SpaceX's cosmic Roadster driver 'Starman' completes first lap of Sun
Remember when Elon Musk launched a car into space? Well, that Tesla Roadster and its driver 'Starman' have just completed their first lap around the Sun.
When checking out the 'Where is Roadster' website we can see that the cosmic driver has finally managed to complete his first orbit around the Sun. Starman took to the skies 557 days ago when SpaceX launched the Falcon Heavy rocket aimed for orbiting the Sun, and according to the travel data the car has clocked 762 million miles.
Since the car has traveled 762 million miles, it means that it has exceeded its original 36,000-mile warranty over 21,000 times. If you were hoping to spot the roadster from Earth, you unfortunately won't be able to since Earth is currently positioned on the opposite side of the Sun.

Respawn calls Apex Legends players 'ass-hats' and 'freeloaders'
Respawn has been swimming in controversy after the pricing debacle with the cosmetic items in its new Iron Crown Collection event, with the Apex Legends developer taking to the Apex Legends subreddit to apologize and answer some questions.
Repsawn staffer and Reddit poster 'dko5' answered some questions, fanning the nuclear fuel that was being boiled around the Apex Legends subreddit. A list of comments by the Apex_Bot is perfect, collating a bunch of dko5's posts that start with: "We're humans, you know, and we will make mistakes".
The posts continue with dko5 saying that Apex Legends is "not a hugely monetizing game - we just need to make enough money to keep the game going and make more stuff for everyone. When we decided to make Apex Legends a free-to-play game it was imperative that free".

Brain stimulation headset will help treat your depression for $500
The future of treating depression might not be therapy and medication, but rather a headset that you strap on and stimulates your brain in the right ways. Medical technology company Flow out of Sweden is on the forefront of this new wave of technology.
Flow started back in 2016 with Daniel Mansson, CEO of Flow and a clinical psychologist, founded the company after writing his master's thesis on brain stimulation. Mansson also spent years skating between psychology and software, and thus Flow was born. A new hardware product is now being sold as a medication-free treatment to depression.
TechRadar spoke with Mansson, with some hands-on time with the Flow headset. They report that it "looks a bit like a miniature VR headset", sitting on your forehead wiht a band that goes over the top of your head to keep it still. There are two big suction pads that connect to your forehead, with Flow providing single-use cloth pads that sit between your skin and the suction pads.

Super Mario Bros. The Movie deleted scene released, because why not
Super Mario Bros. The Movie was a strange beast of a film... having watched it when I was only 10 years old I was baffled at it as a kid, but as an adult the opinion I have is much different. It's a mess, but it's a classic at the same time -- and now it's back in the headlines with a deleted scene released.
The deleted scene is thanks to the website Super Mario Bros. The Movie Archive, which got their hands-on a VHS tape they acquired from an auction from the estate of producer Roland Joffe. One of the golden gems in that auction was an extended rough cut of Super Mario Bros. The Movie that packed a huge 15 minutes of scenes from the movie that weren't released in cinema, or the home cuts.
One of the additional scenes in the extended cut sees Mario and Luigi talking with other plumbers, with Mike and Doug trying to swindle the Mario Bros into charging more for a job. The thing is, this scene was referenced in the Super Mario Bros. The Movie trading cards and toys at the time, but the scene never made the movie.

NVIDIA CEO: you're CRAZY to buy a non-racing GPU in 2019
NVIDIA has had a ray tracing graphics card on the market for close to a year now, with NVIDIA founder and CEO Jensen Huang having some fighting words for gamers (and its competitor). In NVIDIA's recent earnings call Q&A session, Huang said you'd be crazy to buy a GPU in 2019 without ray tracing support.
NVIDIA founder and CEO Jensen Huang said: "SUPER is off to a super start for and at this point, it's a foregone conclusion that we're going to buy a new graphics card, and it's going to the last 2, 3, 4 years to not have ray tracing is just crazy".
Huang continued: "Ray tracing content just keeps coming out. And between the performance of SUPER and the fact that it has ray tracing hardware, it's going to be super well positioned for throughout all of next year".

Crytek on next-gen consoles: SSD is 'the real game changer'
2020 is going to be the year of the biggest change in the gaming industry, probably ever. Microsoft and Sony will be launching their next-gen Xbox and PlayStation consoles, which will represent the largest leap in consoles ever.
In a new chat with Wccftech and Crytek about Hunt: Showdown, the site asked about their opinion on the early next-gne console specs of the new Xbox and PS5. Crytek replied: "If visual quality will most likely continue to increase in the same large steps as is expected with any new generation of consoles, the real game changer will certainly be the new fast storage that has been promised".
The next-gen Xbox Scarlett and PlayStation 5 consoles will both have PCIe 4.0-powered SSDs offering next-gen speeds of up to 5GB/sec, driving read/write speeds by 10x over a traditional SATA SSD inside of most gamers' PCs. When ALL of your console base has them -- every next-gen Xbox and PlayStation console into the 100 million+ within 5 years of release, it opens up some new doors for game developers.

Elon Musk wants to 'nuke Mars', DOOM dev will lend him the BFG 10000
Elon Musk must've tipped a few back over the weekend as the SpaceX founder and CEO teased the idea of nuking Mars again... but this time, he has t-shirts. Musk took to Twitter over the weekend with a simple tweet:
This isn't the first time Musk has talked about nuking the red planet, where four years ago he went on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert and talked about detonating nuclear bombs over the poles of Mars. Musk said this was one of the strategies of making Mars more livable. The interview with Stephen Colbert is below:
Better yet, the official Twitter account for DOOM tweets out that they want Musk to use their BFG 10000:

Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion reborn in Skyrim's engine, looks enchanting
After seven long, long years of development, the hugely ambitious Skyblivion project shaping up into an "actual video game."
The wizards behind Skyblivion--a total conversion mod that recreates the entirety of Oblivion in the Skyrim engine--have made tremendous progress with the mod since development began in 2012. The small dedicated 50+ team of volunteers just released a trailer showcasing said progress, revealing one of the most amazingly authentic recreations in gaming history.
For all intents and purposes, the TESRenewal team is remastering Oblivion with a free mod. It's actually something I'd pay for on Bethesda's failed Creation Club mod storefront. I absolutely loved Oblivion when it released--it was the purest example of next-gen gaming I've experienced to date--and am total awe of this level of talent, skill, and pure dedication.

Dragon Age 4 is the 'definitive Dragon Age experience,' producer says
Dragon Age 4 senior producer Fernando Melo just left the BioWare, but before went he gave a quick update on the game's progression. Despite BioWare's massive internal studio problems, Melo says Dragon Age 4 is ramping up to be the most ultimate medieval fantasy RPG to date.
BioWare is currently making a new Dragon Age game codenamed Morrison, and from the sounds of it the game will be incredibly ambitious. Now-departed producer Fernando Melo says DA4 will be the definitive project, and hints the game is in a good place development-wise. Melo decided to jump ship during the "least disruptive time," which could mean Dragon Age 4 is farther along in development than we thought.
"With great game leadership in place, a fantastic creative vision, and some of the best devs in the world, Morrison is well underway to becoming the definitive Dragon Age experience--and I'm incredibly proud and honored to have played a part in that. I'll be eagerly awaiting the opportunity to experience the next Dragon Age as a fan this time around," Melo said in an email.

BioWare loses another veteran Mass Effect and Dragon Age developer
Seasoned Mass Effect and Dragon Age producer Fernando Melo leaves BioWare after 12 years, coming just days after the departure of Anthem dev Ben Irving.
The games industry is constantly in flux. People come and go from teams all the time. Projects are developed for years and cancelled suddenly. And there's always so much going on behind the scenes we don't know about. But BioWare is a unique case, and its recent string of departures seem to align with reports of anxiety, depression, and mismanagement endemic in the company.
Now another key dev is leaving BioWare. Fernando Melo, who worked on Dragon Age Origins, Dragon Age 2 and Mass Effect: Andromeda in his 12-year tenure at BioWare, said his departure is entirely his own decision. Melo is leaving to "disconnect and explore a couple ideas for the next chapter" of his career. Before leaving Melo served as senior producer of Dragon Age 4.

Destiny 2's will soon rotate content in and out rather than just add
In an effort to avoid harsh crunch and keep Destiny from growing into an unmanageable leviathan, Destiny 2's seasonal content cadence is changing considerably.
Destiny 2 director Luke Smith confirms Destiny 2's seasons will soon rotate content in and out rather than permanently add content to the game. It's all part of Bungie's ambitious new vision for Destiny which seems the game live up to its original scope: an ever-evolving world full of meaningful events. This new content rotation will also ease the intense crunch and toil Bungie faced while adding Year 2's seasonal content.
In the most recent and last Director's Cut update, Smith says Shadowkeep's new Season 8 will bring a world-changing event. Each season will be its own act, complete with a setup, a middle, and a resolution that fuels another act.

Respawn: Apex Legends isn't viable without high priced skins
Apex Legends developer Respawn is in the hot seat right now for over-monetizing the battle royale shooter with a $170 axe. After lots of pushback from the community, the game's project lead sparks more outrage with some rather choice words.
According to Apex Legends Project Lead Drew McCoy, most players are freeloaders who don't actually pay anything. The new Iron Crown Collection event that kicked off this fiasco was an experiment to see how much Respawn could make. Not a lot of people are buying Apex's lootboxes and skins, McCoy says, and the team is looking for new ways to make money on the free-to-play BR sensation.
The skins probably won't ever become any cheaper, either. McCoy says a price drop wouldn't "move the needle" and the game may not be viable without its higher cosmetic pricing. "There is a wealth of data available on how monetization works in free-to-play games, and we ourselves have run tests by putting skins on sale in the store. The amount of people who spend is crazy low, most of ya'll are freeloaders (and we love that!) and a change in price doesn't move the needle," McCoy said.

Halo 6 creative director leaves, should we be concerned?
Halo 6 creative director Tim Longo leaves 343 Industries after six years, a move that could possibly impacting Halo 6's release date, build quality, campaign vision, and much more.
After six years with 343 Industries, Tim Longo departs the studio as Halo 6 enters its last year of development. The next big Halo game is due out Holiday 2020 alongside Microsoft's next-gen Project Scarlett, and is a tremendous proving ground for the console and 343i. With Halo: Infinite, aka Halo 6, the studio hopes to re-capture the magic of the first game with a spiritual reboot--but that overall vision could change with Longo's departure.
343i is making some changes Halo 6's dev team. Longo, who served as creative director on both Halo 5: Guardians and Halo: Infinite (known as Halo 6), just left the studio. Infinite's campaign team also got a new boss with studio vet Mary Olson, who will now lead the campaign experience. Here's what Microsoft told Kotaku: "Our Executive Producer, Mary Olson will now take charge of the Campaign team on Halo Infinite as the Lead Producer, utilizing her many years of experience at 343 to help craft a great campaign for fans."

New Obi-Wan Star Wars show coming on Disney+, Ewan McGregor to star
Disney plans to bolster its new streaming service with an Obi-Wan Star Wars show, sources tell Variety.
A new Obi-Wan Kenobi spin-off show is in planning phases of development at Disney, and Ewan McGregor is currently in negotiations to star. The project will be a big driver for Disney's new $7 a month Netflix-smashing streaming service, which now combines ESPN, base Hulu with ads, and Disney+ all for $12.99 a month.
The show itself would further bridge the gap between the prequels and original trilogy, fleshing out the timeline already solidified with The Clone Wars animated show. The move comes after rumors and fan requests for an Obi-Wan movie series, but Disney held off because it didn't want to saturate the Star Wars movie market, instead focusing on mainline sequels rather than spin-offs like the ill-fated Han Solo film.

Epic Games Store is changing for the better
The Epic Games Store is slowly but surely morphing into a more competent storefront, complete with features consumers enjoy on Steam.
When it's all said and done, the Epic Games Store should closely resemble Steam. The fledgling marketplace is just now getting more meat on its bones, complete with wide cloud save support across its games. There's still things missing like mods and a shopping cart, but the store is getting a lot better. In a recent update, Epic reveals that more games are supporting cloud saves and the storefront is getting some stylish improvements. 17 new games now support cloud saves, including the free titles Epic gave away this month.
Now the Epic Store sort of resembles a place I'd buy games from. Sure it needs lots of work, but devs now have more tools to make their game's pages look less ramshackle. Presentation is incredibly important, especially when you're trying to convince someone to buy your game without any prior exposure.

Destiny 2's crunch will help streamline Destiny 3
Bungie's learned a lot from Destiny and Destiny 2 over the years, and many of these hard lessons will be used to fuel Destiny 3.
Photo: Joseph Biwald, Bungie
Destiny 2 has changed a lot since 2017. We've seen Bungie add more content than ever before and deliver a consistent slate of new updates, tweaks, and innovations across the sequel, all of which helped successfully monetize and engage millions of players. But all that work took a considerable toll on the team. The annual pass required lots of crunch and intense live game management, which culminated in what Destiny 2 game director Luke Smith calls an "unsustainable development cycle."

Destiny 2's loot has come a long, long way. At the beginning, all the weapons and armors had fixed stats. Now with the game's upcoming Armor 2.0 update, there's a galaxy of potential rolls. Bungie is significantly overhauling the armor system with a massive level of customization, progression, and randomness to feed a bigger focus on RPG elements.
