Capcom's new game Pragmata looks like Death Stranding, but MORE weird

Anthony Garreffa | Gaming | Jun 16, 2020 7:45 PM CDT

One of the most bizarre games shown off during Sony's recent PlayStation 5 event was from Capcom, with a new game called Pragmata. Seriously, you need to check this trailer out:

Capcom's new game Pragmata looks like Death Stranding, but MORE weird

Pragmata was the very last game Sony showed off during its PlayStation 5 event, where it first looked like we were being introduced to Death Stranding 2 and I was instantly almost jaw dropped to the ground that Hideo Kojima had somehow managed to clone himself and the mad man pulled it off - Death Stranding freaking TWO for the PlayStation 5 launch.

Well, it's not Death Stranding 2 but at first you would be easily tricked into it -- until the astronaut fires a flare-like gun into the sky and glances over at the digital echo left behind. The echo turns into a little girl, who is watching a planet in the sky -- a robotic/holographic cat walks up to it with a translucent skin and its digital innards on display.

AMD rumored to delay next-gen Ryzen 4000 cos Ryzen 3000 is too good

Anthony Garreffa | Processors | Jun 16, 2020 7:25 PM CDT

Well this sucks... according to new rumors, AMD has been selling so many Ryzen 3000 series CPUs that it might be delaying the launch of its next-gen Zen 3-based Ryzen 4000 series processors.

AMD rumored to delay next-gen Ryzen 4000 cos Ryzen 3000 is too good

AMD was originally meant to launch its next-gen Zen 3-based Ryzen 4000 series processors in September 2020, but now DigiTimes is reporting that Team Red has pushed that out until early 2021. There is zero competition from Intel that is hurting AMD, and Ryzen 3000 chips are pretty damn kick ass right now -- so there's kind of no reason to launch the Ryzen 4000 series just yet.

I haven't heard much about the delay from my sources, but it makes sense. Coronavirus has smashed the entire world and supply chain, so if I can't get things from the shelves of K-mart... how are they going to pump out some of the most incredibly hard to make products on Earth?

AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT: Big Navi costs $999 in these leaked slides

Anthony Garreffa | Graphics Cards | Jun 16, 2020 6:53 PM CDT

AMD is expected to enter the arena with Big Navi in just a few months time, with its new RDNA 2 architecture powering what should be the new Radeon RX 6000 series led by the flagship Radeon RX 6900 XT.

AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT: Big Navi costs $999 in these leaked slides

A new leak has appeared online teasing all of the specs of the Radeon RX 6900 XT -- but it's so totally fake, for as exciting as it sounds. The Radeon RX 6900 XT, at least in these leaked specs, is a beast. We have a huge 80 compute units offering 22.7 TFLOPs of compute performance, and a gigantic 14GB of GDDR6 memory.

AMD is using 18Gbps GDDR6 memory on the purported Radeon RX 6900 XT in these leaked specs, where over a 448-bit memory bus we have 1008GB/sec of memory bandwidth. The Navi 20 GPU is clocked at 1890MHz base, 2055MHz Game Clock, and up to 2220MHz Boost Clock.

Own Witcher 3 on consoles? You just got a free PC copy too

Derek Strickland | Gaming | Jun 16, 2020 6:01 PM CDT

Today CD Projekt RED announced an interesting initiative: They're giving away a free PC copy of The Witcher 3 to anyone who already owns it on consoles or PC.

Own Witcher 3 on consoles? You just got a free PC copy too

"If you already own the game on any PC or console platform, you can claim the GOG.COM copy for free with GOG GALAXY 2.0. You can expect even more events like this in the future," reads a press release sent out today. Sadly Nintendo Switch isn't eligible for this promo.

There's some catches, though. You'll get a copy of whatever version of the game you have. So if you own The Witcher 3 base game, plus the expansions, you'll only get The Witcher 3 on GoG Galaxy 2.0. You'll have to own Witcher 3 GOTY to get a copy of it on GoG.

Lego, Nintendo join forces to destroy wallets with $580 Mario Legos

Derek Strickland | Gaming | Jun 16, 2020 3:32 PM CDT

The new LEGO Super Mario sets are terrifying both for your psyche and your wallet.

Lego, Nintendo join forces to destroy wallets with $580 Mario Legos

Legos have always been expensive, and those massive . Then again, so have Nintendo products, which hardly ever really go on sale (especially the games). So when these two wallet-destroying forces combine, we get a collection of Mario Lego sets that cost roughly $580 to completely own, which is over $200 more than a Switch and $300 than a Switch Lite.

There's 16 Mario sets in all, and each one adds new characters and "levels" for the interactive Lego-game mashup. No one has to buy all the sets, of course, but you know people will. It's a neat idea that brings Mario's platforming escapades into the 3D realm with everyone's favorite brick-building toys, but this comes at a steep cost.

President Trump exposed to security vulnerability through his own app

Jak Connor | Hacking, Security & Privacy | Jun 16, 2020 6:32 AM CDT

As Trump begins to get back out and rally his supporters for this years election, cybersecurity analysts have noticed some security vulnerabilities with the President's official campaign app.

President Trump exposed to security vulnerability through his own app

If you are wondering what this official campaign app is, it's an app developed specifically for President Trump's reelection campaign. If you head over to this website, and enter your phone number, you will receive a one time SMS to download the free app that will give you exclusive content and campaign updates. It's available on both the App Store and Google Play.

The issue with this app is that cybersecurity analysts, Noam Rotem and Ran Locar, have found some critical security vulnerabilities in the app. According to WebsitePlanet, where the analysts posted their findings, the app's code "revealed keys and secrets, similar to usernames and passwords, that gave access to different parts of the app, such as its Twitter API." The cybersecurity researchers also said, "While the exposed keys allowed access to many parts of the app, we concluded in our investigation that user accounts remained inaccessible through this vulnerability."

Mars, the Red Planet has a green glow around its outside, here's why

Jak Connor | Science, Space, & Robotics | Jun 16, 2020 2:36 AM CDT

Mars is commonly known as the Red Planet, and that is due to the iron oxide prevalent on Mars' surface, which gives it that red tinge.

Mars, the Red Planet has a green glow around its outside, here's why

Now, astronomers have spotted the Red Planet having an outer glow of green. In a new paper published in the journal Nature Astronomy, it's detailed the Trace Gas Orbiter (TGO) has observed the atmosphere of Mars and has observed a green glow. This green glow is a result of Sunlight charging oxygen atoms in the atmosphere of Mars. When oxygen atoms are charged to higher energy levels, they eventually fall back to their resting state, and as a result of that transition, a green glow is produced.

The paper details that the altitude of these charged oxygen particles are anywhere between 80km and 120km, depending on the pressure of CO2. Dr. Manish Patel, co-author of the study said, "By looking at the altitudes of where this emission is, you can actually tell the thickness of the atmosphere and how it's varying. So, if you were to keep observing this phenomenon, you could see the height of the atmosphere change, something it does for example when it heats up during dust storms. This is an issue we face when we try to land on Mars because we're never quite sure just how thick the atmosphere will be when we plough through it to get to the surface."

Samsung Odyssey G9 gaming monitor: 5120 x 1440 @ 240Hz will cost $1700

Anthony Garreffa | Displays | Jun 15, 2020 11:00 PM CDT

Samsung announced its new Odyssey G7 and Odyssey G9 gaming monitors at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) earlier this year -- but now, they're available for pre-order.

Samsung Odyssey G9 gaming monitor: 5120 x 1440 @ 240Hz will cost $1700

There are three different models to choose from, with the larger-than-life 49-inch Odyssey G9 coming in with a native 5120 x 1440 resolution and 1000 nits of brightness. Samsung's other two are in the Odyssey G7 family, with a 27-inch and 32-inch gaming monitor each with a native 2560 x 1440 resolution and 600 nits of brightness.

Samsung uses a flagship QLED panel on the larger 49-inch Odyssey G9, while the lesser (and thus, cheaper) Odyssey G7 gaming monitors use a cheaper VA panel. But, all three models have a ridiculous 240Hz refersh rate -- so if you're buying the Odyssey G9, you might want to wait for that next-gen NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 or RDNA 2-based Radeon from AMD.

Microsoft removes master and slave mentions from GitHub over BLM

Anthony Garreffa | Business, Financial & Legal | Jun 15, 2020 10:15 PM CDT

GitHub is standing behind the Black Lives Matter movement, with the Microsoft-owned company removing coding terms such as "master" and "slave".

Microsoft removes master and slave mentions from GitHub over BLM

If you didn't know, the term "master" and "slave" reference the versions of a software project. In physical terms in computers, IDE HDDs ran on a "master" and "slave" configuration -- one was the first, and the other was the second. Hence, master and slave.

GitHub CEO Nat Friedman replied to a tweet a few days ago to Una Kravets who is the director of product design at Bustle Digital Group. Kravets tweeted: "For what it's worth, I'm *super* happy to rename the default branch structure of "master" to "main" and I hope we can all do this together as a community with @github leading the charge by implementing in their product moving forward".

Jim Keller leaves Intel after 2 years for 'personal reasons'

Anthony Garreffa | Business, Financial & Legal | Jun 15, 2020 9:24 PM CDT

You might not know the name Jim Keller like you would Bill Gates or Jensen Huang or Lisa Su -- but the man is very important. He was the brain child behind AMD's kick ass Zen CPU architecture, and before that he was instrumental in the K7 and K8 architectures.

Jim Keller leaves Intel after 2 years for 'personal reasons'

He left AMD for Samsung in 2015, and then left Samsung for Tesla to work on their custom self-driving car silicon, before leaving Elon Musk's company to join Intel back in 2018. Well, Keller has just left Intel after two years for "personal reasons" but will stay with Team Blue as a consultant for 6 months in a transitional period.

There is some movement in the company in Keller's departure:

Samsung 980 Pro PCIe 4.0 SSD could pump 6.5GB/sec, two months away

Anthony Garreffa | Storage | Jun 15, 2020 8:11 PM CDT

We've been graced with some truly ridiculously fast PCIe 4.0-based SSDs over the last year or so, but it looks like Samsung is ready to give us "the super performance of real PCIe 4.0 SSD".

Samsung 980 Pro PCIe 4.0 SSD could pump 6.5GB/sec, two months away

Samsung is gearing up to launch its new 980 Pro SSD by the end of August 2020, where it will be their first consumer-focused PCIe 4.0 SSD. We can expect some truly insane speeds of up to 6500MB/sec reads, and 5000MB/sec writes which translates to 6.5GB/sec read and 5GB/sec writes -- just let that sink in.

The news is coming from @UniverseIce on Twitter, who tweeted "Samsung 980 Pro SSD will be released within two months, you will see the super performance of real PCIe 4.0 SSD". We did see Samsung show off its insane 980 Pro SSD at CES 2020 earlier this year with crazy speeds.

AMD updates the Radeon logo, prepares for launch of RDNA 2 'Big Navi'

Anthony Garreffa | Graphics Cards | Jun 15, 2020 7:24 PM CDT

AMD looks to be updating its Radeon logo as it forges ahead with its launch plans for the next-gen RDNA 2 architecture, with a new logo appearing during the PC Gaming Show when developer Gearbox Software teased its new game, Godfall.

AMD updates the Radeon logo, prepares for launch of RDNA 2 'Big Navi'

The last time we saw an update to the Radeon logo was during the launch of Polaris under Radeon Technologies Group (RTG) back in 2016. Since then, the entire RTG team has been retconned and now AMD is shifting gears with the Radeon division as it leads into RDNA 2 and of course, next-gen consoles with the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X.

Interestingly, we could see AMD not using the Radeon RX 6000 naming scheme that we've been expecting and maybe something different. Remember we've had the Fiji-based Radeon R9 Fury X (you can see my look in 2020 of that here as I re-benchmarked it) as well as Radeon VII, and Radeon RX Vega 56/64 (another new article on that coming soon).

PlayStation 5 will be quiet and cool, Sony says

Derek Strickland | Gaming | Jun 15, 2020 5:35 PM CDT

Unlike the PS4 Pro which sounds like a jet engine taking off, the PS5 should be pretty silent even when belting out new higher-end games like Gran Turismo 7.

PlayStation 5 will be quiet and cool, Sony says

The PlayStation 5 was designed from the ground up with cooling and noise in mind. In fact, Sony completely changed the CPU and GPU clock speed management to variable frequencies in order to maintain a constant PSU wattage, which would ensure the fans don't rev up to supersonic speeds. The console's ample ventilation, unique chassis, and slight V-shape will work in tandem with this new CPU/GPU variable clock scheme to keep the system cool.

Now we're hearing even more from Sony execs about the PS5's silent and cool operation. In a recent interview with The Guardian, Sony Europe exec Simon Rutter says "a great deal of effort" went into making the PS5's robust heat mitigation.
