This iPhone 15 Pro teardown shows the A17 Pro and more
While most people are still waiting for their new iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro models to arrive on their doorsteps, some people have been lucky enough to get their hands on them already. And one of those decided that they wanted to see what was going on inside. In this case, it was the iPhone 15 Pro and PBKreviews took the handset apart to see what makes it tick.
The video was actually in the name of repairability - they wanted to see how easy it would be to repair the iPhone, especially given Apple's claims that it is easier to replace the back glass this time out. And, it turns out, Apple was right.
You can watch the full video above but the gist is that replacing the back glass on an iPhone 15 Pro or iPhone 15 Pro Max is much easier than doing it on an iPhone 14 Pro or iPhone 14 Pro Max. PBKreviews explains that all a repair shop would need to do is heat the back of the iPhone and then pry the back glass off before disconnecting a single flex cable. The back glass itself also includes the MagSafe charging coil and other connectors.

The iPhone 15 isn't even here yet and it already has a new software update
Apple's iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro models will go on sale in just a few short hours and people are eagerly awaiting their preorders. And while they'll come with iOS 17 preinstalled, that won't be the software that they run for all that long after Apple today released an iOS 17.0.2 update.
The new update arrived alongside iOS 17.0.1, a release that is available for all other devices compatible with iOS 17. Interestingly, this new iOS 17.0.2 update is only available for the new iPhones and it isn't yet clear when we can expect it to roll out to older models.
We have to imagine that the iOS 17.0.2 update includes the same fixes as the iOS 17.0.1 release but with some iPhone 15-specific tweaks. With that in mind, we can expect the new iPhones to also benefit from the same bug fixes and security improvements that the iOS 17.0.1 update makes available to all other handsets.
The Division 3 revealed, but The Division 2 isn't going anywhere
Ubisoft has officially confirmed that The Division 3 is in development, and will be lead by the series' original game director.
The Division 3 is on the horizon, but Ubisoft says that the new shooter-looter won't replace The Division 2. Instead, both games will run simultaneously in parallel with one another--a trend we've seen with games like Destiny, Overwatch, and the upcoming Path of Exile 2.
Ubisoft confirms that Julian Gerighty, who acted as game director for the original The Division game, will not only return to the franchise but lead it going forward. "A core focus of Gerighty's is to build a team for Tom Clancy's The Division 3, which will be led by Massive Entertainment, while making sure Tom Clancy's The Division 2 remains well supported," Ubisoft said.

Windows 11's next big update debuts on September 26 complete with Copilot AI
Windows 11's next big update is set to arrive next week - yes, next week, rather out of the blue - and it'll be coming with Copilot, Microsoft's big AI gambit for the OS.
Microsoft made the announcement at its press event in New York today, spending a good deal of time chewing over exactly how Copilot will make a big difference to Windows 11 users.
As The Verge reports, Microsoft confirmed that September 26 is the date to mark for the launch of Windows 11 Moment 4 and the debut of Copilot.
AOC unveils the CQ27G2S-BK 2560 x 1440p 1500R curved gaming monitor
AOC is attempting to hit the sweet spot for gaming with its newest addition to its line-up of gaming monitors. Introducing, the CQ27G2S/BK.
The new gaming monitor from AOC features a 2560 x 1440 (QHD) resolution that is a VA panel capable of reaching a top refresh rate of 165Hz. As for response times, the CQ27G2S/BK rocks a solid 1ms MPRT to make sure frames are blurry of ghosting begins to occur at higher refresh rates. Additionally, the CQ27G2S/BK is a 27-inch VA panel, which means it will come with a contrast ratio of 3000:1, and 99% sRGB coverage.
Other features include Adaptive-Sync technology designed to smooth out frames and reduce tearing, and a 1500R curvature for increased immersion levels. Buyers will also be able to use HDR10, and during long gaming sessions enable Low Blue Light mode to reduce eye strain. AOC Gaming will be debuting the CQ27G2S/BK by the end of September and it will be launching with a price tag of $272.

Cyberpunk 2077, Phantom Liberty, and DLSS 3.5 - Ray tracing on PC just leveled up
The best visuals in the world and the most technically advanced graphics mean very little if the game isn't great - it always begins and ends with gameplay. After spending several hours with Cyberpunk 2077's Update 2.0 and the new Phantom Liberty expansion, it's safe to say that the massive amount of changes, the new story, and the new district of Dogtown to explore delivers on that initial hype surrounding the game back in 2020.
From the revamped combat, skills, and policing system to a Night City that feels alive with things to see and do, Cyberpunk 2077 is a revelation three years later. On top of this, the new RT Overdrive mode brings full path-traced lighting to the game, and the brand new DLSS 3.5 AI-powered 'Ray Reconstruction' takes the ray-traced visuals to a whole new level.
With or without DLSS 3.5, Cyberpunk 2077 is still one of the best-looking and most technically advanced games you can play on PC, assuming you've got a powerful enough GPU from the GeForce RTX 30 or 40 Series. With Ray Reconstruction, let's just say it's the beginning of a bright, neon-lit future.
Gamer plays Resident Evil with an iPhone 15 Pro, external monitor and a PS5 controller
A YouTuber has decided to test the gaming capabilities of Apple's iPhone 15 Pro following the device unveiling event, including an example of it running AAA titles such as Assassin's Creed and Resident Evil.
The significant leap in mobile gaming capabilities can be attributed to the A17 Pro chip, which, according to Apple, will be able to play games such as Assassin's Creed Mirage, Resident Evil Village, and Resident Evil 4 by early 2024. Another addition to the iPhone 15 Pro is the adoption of USB-C, which has enabled the possibility of connecting your iPhone to an external monitor via a USB-C to DisplayPort cable. YouTuber Vincent Zhong shared footage of him utilizing this exact setup, and the footage that is shown in the above video is incredibly impressive.
Resident Evil Village appears to be running very smoothly, with no noticeable frame drops at a decent resolution of 1560 by 720. Notably, the framerate is locked at 30FPS, and while many PC gamers would be yawning at the resolution and framerate, they should consider what is powering this gaming experience. This is all powered by a small mobile device and is fully achievable through the use of one cable with no extra hardware required - a monumental achievement in the world of mobile gaming.
NASA captures stunning video of a probe flying through extremely powerful Sun eruption
NASA's Sun probe has captured a stunning video of it passing through one of the Sun's most powerful eruptions ever recorded.
The above GIF is footage captured by NASA's Parker Solar Probe, and it shows an event that took place late last year in September. The video was released by Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory and showcases a coronal mass ejection (CME), which is an eruption of solar plasma. CMEs can come in a variety of intensities, with most being billions of tons of plasma and shooting a wave of charged particles into a specific direction in space.
These charged particles travel at ridiculous speeds, with the Parker Solar Probe recording during this event particles accelerating "up to 840 miles per second". Recordings such as these are exactly what the Parker Solar Probe was designed for - providing critical data of solar events that are then relayed back to researchers on Earth to study patterns and, hopefully, learn more about our Sun so more accurate space weather predictions can be made.
Baldur's Gate 3 massive new patch won't be here today - but will arrive tomorrow we're told
The third big patch for Baldur's Gate 3 was supposed to be arriving today, but that isn't going to happen - it's been subject to a slight delay.
Developer Larian took to X (formerly Twitter) to let us know that patch three wouldn't be coming on September 21 as initially promised, but that it'll be here the following day, on September 22.
As delays go, that's a pretty palatable one, and still means that Baldur's Gate 3 players will get the benefit of the new patch before the weekend rolls around.

Nintendo Switch trailer for the ugly Mortal Kombat 1 port features a Steam Achievement popup
Mortal Kombat 1 has been receiving rave reviews from several critics. I've been playing it on PC, which has been a lot of fun. Paired with a GeForce RTX 4070 and a Radeon RX 7800 XT (reviewing GPUs means you can play the same game with different hardware), it looks fantastic - and even a little disturbing when the violence is dialed up to 11.
Playing it on Nintendo Switch, though, and it's an entirely different experience. Over the past week, the Switch version of the game has gained quite the notoriety due to the visual disparity between it and the PS5 version, with characters looking ugly and weird and the overall detail looking like something from the PS2 era.
Many believe that charging the same price for a visually inferior version of the game that performs worse is a bad move by publisher Warner Bros. Games. UK government move to censor Russel Brand despite allegations not proving guilt
A document has gone viral showcasing a move by the UK government to censor Russel Brand following numerous allegations.
The actor, comedian, and pollical commentator was accused of rape, sexual assault, and emotional abuse between the years of 2006 and 2013. These allegations are yet to be proven, and Brand has denied their validity in a video posted to his social media platforms. Now, a document has surfaced on X that reveals the British Government is attempting to get Brand's social media platforms censored, which has been viewed by many as a way of manipulating the court of public opinion.
The document requests TikTok provide the UK government with information relating to Brand's monetization of content that has to do with the allegations. With the letter requesting, "We would be grateful if you could confirm whether Mr. Brand is able to monetize his TikTok posts, including his videos relating to the serious accusations against him, and what the platform is doing to ensure that creators are not able to use the platform to undermine the welfare of victims of inappropriate and potentially illegal behavior."
NVIDIA is amazed and proud that DLSS works when modded into games without native support
We're now at a stage where NVIDIA's DLSS rendering technology on PC has matured to the point where if it's not included in a major AAA-style release, many begin to wonder why. This led to the recent community backlash and speculation surrounding the PC launch of Starfield, which only featured support for AMD's impressive but inferior FSR 2 technology.
Was its omission a calculated move that was part of the overall partnership between Bethesda and AMD? We'll probably never know, but the good news is that DLSS is officially being integrated into Starfield. The better news? Modders managed to add DLSS Super Resolution and Frame Generation support into the game ahead of its full release in a single day.

Earth gets smacked with powerful solar storm triggering auroras around the world
The Sun hurled a wave of charged particles at Earth, resulting in a powerful solar storm that pushed auroras much closer to the equator than usual.
The event began on September 16 when a solar filament caused a coronal mass ejection (CME) to launch out from the Sun toward Earth. A CME is essentially a wave of solar particles that can collide with our planet's magnetic field. This interaction between the charged particles and molecules in Earth's atmosphere causes molecules in Earth's atmosphere to be charged, producing incredible colors commonly called auroras.
Our planet funnels the Sun's charged particles toward the poles, hence the Northern and Southern Lights only appearing near the planet's top and bottom. However, during a solar storm, these auroras can be spotted much closer to the equator due to the abundance of charged particles interacting with the atmosphere. Each time the Sun smacks Earth with a CME, photographers have a prime opportunity to capture some incredible photographs of the natural phenomena, and this time was no different. NASA space telescope spots an intergalactic bridge between two realms
NASA's Hubble Space Telescope has snapped an incredible image of a "bridge" between two colliding galaxies located nearly 500 million light years away from Earth.
The European Space Agency (ESA) has released the image of Arp 107, a pair of galaxies that are slowly but surely merging to form a massive galaxy. Using its Advanced Camera for Surveys, NASA and the ESA's Hubble Space Telescope snapped an image showcasing the faint "bridge" linking the two galaxies.
The galaxy on the left is a Seyfret galaxy, which is a galaxy that houses an active galactic nuclei, or supermassive black hole at its core. The black hole-consuming matter results in a strong glow, as displayed by the image.

This free app turns your iPad into an HDMI monitor
The iPad is already arguably the best tablet on the planet but it would be even better if you could turn it into a monitor at will. And sure enough, now you can do just that thanks to a cool new app that won't cost you a thing.
That app is Orion, and it's been put together by the same people who created the popular Halide camera app on the iPhone. Once installed on an iPad running iPadOS 17 or later, and assuming that iPad has a USB-C port, you'll be able to plug just about anything into your tablet. and see what's going on.
The uses here are pretty obvious. You could plug a laptop into an iPad to get an external display, for example. Other ideas floated by the Orion team include a portable gaming monitor that would allow you to plug an Xbox, PlayStation, or Switch into it for on-the-go gaming. A more professional use? Photographers and videographers can plug their iPad into their cameras and get a live preview of what they're capturing, too.

Samsung's Galaxy Buds FE just leaked in a big way
We've been hearing things about the unannounced Samsung Galaxy Buds FE for a few weeks at this point and while Samsung itself is yet to confirm anything, it now looks increasingly likely that we should expect them to debut within the next few weeks. And they've just leaked again, with more information becoming available including an expected price.
The Galaxy Buds FE were always expected to play at the budget end of the market given that FE moniker and that looks very much to be the case right now. The Galaxy Buds FE will reportedly sell for $99.99, assuming retailers don't discount them even further. That's according to a new WinFuture report that also details some other pre-release information, too.
According to that report, the new Galaxy Buds FE will come in two colors; Graphite Gray and White. No matter which color you choose you can expect to get earbuds that can have their media playback controlled by touching the outer surface. On the inside, a 12mm single driver will be used with Samsung saying that we can expect improved bass playback, but we'll need to test these things before we can comment on that.

Archaeologists uncover half-a-million-year-old sample that's changed human history
Archaeologists have made an incredible discovery on a river bank in Zambia, a discovery that may change how ancient human history is viewed forever.
A new study published in the scientific journal Nature details a discovery of ancient wooden logs that appear to have been used for a small wooden hut. The University of Liverpool scientist Professor Larry Barham led the project called Deep Roots of Humanity, which was responsible for the excavation of the sample and the follow-up analysis. The study states that the ancient logs are approximately 476,000 years old. Additionally, the team discovered ancient human wooden tools such as digging sticks.
The researchers pointed out one of the tools was discovered at right angles to each other. These pieces of wood had been clearly cut by stone tools to fit together with the goal of making a bigger structural object. These samples may be the oldest ancient wooden tool discovery found so far, with the BBC reporting 400,000-year-old samples were found in prehistoric sands at Clacton-on-Sea, Essex, in 1911.
