When we first heard about a foldable iPhone, we thought we might finally get a screen that could repair itself after a scratch. Instead, Apple's first foldable iPhone, widely expected to cost more than $2,000, could also bring its priciest repair bill yet.
According to a Forbes report, Ricky Panesar, founder of repair specialist iCorrect.co.uk, estimates that replacing the device's inner foldable screen could cost around £850, or roughly $1,155. "I think we're going to see the most expensive repair prices from Apple of any handheld device we've seen in the past," Panesar said.

Panesar expects Apple's version to land considerably higher than both.

Samsung sources its foldable displays from its own Samsung Display unit, keeping replacement parts relatively accessible and affordable. Apple's foldable is also expected to use Samsung Display panels, but it will pair them with a proprietary 3D-printed hinge that repair technicians and consumers haven't tested at scale.
Panesar also expects AppleCare+ pricing to shift for the new device. While standard iPhone repairs have historically cost as little as £29 per incident, he anticipates iPhone Fold repairs could run closer to £100 per incident under AppleCare+. Apple could also reconsider its unlimited-repair coverage given how costly foldable displays are to replace.

Beyond the screen, Panesar flagged the device's side-mounted Touch ID button as another potential repair headache. He called it "not an easy swap" compared to Face ID repairs on Apple's standard iPhones.
