Star Citizen singleplayer campaign delayed indefinitely

Derek Strickland | Gaming | Oct 10, 2016 3:17 PM CDT

Star Citizen's anticipated singleplayer campaign module, Squadron 42, has been delayed indefinitely.

Star Citizen singleplayer campaign delayed indefinitely

Cloud Imperium Games announced Squadron 42's delay during last night's Citizencon livestream, saying the campaign is no longer on for 2016. Star Citizen dev Chris Roberts affirmed that "most of the base technology is now complete," but the team needs time to optimize GPU and CPU implementation, shore up the game's objective-based NPC AI, and fix object container streaming.

Seeing as the studio has yet to fully polish and optimize a single level of the 28 mission campaign for release, it's easy to see why the entire Squadron 42 campaign has been delayed. The team is currently trying to finalize one mission to pristine polish and then show it off to the community.

Mass Effect: Andromeda release date possibly leaked

Derek Strickland | Gaming | Oct 10, 2016 1:14 PM CDT

BioWare has been quite secretive about Mass Effect: Andromeda's release date, but the release date may have been leaked ahead of schedule.

Mass Effect: Andromeda release date possibly leaked

Mass Effect: Andromeda will release on March 21, 2017, according to an Amazon listing for the Art of Mass Effect: Andromeda artbook. The listing assures the artbook, which comes out on March 21, 2017, will "release simultaneously along the game."

BioWare has also listed the artbook on their own storefront, but the release date is "early 2017" and there's no mention of a simultaneous launch alongside of the game. This adds credence to the leak as BioWare would assuredly hide any mention of a simultaneous release to protect the release date's secrecy.

Mysterious Mars has a flag and Yemen wannabe owners

Lana Jelic | Science, Space, & Robotics | Oct 10, 2016 12:26 PM CDT

We've learned a lof about Mars in the past decades thanks to probes and rovers that are studying the closest planet to Earth. If everything goes as planned, Mars could become our second home someday. Elon Musk has ambitious plans in colonizing Mars, and he isn't the only one who wants to send people to the Red Planet. Just last week Dennis Muilenburg, the CEO of The Boeing Company, stated that he is convinced that the first humans to set foot on Mars will get there by a Boeing rocket.

Whoever sends the first people to Mars will set a huge milestone in the history of humankind. It will mark the first time a human being has set foot on another planet, and it could happen during our lifetime. Can you just imagine how exciting it must have been for people around the world sitting in front of TVs and watching the first Moon landing? We could experience the same, but this time the space exploration will get us much further.

If and when the first people reach Mars, it will also mark the first time a person walked on any other space body other than Earth since 1972 when Eugene Cernan was the last person to walk on the Moon.

Skyrim remaster PC specs revealed, 64-bit Windows only

The biggest selling point of Skyrim: Special Edition is the game's conversion over to 64-bit, which removes the restrictive 4GB RAM cap limit for PC mods. With an unlimited RAM capacity mods can now take full advantage of high-spec PCs and offer even more amazing user-created content. Console versions of Skyrim: Special Edition also get mod support, and Sony has decided to allow PS4 Skyrim mods after all.

Half-Life VR might be in the works for HTC Vive

Derek Strickland | Extended Reality (XR) | Oct 10, 2016 10:39 AM CDT

A bit of mysterious code might indicate Valve is working on a Half-Life VR game for its Vive headset.

Half-Life VR might be in the works for HTC Vive

A few bits of code for "HLVR" were recently found in a new DOTA 2 update, and this could be Valve's way in communicating with its community without making any sort of official announcements. "HLVR" code has been found many times in the Destinations Steam VR app, and its believed the HLVR code is linked to Valve's experimental in-house VR prototype made of Half-Life assets that was used to test out the Source Engine's limits in VR.

"We've said, 'Let's take some existing art and see how it fits,'" Valve programmer Jeep Barnett told Kotaku in an interview back in 2015. "So yeah, we'll grab some headcrabs, we'll grab the machine guns from Half-Life, the rocket launcher-all those different fun things-and see how they play in VR. But right now, it's a tool for exploring the different kind of game designs we want to do."

Stunning video shows capabilities of the Pixel XL camera

Lana Jelic | Mobile Devices | Oct 10, 2016 8:31 AM CDT

Google spent a lot of time talking about the amazing camera on their new Pixel phone, calling it the "best smartphone camera ever made."

The camera of the Pixel and Pixel XL features a 12.3MP sensor with f/2.0, and during the presentation, they showed some amazing photos and videos adding that the speed of the camera and incredible video stabilization technology are very important.

One lucky user supposedly got to test the Pixel XL camera, and he posted an amazing 4K video which shows the possibilities of Google's new phone. He shot the video in two days and according to him, "Pixel XL blows the door of the iPhone 7 Plus when it comes to 4K video", which is quite an accomplishment. He added that the image stabilization needs some work, but overall, the result is amazing, which you can check out in the video below.

Now we've seen it all - a Tesla hearse

Lana Jelic | Electric Vehicles & Cars | Oct 10, 2016 7:28 AM CDT

A Dutch company RemetzCar, specializes in stretching luxury cars into limousines, did a little something different with Tesla's Model S. They turned it into a hearse. True, a hearse isn't the first thing that comes to mind when you mention Tesla, but here it is!

To make this happen, RemetzCar cut the Model S in half and extended it enough to fit a coffin.

A higher roof has been added, as well as huge windows. On their website, the company explained how the "zero-emission sedan proves it is the ideal vehicle for transport during the farewell ceremony."

Unauthorised man enters a house using the Pokemon Go app

Emma Tucker | Gaming | Oct 10, 2016 6:32 AM CDT

Pokemon Go is making gaming headlines once again, though this time, it's not for the latest update or new creature find. A man has recently walked into a civilian's house in search for Pokemon without acknowledging that he had entered.

The news comes direct from BBC under the Freedom of Information Act, that when the Norfolk-based man was questioned about the incident, he told police it was because he was playing Pokemon GO. This currently makes 1 out of 19 Pokemon incidents recorded by Norfolk police in July and August as of this year. This report is one amongst various assaults, driving offences, noise nuisance, and thefts that have also been logged involving the app.

Whilst the popularity of Pokemon Go is at an all-time high, will reports such as this made to the BBC stop gamers from continuing on with the app if safety is at stake? Furthermore, there has been no news from the app developer, Niantic, in regards to this offence reported.

Samsung rumored to have stopped Galaxy Note 7 production

Anthony Garreffa | Mobile Devices | Oct 9, 2016 11:38 PM CDT

Samsung has reportedly pulled an unprecedented move, halting the production of its explosive Galaxy Note 7 smartphone, according to rumors from sources within The Wall Street Journal and Bloomberg. The rumors state Samsung has suspected production of the Galaxy Note 7.

Just recently, an owner had his Note 7 turn into a puff of smoke and heat and accidentally breathed in the smoke, where he later coughed "black stuff" up - his Note 7 was a replacement phone from Samsung that was meant to not have these battery-related issues - and he's not the only one. Another replacement Note 7 caught fire on a Southwest flight in the US, and burnt through the carpet and melted into the floor.

Now we have rumors that Samsung has halted production of the Note 7, so this is big... really big. If the rumors are true, Samsung could expect some serious fallout from this in more ways than one. First, the company is sure to be hit pretty hard with Samsung shares surely dropping harsly if the rumor is comfired by the company. Secondly, the trust in Samsung is now broken for some people - hurting their reputation in consumers' eyes as well as profits and revenue from lost future phone sales.

Mafia III updated, framerate cap has been removed

Anthony Garreffa | Gaming | Oct 9, 2016 10:51 PM CDT

Hangar 13 has shaken off its hangover from the Mafia III release, and in their blurred vision and stomach cramps, realized the wrong of their ways in slapping Mafia III with a framerate cap.

The latest patch for Mafia III on the PC removes the unnecessary framerate cap, so that PC gamers can choose to unlock the framerate for those high refresh rate displays and smoother gameplay - come on Hangar 13... 30FPS lock, really? The patch includes 30FPS, 60FPS and unlimited options, and improvements to the keyboard remapping.

There will be additional improvements made to the PC version of the game, with the developer adding: "We aren't done with fixes and updates and will continue to listen to our community for ways to improve your experience in New Bordeaux".

Forza developer says 'don't give up on Xbox One'

Anthony Garreffa | Gaming | Oct 9, 2016 8:46 PM CDT

Sony is preparing for the launch of its beefier PlayStation 4 Pro console, but that doesn't mean the Xbox One is old and dead now, especially when we have great-looking games like Forza Horizon 3 and Gears of War 4 on the Xbox One.

Well, Forza developer Playground Games and their Creative Director Ralph Fulton, sat down with DailyStar for a chat, where he said: "How much more can you push out of it [The Xbox One]? I would probably just say don't give up on Xbox One, just yet. Developers are always finding new ways to extract more from hardware. ".

He continued: "We're only a couple of years from the Xbox One launch so we're still learning stuff. We're still finding new ways and better ways to do things. It's kinda a point of pride for good developers to always be pushing standards and quality on hardware".

Former PvZ devloper creates new Octopus destroying game

Emma Tucker | Gaming | Oct 9, 2016 10:42 AM CDT

Once a PopCap developer of the world famous Plants vs. Zombies game, George Fan, has recently announced the launch of his brand new invention, 'Octogeddon'. The now indie developer is on a mission according to online sources to have entered a game-making competition called Ludum Dare 24.

The specific goal of this competition was to make an entire video game in just 48 hours! The theme was evolution, in which the art, the code, the music and design was done alone in a first draft by Fan himself. Direct from The Verge, Fan states: "For some reason I thought of an octopus". Hence a giant octopus being the main star of the game.

The trailer released above gives gamers a quick inside look as to what may be expected in his new creation. With the added assistance of PvZ lead artist Rich Werner, and Kurt Pfeifer, who programmed PvZ for the Xbox 360, Fan has created a new team to finish off Octogeddon. This game will certainly differ from Plants V Zombies as the goal will be to destroy humanity instead of saving it. The Octopus will bring havoc on cities by using its tentacles, constantly evolving becoming more deadlier the further you progress in the game.
