Onrush launches on the 5th of June, new trailer released

| Feb 21, 2018 5:30 AM CST

Codemasters have taken to their Onrush Twitter page to say that "there's a stampede coming" for players, which could be in reference to the new trailer that was also just released.

Onrush launches on the 5th of June, new trailer released

Racing games are not necessarily my cup of tea but that doesn't mean I won't be recognizing a potential rivalry between releases. Burnout Paradise remaster is heading to gamers on March 16th this year, and now we have more recent news that Onrush a Codemasters creation will be debuting on June 5th.

It could be assumed that Burnout might be taking the cake on this one but don't discourage Onrush just as of yet. Onrush might just slot itself very well into the arcade racer genre, the game appears to feature a "Rush" meter which would suggest that once tricks are performed the meter grows granting boost or other perks. It might not be Grand Turismo racing or even Forza, but if you are a gamer that wants to smash into your opponents on the road and be rewarded for it Onrush might just be for you.

Burnout Paradise Remastered announced for PC, consoles

Burnout Paradise Remastered will be running at up to 4K on the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X, with EA warning in the trailer for the remastered arcade driving game that "native 4K resolution not available on all platforms", because consoles, I guess. EA has said that the game will run "natively" at 1080p on the PS4 and Xbox One, all at 60FPS. EA has said that Burnout Paradise Remastered won't include the Time Savers Pack, an add-on that unlocked every vehicle in the game.

As for the game itself, it will hit consoles first in digital and retail form on March 16 while PC gamers will have to wait a little while longer, as it'll launch on EA's digital service, Origin. Fortnite and Diablo 3 rumored for the Nintendo Switch

| Feb 20, 2018 9:33 PM CST

One of the biggest games on the market right now is Epic Games' free-to-play hit Fortnite, and one of the most beloved franchises might not have struck all of the chords in gamers' hearts, but Diablo 3 is still massive.

Fortnite and Diablo 3 rumored for the Nintendo Switch

Now we have rumors floating around that Fortnite and Diablo 3 will be released on the Nintendo Switch, which would be huge. The insider said: "Diablo 3 is in development for the Nintendo Switch and should be out early 2019. They are wanting to implement Local play with multiple switches".

The insider in question is Marcus Sellars, who also tweeted that Fortnite is headed to the Nintendo Switch sometime in August or September. Sellars added: "Wouldn't say fact as it's not confirmed by the developer but yeah it's happening".

Intel intends to 'compete in graphics products' in future

| Feb 20, 2018 7:23 PM CST

Update: Intel has reached out to me with the following statement: "Last week at ISSCC, Intel Labs presented a research paper exploring new circuit techniques optimized for power management. The team used an existing Intel integrated GPU architecture (Gen 9 GPU) as a proof of concept for these circuit techniques. This is a test vehicle only, not a future product. While we intend to compete in graphics products in the future, this research paper is unrelated. Our goal with this research is to explore possible, future circuit techniques that may improve the power and performance of Intel products".

Intel intends to 'compete in graphics products' in future

An interesting statement that shows the purported discrete GPU everyone is talking about isn't something new, as it's a prototype that Intel is working on - an existing product and "not a future product". Intel clarifies that it intends to "compete in graphics products in the future", though, which is so great to see.

All of that kerfuffle last year when AMD lost Radeon Technologies Group boss Raja Koduri wasn't for nothing, as he has jumped into Intel and now we're seeing the first tease of their new discrete GPU.

Nintendo's Fire Emblem Heroes rakes in $295m in first year

While it's not up there with Pokemon GO and Clash of Clans, Fire Emblem Heroes has made nearly $300 million in its first year earnings. According to data compiled by analyst firm SensorTower, the Fire Emblem mobile game has pulled in about $295 million in its first twelve-month period, dwarfing Super Mario Run and the more recent release of Animal Crossing.

Japan is the most interested in the game--not surprisingly since the Gacha business model is in full effect in the game--with the lion's share, or 59%, of earnings coming from the country. The U.S. made up about 29% of earnings, and other countries just sitting at about 12%.

Sniper Ghost Warrior dev hit with huge layoffs

Polish dev CI Games has shed lots of employees from its workforce.

Sniper Ghost Warrior dev hit with huge layoffs

Despite a profitable year, Sniper Ghost Warrior developer CI Games will dramatically downsize its current employee count to about just 30 people. The company announced that its internal studio will continue focusing on its next unannounced tactical shooter with the help of a large number of subcontractors. Interestingly enough this move was made despite Sniper Ghost Warrior 3 selling 1 million copies.

CI Games CEO Marek Tyminski had this to say about the business move: "The decision to downsize the studio was the toughest decision I have taken over the past years-it is never easy to let go of friends and colleagues with whom we've worked for years-however I truly believe that it was the best way to move forward. Quality is not only extremely important to our upcoming tactical shooter, but it is important to every game we will bring to the market.

SOMA's 'easy' Safe Mode finally makes its way to PS4

'Safe Mode' was brought to players by the developers as an easier option for players to progress through the game. Some sections in SOMA would provide to difficult or overwhelming, this resulted in the 'Safe Mode' being added as an optional mode.

The mode changed the games monsters into being curious of your presence around them instead of immediately attacking you on sight. Even though this mode may seem to ruin some immersion within the game, the atmosphere is said to of hardly been changed. Biomutant has had a new gameplay teaser trailer released

Biomutant looks extremely unique in this trailer in terms of creative abilities that the main character can do. We can see that the protagonist can fire an arrow and launch himself to the desired location, control a glider, bounce on enemies and even be electrocuted.

Players should note that the gameplay within Biomutant is drastically affected by how the player decides to mutate/customize their main character. When looked at as individual clips Biomutant may not seem that unique when it comes to gameplay, but when addressed a whole experience we can see that the game has no problem traversing from one uniqueness to another in only a matter of seconds.

Rainbox Six: Siege expected to last another decade

Ubisoft is eager to extend Rainbow Six: Siege's lifespan as far as possible--even for another 10 years.

Rainbox Six: Siege expected to last another decade

Service games are all the rage these days, and every major publisher is embracing them in some form. Ubisoft, who has pushed a more digital-focused transformation, is a key player in the live service market with its slew of popular online games such as Rainbow Six: Siege. We've already highlighted why Ubisoft is on this path and why it won't change anytime soon, but just how long can the publisher expect its games to stay relevant? If it handles engagement properly, perhaps 10 years or more.

"We are saying extremely loudly here - there is no sequel planned. We will be here for the next 10 years. So expect more Rainbow 6 in your life for quite some time," R6 brand director Alexandre Remy said during the game's big 2018 Invitational esports event.

Blizzard North's Diablo III would've looked like Diablo II

| Feb 19, 2018 3:00 PM CST

Original Diablo designer David Brevik weighs in on Blizzard's Diablo III, and how the game might've been if Blizzard North hadn't been dissolved.

Blizzard North's Diablo III would've looked like Diablo II

At one point Blizzard North, who had made the original first two classic Diablo games, was making Diablo III...but ultimately its vision was scrapped and restarted. Blizzard eventually delivered a rampantly broken, weird, and jading mess in 2012 with the release of Diablo III on PC that ultimately betrayed the soul of its forebears. But despite its failures, Blizzard turned things around with Reaper of Souls and saved the game while introducing a long-term playtime that both Diablo and Diablo II significantly lacked. So what does David Brevik, who helped shape the franchise as we know it, have to say about Diablo III?

"I thought that they added a lot of really great stuff to it that fleshed it out and made it a much better game than I thought that it was at launch," Brevik said in a recent interview with IGN.

Remedy's Northlight engine being optimized for multiplayer

| Feb 19, 2018 1:37 PM CST

Remedy is making serious strides with its new Northlight engine, which will power its upcoming game projects including the new P7 IP.

Remedy's Northlight engine being optimized for multiplayer

It's no secret that Remedy is making a brand new third-person shooter IP called P7, and that they've signed a big multi-year deal with 505 Games to get it funded. But what's a bit more ambiguous is the lingo that's thrown around about the game, and how the developer wants to ensure P7 will deliver "longer-lasting game experiences." This is usually prime nomenclature for service games, and I even went so far as to predict the game would have monetized service elements thanks to a recent job listing.

Now in its latest fiscal earnings report, the game dev assures shareholders that its proprietary Northlight games engine is being fine-tuned and optimized for specific experiences outside of its usual focus, including multiplayer.
