, and beyond in opening weekend
Now that Toy Story 4 is hitting cinemas we are finding out that the latest movie in the franchise has become the most successful in its opening weekend across the entire Toy Story franchise.
Entertainment Weekly is reporting that the projections for Toy Story 4's opening weekend were much higher at $165 million, much less than the $118 million that it did in its opening weekend. If we compare this to Toy Story 3 from 2010 opening with $110.3 million, Toy Story 4 is performing quite well and is yet another win for both Pixar and Disney.
Pixar is no stranger to flying way above inifinty, and beyond with The Incredibles 2 pulling a huge $182.7 million in its opening weekend, Finding Dory with $135.1 million and is just behind Shrek the Third and its $121.6 million -- Toy Story 4 comes in just behind with $118 million. Toy Story 4 is also the third movie to open at over $100 million in 2019, behind Avengers: Endgame and Captain Marvel -- both Disney owned movies.

Apple 16-inch MacBook Pro rumors: new CPU, high-res display
Apple is reportedly working on a new 16-inch MacBook Pro that would sit above its current-gen 15.4-inch MacBook Pro and the super-awesome but now-retired 17-inch MacBook Pro.
The new 16-inch MacBook Pro would rreportedly boast a native 3072 x 1920 resolution, compared to the 2880 x 1800 resolution on the 15.4-inch MacBook Pro. The new 16-inch display would reportedly be provided by LG Display, wouldn't be all-OLED but a future all-OLED model wouldn't be surprising -- it would be damn beautiful, and I hope it comes sooner rather than later.
Analyst Jeff Lin believes the new 16-inch MacBook Pro would pack a new CPU from Intel which should ride up to a new Core i9 chip, and I'm hoping a ton of DDR4 RAM, high-speed storage, and high-end graphics which will be the surprise move. Will Apple use AMD Radeon Vega designs, or could they use a new Navi-based Radeon RX 5700 series solution?

Paris wants flying taxis ready for 2024 Paris Olympics
Not only do we have the 2020 Tokyo Olympics coming next year where we'll see a gigantic push for 8K which will be the new standard for TV, streams, and video -- but the country will be pulling out autonomous taxis, drones, and AI during the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
Airbus, Aeroports de Paris and the Paris Transport Authority are looking at ways of deploying autonomous flkying taxis for the 2024 Paris Olympics, which would autonomously fly passengers from Charles de Gaulle Airport into the city. I can't even imagine a future like that, but it seems we're seeing it being taken seriously for a huge event with so many eyes on it -- reporting on autonomous flying taxis, the actual possible future of travel.
While it's being pushed as a time saver we know it'll only really appeal to those with deeper pockets who want to experience this, as well as the rich and famous. The normal bus or trains from the airport to Paris will take around an hour, so the time saving element -- as well as like Buzz Lightyear famously says in Toy Story that he's "falling, with style". You would definitely be arriving into Paris in style, in an autonomous flying taxi like a boss.

AMD EPYC 7742: 64C/128T for $7800, crushes Intel pricing
AMD is about to unleash an onslaught of EPYC server CPUs with its new EPYC 7000 series processors about to drop -- built on the exciting new Zen 2 architecture and baked on the fresh 7nm node. We're looking at between 8C/16T through to an incredible 64C/128T on a single CPU socket... but what about pricing?
According to a post on Reddit, a list of SKUs coming in the AMD EPYC 7000 range from 2Compute mean we're to expect 19 new CPUs ranging from 8C/16T, adding 4 or 8 cores along the way through to a whopping 64C/128T. HotHardware compiled a list of specs and approximate price conversions between the listed EU price and into USD which we've got below.
If we compare that against Intel's best Xeon Platinum 8180 which is a 28C/56T processor (2.5-3.8GHz with a 205W TDP) which costs $10,000 -- AMD has it in the bag with the core/thread game and EPYC. The upcoming Intel Xeon Platinum 9282 will have 56C/112T will have clocks of between 2.6-3.8GHz but a huge TDP of 400W, with price estimates putting it in the $20,000 or higher bracket -- insanity compared to the less-than-$8000 for the 64C/128T offering in EPYC 7742.

New Avengers game is Herculean in scope and ambition
The new Avengers game is a huge undertaking for Crystal Dynamics, representing a massive series of Herculean trials that'll last for years to come.
Service games are very difficult to make, but the real headache comes after launch, when developers have flexibly adapt to gamers' whims. This means tons of adjusting, balancing, and new content rollouts at any given time. The new Avengers game is a live service project with emphasis on cinematic-driven singleplayer merged with an always-evolving co-op multiplayer scope. It's a hybrid of gaming's two most lucrative and powerful experiences, which means Crystal Dynamics has to work twice as hard.
In a recent interview with Games Industry.biz, Crystal Dynamics' studio lead Scott Amos says Marvel's Avengers is the biggest game they've ever made, and talks about the massive amount of manpower that's going into the project.

New materia confirmed in Final Fantasy 7 Remake
The new Final Fantasy VII: Remake won't feature all of the same materia from the 1997 JRPG classic, Square Enix confirms.
In a recent interview with Japanese games magazine Famitsu, game director Tetsuya Nomura confirms new materia will appear in the Final Fantasy VII: Remake. The downside is new materia is trading places with some old materia, meaning some spells and abilities from the old-school version won't be included. Neither Nomura or Square Enix has confirmed which spells will and won't be included in the Remake.
The rationale behind this materia change-up is centered around the game's new intricate action-based combat mechanics. Rather than a full turn-based affair like its predecessor, Final Fantasy VII: Remake is a blend of Final Fantasy XV's frenetic hack-and-slash combat with the original's ATB battle sequencing system. The game uses a new Tactical Mode that slows down time, along with an ATB gauge that fills up as you strike enemies. Strategy and finesse is required and players will consistently have to manage resources and plan their next moves carefully.

Nintendo chip surge doesn't point to new Switch hardware
Nintendo is stocking up on lots of memory from chip-maker Macronix, the Taipei Times reports, but this doesn't necessarily mean a new revised Switch is on the way.
Taiwanese memory-maker Macronix, one of the leading suppliers of non-volatile memory on the market, just reported a strong surge in purchases from Nintendo, one of its best clients. Macronix noted this was "highly unusual," and that Nintendo's orders "has exceeded our expectations in the past two months. Demand is better than we thought." Speculation sees this move as Nintendo's preparation for a new Switch console revision, possibly a new model that uses the same Tegra chip as NVIDIA's new refreshed Shield set-top box, or even the rumored Switch Mini system. But how Nintendo uses Macronix chips gives context to the buy up.
Macronix chips aren't actually used in the handheld-console hybrid's main components. The Nintendo Switch currently only uses Macronix's CMOS flash memory in its JoyCon controllers and its dock stations, as per iFixit's teardowns. Macronix does indeed make LPDDR RAM chips that could theoretically be used in the Switch, but the device actually uses two of Samsung's K4F6E304HB-MGCH 2 GB LPDDR4 DRAM chips.
