Update for Evil Within 2 brings a first-person experience

| Feb 15, 2018 2:43 AM CST

It was only a matter of time before people found out about The Evil Within 2 PC version secretly harboring a first-person mode, more surprisingly though is the support the developer Tango Gameworks has now given.

Update for Evil Within 2 brings a first-person experience

After PC gamers finding the mode through an easy console input and many players taking a liking to the new mode, Tango Gameworks decided to officially support the mode across all platforms.

The first-person mode is now has a toggle option after todays update, Shinsaku Ohara, producer for The Evil Within 2 explained his thoughts on the topic "We like to think of it as a 'high-level hack' so we don't want people to compare this with DOOM or anything like that. There were some scenes that just didn't work, so it jumps back and forth a bit to third-person. But we made sure the game's an enjoyable experience and hopefully people will enjoy playing in this mode"

Call of Duty movie in the works, limited to 24FPS

| Feb 14, 2018 9:45 PM CST

Activision will cash in on the Call of Duty franchise until it is buried and dead, and even then there'll be some post-death DLC, I'm sure of it. It shouldn't come as a surprise that there's a Call of Duty movie in the works, something that will be limited to 24FPS.

Call of Duty movie in the works, limited to 24FPS

Variety is reporting that Activision Blizzard are "ramping up development" on a Call of Duty movie, with one of the first moves being to find a director. Variety's sources are saying that Stefano Sollima, the director behind Sicario 2: Soldado is "negotiations to direct an adaptation of the popular video game".

Activision Blizzard believes they can turn Call of Duty into a "cinematic universe that could rival Marvel or DC", where during an interview with the Guardian in April 2017, Activision Blizzard Studios' presidents Stacey Sher and Nick van Dyk said they were planning a universe that would "draw on the feel of the different incarnations of the game rather than bringing over existing plots", reports Variety.

Monster Hunter: World is 'difficult' for the Nintendo Switch

| Feb 14, 2018 7:28 AM CST

Since the release of Monster Hunter: World and the recent success that it has acquired many people have suggested the game to be developed for the Nintendo Switch, this may provide more "difficult" than expected.

Monster Hunter: World is 'difficult' for the Nintendo Switch

According to Capcom President and Chief Operating Officer, Haruhiro Tsujimoto, bringing Monster Hunter: World to the Nintendo Switch would be quite problematic. Tsujimoto explains in a interview with Toyo Keizai Online that the game was developed for consoles and PC, the portability of the Nintendo Switch and the limits that come with it was not what the developers desired to create.

When Tsujimoto was asked if he would consider developing the game of for the Nintendo Switch he respected the fact that there was a very high demand by the Nintendo Switch audience. Unfortunately though, Tsujimoto said due to "various conditions" it would be quite difficult, not only from a developing standpoint but as well as knowledge of user base.

The remastered trilogy will include a remaster of Spyro the Dragon, Ripto's Rage! and Year of the Dragon and is also to said to be coming to PS4 with PS4 Pro support aswell. God of War text mini-game unlocks Kratos/Artreus artwork

| Feb 14, 2018 3:47 AM CST

God of War has had quite some news surface about it lately and now yet another marketing gift has been given to the public, high quality Atreus and Kratos revealed through a Facebook Messenger mini-game.

God of War text mini-game unlocks Kratos/Artreus artwork

As the launch of God of War is right around the corner Sony Interactive Entertainment released access to this URL, the link will take you directly to the Facebook mini-game which will require you to log in.

Going through the length of the mini-game will reward players with eight pieces of 7200x7200 resolution artwork images which features Kratos and his son Atreus. The art-style almost feels Nordic, the contrast of colour and sketchy look makes the image appear as if it was created long ago. Some images depict Kratos and Atreus surrounded by Draugr and a Revenant, this 'sketchy' art-style is very apparent here.

Sea of Thieves will require a GTX 1060 for 1080p 60FPS on PC

| Feb 14, 2018 2:45 AM CST

Sea of Thieves is making its way to PC, and to gear PC gamers up for the challenge of the high seas Microsoft and developer Rare have released official PC requirements.

Sea of Thieves will require a GTX 1060 for 1080p 60FPS on PC

According to the image found on GameSpot and looking at the 'modern GPU' category we can see that players will be required to have at least an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 or a AMD Radeon RX 470 to reach a recommended 60FPS at 1080p.

I cannot wait to see what this game will be looking like in 4K, even though players will have to cranking a GTX 1080 Ti or a AMD Radeon RX Vega 64, I'd assume it would be worth it. For players that don't have that much of a beefy rig, the minimum requirement bracket might be what you want to be looking at, 30FPS at 720p with a GTX 1030 or a AMD Radeon R7 450.

| Feb 14, 2018 1:43 AM CST

Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot and CFO Alain Martinez discussed the companies thoughts on the Nintendo Switch during an investors conference call yesterday.

Ubisoft pledges future support for the Nintendo Switch

According to Martinez, Ubisoft couldn't be happier with the partnership of Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle and the Nintendo Switch, infact he remarked that Ubisoft as a whole is "very pleased."

Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle was the third best-selling game on the Nintendo Switch for 2017, this could be been the case because of the consoles immense sales, Ubisoft saying the portable hybrid has "strong momentum" for the future.

Dynasty Warriors 9 launched today, followed by a new trailer

| Feb 14, 2018 12:39 AM CST

Back in early January I reported on the Dynasty Warriors 9 official gameplay trailers, as well as the official open world world trailer. Now that the game is released Koei Tecmo has celebrated with another trailer.

Dynasty Warriors 9 launched today, followed by a new trailer

Dynasty Warriors is one of the longest running series of games to date, originating back on the first PlayStation, Koei Tecmo has really come a long way with what they have created here.

Adopting open world gameplay I saw was only inevitable for the game to survive, as even some of the early games felt that they deserved larger maps and more options for exploration.

Dead Space is free on Origin

| Feb 13, 2018 6:18 PM CST

Gamers can lament the death of Visceral Games with a free copy of Dead Space on PC.

Dead Space is free on Origin

Dead Space is now available for free as part of EA's On The House promotion within Origin, which typically gives out a free PC copy of a random game every month. To snag your copy all you need to do is download the Origin client and secure your copy--then it's yours to keep without limitations.

The goal behind this is to get more people folded into the Origin PC client and thus potentially make sales, which can then lead to monetized engagement, aka the wheel that churns EA's billion-dollar business. But if you're not up for buying anything you can at least get one of the best horror games for free and give it a whirl. RIP Visceral Games :(.

Sea of Thieves to have microtransactions, no lootboxes

| Feb 13, 2018 5:16 PM CST

Rare today confirmed that its upcoming online pirate game Sea of Thieves will indeed be monetized with optional in-game purchases.

Sea of Thieves to have microtransactions, no lootboxes

When I first saw Sea of Thieves I thought "hey this is a great opportunity for microtransactions!". Nowadays you don't really make an online multiplayer game and not offer some way to make recurring earnings via optional in-game lootboxes/DLC/add-ons, etc., especially if you're a first-party Microsoft studio. Remember Microsoft is all about monetizing engagement right now and has a robust gameplan that bridges gaming software, services, and subscriptions in an effort to rake in tons of cash (and it's working).

Now Sea of Thieves executive producer Joe Neate says microtransactions are coming, but only three months after launch, and lootboxes won't be included--you'll always know what you're getting.

Rumor: Gears of War devs helping make new Perfect Dark game

| Feb 13, 2018 4:14 PM CST

It appears Microsoft is trying to heal its sparse games lineup with a slate of refreshed classics, including a new Perfect Dark game, reports suggest.

Rumor: Gears of War devs helping make new Perfect Dark game

We've heard that Playground Games is working on a new Fable game, and Microsoft's Phil Spencer has already confirmed the next Forza and Halo games are indeed in development and will launch directly on the Xbox Game Pass program, but what about the company's other IPs? Like, say, Perfect Dark?

According to OXM Magazine, there's a rumor floating around that The Coalition, who develops the Gears of War games, is helping game dev Storylab Productions make a new third-person Perfect Dark game. That sounds a bit odd especially since The Coalition is working on the next Gears of War game, and that Perfect Dark is a first-person shooter. OXM was careful to say that the project could end up transforming into a different type of game or fizzle out entirely--or the rumor could be entirely untrue.

Battlefield needs a battle royale mode, says analyst firm

| Feb 13, 2018 3:19 PM CST

EA, like other major publishers, have caught wind of the massively popular battle royale trend started by PUBG. But how long until the gaming titan throws their hat into the ring? The longer they wait, the harder it'll be to capture the market, says analyst firm SuperData.

Battlefield needs a battle royale mode, says analyst firm

Back in September I wrote an article predicting that Bluehole's PUBG would eventually be squeezed out of the battle royale market that it helped created, especially when big players like EA, Activision, Ubisoft, and Take-Two Interactive jumped in--especially with the competition from EPIC's Fortnite. The latter has happened as Fortnite outstripped PUBG in players, and GTA Online now has a battle royale type of mode, but other big players have yet to step into the space. This should change, and soon, especially with EA's Battlefield series--at least that's what SuperData says.

In its latest analysis report, SuperData highlights the major benefits and reasons why Battlefield should have some sort of battle royale mode. "EA is in an excellent position to capitalize on the battle royale trend," the report states. "The Battlefield games are known among AAA shooters for their large maps and high player numbers per match. Adding a battle royale mode to Battlefield would require fewer changes to the core experience than with games like Call of Duty that have smaller player counts and maps."

Ubisoft explains why its focusing on live services

| Feb 13, 2018 1:21 PM CST

As more and more publishers embrace live services, French games-maker Ubisoft explains why it's following this trend.

Ubisoft explains why its focusing on live services

If you've seen our previous coverage on Ubisoft's quarterly earnings, you already know that they've made a tremendous transformation to a digital-first company. Like most video game publishers (Activision, EA, Take-Two Interactive and even Capcom and Square Enix), Ubisoft is interested in tapping the rich vein that is live services, which allows for a more long-term, lucrative and recurring business model. Instead of selling a game once and taking in the sales revenue, developers and publishers can now keep making money over time by selling in-game items in their online-oriented games. This is the engagement model and it's something that just about every big name in gaming is embracing.

But few publishers go out of their way to explicitly highlight why they're doing this, leaving it up to analysts, journalists, and financial advisers to explain. Ubisoft, however, has exposed its thinking behind the live service model it's planned out and successfully implemented. What it really comes down to is money: by selling its games digitally, Ubisoft retains about 70% of every game sold. Retail sales, however, only net Ubisoft about 55% after distribution costs--digital games don't require manuals, discs, etc, and Ubisoft only has to pay Microsoft and Sony for consoles, while keeping everything from games sold on uPlay.
