Resident Evil Village comes to iPhone 15 Pro on October 30
After Apple announced the iPhone 15 Pro and said that it would be able to run a console port of Resident Evil Village, that's something that a ton of gamers have been waiting for. The new iPhones went up for sale on September 22 and now we also know when they will get their flagship new game, too.
It's now been confirmed that Resident Evil Village will come to the App Store on October 30, complete with the Winters' Expansion. It'll be available to play on the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro Max as well as the iPad Air and iPad Pro so long as yours happens to have the M1 chip or later inside.
The new game will be a free download in the App Store, but that'll only act as a demo version of sorts. If you want to play the full game that's going to cost you. With this being a console game, it's perhaps no surprise that its pricing also reflects that. The Resident Evil Village game will set gamers back $40, while the Winters' Expansion DLC will go for another $20.

Testing shows Steam Deck runs Cyberpunk 2077's big 2.0 update just fine
Cyberpunk 2077's big 2.0 update has landed, ahead of the launch of the incoming Phantom Liberty expansion (which arrives tomorrow), and there's good news for Steam Deck owners.
While it's true that Cyberpunk 2077 version 2.0 (with DLSS 3.5 on board) does up the system requirements for the game, it still remains perfectly playable on Valve's handheld.
This is according to testing conducted by German tech site Computerbase as flagged up by Tom's Hardware.
Elon Musk says he's upgrading to an iPhone 15, but which one?
Apple's iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro models are now available to buy and people have been doing that since the September 22 launch last week. Those who got their preorders in quickly will already have their new phone in their pockets. And it turns out that there's one person picking up Apple's latest phone that you might have heard of.
The new models are the best iPhones that Apple has ever sold and now it appears that the owner of X, the social network previously familiar to us all as Twitter, would agree. Elon Musk took to Twitter to confirm that yes, he is picking up a new iPhone this year.
Musk was replying to a tweet by Apple CEO Tim Cook who was saying that the new iPhones were officially on sale on Friday alongside the Apple Watch Ultra 2, Apple Watch Series 9, and updated USB-C AirPods Pro 2. Musk replied to say that he's buying one and we have to imagine it's that fancy new iPhone that he was talking about.

The Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro will probably cost you this much to buy
With Google's big Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro unveiling now just a week or so away there is more attention than ever on what the company will announce in terms of features and specifications. We can surely expect some big camera upgrades and Google's use of AI tools should make for an interesting list of features. But how much will all of the new hotness cost when it becomes official?
That's a question that we might now be able to answer after a leak of what appears to be a Google pricing chart appeared on X, the social network previously known to the world as Twitter. That post comes via leaker Kamila Wojciechowska and seems to have all of the information we could possibly want to know - including further confirmation of specifications across both devices.
Starting with those all-important prices, the leak suggests that the Pixel 8 will start at $699 this year, an increase of $100 over the current Pixel 7 price of $599. That'll get you a Tesnor G3 chip, just like the Pixel 8 Pro. The difference is that the Pixel 8 comes with 8GB of RAM while the Pixel 8 Pro has an upgraded chip with an extra 50% memory, taking it to 12GB.

Forget the iPhone 15, these are the Pixel 8's leaked camera specs
The Google Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro are set to be announced very soon indeed but we might not need to wait all that long to know what the new models will offer in terms of cameras. A new leak claims to have outed all of the new specifications a week or so ahead of time.
With all of the attention now on Apple and its recent iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro releases it's leaks like this that continue to remind everyone that there are now Google phones just around the corner. Apple might have launched four new handsets but Google is being much more conservative with just two new models on the horizon; the Pixel 8 and the Pixel 8 Pro.
This new camera leak comes courtesy of the folks at 91mobiles and tipster Kamila Wojciechowska. According to them, there are a few things that buyers of the new models should be looking forward to.

Snapchat hits more than 5 million users paying $3.99 a month
More than 5 million people are paying for Snapchat's premium subscription service, indicating a growing number of Snapchat+ subscribers.
A new report from TechCrunch that cites Snapchat's announcement reveals that the popular app has signed on more than 5 million users to its premium subscription service designed for power users. The total number of users on Snapchat+ has steadily grown from 3 million users in mid-April to 4 million users in late June and now 5 million in September.
For those that don't know, Snapchat+ offers a range of features such as custom app themes, unique app icons, options to pin best friends, and tools to improve Stories and the ability to see who rewatched them. There are other features that may have attracted a new swath of users, such as Snapchat's AI chatbot Dreams. However, it's likely many new Snapchat+ subscribers came from Version's subscriptions store +Play.

NASA makes history by landing valuable asteroid samples safely back on Earth
A capsule carrying samples from the asteroid named Bennu successfully touched back down on Earth at 10:52 a.m. EDT, marking a historic mission success for NASA.
NASA's OSIRIS-REx spacecraft officially made history when its sample capsule safely floated down and landed in the Utah desert at 10:52 a.m. EDT on September 24, 2023. The capsule contained samples from the asteroid Bennu, located 4 billion miles away, and are the first asteroid samples collected by NASA. On its journey home, OSIRIS-REx released the capsule 63,000 miles from Earth, and after it safely landed, the teams discovered the gathered 250 grams (8.8 ounces) of rocks and other material from Bennu.
The sample was transported to NASA's Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas, and underwent further examination in a dedicated new facility labeled the Astromaterials Research and Exploration Science (ARES) division. The next step is to divide the samples into different institutions and research facilities.
Scientists discover fossil of 'giant' trapdoor spider that's absolutely haunting
A new species of spider was discovered in Australia by a team of researchers that uncovered an incredibly persevered fossil that dates between 11 and 16 million years old.
The fossil is the first evidence of a spider that belongs to the brush-foot trapdoor spider family called Barychelidae and has officially been named Megamonodontium mccluskyi. There have only been four spider fossils ever discovered in Australia, which makes understanding their evolutionary history very difficult for researchers, hence the importance of this recent discovery.
According to the scientists, the closest living relative of the fossilized spider currently lives in the wet forest in Singapore through to Papa New Guinea, which suggests that this type of spider once occupied Australian rainforests but began going extinct when Australia started getting less rainfall and became more arid. Notably, the fossil is of such high quality that researchers can confidently place it to the modern genus of brush trapdoor spider Monodontium. However, it's five times larger.
NASA's Mars Simple Return mission has a 'near zero probability' of being on schedule
NASA originally scheduled Mars samples return to Earth in 2026, but independent review boards that looked over NASA's plans have found critical flaws in the space agency's methodology.
These flaws have led NASA to delay moving the Mars Sample Return mission to its next stage of development, which will further push out the date for Martian samples arriving back on Earth. The new report was released on September 21 and found that there was a "near zero probability" that the two critical components of the Mars Sample Return mission; the sample retrieval lander and Earth return orbital, will be ready for launch by 2027/2028, as NASA currently projects.
Additionally, the report concluded that NASA's budget for the entire sample return mission is grossly underestimated and will fall between $8 billion and $11 billion, which is significantly more than what an independent review board reported in 2020 - $3.8 billion to $4.4 billion. The solution would be to move the launch times of the lander and orbiter to 2030, which would cost an additional $1 billion from 2025 to 2028, further hamstringing NASA's already tight budget.

Elon Musk's response to brain chip implants killing monkeys has now been thrown into jeopardy
It was only a few weeks ago Elon Musk responded to the allegations that his brain chip company Neuralink wrongfully caused the death of numerous monkeys undergoing testing.
Musk wrote on X that the monkeys used for testing that ended up dying were "terminal" and that these monkeys were "close to death already." However, an investigation launched by Wired that was recently published cited public documents, along with an interview of a former Neuralink employee, contradict Musk's statements.
According to Wired, veterinary records from the California National Primate Research Center (CNPRC) at UC Davis indicate that up to 12 monkeys suffered from brain swelling and partial paralysis following the insertion of a Neuralink brain implant. Monkeys that have been brought into question are as follows; "Animal 20" was inserted with a brain implant that "broke off" during surgery that was then scratched by the monkey, leading to infection and next-month euthanasia.
Intel confirms that its next-generation Meteor Lake CPUs are coming to desktops next year
Last week, Intel confirmed that its next-generation Meteor Lake CPUs were coming in December, though only for the laptop space. With all of the architectural changes on the way, it's the biggest shake-up to design, manufacturing, and capabilities we've seen in a long time from Intel.
However, with the desktop space set to get a Raptor Lake Refresh line-up of CPUs next month under the traditional Intel Core i7 and i9 banner and the new laptop and mobile Meteor Lake CPUs set to sport the new Core Ultra branding, it's all a little confusing. This raises the question of when we'll see the new Meteor Lake architecture and the CPU rebrand in the desktop space.
Even though Intel's 14th Generation Core processors are coming this year, the company has confirmed that desktop Meteor Lake is on the cards for 2024.

MSI motherboards to feature a one-click 'Beyond 6 GHz' boost for upcoming 14th Gen Intel CPUs
MSI's MEG Z790 ACE MAX is a new, premium, and feature-packed motherboard designed for "Intel's Next-Gen and 13th Gen Core processors." With that, it will probably be the final high-end board from MSI that will use the LGA-1700 platform before Intel transitions to the new LGA-1851 socket with the arrival of Meteor Lake in 2024.

Looks like Valve is updating SteamVR for a big overhaul and a possible new headset
When it launched in 2019, the Valve Index was one of the most advanced VR headsets to hit the market - bolstered by excellent software support in the form of SteamVR. With the per-eye resolution of 1440 x 1600 pixels, wide field-of-view (FOV), and high refresh-rate support, it's still a capable headset. Not to mention Valve's excellent Index Controllers being designed specifically for VR.
However, with multiple wires to connect the headset and tracking reliant on base stations that you need to wire and power, even on Steam, the Index has been overtaken by the more consumer-friendly Meta Quest 2. The Quest 2, like the recent PSVR 2 headset for the PlayStation 5, adopts an inside-out tracking approach (with the latter offering full eye-tracking) with a single-cable solution.
In the case of the Quest 2, the option to go wireless. This makes recent updates and changes to SteamVR exciting, pointing to a massive overhaul. And with new battery information and rumors surrounding Valve's "Deckard" headset hardware swirling - Steam VR 2.0 and the Index 2.0 could be here soon.
Google's new AI breakthrough is a 'big step forward' to creating 'life-saving treatments'
Google DeepMind has created a new AI system that is capable of detecting genetic mutations that may lead to diseases.
A new study published in the journal Science details a new AI model called AlphaMissense, which is an improvement on the AI model AlphaFold that DeepMind announced it achieved in 2020. As you can probably imagine, this AI model has been "fine-tuned" with genetic data from humans and primates, giving it its ability to detect what is called "missense" mutations, which are mutations that occur within a single letter of the DNA code.
Notably, these missense mutations can lead to illnesses such as cell anemia, cystic fibrosis, and cancer, but currently, levels of genetic disease hunters have only identified 0.1 percent of missense genes as good or bad. DeepMind's AI tool has now identified 71 million missense mutations, and of those has been able to classify 89% of the total variants as "either likely benign or likely pathogenic." This AI data has been released to the wider public in an effort to assist physicians around the world.
iPhone 16 Pro to get upgraded camera that may raise costs by 30%
In classic Apple fashion, the iPhone 15 Pro Max's tetraprism telephoto camera is expected to make its way into the next-generation iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max next year. However, there will be some changes, according to one industry analyst.
It's typical of Apple's flagship Pro Max model to debut a new technology that eventually ends up in its cheaper models of iPhone once manufacturing and cost of that new technology reaches an appropriate level. According to industry analyst Ming-Chi Kuo in a new Medium post, he has heard news that Apple has asked its supplier of the iPhone 15 Max's new tetraprism telephoto lens to increase specifications for the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max in order to keep up with demand.
The analyst says that Apple is asking its supplier to increase specifications in order to boost yields, but there is a problem that may fall back on consumers. This purported increase in specifications is said to come with a price increase of about 30%, taking the original cost of the telephoto lens from $6 to $6.50. It's unclear if this price hike will fall back on consumers.

GeForce RTX 4090 is limited to 120 Hz on the dual 4K 240 Hz Samsung Odyssey G9 Neo monitor
Recently, we had the chance to go hands-on with Samsung's Odyssey Neo G95NC, an impressive 57-inch 32:9 aspect ratio ultrawide gaming monitor. With its 1000R curvature, Quantum Matrix Technology (mini-LED) for brightness and contrast, 240Hz refresh rate (over DisplayPort 2.1 and HDMI 2.1), and 1ms response time, it's no wonder we called it "simply mind-blowing."
Throw in a resolution of 7,680 x 2,160, and Samsung is touting it as the world's first dual-4K gaming display - essentially two high-end 4K monitors Frankenstein-ed into a brand new monster. With a price tag of USD 2,499, the Samsung Odyssey Neo G9 is a luxury item destined for the most lavish dedicated PC gaming spaces.
And with that, you'd assume that an incredible over-the-top beast of a gaming monitor would demand to be paired with the most powerful GPU currently available - the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090. Well, it turns out there is one major problem. Connecting NVIDIA's flagship gaming GPU with Samsung's Odyssey Neo G9 limits the 8K (or dual 4K) output to 120 Hz.
Here's how much titanium is actually in the iPhone 15 Pro and what it's worth
A YouTuber has taken apart Apple's recently released iPhone 15 Pro Max to see exactly how much titanium is present in the new chassis.
Apple announced that its latest generation of iPhone Pro models will feature a new and improved titanium chassis that the company describes as an "aerospace-grade titanium design" that uses "the same alloy that spacecraft use for missions to Mars." Notably, Apple also states that due to the adoption of titanium, the latest Pro model devices are the lightest iPhone Pros ever released.
JerryRigEverything has put those statements from Apple and others to the test by completely dismantling a new iPhone 15 Pro Max. After removing the front glass and the myriad of tiny screws, the YouTuber uses an angle grinder to cut the chassis in half. The cross-section of the chassis reveals that Apple has used approximately 1mm of titanium to overlay an aluminum chassis. The titanium is on the outside, while the aluminum is on the inside.

Microsoft expects Xbox Game Pass to deliver nearly $8 billion in revenue by 2030.
New leaks from Microsoft reveal ambitious plans for its $16 billion games division. The tech giant not only wants to make Xbox the top gaming console on the market, but it also wants to radically transform Xbox Game Pass into the leading and revenue-dominant gaming subscription available today.
Microsoft estimates that Xbox could by worth $36 billion by 2030, driven primarily by games sales, microtransactions, and purchases made on console, PC, and the cloud--in fact, Microsoft expects Xbox to make $16.9 billion from transactions by 2030, which is more than the total amount that Xbox makes today.
