Black holes have been a center point for scientific exploration for many years now, and while progress is being made on their understanding, researchers still have a long way to go.

NASA has published a new image of a black hole using its Chandra X-Ray Observatory and the Neil Gehrels Swift Observatory. NASA explains on its website that the above image showcases rings around a black hole located in the binary system called V404 Cygni, that's located approximately 7,800 light-years from Earth. So, what causes these rings to appear in the X-ray image?

The space agency explains that the rings are caused by the black hole pulling material away from a companion star located within its approximate vicinity. The star is estimated to be about half the size of the Sun, and the rings that are clearly seen in the image aren't visible in visible light, but are clear as day through X-ray vision as the material "glows". A team of researchers has captured insane footage of a rare sea creature living at the extreme depth of nearly 10,000 feet.

The team of researchers called Nautilus Live has taken to their YouTube channel to share footage of an expedition down to the unexplored seamount north of Johnston Atoll in the Pacific Ocean. During the expedition, the researchers observed and captured glorious footage of a rare sea creature known as a Solumbellula Sea Pen. The observation marked the first time the sea creature has been spotted in the pacific ocean.

Notably, the Solumbellula Sea Pen is about 15 inches from its 6.5-foot-long stalk. The tentacles seen attached to the creature are for gathering food particles that have floated down to the depths from above, and from the video, you can hear the researchers gasping at their discovery, with one researcher saying that "My mind is blown right now." The researchers speculated on the creature's age and estimated that it would be anywhere between seven to ten years old.

Apple has secured a former Lamborghini exclusive to help design its future Apple Car, after rumors that the Apple Car was in serious trouble.

Luigi Taraborrelli was a 20-year veteran of luxury car maker Lamborghini, who used to lead the chassis and vehicle dynamics division at Lamborghini. Bloomberg reports that Taraborrelli's magic design touch was felt on Lamborghini cars like the Urus, Huracan, and Aventador, as well as Lamborghini's Huracan Sterrato and Asterion concept car.

Apple's mysterious "Project Titan" electric car is reportedly coming in the future, with the last rumors that the Apple Car would have no steering wheel, no brakes, and people could even sleep in it. Apple has been running into serious issues, as a fully autonomous car without a steering wheel and brakes would lead to major issues when it comes to insurance... you can't just be driving people around without any controls to steer, or stop the Apple Car. Accidents happen, and Apple can't be pinned for that.

Intel is truly struggling with its GPU marketing team... with Arc being a total DOA POS, and now MLID is coming out for their throat... and rightfully so. It looks like Intel could have a major "fundamental hardware flaw" inside of the Arc Alchemist GPU scheduler, which is causing issues (amongst the laundry list of things wrong with the Intel Arc GPU). Tom explains: "Igor has started to find, and from what I'm hearing behind the scenes... there's almost certainly a fundamental hardware flaw in the scheduler of Alchemist".

Tom continued: "Can they make things better... can there be mitigations in drivers that they will improve over time... yes... but it's never going to be perfect. It's already having problems above 90FPS consistently at super low resolutions with a weak card... how are they going to get a high-end card to game above 144Hz".

MrBeast is one of the biggest content creators on the planet, with MrBeast aka Jimmy Donaldson, saying to his 100M strong YouTube subscribers that he hopes "to do YouTube until the day I die".

MrBeast tweeted rather humbly: "Over a million people celebrated 100,000,000 subscribers with me. I don't think you could be in the dark about how much of a shit show the Intel Arc GPU has been so far, but I've been pretty damn critical of it... it deserves no defense, until Intel has proven itself in the GPU market, and it looks like they might not even get a chance.

In his latest video, Tom at Moore's Law is Dead says that Intel's new Arc Alchemist desktop GPUs could actually end up being cancelled and that they "may end up a waste of sand". I guess being a waste of sand for Intel is better than AIB partners telling NVIDIA to "pound sand" as it seems sand is in the headlines a lot when it comes to GPU rumors lately.

Tom said: "Intel may cancel Arc before Battlemage is even launched".

Well... the future of Samsung has been cemented with the next-gen Galaxy S23 family of smartphones to exclusively use Qualcomm's next-gen Snapdragon 8 Gen2 SoC.

This normally wouldn't be news, as Samsung uses its in-house Exynos chips alongside Qualcomm Snapdragon SoCs in its smartphones, but now the Galaxy S23 is going all-in with Snapdragon. A new multi-year partnership between Samsung and Qualcomm will start in 2023, "expanding the use of Snapdragon platforms for future premiums Samsung Galaxy products globally".

We now have confirmation of the rumors from a few weeks ago, where we heard that Samsung's next-gen Galaxy S23 smartphones wouldn't have a Samsung chip inside, but rather they'd use Qualcomm designs. Now, it has been officially confirmed by both sides.

KIOXIA have released the latest version of its KumoScale storage software built around the NVM Express over Fabrics (NVMe-oF) prototal, with KumoScale Software v3.21 including some big upgrades and new support.

The big new features inside of KumoScale software version 3.21 include a new cluster-wide Command Line Interface (Cluster CLI), compatibility with OpenStack Yoga multipathing, and interoperability with Microsoft Azure Active Directory. KIOXIA says that its new KumoScale software version 3.21 includes enhancements to the software upgrade process, SSD volume evict enhancements and compatibility with Dell EMC PowerEdge R6525 servers.

KIOXIA explained in its press release that its KumoScale software version 3.21 "delivers high-performance NVM Express (NVMeTM) flash storage-as-a-disaggregated networked service. Combining the speed and responsiveness of born-in-the-cloud software with the staying power of one of the world's largest flash memory makers, the KumoScale storage system software uses NVMe technology to enable flash-as-a-service in software-defined storage (SDS) environments for Kubernetes infrastructures, OpenStack® infrastructures and bare metal infrastructures".

Samsung isn't exactly burying its in-house Exynos chipset but rather, we already know that the South Korean giant formed a new "Joint Task Force" to beat Apple... but now the company has confirmed it is NOT shutting its Exynos business.

The news is coming directly from its Q2 2022 conference call, where Samsung said that the rumors that it would be shutting its Exynos business down "is not true at all" reports Korean Maeil Economic Daily. Samsung reportedly explained: "Currently, we are reorganizing our system-on-chip (SoC) business model, and are pursuing a plan to strengthen our competitiveness in the mid- to long-term".

Samsung continued: "In particular, we are focusing on strengthening the competitiveness of the next-generation mobile Exynos, and we are trying to maximize the market share of major customers by strengthening cooperation with leading IP companies and starting early development. Efforts are underway to improve the soundness of the mobile-oriented business structure by expanding applications such as wearables other than smartphones, and to secure a multilateral cooperation model".

Google is pushing out an update that will let you live stream your Nest Cam and Doorbell devices to Chromecast with Google TV, where once the update is on your device, you'll be able to use your Chromecast Voice Remote or another Assistant-capable device to check out one of your cameras.

You'll be able to say something like "Hey Google, show me the front door camera on my TV" which I must say, is pretty damn awesome. Google says that the update is rolling out "starting this week" so it shouldn't be too far away, and for desktop users we should see the Google Next team unleashing a desktop web portal later this year.

Silicon Motion has just introduced its new PCIe 5.0 SSD controllers, with the introduction of the new MonTitan "SM8366" and "SM8308" PCIe Gen5 SSD controllers.

The new Silicon Motion MonTitan SM8366 and SM8308 PCIe 5.0 SSD controllers are capable of up to 14GB/sec reads, up to a huge 128TB capacity, and they'll use either DDR5-4800 or DDR4-3200 RAM. Intel has formally announced that it is "winding down" its Optane memory business, announced in their non-GAAP adjustment table that was released for their Q2 2022 earnings.

The news was then confirmed during the Q&A session afterwards, where it will be winding down its Intel Optane memory business in Q2 2022. Intel said it "initiated the winding down of our Intel Opane memory business" in Q2 2022.

Intel reached out to Tom's Hardware, with the Intel representative explaining: "We continue to rationalize our portfolio in support of our IDM 2.0 strategy. This includes evaluating divesting businesses that are either not sufficiently profitable or not core to our strategic objectives. After careful consideration, Intel plans to cease future product development within its Optane business. We are committed to supporting Optane customers through the transition".

NVNDIA has announced it will be hosting a "Special Address" at SIGGRAPH 2022 in just over a weeks time.

Data from SensorTower shows Diablo Immortal actually hit this threshold a whole month before Fortnite did on mobiles; it took Diablo Immortal 8 weeks to hit $100 million, and Fortnite hit the threshold after 12 weeks. Gamers from the United States is spending the most on the game, followed closely by South Korea.

Microsoft will use Activision-Blizzard's arsenal of video games, developers, and network infrastructures to power the Xbox metaverse.

The PlayStation 5 will soon support native 2560x1440 resolution output to compatible displays, Sony today announced.

PS5 1440p output is currently in beta testing alongside a handful of other much-requested features. The PS5's inclusion of 1440p comes nearly 2 years after the console launched, whereas the Xbox Series X/S both support native 1440p output.

"Today, we are rolling out a new PS5 system software beta that includes 1440p support, gamelists, and additional updates to enhance your gaming experiences and make connecting with friends easier on PS5," Sony platform exec Hideaki Nishino said on the PlayStation Blog.

Sony has said repeatedly that it has no plans to make a new PlayStation Vita, and today's announcement really drives home the nail in the handheld's coffin.

Vita might mean life to everyone but Sony. Today the games giant announced a very specific product that really seems to indicate the PS Vita is dead and gone. It's called the Backbone One, and it's basically a PS Vita without a screen. You can learn more about Backbone here.

The PlayStation Backbone One is similar to a Razer Kishi. It's a split PlayStation controller that you slot your phone into, effectively turning your handheld pocket-computer into an on-the-go PS Vita with an arguably worse games library (unless you emulate, of course). It's worth noting that this product isn't officially made and distributed by Sony; the company, Backbone, is a separate product manufacturer that licensed the PlayStation name.
