Kanye West begins showing off his new video game

Anthony Garreffa | Gaming | Feb 11, 2016 9:25 PM CST

While Kayne West is preparing the release of his forthcoming album, the husband of Kim Kardashian has released a trailer to his new video game... yeah, Yeezy has a new video game on its way.

Kanye West begins showing off his new video game

West's new album is called The Life of Pablo, while his new clothing line is on the way, and then the video game. Yeezy has been busy, it seems. The game is called Only One, and it's about the passing of his late mother. Kanye explains: "I worked on a video game and I wanted to show y'all. The idea of the game is, my mom traveling through the gates of heaven".

Kanye is proud of his game, but he wasn't happy with how people received the trailer, as it was meant to commemorate his late mother. Kanye said: "That's not easy to do, man! Ya'll just be acting like that sh*t is regular". He added: "No, you don't understand. I go out and meet with everybody in San Fran, and they'll diss the f*** out of me. And I'll be like, 'I wanna make a game,' and they'll be like, 'F*** YOU.' That was hard to do, bro!".

Unity answers Unreal's VR Editor with its own VR-in-VR dev toolset

Derek Strickland | Extended Reality (XR) | Feb 11, 2016 7:34 PM CST

Not content with letting Unreal have all the fun, Unity has revealed its own toolset that enables devs to build games while in virtual reality. Now developers can literally tweak games while standing in their creations, which could open up the doors to amazing possibilities down the road.

Unity answers Unreal's VR Editor with its own VR-in-VR dev toolset

Unity's VR-in-VR scene editing toolset is called SceneVR, and is a direct contender to Unreal's recently unveiled VR Editor. Using an Oculus Rift headset, Unity engineer Timoni West showcased a SceneVR preview at this year's Vision AR/VR Summit.

Using SceneVR, West was able to manipulate in-game objects in real-time. She started off with filling in a basic modern rooftop scene, all the while discussing basic features of the suite. West affirmed that the team is still working on optimizing SceneVR to make it more user-friendly, and that it'll be just as customizable in VR as Unity is to 3D.

Netflix completes migration to Amazon Web Services at last

Sean Ridgeley | Connectivity & Cloud | Feb 11, 2016 7:02 PM CST

After seven years of effort, Netflix has finally completed the migration of its database and infrastructure to the cloud -- Amazon Web Services, specifically.

"Our journey to the cloud at Netflix began in August of 2008, when we experienced a major database corruption and for three days could not ship DVDs to our members," Netflix explains in a new blog post. "That is when we realized that we had to move away from vertically scaled single points of failure, like relational databases in our datacenter, towards highly reliable, horizontally scalable, distributed systems in the cloud."

The company says it chose AWS for its great scale and broad set of services and features.

Rainbow Six Siege update 2.1 now on PC, adds custom dedicated servers

Jeff Williams | Gaming | Feb 11, 2016 4:04 PM CST

When patch 2.0 hit, it seemed to break the game in more ways than was intended. Ubisoft was quick on the draw and dolled out fixes for a majority of the most serious of issues. Patch 2.1 fixes the remainder of the bugs that showed up and adds some much needed variety into the mix.

One of the bets new features is the ability to setup a 10-player custom game that can be hosted on a dedicated server. This means it'll be much harder to cheat and the game will be much more stable as well. There are some small issues still surrounding the use of dedicated custom servers, but those will be addressed in the future. Right now if the match creator quits, then the server will shut down.

In the patch note they've listed the most severe bugs and have noted their having been squashed in this update. It isn't everything that was encountered, but it encompasses the majority of the game-breaking issues that cropped up. Check out what it fixed below. And don't be afraid to tell them of any other bugs you encounter. The patch is out now on PC and will come to consoles on the 16th.

Total War: Warmahmmer trailer shows off the majestic Empire campaign

Jeff Williams | Gaming | Feb 11, 2016 2:03 PM CST

A new trailer for Total War: Warhammer has shown up that shows off yet another aspect of the large campaign. This time they're giving us a peak into the strategic underpinnings of the mighty Empire, much like the video showcasing the Greenskins they revealed in December.

It gives a good glimpse into how they've put together the entire package, going over the different elements of the UI and the Empire specific elements. The walkthrough is a great tutorial of how to play and how to best make use of your resources to ensure victory over your neighbors. Remeber to use cattle to make those settlements happy and to put your Legendary Lords to good use.

At the moment Creative assembly is looking at an April release date and it looks like everything is on track. Of course this is a game that can only be properly enjoyed on the PC given the demanding requirements, due to potential resource size in any given game, and the amount of control you'll have over the different aspects.

Ubisoft confirms no Assassin's Creed for 2016

Derek Strickland | Gaming | Feb 11, 2016 1:31 PM CST

Ubisoft has broken the annual plan for one of its primary IP's and confirms that 2016 will be the first year without a major Assassin's Creed game. That's right, we won't be getting a new AC game this year.

The devs broke the news in a blog post, citing that the problems with AC: Unity prompted the team to "re-examine" the franchise's game plan.

"This year, we also are stepping back and re-examining the Assassin's Creed franchise. As a result, we've decided that there will not be a new Assassin's Creed game in 2016," the Assassin's Creed team wrote in the post.

Need for Speed coming to PC in March, 4K and unlocked framerate

Jeff Williams | Gaming | Feb 11, 2016 1:03 PM CST

The 2015 version of Need for Speed was delayed time and again for the PC, citing the need to ensure that the game is developed to its fullest potential. Namely to make sure that PC players could have the options they desire for the best looking game ever. A release date has finally been set for March 17th.

And it's coming fast too. That is, the framerate will definitely be unlocked and you'll be able to adjust the graphics just like you would on any Frostbite powered game. But aside from ensuring the graphics are up to snuff, Ghost Games has been hard at work putting in a new manual transmission mode, something you'll be able to use with your favorite wheel.

The Icons and Legends updates will be included when it releases and the Showcase update is scheduled to arrive on the PC version a little after it releases. Ghost Games has been dedicating a portion of their team on perfecting the PC experience, so it'll be natural to have higher expectations when it arrives. But of course we'll check it out when it gets here.

Telsa's new 'Summon' feature parks, and retrieves your Model S vehicle

Anthony Garreffa | Electric Vehicles & Cars | Feb 11, 2016 12:09 PM CST

One of the coolest new features being rolled out to the Model S is its new "Summon" feature, which is part of Tesla Motors' v7.1 software for the Model S.

Telsa's new 'Summon' feature parks, and retrieves your Model S vehicle

Summon will allow Model S owners to park, and retrieve their Model S vehicles without being inside of the car, or even near it. But, Consumer Reports' latest video has some testing done with Summon, which failed some of their safety tests. They found if you exited the Tesla app on the iPhone 6S while the Model S was moving out of its park, the car would continue to move - which is worrying.

Telsa has been playing with the smartphone app, limiting its Summon abilities for this very reason. The key fob that Model S owners have will be able to stop the car, but not drive it - while the app itself will require users to have their finger on the screen for the feature to work.

Gabe Newell gave away HTC Vive Pre's like Santa Claus at Unity event

Jeff Williams | Extended Reality (XR) | Feb 11, 2016 11:07 AM CST

There are few moments in life where you become so surprised that your mouth literally hangs agape at home. But watching Gabe Newell, usually a quiet, reserved and mysterious person that rarely makes public appearances do something this generous is one of those. He gave away HTC Vive Pre's at the 2016 Unity Vision Summit like a veritable Oprah.

Gabe Newell gave away HTC Vive Pre's like Santa Claus at Unity event

Even though it's pretty clearly a marketing stunt and probably doesn't cost Valve very much to give them away, it's still an incredible gesture to the assembly of people eagerly awaiting his presence. He appeared on screen with a fluffy white beard and did what only the Internet Santa Claus can do, give away awesome prizes.

Lord Gaben has a surprising way of exciting crowds, even if there are plenty of people who disagree with how he runs his business. But this was is moment, or his Oprah moment as he proclaimed. "And our third announcement, I get to have my Oprah moment, all the developers at the Vision Summit get their own Vive. You get a Vive. You get a Vive. You get a Vive. And you get a Vive. I'm very excited to see what you guys come up with and I hope you enjoy it."

LG unveils the touch-enabled Quick Cover for its unannounced G5 phone

Anthony Garreffa | Mobile Devices | Feb 11, 2016 10:23 AM CST

We still don't know what the G5 smartphone will arrive as, but LG has just taken the wraps off of the touch-enabled Quick Cover for its forthcoming flagship smartphone.

LG announced the touch-enabled Quick Cover for the unreleased and unannounced G5 smartphone, teasing the G5 as a "smartphone that does not officially exist". LG continued, saying that the cover is wrapped in "a unique film with a glossy metallic finish" for a premium feel. The G5's touch-enabled Quick Cover will also allow owners to take calls and control alarm settings through its semitransparent mesh material, without having to open the case and reveal the G5.

We should expect the always-on display from the G5 to be front and center, literally, when the G5 is announced on February 21 during Mobile World Congress.

Rocket League's second season kicks off with a bang

Jeff Williams | Gaming | Feb 11, 2016 10:01 AM CST

Rocket League is an obvious choice of game to compete with. It's a blend of some of the two best things in the world, so it's a no-brainer to bake competition right into the framework. Season two has now begun, and there are a lot of changes, with new maps in the future too.

The new season means a new patch with a few changes for a fresh perspective on competitive play. Overall they've de-emphasized individual performance and have shifted the focus to be more about improving your game. Sure, winning is great, but improving your skill counts for something too.

The ranking system is completely new and you'll have to play ten matches to determine what skill division you'll be placed into. If you played in the first season, that data about how great you are will remain, so you'll be placed in an appropriate level. So you won't have to worry about starting completely over.

Quantum Break not an Xbox One Exclusive, coming to PC on April 5th

Jeff Williams | Gaming | Feb 11, 2016 9:24 AM CST

Quantum Break was originally touted as an Xbox One exclusive when it was announced in 2014, but that's changed as it's now been announced to be coming to the PC on April 5th.

Microsoft and Remedy Entertainment are wanting to "empower gamers" to enjoy whatever platform they want, within reason of course, so the extreme time manipulating game will be coming to Windows 10 as well, and if you pre-order on the Xbox One, you'll get the PC version for free. Any version of the game will net you a digital download token that you can use at the Windows Store.

They've also just announced the Quantum Break special bundle, that includes a snow white 500GB Xbox One with the game and the extra free Alan Wake games. Why 500GB when 1TB could easily be included? That's a good question, especially considering the increasing size of games.

Jeff Williams | Gaming | Feb 11, 2016 9:04 AM CST

Blade and Soul reached a concurrent player record in the EU and the US in nearly no time at all. Only a mere three weeks after NCSoft brought the MMO to the west it's now peaking at well over 2 million players.

In the press-release they confirmed the staggering number of people enjoying the game, stating that "NCSOFT has confirmed that Blade & Soul has now surpassed 2 million players in the US and Europe, only three weeks since its official launch." They also talked about the new content that's now live.

Rising Waters, the new update, is adding a significant amount to the core of the game. A new party dungeon known as Bloodshade Harbor, which is available only to those that have reached level 45, and should have some of the hardest bosses you can imagine.
