The Legend of Zelda TV series to be announced soon

| Nov 1, 2018 8:21 PM CDT

If there was a show that could get the attention of both gamers and a larger general audience, it would be The Legend of Zelda. The series has sold over 100 million copies over a plethora of platforms, and is now poised to be turned into a TV show.

The Legend of Zelda TV series to be announced soon

Castlevania has been a big hit for Netflix and its producer Adi Shankar has teased a new show based on The Legend of Zelda, where he posted on Instagram a huge tease: "I can confirm that I'm working with an iconic Japanese gaming company to adapt one of their video game series into a [TV] series. On Nov. 16 @ 1pm I'm going to announce what it is. I love you all. Thank you for following me on this journey. Entertaining you guys continues to be a privilege". That gets my hype meter soaring, especially with Netflix planning an upcoming TV series based on The Witcher starring Man of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Mission Impossible Fallout star Henry Cavill.

The Legend of Zelda in TV series form could take shape in the form of a massive live action series, an animated version or something completely different. Netflix securing the rights will be a big move as they're going to be bleeding content out to Disney over the next year or so before they launch their own digital streaming service. Disney has some huge IP it can pull from including Marvel, Lucasfilm, Pixar, and more.

A game developer that works for renowned studio Naughty Dog, has spoken out about his experience while working on the coming 'The Last of Us Part II.'

Naughty Dog developer says The Last of Us II is 'unreal'

Before we get into what has been said, it should be noted that any hype from developers that are working on their projects should be taken with a grain of salt, as there is always the possibility of what has been said to be bias. Asher Einhorn, the game designer from Naughty Dog has taken to Twitter to reveal his experience while working on the coming game, the designer said "I don't think I've ever been more excited about a game I'm working on WHILE I'm actually making it."

Einhorn continued on his Tweet and said that The Last of Us Part II is "going to be freakin' unreal!!" The Last of Us Part II was announced back in 2013 and has been in developement since 2014. In December 2016, Naughty Dog revealed to us a trailer for The Last of Us Part II, check that out if you have missed it here. The Last of Us Part II has no set release date planned as of yet, but we are most likely looking towards a release window of 2019, more on that here.

Dragon Ball FighterZ hits 3.5 million units sold worldwide

| Nov 1, 2018 2:00 AM CDT

Dragon Ball FighterZ released back at the end of September, and since then it has taken the fighting game scene by storm picking up over 3.5 million gamers across the globe.

Dragon Ball FighterZ hits 3.5 million units sold worldwide

The news comes from the official Dragon Ball FighterZ Twitter account, where the publisher Bandai Namco announced that the title "has exceeded 3.5 million in total worldwide cumulative number of shipments (including DL version)!" As per usual Google Translate has butchered this translation, but what we can learn from it is that Dragon Ball FigthterZ has shipped 3.5 million units worldwide and that this figure also includes digital downloads.

If you have been out of the hype for Dragon Ball FighterZ and consider yourself a bit of a Dragon Ball fan, I'd point you directly towards the games trailer which showcases most, if not all, iconic characters that are ever so known throughout the anime series. If you happen to own a Nintendo Switch, Dragon Ball FighterZ could literally fall straight into your lap, check out the Nintendo Switch launch trailer here.

Red Dead Redemption 2 makes $725 million in 3 days

| Oct 31, 2018 6:42 PM CDT

Rockstar now holds two records for gaming's biggest openers, and Red Dead Redemption 2's launch sales are second only to GTA V.

Red Dead Redemption 2 makes $725 million in 3 days

Despite being a Western game with tons of punishing and meticulous mechanics, Red Dead Redemption 2 is a monumental win for Take-Two Interactive. The game has broken all sorts of records in its first three days, and raked in a huge $725 million in its opening weekend. And that's just from retail copies, not digital. For comparison's sake, GTA V made over $1 billion in three days, and one-day sales is crowned by Black Ops 2 which made $500 million in a single day.

"Rockstar Games is proud to announce that the critically acclaimed Red Dead Redemption 2 has achieved the single-biggest opening weekend in the history of entertainment," Take-Two wrote in a recent press release.

Switch rallies digital sales in Nintendo's 1H'18

| Oct 31, 2018 4:40 PM CDT

Nintendo saw strong digital sales growth in the first two quarters of Fiscal Year 2018 as more Switch owners buy directly from the eShop.

Switch rallies digital sales in Nintendo's 1H'18

More and more consumers are buying into digital ecosystems like PS Plus, Xbox LIVE, and Steam, and now thanks to the Switch, Nintendo is enjoying a strong surge in digital sales revenue. In its latest financial earnings report, Nintendo says it enjoyed record digital sales of 31.9 billion yen in the first half of its FY2018 timeline, up an incredible 70% year-over-year. Total digital figures aren't just full game sales and include DLC, add-ons, in-game spending in games like Fortnite, game sales on eShop, and Switch Online subscriptions.

Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa says 60% of the digital sales were from eShop purchases of packaged games, which means the company made 23.46 billion yen from digital games.

Switch Online low-cost annual plan worked like a charm

| Oct 31, 2018 3:36 PM CDT

Nintendo's new Switch Online subscription plan was a popular choice among consumers, the company says, likely due to its lower cost value proposition.

Switch Online low-cost annual plan worked like a charm

At $20 a year, the Switch Online service is quite cheaper than the $60 online services from competitors Sony and Microsoft. This price point, along with the free range of NES classic games and added online play, is a primary driver for adoption across the Switch's 22 million-strong install base. Nintendo confirms that most Switch Online subscribers bought into the $20 annual plan versus the piecemeal month-to-month or 3-month options.

"Nintendo Switch Online, the paid service that expands the online functionality of Nintendo Switch, became available in September 2018. The launch went according to expectations, except that consumers who have purchased a subscription to this point opted for a 12-month Family or Individual Membership consist of more than half of total subscribers, which is more than anticipated," Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa said in the company's recent fiscal earnings report.

3DS will continue living on alongside Switch

| Oct 31, 2018 2:40 PM CDT

Despite the Switch's success and combination console and handeheld form factor, Nintendo won't be killing off the 3DS handheld family of systems any time soon.

3DS will continue living on alongside Switch

The Switch arguably makes the 3DS obsolete--not only is it more powerful, its games library is rapidly expanding. But with a huge 70 million strong install base and over 300 million software copies sold, scrapping the 3DS altogether would be a mistake. Instead Nintendo plans to use the 3DS as a point of entry to its budding hardware and gaming ecosystem. Think of the lower-cost 3DS as a more accessible gateway to Nintendo's products that could ultimately lead to a Switch purchase, or continued 3DS game sales.

In Nintendo's recent financial earnings, current company president Shuntaro Furukawa outlined how the 3DS folds into the company's existing and future plans: "Nintendo 3DS is set apart from Nintendo Switch by its characteristics as a handheld game system that is lightweight, price-friendly, and highly portable. Affordability is the strong point that positions Nintendo 3DS in a niche clearly separate from Nintendo Switch."

Nintendo Switch sales top 22 million

| Oct 31, 2018 1:08 PM CDT

Nintendo's latest Switch handheld-console hybrid has now sold over 22 million units worldwide since its release in 2017, but the company has a long way to go to meet its lofty fiscal sales target.

Nintendo Switch sales top 22 million

The Nintendo Switch now sits at 22.86 million cumulative sales across the globe, the games-maker today announced in recent financial earnings. Hardware sales for the quarter ending September 30 are healthy but gains are incremental. 3.19 million Switch consoles were sold during the second quarter of FY18, up a low 9.2% year-over-year and a strong 70% quarter-over-quarter. The Switch now sits at 5.1 million half-year sales, up slightly from last year's 4.9 million. Software is now up to 111.10 million.

This smaller uptick in sales momentum means Nintendo will have to push extra hard to meet its lofty 20 million Switch sales goal for FY2018. With 5.1 million Switch consoles sold so far, the company has to move 14.9 million units from now until fiscal year's end on March 31, 2019.

Spyro Reignited Trilogy requires day 1 patch of games 2&3

| Oct 31, 2018 4:00 AM CDT

We are just a little less than a month from the release of the Spyro Reignited Trilogy and Activision has confirmed that our favorite purple dragon will be arriving with a day one patch.

Spyro Reignited Trilogy requires day 1 patch of games 2&3

Back in early August, I reported on Activision revealing on their website that Spyro "games 2 and 3 require download via internet", many fans weren't happy with this decision as when purchasing a physical copy of the game the expectation is to just be able to put in the disc and play the game immediately. This sadly won't be the case, as Activision have said in a statement to IGN that the initial disc will ship with entire first game and a subset of levels from games 2 & 3.

The official statement to IGN reads as follows: "The trilogy will ship with content from each of the three games, including the entire first game and a subset of levels from games 2 and 3. In order for the full Reignited Trilogy offerings, a day one update is required." Most users that are opting for the physical purchase of the game decide to do so due to their poor internet connection speed or overall lack of internet data. Requiring players to have an update of around 2 whole games size is not a great way to make these fans happy, especially the ones that were under the impression that all three games would come loaded onto 1,2 or even 3 discs.

Diablo III: Eternal Collection Amiibo support confirmed

| Oct 31, 2018 3:00 AM CDT

Now that the embargo for Diablo III hitting the Nintendo Switch has lifted, we can confirm that the Blizzard port will in fact have Amiibo support. Well, at least it will support one Amiibo.

Diablo III: Eternal Collection Amiibo support confirmed

Yesterday, I reported on a Reddit user that happened to get their hands-on the Eternal Collection early. The Reddit user datamined their Nintendo Switch with the Eternal Collection installed and managed to come across some files that suggested that the Switch version of Diablo III would be arriving with Amiibo support. The datamine revealed that the game would supposedly be supporting three separate types of Amiibo, the "Default/Generic Amiibo", "Treasure Goblin Amiibo" and a "Demon Amiibo."

With reviews for the game now live, Destructoid can confirm that at least one Amiibo figure is supported within the game, the Treasure Goblin. This suggests that Blizzard will soon officially announce something regarding Amiibo's, it will most likely be on Friday as that is when the official launch of the game is. Stay tuned for more, when Blizzard announce something I will be sure to update you.

Final Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Direct: Nov 1st, view here

As I mentioned last week in my article surrounding the 'completed roster' leak or the 'Grinch leak', Nintendo needed to have another Smash Ultimate Direct as there is just so much new content to go over and so little time before launch. The Direct that has been announced on Nintendo America Twitter account states that we will have about 40 minutes or so of brand new information regarding Ultimate.

The stream will be brought to us by Director Masahiro Sakurai and within this Direct we will most likely see a reveal of a few new characters heading towards a visible completion of the roster. Some of the characters that many Smash fans are expecting to

The launch for the Diablo III: Eternal Collection on the Nintendo Switch is just around the corner. Ahead of its debut, IGN has released the first 15 minutes of gameplay footage.

First 15 minutes of gameplay for Diablo III on the Switch

Players that are considering picking up the Eternal Collection for their handheld console and have never played Diablo III should definitely get onto watching this video provided by IGN. The video gives players a quick showcase at the gameplay players will be immersed in, a great look at combat and a solid variety of enemies as well.

We also get a quick look at leveling up, the map, questing and many other aspects of the game that could spike some interest in many Nintendo Switch owners. I would imagine that the camera view is a great advantage here, the almost top down view that Diablo III is based around is perfect so some couched gaming and also wouldn't take away from the gaming experience. The Diablo III: Eternal Collection will be released on November 2nd this year. If you are wanting to go all out for the release of the Eternal Collection, you might want to pick up the Nintendo Switch Diablo III bundle, visit that story here. NieR: Automata's 2B screenshotted in Soulcalibur VI HD

| Oct 30, 2018 4:00 AM CDT

Following up from yesterday's post, we have a tonne of screenshots provided by Bandai Namco surrounding the recently announced addition to Soulcalibur VI. Introducing 2B from NieR: Automata in glistening HD.

NieR: Automata's 2B screenshotted in Soulcalibur VI HD

Just a few days back we caught wind of a new addition to the Soulcalibur VI roster, Bandai Namco revealed 2B from the Platinum Games and Square Enix's title NieR: Automata. 2B debuted with a very cool character trailer where she went up against the not so warmly dressed Ivy. Now, Bandai has decided to release a tonne of screenshots for the android and when I say tonne there is truly a lot of them.

In the screenshots we can get a better idea of how players will be fighting as 2B and it appears that it won't be that much different from her organic combat back in NieR: Automata. From the screenshots we can see that 2B utilizes spacing to her advantage, with long swords and sweeping attacks 2B can pick and choose when she wants to get in close but still be able to deal damage from afar. She also has her pod support that will allow her to glide around her opponent and reach more advantageous positioning locations, which I'd imagine to be much faster than a typical fighter. In the entirety of this post you will find the screenshots.

Switch Diablo III datamined, reveals possible Amiibo support

| Oct 30, 2018 2:00 AM CDT

The release of Diablo III: Eternal Collection is about to be upon us, and as Nintendo Switch users gear up for the Blizzard title's debut, one user has already datamined the game revealing possible Amiibo support.

Switch Diablo III datamined, reveals possible Amiibo support

Reddit user JustMaku got his/her hands-on the Eternal Collection before its launch and has managed to mine the game for its data. Maku has taken the data that has been collected to the Diablo subreddit, Maku then posted on the subbreddit claiming that the Diablo III: Eternal Collection will have Amiibo support in the form of three separate types of Amiibo's.

According to the Reddit post, the Diablo III: Eternal Collection will support the "Default/Generic Amiibo", "Treasure Goblin Amiibo" and a "Demon Amiibo." Maku further explains what each of these Amiibo's will do, "The first two will spawn a portal leading to some location (controlled by server so can't be datamined) while the demon amiibo will spawn a powerful demon on the map. To prevent abuse, there's currently a cooldown on each type of the summon." Red Dead Redemption 2 has a 'work tireless hours' easter egg

| Oct 30, 2018 1:00 AM CDT

The controversy surrounding the work weeks Rockstar developers was put under has been found as an easter egg within Red Dead Redemption 2.

Red Dead Redemption 2 has a 'work tireless hours' easter egg

Before the launch of Red Dead Redemption 2, Rockstar was put under the microscope a bit as Rockstar Studios' co-founder, Dan Houser made his development team work multiple 100-hour weeks throughout 2018 to complete Red Dead Redemption 2. Job J Stauffer, the co-founder of Orpheus Self-Care Entertainment even spoke out about his experience working at the company, "It's been nearly a decade since I parted from Rockstar, but I can assure you that during the GTA IV era, it was like working with a gun to your head 7 days a week." For more details on that story visit my article here.

Looking towards the above image now, we can see that "it is made by skilled laborers who work tireless hours each week and on the weekends for little pay in order to bring you the finest revolver in the field today." It seems that maybe a developer/s managed to squeeze in a little metaphor regarding their work weeks before official launch of the game. If not then this is just one mighty big coincidence, you decide.
